Everybody knows that Anakin alegedly fall into a lava pit thus giving him his scars, but who says so, everybody including myself believes this to be true, but how do we know, did Lucas confirm it back in 77 or 83 or is it just a very long runnung rumour. It could be that he loses his limbs in the battle with Obi-Wan (he's already lost an arm) and the scars and burns on his face could come from Palpatines force lightening, who would exept this if it did get into the film rather than the lava pit, or do you really want to see the lava pit?

I doubt it's a lava pit, and I highly doubt he'll actually fall into it, considering he'd be smaller than a midichlorian in seconds.

I never said it was a lava pit in my version: http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8950

I don't think it's a lava pit.....

I think it may end up being toxic waste on that moon of Bogden...

Why? Now before you all start moaning, the EU sucks or has nothing to do with the films, remember this about AOTC...more than PM, this film has several nods to the EU in it ("It's possible...he's just returned from a border dispute on Ansion" Mace Windu in AOTC referring to Obi-Wan when Palpitine asks about Kenobi watching over Amidala[the novel "Approaching Storm"]
...and of course the constant appearance of Aalya Secura in the film from the ongoing comic series)

In the young reader book "Boba Fett: Fight to Survive", young Boba is delivered at the end of the story by Aurra Sing to Count Dooku on that moon of Bogden his father told Obi-Wan about. It's a garbage scow of a moon filled with toxic fumes & waste. If that is indeed where Dooku is hiding out when he's not visiting his master on Coruscant or stirring trouble in the galaxy (and where Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace or all may confront him later in Ep III), it could be a toxic end for ANakin as opposed to a lava one.

Just a thought.....

But then again GL murdered the Death Star and Boba's EU origin (not sure on Boba, not a huge EU fan only know what my friend told me). Although, that could work out (refering to your idea).

I thought the novel to Jedi explained somewhat the confrontation between Anakin & Obi-Wan.

It does, but the novels are only quasi canon. I wish that Lucas would have the novels re-done to remove stuff that doesn't fit in with the storyline. Remember, the ROTJ novelization also says that Owen is Obi-Wan's brother. :)

I would like it to be the lava pit. What a visual. They wouldn't be able to show Ani burning up, but as one poster here said they could cut away from Ani falling in and flash forward to Darth Vader's helmet going on, leaving us to make the connection. That would be extra cool if properly done.

The Decipher CCG also refers to Owen as Obi-Wan's brother. Doesn't Uncle George give his stamp of approval on all Star Wars related material?

Yea, I remember hearing that too. What's the deal? Is it official?

Somebody watch ROTJ again. I'm sure it's all a part of Obi-Wan's point of view, as not to confuse the heck out of poor Luke. It'll be explained away in EIII.

Can you imagine old Ben trying to make sense of it all in ANH?

I have been hearing rumors, theories, and bits of info from various places that why he needs to breathe using the mask and equipment is that he was attacked by Palpy with a very long session of force lightning which basically makes more sense because if you fall into a lava pit I don't think there is going to be much left of you after the first few seconds even with as strong as Palpy, Obi, or Ani in the force to salvage. If he is more machine than of damage from a lava pit why is he still naturally breathing. Why would he need to breathe at all if there wasn't some blood pumping through his veins. He does though. I think there is more organic left of Anikin in that suit than we are led to believe. Thus my defunking of the lava pit theory.

I have a feeling the "molten pit" scenario will be changed. Sure, it's mentioned in the ROTJ novel.. but so are a lot of things like Owen Lars being Obi-Wan's brother. And that Anakin never met Yoda.

Star Wars history is constantly being re-written with the release of each movie.

Perhaps the Lava Pit is a false lead.

Perhaps Anakin is "consumed" by the Dark Side. I'm picturing some Force Lightning similar to the Emperor, yet Anakin's lack of discipline makes him lose control. It burns him, turning him into Vader.

Maybe. :)

Thats one way to look at it. I think that his injurys come from his many battles with the Jedis.

Lucas can do anything, and he has alreayd proved that. Im going into this expecting just about anything. Love the speculation though......it has to tide me over 3 more years though!

While I'm not entirely convinced that Anakin's injuries will be caused by his failed attempt at using Dark Side Force lightning, it would be a very dramatic way for it to occur. Think about what kills Darth Vader in Episode VI....the Emperor's uncontrolled Force lightning because Vader grabs him from behind. He'll die from the lightning for the second and final time. Also, imagine that is what caused his injuries and now consider when Anakin finally resurfaced in Vader: when Palpatine was assaulting Luke with the fatal lightning.

i believe the novel was actually based on a "throwaway" line from the script

while i doubt it will be lava, i think it will be the results of injuries suffered in battle with obi-wan--and possibly padme

I've also heard that obi-wan deals an 'almost fatal' blow to anakin's respiratory system thus the breathing machine.
