VT!!!!! You stole my "SWAFMAN" avatar!

10-27-2001, 05:53 AM
It was a jungly island off the western coast of north Africa. Many southern European countries had claimed posession of it at one time or another over the centuries. The native inhabitants were an interesting and peaceful folk who adorned their bodies with intricate and mesmerizing tattoos. One day, after sampling their local fermented drink, I became all "squiggly-feeling" and let them cover my body in tattoo designs that look like something of a cross between Escher and a lunatic with a Spirograph.

(and yes, I'm definitely "padding" posts here to reach avatar privilege status SO I CAN RECLAIM MY AVATAR - VEEEEEE-TEEEEE!!!!!!)

10-27-2001, 06:28 AM
Hehe, I'm not far away! :D And I've got an avatar prepped and ready. :)

10-27-2001, 02:42 PM
since one apparently needs 75+ posts to use a custom aVaTar, i just didn't want yours to go to waste in the meantime ;) in return for "letting me" borrow it, i'll tell you how to activate it:
-click on your custom aVaTar attachment above;
-cut or copy its url;
-click on "user cp";
-click on "edit options";
-click on "change avatar";
-paste the attachment url into the custom link blank and click submit. that's how I did it :)
does anyone else here (75 & over) wanna demonstrate for swaffy how it's done? let's All be swaffy holdin a swaffytie :D

Nicely done, LT.

10-28-2001, 06:15 AM
Ok, in case anyone hasn't noticed, you can now see my new avatar. :D If anyone's confused about it, LTBasker is a key character in a couple SW and ST fan fic story ideas I'm working on, so I figured what would be more appropriate than a LT. Starfleet officer with a Stormtrooper helmet? ;)

10-28-2001, 06:23 AM
Okay, so VT totally stole my thunder :mad: ;) but, I'm still jazzed about being able to use a custom avatar. :D

10-28-2001, 06:32 AM
Um, I guess I didn't do a very good job with the avatar. I'm not supposed to be holding a "swaffytie." :rolleyes: It's supposed to be my body. See, I'm a "SWAFman." Like I'm a SWAF, with a head, arms and (IG88) robot legs growing out of a SWAF box. :p

10-28-2001, 09:40 AM
Which avatar looks better?

10-28-2001, 09:41 AM

10-28-2001, 09:47 AM
Hmm, I'd have to say the 2nd one is pretty cool. What editor are you using?

10-28-2001, 09:49 AM
LTB - I used Paintbrush

10-28-2001, 11:23 AM
Great work on the 2nd one Swaf-o, I dig it man, I diiiiig it! :cool:

Basker, very cool, though I needed the explanation to know it was a Starfleet uniform (since they're wearing the gray-shoulder ones now).

10-28-2001, 02:22 PM
. . .this time in a mania for custom aVaTars, via his new-classic, understated, jt-executed personal symbol, the coolest since the bantha-skull on fett's pauldron :D
so why would we tsk tsk about yours, ltb? cuz some don't like when people mix sw & trek? it's ok by me :)
swaffy: my VoTe's for #2. in fact, i think you oughta come up with some excuse to start new threads on all the other ssg fourms just so you can show it off. maybe doing so'd even drum up additional traffic for this forum :) while i spose your "swafbox halloween costume" i borrowed is kinda clever now that you've explained it, i admit to initial confusion. i also didn't know those were ig88 legs. instead, i thought maybe they were akin to the atrophied legs them roid-ragin upper-body-builders had in that sketch with jay mohr & emilio estevez- anyone see that one? ;D
np: kim carnes, "mistaken identity"

10-28-2001, 03:19 PM
.....in that case, I can't wait to ValidaTe you, too.

Swaffy, nice job, gives me faith that I'll be able to attempt something on my DTP-less PC. :)

GSJ are you going to work on a special one?

Do you guys have the Metz Judderman advert in the US - I have un bon idée?

np - Lady Marmalade - flawless ;)

10-28-2001, 08:00 PM
Thanks, all! I am staying w/ avatar v.2. Paintbrush and a lot of patience can accomplish almost anything.

