I would like to purchase a digital voice recorder than you can hook up to the computer and it would automatically convert the words to text. Is there anything like that available?

I know that here is software that will convert text into speech, but I have no idea if they have something that will record speech, and convert it into text.

Yeah theres stuff like that available. You might try looking at Circuit City or a computer tech store.

Never tried it myself, seems like it's just something that would make you mad cause it may or may not be able to make out the word(s) you're saying from your accent or something.

Yes, the same thing happens with scanners. You can set it to convert to text, and you end up with it comlng. 0u+ lik@ th!s, because of how it converts it, and where the scan shows up dark, or light. You get a weird combination of letters, and commas, periods, underscores, hyphens, they all make an appearence. ;)

I once had a program that converted speech to text, can't remember what it was called I'll try and find it somewhere. I ended up getting rid of it because it didn't understand my accent!!!

Yeah... readplease turns text to speech, but it's kinda wonky. Maybe moneytree (the real name, no joke) might have developed the revers by now, maybe check that out.
PS what's up SirSteve?? Not getting carpal tunnel syndrome from maintaining the site, I hope?!?
You could just get a human to take dictation, if typing is causing you real trouble. (if that sounds flippant, it really wasn't meant to be)

SirSteve, Microsoft Office 2000 professional offers this feature, and it becomes useable in most of your Windows programs. I started using it a while ago. The more you use it, the better it gets at "understanding" your own, unique speech pattern. I haven't used it much, though, because you have to have a very quiet room while using it. I couldn't figure out where all these extra "the" words were coming from that were being inserted into my text, unitl I finally caught the system adding a "the" when I broke wind. And, you can't have any music or TV playing, either.

(I'm still looking into the ICQ deal - I've heard that these programs add a lot of unwanted stuff to your system, and I want to make sure exactly what's being loaded or what defaults are being changed)

SirSteve - I think this is what you're looking for.

This particular model is a few years old but they may have a newer one. I'd check out Dragons website to see. If not you can probably pick one up off of Ebay. Dragon Naturally-Speaking is one of the best voice recognition companies out there so I'm inclined to trust their products.

Good luck:)
