View Full Version : To buy or not to buy (off topic, slightly)

Should I buy AOTC on DVD in November??

It's just that I avoided buying TPM on DVD (although did rent it a few times), as I have a bad feeling that Lucasfilm will let us all buy the 3 prequel DVD's only to release a 6 film box set with addtional scenes cut into the original Tril with prequel characters in (Natalie Portman had apparently agreed to do this and I am putting good money on seeing a small troydarian scrap dealer somewhere).

As I have already bought the Tril on VHS 3 TIMES I don't want to have dupes of the prequels on DVD just so that I get the super-duper-version of the Orig Tril.

However, I am feeling sorely tempted by seeing AOTC on my home cinema with the speakers on FULL BLAST.

Advice ????????

I'd buy it. Even if they rerelease it later on it will probably have the same stuff or less since if they rerelease it in a boxset it would most likely be a one disc whereas the upcoming release is two disc. The Episode I DVD is getting rereleased in Pan Fullscreen (first release was only in Widescreen) along side the Episode II DVD and it's got the exact same features...except in full screen.

if it included a pack in of a new aotc exclusive micro machines vehicle:happy:

speaking o' which, that c3po mini head auction that i just snagged (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1556491566), the person who sniped at the last moment was willing to pay $46.00 samolians for just one of the little buggers, i was fortunate in that he only requested one of em, by me requesting all three, i was able to get two of em for 6 bucks each! anyway, the c3po's were offered as a mail in bonus with the initial release of the special edition trilogy when purchased from wal-mart.

If I go out on a Friday night (I have a performance tomorrow and rehearsals tonight so no boozing) I take about 50.00 and come home with nowt. I don't think twice.

Conversely, I could go into a clothes shop and see a top for 12.99 and worry about spending that kind of money.....

So, my advice to you is curb one night's drinking and buy the AOTC (not that you're an alcy)

Amazing that the man who is constantly pushing new technology on the film world, and who demanded full control of his franchise, has decided to release his latest achievements in pan and scan! WTF!? More and more DVDs go pan and scan and every day I get more and more scared that the DVD format will be ruined by the Blockbuster Video crowd. Now Lucas is giving in to the people who think their TV is broken because of the "black bars" on their screen. Makes me want to scream!

My rant is over now. Move along.

I saw it today and loved it.

Okay, here's my opinion on SW DVD.

Buy the three first-release prequel DVDs. It's the best quality you'll get, and the few added scenes don't really get in the way.

Buy the Laserdisc-ripped OT set in its original, non-SE format (used to be just VCD, now I believe there's a DVD set, too). The official DVDs will be SE/Archival, which will only fuel more love/hate debates.

The Archival DVD set won't look like the movies we grew up and fell in love with. So preserve film history - buy the original in digital. :)
