View Full Version : Lightsabers: mass-produced?

Could it be possible that lightsabers were mass-produced/machined in the Old Republic (if that's the era the prequels take place in, I'm not sure)? Or at least the base parts? That would explain Obi Wan having a nearly identical saber in AOTC as he lost at the end of TPM, and you can't deny that the lightsabers used by Kenobi, Skywalker and Dooku were (for the most part) seen before with other Jedi.
Then when the Jedi were wiped out, it would seem logical that the manufacturing of lightsabers would halt, thereby leaving Luke to craft his own in between ESB and ROTJ.
What do you guys think?
(and yes, thank you, I know I'm giving it too much thought  )

All Jedi construct their own Lightsabers but it is tradition for a Padawan to model his off their master's saber. The same materials and parts are used to create the lightsabers which may describe why alot of them look similar. A Jedi can also create his/her saber in a mediting state which would also explain why they look similar. I think maybe it's just coincidence that most sabers look the same, but it is purely down to the same parts being used I know they're not mass-produced. Maybe someone else will be able to describe how a saber is made better than me.

I don't think it would be possible for thwm to be mass-produced, the idea is that building a lightsaber is a hard task, that only a Jedi can do. First you have to obtain the crystal that is right from very harsh locations where the climate isn't always the nicest, then they have to cut the crystals by hand and carefully align them into the correct position for the blade to burn in the right direction, if one crystal is about by the smallest of a microscopic fraction then the whole thing blows up in your hand and could kill you, so no, they could never be mass produced.

Yeah I think the Jedi have to make their own lightsaber by hand.
No mass production of the Sabers.
"Hey, price check on the Purple Lightsaber!"
"Attention shoppers, we are all sold out of green lightsabers!"
of course I could be wrong

THe one possibility that I thought of was that those sabers could have been those of Jedi that have recently died just prior to that moment and were picked up and salvaged. It did seem degrading to the notion of the nature of the lightsabers, but we can always explain it away so it comes out respectable. Hey if GL can do it, so can I.

Is there any info on what Obi did with it?

We don't know that Obi Wan actually made a new lightsaber. His could be the same one. It wasn't destroyed just kicked into a deep well. He could of gone to the bottom of the well to retrive it. We don't know for sure.
I also think that giveing those sabers to Anakin and Obi Wan was just easy movie makeing. Still, some Jedi do fight with two, so some could carry a spare if the chance of fighting with two does come up.
We never saw Dookus saber befor. What do you mean by that?

Yea Obi goes back to the well and concentrates really hard and brings the light saber up with the force. Dooku's, the shape I have never seen before.