10-28-2001, 10:47 PM
VT, I was being sarcastic about the tsk tsk thing. :D
JT, I like the color shoulder uniforms better than the grey ones, they the colored shoulder ones seem less... strict? I can't find a good word to describe it.

Meanwhile, Calvin is urinating on automobile logos all across the country! :D

Basker, I know what you mean, the gray shoulders on the current TNG-era (as opposed to the Enterprise-era) uniforms are much more cold and military with only the colored dickey/undershirt beneath to give a spark of life.

i had met my "ex" playing a game of space invaders (http://www.klov.com/S/Space_Invaders.html) back in '79. for her 22nd birthday (hey, we got married waaaaay to young, one of the reasons it fizzeled out among other things), anyway, for her 22nd birthday, i saw an add in the local long island paper where we lived at the time, for a space invaders game (full sized, just like the one in the link), that a bar was selling for 25.00 dollars! i bought it, got the drummer for our band at the time to help me haul it in his econoline (1st rule of forming a band, get a drummer with a van)(trust me on that one!)dragged it up two flights of stairs (ugh, the thing was rediculously heavy, not to mention that it's center of gravity was somewhere out near ds9!), and presented it as her birthday gift. (as i recall, she bought me underwear for my birthday that year :rolleyes: )

it took up our entire living room, leaving no place to sit (the thing was huge!) but man did we have tons of hours of fun playing that thing!

i wonder if she still has it?

Jeddah, my dear, it's not because my system is old, it's because you used a granny file format of BMP instead of gif or jpg (netscape don't read BMPs because they're often funky). My preschool-attending niece is younger than this file format! ;)

VT, there's a program out there called MAME, it's an arcade emulator and it can play nearly EVERY old arcade game on your computer. Not "Nintendo redid this so it'll work on my N64" or "a streamlined version for Shockwave", no, real actual games that require credit key-ins (you tell the system you just put a quarter in), and it's supposedly free (though I don't have it, a bunch of folks I know have the emulator and tons of games and they love it).

Why the frowny-face next to Dig-Dug? That game, Tempest, Spy Hunter, Defender, Mr. Do, and Centipede were some of my favorite arcade games of all time when I was a lad of small age.

GSJ, having real arcade games at home is always great IMO, we had a pinball machine when I was a teenager, took up half the living room but it was way cooler than going down to the local arcade ("what's an arcade grandpa?") and dropping ten bucks on quarters. Sorry your ol' lady stiffed ya out of a good reciprocal gift. BTW, I know it's too late now, but why didn't you just take the monitor out of the cabinet and take it upstairs in a second trip?

what, got tired of your johnny rotten avatar gsj? put some clothes on that obscene yutz :p oh man, your link was fun :D you All should try it! i haven't done them games in over almost 2 decades! man them things were slick, no wonder i was addicted. like interactive poetry they were, so smooth and stylin.
asteroids deluxe was a totally satisfying sequel- too bad the simulator can't reproduce its cool black-lit backdrop.
try space duel's twin-pod option, that thing's hypnotic :cool:
graViTar calms that vibe down a notch, then ups the methodical tactics and piloting finesse factor! a sublime mix of tension and calm, which even features orbital patrols which are ancestors of my presonal aVaTar :cool:
and tempest, a mindblower when it came out that remains toothy & ruthless today :)
ok, Now tell me where i go to play xevious (new-agey silicon valley under alien attack :) ), reactor (http://klov.com/R/Reactor.html), tailgunner (http://klov.com/T/Tail_Gunner.html), tron (http://klov.com/T/Tron.html), stargate (http://klov.com/S/Stargate.html), starblade (http://klov.com/S/Starblade.html) and omega race (http://klov.com/O/Omega_Race.html) :)

crappy game but great cabinet graphics: solar fox (http://klov.com/S/Solar_Fox.html) ;)

