These films are definatly some of my favorite. I love how they were written, acted, and filmed. I especially love Marlon Brando's acting in the first film. Such a classic character. James Caan was very good too. I though the second film was great with it's development of Michael and the story of Vito Corleone. And I loved Part III because of its continuity of the first two films and the continuing story of Michael and his family.

Truely excellent movies.

Any other fans out there?

I'm a fan ! :)

Yes, I too enjoy the third film. It's not my favorite by any means, but I don't dislike it the way some fans do. What disturbs me about it is the way Connie turns out . . . so ruthless. I guess it's partly understandable because she embraces her family's way of doing things, but it just feels tragic to me.

So much to love about those movies . . . Fredo and Moe Green, Mike and the Salozzo sitdown . . . Santino "look what they've done to my boy" answering as payback for Bruno Tatallia . . .

I think the second film is better in many ways, and DeNiro is cool as Vito - but on a personal level the first is my favorite. I like how it deals with the Corleone family as a whole while Mike begins to rise. Part 2 is just wonderful in extending the family's reach and the power of Michael.

Bada bing !

Huge fan! I can't get enough of this trilogy! What do you think of a sequel trilogy?

Sequel Trilogy? How so Boss? I don't think they could use Michael's kids because Anthony is a famous singer and Mary is dead. Maybe take off where Vincent (Andy Garcia) is the new Don Corleone?

Hmm...sequel trilogy.......not so sure there are enough characters left that would be of interest to warrant it.

Mario Puzo (RIP) once expressed interest in GF 4; it would be about a young Sonny and his rise in the ranks including his first act of murder.

you couldn't really call it "GodFather" though............Sonny never made it that far.

You would have to focus on vincent............and that would suck.

I don't thimk it would be a really strong story, but Vincent was cool!

Can you go somewhere and NOT find Godfather fans? Is there anyone who isn't a Godfather fan?

Sequels? I think they went to far with numero three. Although that was the first one I popped in when I got the DVD set because it had been so long since I had seen it. It wasn't as bad as I remembered...just not up to par with the other two.

I think the first one has transcended good and bad. It simply is. Everyone who is a fan of movies needs to watch it so they may gauge what makes a great cinematic experience. With out the Godfathers, you wouldn't have the Goodfellas and the Casinos and the Sopranos. It's a linchpin in our popular cultural.

No he did not, but his rise within the family did take place under Vito - there's your titular character. ;)

They could still do it . . . MAYBE . . . if they could get DeNiro to convincingly play a late 40s Vito, some young buck could come in as Santino (Scott Caan? LOL :D ).

Like I said, I do love it while some people deplore it.
But at the same time I agree with you fully about it not being up to par. Although I do think the inclusion of Robert Duvall would have gone a long way . . . :)

Yes, I'm reading that. I will probably give it a rental, but I'm not a big fan of gangster/mafia type flics. I'm always willing to give it a shot though. I'll let you know what I think when I get around to renting it. :)

Just a quick question. In Part III Connie gives that candy to the guy at the opera. And during the opera she sees him die. Was the candy poisoned or did he just happen to die?

Love the book. Hate the films.

I heard recently that publishers are looking to find someone to turn the Godfather II and III films into books. Apparently they aren't looking for someone to be the next Puzo, but someone with their own unique style to continue the story.

Just have to say it again - I hate the films.

I saw this in a news article Thursday or Friday of last week: There is a deal being worked on right now for a fourth book, which most likely lead to another movie.

yeah, it was poisoned cuz if you really watch her face its like she knows, plus she has her binoculars focused on him. why would she do that unless she knew he was going to die?

anyways, the Godfather films are probably the best dramtic films of all time. I think all of them are told well and well acted, even the third one. but, i believe they go in order of which ones best and that sort. i think a forth one is posible but instead of just focusing on sonny's rise to the top, why not do another split story between sonny's rise and vincents rise, seein how they are much like the same type of hot-headed characters.
