I need to catch up here:

Slicker, I like the pic of you guys hanging out. Where's Cappy been? I haven't seen him post in a long time, I think.

From the same trip to Michigan as Slick. For some reason this picture makes me laugh. I'm on the left, Slick and I's older brother is on the right.

I noticed the other day while going through pictures from that excursion that about 98% of pictures featuring me also include my Red Wings koozied beer within arm's length.

I finally found the special cable to transfer picutres of my newborn son my computer... stupid Sony and their non standard cables.
Anyway, he was born on the 12th, do he's 10 days old now. His 2 older brothers, ages 5 and 2, are still getting used to him. At the hospital I asked the one of the nurses when they would be measuring his midichlorians. It took her a second for it to register with her what I was talking about, but then she said the test had not been done yet, but she could tell the force was strong with him. Best nurse ever in my book..

You were saying. :p

Tycho
09-07-2010, 04:32 AM
Relax. It's only pre-season (bottled message No. 1 for NFL fans).

If San Diego does really well, then I'll have something invested in my hopes for our football team. Right now, it's the Padres who just reversed a 10 game slide to barely hold on to 1st place just ahead of San Francisco.

However, I don't think their holding 1st Place for 5 months was an accident. They ARE capable. So let's hang on SD baseball!

Again, if the Chargers are doing so well - like 5-7 victories into the first half of the season, I'll start getting hopeful about a shot at the championships.

I'll take one team at a time though.

Meanwhile, the teams I played for this weekend were The Spirit of Dana Point (an armed schooner) vs. The Californian (tall ships battle in San Diego Harbor) and I even made the 5 o'clock news. I was the starboard crew chief.

Then I did another Civil War re-enactment event. My picture standing in for one of my lead characters and his girlfriend (with my friend Grace) is also posted below.

The live action battle videos and combat photos can be found on my Facebook page which all those who "like it," can get updates from here:

"Captain Daniel Winthrop" received promotions in the Federal Cavalry when most of his superior officers fell dead before him - a bullet in their backs. Of course he is on record testifying that "the Indians did it."

I remember the Palomar Observatory. When I was a sophomore in college, there was this grad school chick teaching astronomy 101 at State, and we drove up there and stayed over night so she could chart some things about a star. She was really petite and cute. I think her name was Vikki. I hadn't thought about her in forever. Thanks for the reminder. It's stuff like this that I want to remember and think fondly about when I recollect my college years.

In getting a new driveway, it became obvious that the mailbox was clumsy, random, so uncivilized. :( This one made it 12+ years; the only mailbox I built that actually made it to the curb (unlike my AT-AT one that was too bulky and heavy). It was meant to resemble the Endor shield bunker, but after a week or so, the mailman refused to deliver mail because he had to open the doors to the side, not pulling it down. I had to nail a metal box to the top, and he had the nerve to put a note in the box saying "it looks great." Yeah.

Mad Slanted Powers
04-09-2011, 07:45 PM
Looks kind of like it could be used as a bird house. You could train pigeons to open the box and bring the mail to you. That could have been useful at my parents' house, as the mailbox was close to a 200 meter walk from the house.

As it is, those creepy crawlies will have to find a new pad. I'll see if I can find an old "new" pic of it, back in its heyday; before the dark times, before the Empost-ire... but alas, it was from the pre-digital age and I don't have a scan of it. But I know I made it before Episode I (and perhaps even before I joined SSG  ), so that'd put it around early '99.

LOL.

Why?

A little early for Easter there?

We should hang out when I wear my Wilfred costume. One full body doggy suit and one full body bunny suit.

It would go great with the guy in the San Diego Padres' Rally Chicken outfit and PETCO has Red Ruff and Blue Mews mascots running around PETCO Park as well - as I'm considering wearing my Wlfred costume to Opening Day 2012 - but we play the Los Angeles Dodgers and it may get really hot wearing the doggy suit under my Kevlar body armor AND a Padres' jersey, plus Jedi Master Yoda.

I'm just stunned at how many people just don't connect the pink bunny suit with the modern film classic A Christmas Story. You'd think that over a decade's worth of 24-hour plays on TNT (or is it TBS?) on Christmas Eve and Christmas day would have burned every iconic moment of the film into the collective consciousness of all Americans by now. LOL

Tycho

To get into the whole "peace on earth thing" and to see something burned into humans, I usually watch Terminator around Christmas time.

Once SkyNet eliminates most of the humans, for a little while anyway, there finally is peace on earth.

Isn't that what the Christmas spirit is all about?

In that last picture, those look like they are all $1 bills.

I presume the following:

That whole pile of money is only $100.00 - in singles.

You are preparing your machine gun to hold up in an Afghan strip club - or about to start founding the first one: "Nick's Naked Ladies." However, you have since learned that local Sharia Law only allows for naked horses.

You are really going to annoy the bank when you deposit that if the clerk doesn't have an electronic money sorter.

You're getting ready to go to Vegas with me and Chux and you're going to bring that cash for "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

You got that money robbing an Afghan bank with your machine gun, and though you cleared out the place, they only had $100.00 in singles, but they gave you a coupon for a free coffee at Starbucks on your way out.

Thanks for the compliment.

I was speaking on behalf of raising funds and support for a candidate for one of the City Council seats. He is the front runner, expected to win in a special election in San Diego this coming March. I have been recruited to help because of my familiarity with the community and local planning board leaders, having been elected to such a position myself.

