I'd thought that Lucasfilm had lost its sense of humor. Then a friend from Austria gave me a candy egg (the ones with the toy inside), and I found the most whimsical Star Wars collectible yet...
Happy Hippo Star Wars.
The pictures say it all:

I was fortunate enough to get Dark Laser first, the Hippo version of Darth Vader. These are about an inch tall, unarticulated, but Laser has a removeable (and sturdy) lightsaber. Great pose, very good paint application, and definately puts some fun back into collecting.
I eagerly wish to obtain them all, and as such, these foreign gems get a 5 out of 5.

Damn Lord T, those are pretty damn cool. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on Ebay to see if I can get some of them. The only disapointment is that there is no Jar Jar or Stormtrooper. :)

They look really really cute and cool... When I first saw it, I was like... What?!?!? More lame gimmicks, but after I took a closer look at it, it just grows on you!! Right now I'm considering to buy the whole set from a friend... But unfortunely it cost quite a bit, US$37... :(
To buy or not to buy... thats the question
Cheers...

The figures are stamped (C) Ferrero (C) LFL
The insert has:
(C) Ferrero except all Star Wars-related property
(C) 2002 Lucasfilm Ltd & TM
All right reserved.
I'll get my roommate to scan when he gets back on Sunday.

Whoa! That's wild! For that stuff to be licensed product, $37 doesn't seem so high anymore.

It's nice to see a Yoda item without a Lightsaber. ;)

Artoo's News ( http://www.artoosnews.com/ ) has updated with high-quality pictures and confirmation of licence.
And there are probably two sets of these. This is the Dark Laser they have scanned:

But my insert says Black Edition, and the hippo skin tone isn't blue, but gray.
Here are the other ones:

there have already been some happy hippo lines but this is the first that features starwars
I even have some normal happy hippos here at home, maybe I can take a pic if anybody is interested in seeing them (probably not)

Is happy hippo a kid's book character? or a cartoon show? I'm just a little confused

the're just made up characters for the "Ueberachschungs Eier" (surpise eggs in english)
ok so I'll explain it for all you guys:
usualy the eggs have something to build in it, like a little car or so
but everytime, there is a special line (like the SW happy hippos atm) but one of these figs is only included in every 7th egg
I hope this helps
