What is the torture machine on Bespin actually doing to Han, I get the impresion that it is burning him because of the way he goes, "hot, hot, hot, hot" as they lower him down.

I think it is a combination of burning, stabbing with needles, slight electrocution, and pain enhancing drugs. Maybe...No way to know really.

The thing they have Han strapped into is called a "scan grid". Normally constructed to examine metals, a scan grid can collect data on all the properties of the metal it examines through electrical charges. Darth Vader has his troops modify a scan grid to torture Han Solo, who suffered several rounds of painful excruciating electrical shocks.

Whatever the torture rack does to Han...it at least wipes him out...takes all of his energy so that he will be less prone to escape or resist the carbon chamber.

Wow...i always thought Han was making those sounds because he was trying to concentrate so that the shocks would not hurt him...but now that u mentioned the HOT HOT HOT...its all clear now.
