I am trying to find out if I start a new site (specifically forums to start) dedicated to Home Theaters, Audio, Video, DVD, etc. if you guys would help start it off.

I'm definitely interested, but what would you need done?

You know I'm on board for that Sir Steve. Since I love talking about DVD's. Just don't forget a Laserdisc section for us old timers that had those back in the day also. :)

Down with the clumsiness of LaserDisc ! ! !

I am likely to visit a DVD site, but when it comes to home theater stuff I'm just not into it.

I'm onboard for some DVD talk though . . . :)

Don't badmouth Laserdisc, Caesar. :p :D
Don't make me get the Ricky McCallum voodoo doll back out. ;) :D

Oh C'mon man I have so many Laserdiscs and some of them still sound better than certain DVD's out. Oh yeah I'm in for sure. I love everything that pertains to home theater. :D

I'd be there SirSteve. I'm a DVD nut like JarJar Binks.

SirSteve, I'd be all over that. I work for a local high end audio/video retailer, and would love to contribute what I know.

Yeah, I would definately go. I love movies, and even though I don't (yet) have or know much about home theatres, I would like to. Especially with my new, nice big furnished basement.

I'd probably pop in once in a while too

Sounds good. Looks like it's a go. I got a good domain name registered and will let you in on it once it resolves.

Not exactly. This venture is a different (for the most part, older) crowd so things will ran a little differently. In short, we won't put up with as much that happens around here. ;)

It'll be the same forums system and the ease of navigation to get around to different sections. What forum topics would you like to see that has not already been mentioned? What type of sections would you like to see? (ie. News, Reviews, etc)

I would go for a DVD easter egg section as well as a review one.

What about a section for finding good deals on DVDs? Like a search engine that can scan sites like buy.com and deepdvddiscount.com and give you a breakdown of the prices.

Yeah, MC's idea sounds really good.

And for the home theatre section, maybe a "how to" area, for people like me who are interested in starting.

What do you think about having a few people doing the official full reviews, with pics, etc., like HomeTheaterForum.com?

SirSteve, I like MC's idea of an Easter Egg section. :)

DEFINITELY create a Reviews section, because all of us are very opinionated and will love the opportunity to rattle off our pros and cons on any specific item.

If you can get a search engine like MC suggests, that would be cool . . . but even if you can't, I still like the idea of a Price section because we can pass around various sale price info on various products. If I notice a good deal somewhere, I'd gladly post it for anyone else who may be interested. :)

I would definatly drop in. ESPECIALLY is there was an easter egg section!

BTW, who all has the SW movies on laserdisc?

Beast

There already is a price search engine, that is where I find all the best deals on the net. I'm gonna hate giving all my secrets out, but I guess I should. :)

www.dvdpricesearch.com

That will take you to a page where you can type in a movie, and it will check the online retailers for you. Most of the time, Deep Discount DVD will be the cheapest. :)

And SK99, I have them as you likely know. Both of the big boxsets. :)

sith killer 99: I've got the Definative Collection and the Special Editions on LD and love them both. If you have a player I highly recommend them. The SE is easily DVD quality and the extras alone in the DC make it worth buying.

Sir Steve: I would love to see a DVD review system that could possibly compare all the versions of a particular movie. With all the re-issues going on some are better but others are lacking, this would be quite helpful in determining whether or not upgrading is necessary. It would also be nice to have a section that just reviews the transfer of the film and another section that deals with the extras. :)

I have thought about the LD's, but I never had a player.

Would it be worth it to hunt down a player and the movies?

It appears that GL may NEVER release the OT on DVD, just some hyped-up-over-edited-extra-super-dooper-added-scenes version.:(

Beast
09-05-2002, 10:30 PM
It would be worth it, in my opinion SK99. Not just for Star Wars, but there are alot of LD's that won't make it to DVD for a long time. Or when they do they won't have all the same extra features. Especially Criterion LD's that they don't have the rights to release on DVD. And The Frighteners, and it's 4 1/2 hour making of documentary. :)

Thank the maker!! A new DVD site with forums is going to feel so good. I like HTF's and DVDtalk's, but alot of the people that post there can be kinda stiff and boring. Can't wait until it's up and running. :)

There will be plenty of Forum topics with everything imaginable for Home Theater use (and DVD's are a BIG part of it!). Here is what I have so far for the DVD and LD forum:

DVD
- Reviews
- Easter Eggs
- Publications
- General Discussion
- International

LD (Laser Disc)
- Reviews
- General Discussion

Comments/Suggestions welcome.

How long will it take for you to finish the graphics???

Sounds good Sir Steve, glad to see you didn't forget an "International" section for people in other countries. I would suggest maybe grouping it into a "Multi-region" section instead for those people that have multi-region players. :)

I think the DVD reviews bit would be great but also, how about a forum for Special Features? There are some great documentaries and commentaries, deleted scenes etc on dvd's that would be great to talk about.
