The best thing about CommTech was that it doubled as a stand, something always useful, especially for action poses. But the sound ranged from great (Greedo) to pitiful (TC-14), and most were average, with the audio barely sounding like the character.

The best audio output device? Your own mouth. Phrases, sound effects, you can make them all your own, with a little practice. :)

I agree they did make good stands. The voices didn't sound very good. I can do with or without them.

07-03-2002, 09:34 PM
Maybe for episode 3 the figures will come with a little stand that has a digital image--you move it to the light and it plays 1 second of footage from the movie! :D

07-03-2002, 09:46 PM
The battle droid commtech sounded horrible!!!!!!!!!

07-03-2002, 09:52 PM
I know...it was like the exact opposite tone of voice that they used in the movie.

The battle droids did sound like that for several cuts of TPM, but they were made to sound more mechanical for the final edit. So I can forgive them for that one.

Commtech was good because the figures diddnt have stupid gimmicks.

i liked the commtech chips too but solely for how they double up as stands. i never actually got a commtech reader, even when they were on clearance.

07-03-2002, 10:40 PM
Same here.

07-03-2002, 10:48 PM
they where okay i guess bring them back allow the dead RIP i do not i will still buy them.

07-03-2002, 10:58 PM
I don't want the COMMtech Chips back, but regular stands would be a great pack-in.

07-03-2002, 11:08 PM
I still say the stands should show movie footage. They released trading cards for Episode I that did something similar, didn't they?

07-03-2002, 11:29 PM
I think the commtech chips offered just the right amount of 'gimmick' without making the figures bulky or silly looking.
I buy have tonnes of extra commtech chips, which I use for stands on all my new Saga figures. They work perfectly.

07-03-2002, 11:48 PM
I say just make good figures, with or without chips, maybe some ones that have never made it to any line!

I agree, the figs should be packed with their own stands, so we can display them proudly!

07-04-2002, 07:41 AM
I agree with LTB, no more Commtech chips, but stands would makea great pack-in, especially with some of the wild action poses we have been getting lately.

07-04-2002, 09:53 AM
I think so too. The Ep3 figures will surely have some kind of gimmick, albeit a COMMtech, action feature, or something else.

No more commtech chips, please!

07-04-2002, 01:51 PM
I donīt want those commtech chips back, most of the sound samples havenīt been that good, I think.
I would like to see a movie scene image printed all over the blister card, just like the vintage figures...that would be really cool. No more gimmicks and stuff like that, please!

07-04-2002, 02:17 PM
No more commtech chips.

A stand packed in would be very useful if it was clear and if it was really flat and not some super molded piece of junk about two inches thick and some stupid color.

It should be plain and clean and have no logo stamped all over it. I know what line of figures I'm collecting I don't need to be reminded of that on the stand - every single stand. STAR WARS™ screaming at you from every figure would be stupid.

Yeah, I think they should be plain, clear stands too. But you just know that they'd have the logo on them.

07-04-2002, 02:35 PM
I only want them back, as a ton of people have mentined, just because they double as stands.

07-04-2002, 03:04 PM
I liked better the Force files than the commetech chips.

I give a rousing "YES SIR" to the CTs.

Bring 'em back Hasbro!!!

07-07-2002, 12:13 AM
Commtech chips were terrible and bringing them back would be a step in the wrong direction. They were plauged with poor voices and took up to much room on the card. If we had the CTC's on the Saga cards there would be no room for the extra accessories like Luke's Weathervain and the Clonetroopers Tripod Cannon. If you need a stand for your figures they're only about 25 cents and can be found cheaper if bought in bulk.

07-07-2002, 02:20 PM
commtech chips were a great idea, but the product we got sucked. i think they would have been a much better gimic if they could have been made to sound more like the actual character voices.

07-07-2002, 02:22 PM
I hate them, and they're not worth paying an extra dollar for them.

that's about the only thing me and you dis agree on deadeye!!

07-07-2002, 03:53 PM
I once stepped on and smashed some COMMtech chips. "I hate them! They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals! And not just the common ones, but the variants...and the mint ones!"

The new stands (slightly rectangular with rounded corners) that the new AOTC figures showcased on Toy Fairs look different from the regular transparent round REAL stands. Are they from REAL stands as well? I hoped someone can design rectangular stands so that if all the figures display together with the stands, the stands just disappeared onto background like a big display board (transparent or colored) or something.

funny, deadeye...

But of course. Anakin's my latest thing, since I'm waiting for his figure. :D

i want them back! they gave the figures more snaze!

07-08-2002, 10:01 AM
Yes, but added too much to the price! Episode I figures cost $7.99...I like the Saga figures at $4.99! :D

actually, the EI figures cost 5.88 at wal-mart...

07-08-2002, 10:37 AM
I'm sorry, but I like the commtech chips. I just wish the sound was more like the characters voices, but I though they were cool. The fact that they doubled as stands is what made them nice, whithout that they would not have had the appeal.

07-08-2002, 11:11 AM
I could care less about the sound. The stand was the key - especially with these new figures that sometimes appear to have had a few beers before they got out of the package.

Yikes, I think you got taken DeadEye. The standard retail for Ep1 figures was $5.99 when they were first released.

But the commtech chips did indeed add unnecessarily top the cost and simply were not worth it. I never even liked using them as stand for my figures, because they were too thick and they made the figures stand up too high.

Personally I'll be glad if they never come back (and it looks like I'll get my wish;))

07-08-2002, 12:27 PM
I guess I did get taken. I see E1 figures for 99 cents sometime, but back when they were new, the cheapest I ever found them was $6.97 at Wal-Mart. TRU had them for $7.99 back in 1999.

07-08-2002, 12:56 PM
I can do without them. But I'd much rather have COMMTECH chips than action features.

07-08-2002, 01:27 PM
I'd rather have action features, as long as they don't limit the poseability.
