Ok, I know it's been done, but how about a "favorite movies" thread? It doesn't have to be top five or ten, just your favorites off the top of your head. Here's some of mine:

Trainspotting
Amadeus
The Jerk
Friday
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (a work of art)
Wild Bill
Enter the Dragon
Pink Floyd The Wall
Plunkett and Macleane
Fists of Fury

Hudson Hawk
My Name is Nobody
Cube
Last Boyscout
Tigerland
Diggstown
Gallipoli
Gattaca

Lonesome Dove

I could go on and on (I have over 400 DVDs) but I'd rather wait to see what others think.

One note to add to the list:
Can't find it on Video, and definetly not on DVD... It's a Historical Documentary(nice way of saying Nazi Propaganda Film) I think it only exist on Reel Film that you'd get at a Library or University and it's called:
'Triumph of the Will'- a Hauntingly Nationalism Inspiring film, I know..don't ask, it's just good...then you catch yourself saying, wait a minute these are the Nazi's were talking about and then it draws you back in...weird, go figure!

Mrhat. I won't give you crap about Titanic (it has faults, but it's a good film overall) but I will give you crap about Scary Movie 1 and 2 and (shudders) Hannibal. Ugh. It's in a race with SpyKids to be "The worst movie of the year" in my book.

Xir. I know what you mean about Triumph of the Will. Lani Reifenstahl was a cinematic genius. Too bad she was a friggin' Nazi...and I think you CAN find it on DVD. We watched it in a film class and the prof. had it on DVD. Theres also a documentary on Reifenstahl herself and the other movies she made. She made about the '36 Olympics that was really amazing too. I think it's called Olympiad.

Rollo Tomassi, good call on Lonesome Dove ! I love it. Did you ever see Return to Lonesome Dove? TL Jones passed on it, so Jon Voigt played Call. By itself it was good, but not comparable to the original.

Stillakid, your citation of This is Spinal Tap warms my heart.

I took a class in college years ago about the music industry. The professor was a former roadie who knew everything there was to know about the way the business works. As somebody who lived the life, he felt that Spinal Tap was really the best documentary ever made about the music business even though it's supposed to be a farce.

Geez. I don't think I've seen as many movies as "The Xir" listed as "favorites". Here's my very brief list:

Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Matrix
The Sixth Sense
Terminator & Terminator 2
The Abyss
Toy Story
Groundhog Day

Obi-Dan Kenobi
10-08-2001, 12:59 AM
No real order:

The Princess Bride (Definitely a contender for #1):
Defending Your Life
Reservoir Dogs
Fearless
Say Anything
Rushmore
Trainspotting
As Good As It Gets
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Pee Wee's Big Adventure (I'm NOT kidding!)
Dogma
City of Lost Children
Short Cuts
The Shawshank Redemption
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

On "Triumph of the Will":

I've heard from people that have seen it, that there is a scene that is almost exactly copied in the ceremony at the end of A New Hope. I know George Lucas has acknowledged Leni Reifenstahl as being talented, can anyone confirm this?

Hey! All I gotta say is that I love Movies! And like I said I have more favorites that I couldn't think of all at one time, but you guys have helped me remember those I've forgotten!
and Just so you don't think that I'm putting up movies for the hell of it, I went back and could only find two that I might take off the list: 'The Fog', and 'Misty' only because I haven't watched those in probably about 10-12 years! All the others I've seen atleast 5 times or more with the exceptions of 'Laura' and 'The Bicycle Theif' which I've seen each of only twice. Also you guys have listed many great movies which I don't have on my list and it's not that I don't like 'em, they just don't make my list! Here's the ones that did:

Alien

Xir,

I think it would have been easier for you to list which movies you don't like. :)

I can't believe nobody has listed "Better Off Dead." That movie has done more to promote drag-racing Japanese guys, paying off your paper boy, speaking French to weird fat guys, and snorting snow that any other movie in the history of mankind.