We're solidifying support and a crowd of San Diego's wealthiest progressives heard the mayor speak the other day. San Diego's population has also spoken and chosen a strong progressive city legislature and leader, and I am doing my best to maintain it as so.

And there it is and why I had to dress formal. The end result was a made a very good impression and we're going to win this thing.

As I think long time members of this site know, BobaFrett was a living donor for my kidney transplant, for which I'm very grateful.

The one-time All-Time saves leader for Major League Baseball, San Diego Padres' own Trevor Hoffman recorded a video with me (actually 2 - one was a comedic roast about BobaFrett being a Chicago fan) from the pitchers mound in PETCO Park for BobaFrett, thanking him.

Trevor and I became friends some time ago when I was going through my health crisis. He had one kidney fail and be surgically removed when he was only 11 years old. Most of us start playing baseball at age 8. So almost all he's done to become a record breaking athlete he did with one kidney. Trevor takes great care of himself and has never had any problems. He encouraged BobaFrett (Barry) that it was OK to be my living donor.

That's just another way that BobaFrett is a Most Interesting Man :)

Part of your front tooth, what, you were good for 3 and a half years but in that last half of a year you were awful and so Santa instead of bringing you your front teeth brought you coal?Nope, had it broken with a small hammer, while a passenger in the car.

Either it was from a knife fight or BOTH of my kidneys were in really rough shape and I spent a month at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee just prior to my 2nd birthday. If it's story 1, then I guess the same; story 2, also same but not as excitingly so. ;) Or maybe still slightly less because Barry did give his away in a Star Wars trivia contest on the internet (that's how I'm going to tell the story from now on  ).

Nope, had it broken with a small hammer, while a passenger in the car.Oh yeah, that story doesn't require any follow-through whatsoever. :p

Speaking of the kidney transplant, Josh, I mean Tycho and I celebrated 4 years since our surgery this past Sunday. Here are a few pictures from that week 4 years ago, February 3rd, 2009

The doctor is Dr. Randy Schaffer, who in my post-transplant care became the closest friends with amongst the medical staff that helped us.

Dr. Schaffer was not too long in becoming my batting coach when I got to play with the San Diego Padres - a huge testament to how well the surgery worked.

And more over a huge testament to how much Barry's gift meant to me and my recovery. What a sacrafice he made and the most admirable person to ever have touched my life.

Ya, I don't usually share that picture, but when I look at the scar in the mirror these days, it is hardly even there! :hurt:

And Josh has been doing everything right as to take care of his kidney, and has been doing wonderful things to give back and assist others.

It's a very intimate photo as well as being graphic, but it tells a massively significant story too so thanks for sharing it. Also, glad to hear the scar has healed well, and of course that Josh has been using your gift of life well rather than just using it as a bookend. ;)

Man, we still need to get you out to Comic-Con one of these days.

He's also closed the new account since policy is 1 account per person. I still can't believe Wreck It Ralph was nominated alongside Brave, not that WIR is bad in any way but it didn't feel like "Beauty and the Beast"-level special either. Brave at least won for being a clear cut above visually and having the Pixar storytelling range.

First picture is the most recent, I am wiped out from spending hours cutting and placing tile in my small bathroom.

Second picture is from around 2008, when I did a Fox News in the morning broadcast, I'm the Stormtrooper!

3rd picture is from a visit to Chicago last summer, when I joined some friends who got tickets to see Conan O'Brien when he did his show in Chicago. We visited the "Bean" sculpture, and it was a beautiful day!

Went to the Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, CA (of course there's an Abraham Lincoln shrine in Southern CA), where the statue of the local library and shrine founders was O'decked out for St. Patty's (their birthday, too). Inside the olde tyme library is cool (odd to see the book sensor panels at the entrance, computer monitors all over), and the exhibits on the Civil War (Tycho, drive up some time to check it out) are quite nice, including 6 of Lincoln's hairs from his deathbed. Lincoln's DNA? Two words: Lincoln clone.

I often find it odd how teams get certain players to sign at their stadiums; I got Bob Feller's autograph at a minor league park for either the Padres or Angels at the time (now they're a Dodgers affiliate). Rollie (a local boy from here in SoCal) didn't play for the Giants, did he? That's a cool pic.

Love that picture JimJam! I met Rollie at Surprise when the Padres played the Rangers.

My section group at PETCO Park centers around the infamous Harry The Heckler who looks exactly like Rollie - and Rollie knows him.
For Harry, I got a glue-on handle-bar mustache and wore it to take my picture with Rollie. He laughed. Our Set-Up man, Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson, also wore one (Luke's a relaxed, cool, funny man). I have to find that picture.

The address shows the Villa in Malibu, so it isn't on my LA list (I'll try to Golden Shovel a SSG thread here with all my places visited). I've been to both; and yeah, I like the Villa slightly better than the 405-accessible one (which is one of its drawbacks), mainly due to the outdoor artwork (but indoor art is much better at the Museum - my favorite is titled Spring by Lawrence Alma-Tadema).

JediTricks

I prefer the indoor art at the Villa, there's something about the Center's focus on renaissance and post- European art that gets repetitive to me, while I never tire of ancient Grecian, Etruscan, and Roman artworks. The irony between us here is that your favorite is a 19th-century European artist depicting ancient Rome. :D

Rats, now I want to go to both.