SWAFFY, I SO am dying to go to the States (since age 4). I think I was made to live there I certainly have had enough of Bmth so if anyone wants to claim me as family, I'll be over in a jiffy :)

We had the offer of moving to SD a few years ago when John was offered at NRAD when he quit the Navy but he wanted to work for £200.00 a week on his own bi'ness:frus: :cry: :cry:

I get pangs of jealousy every time I see the VT/R2 pics of the Tatty Muvver ;) and think a meet up of the board would be greater than - "well more money than you can possibly imagine.";)

11-20-2001, 04:50 PM

(nice to see the reference wasn't totally missed) ;)

Once you finish your R2 unit. we'll have to work on getting you some kind of free trip to the U.S. to display it, courtesy of some deep-pocket :greedy: SW convention promoter, or something!

11-21-2001, 07:50 AM
Ack, the R2 builders keep things on the down-lo following Cease and Desist orders from Lucasfilm (this was more aimed at the people making C3-po and ST armour for profit whereas we all do things at cost price like on these here boards).

Truth is, once it's completed, there'll be more cash around (it's cost me a lot of money so far, the ankle braces were 60$ and the aluminium spun head is $190.00).

11-21-2001, 07:54 AM
Also, the "R2 D2 under the dome" documentary on FOX on 25th November is not being screened in the UK which is so gay. I hate our 4 channels

The graphic elements of the gameplay, now reduced to their most basic forms of repeated geometric patterns and binary abstract shapes, assume a timelessness" :cool:

more like 2 bit if you ask moi!

as fer classic vid gaming, i couldn't agree with you more. less is definately more! i remember back oh so long ago when joust 1st came out, at the time it was the most advanced graphic game, but i felt that the playability had lost something in exchange for glamour. old 8 bit standards like space invaders, space wars, and tempest had me feeding quarters through the slots like there was no tomorrow.

the quest for realism in these things mystify me, hell, if i wanted real to life, i'd just stay the hell away from the games entirely, my life is plenty real enough fer me as it is!

I'm experimenting with Microsoft Front Page, and have created a home page. The main page has a pinup girl, so please don't go there at work or at home if the kiddies are lurking around. It is absolutely not pornographic, but definitely adult.

I am only mentioning it here because I've included a Collections page that has links to my collection page on SSG, R2dee2's Toyforce site and JediTricks' Star Wars Graphics page. I also have a separate Links page that includes one to this forum.

I want to make sure it is okay with R2, JT, and SirSteve that I post links to their web pages. If any of you do not want to be linked from my site, I will remove your links immediately. I'd also like to know of any other forum regulars who have a home page they'd be willing to share for me to add to either my Links or Collections page. We could maybe create a sort of "web ring" maybe?

Also, I'm taking heavy flak from "lady swaffy" (thanks, VT!) regarding the pinup girl, so if your only objection to my including a link to your site is due to the girlie picture on my main page, then be aware that I'll be changing the picture VERY soon to something innocuous, like a car or a space ship.

The home page link is updated in my profile, but I'll post it here, too...

Swaffy, I couldn't view your site and I tired to refresh too :( I don't know if it's my connection (which is Z95 Headhunter-speed, unfortunately) or some script probs.

I wanted to be able to moan prudishly at the pinup :D but instead I'll just have to ask that you convey my sincere condolences to Swaffina for having to put up with a Male chauvanist muvver :p

I couldn't see much either, but let me caution you, MS Front Page is, as I've been told, a disturbing nightmare. However, good luck with your new project and if you feel that you need to link to my lame little Geocities site, I have no problem with that.

The main page takes a good full minute or so to load, due to the music and animation if you're on a phone modem. Once the music starts playing, the buttons to get to the other pages (in the upper right of the page) should pop up pretty soon. I'll look at dropping the quality of the music's wav file to reduce its filesize and speed up the page load. I already dropped it to where I thought the sound quality was minimally acceptable, but maybe I was being too critical.
