it has a buy it now of $120.00 (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1655760400), now granted, the last couple of zaaps that were on ebay a few months ago, went for like $50.00 buy it now, but i'm not sure if the seller relized the rareity of this item. this thing has sold regularly in the past of $150.00 and up.

only 4800 of these were ever made, and they were only available in japan.

to get more dope on the zaap go here to r2dee2's fabulous site, and find out what the fuss is about (http://fan.starwars.com/MicroForce/zaap.html)

there's also a avon vaders tie (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1656467346) being offered for those of you who require a complete collection!

Oh man GSJ, you nearly gave me a heart attack! I thought you meant this in the metaphorical sense, that there was another ridiculously-impossible-to-get Action Fleet set out there that we didn't know about. *phew!*

Good luck to the bidder who goes for this! :)

I emailed the seller to verify it was a never-opened box, and upon confirmation have placed a bid. I know it's a free world, but I'd sure appreciate a break on competition on this one.

Klingon discommendation, doesn't that include pain-sticks in the crotch? ;)

man, you was looking for that for the loooooongest time!

way to go swafman!

we want a full critique once it arrives!

way to go!

11-14-2001, 02:00 PM
I shouldn't've spent that much $ right now on something so selfish:greedy:, but as you noted, I've been looking for one of these for a very long time. I promise a full report as soon as it arrives, which may be as soon as the end of this week.

GSJ, I didn't mail your tape yet 'cuz I didn't wanna make a separate trip to the post office if I needed a money order for the Zaap, but since that was paid over the phone, I'll get your tape out asap.:)

11-16-2001, 07:00 PM
A write-up will be done as soon as I get back from indulging in NYC yummies.

11-16-2001, 07:02 PM
GSJ, can you please move this to the pre-existing Zaap thread. My bad. Sorry, man.

(I dood it for him :D - JT)

Well, before I pass out (only had two hours sleep with 600 miles driving since 07:00 AM Friday), here's some observations on the Zaap. Sorry, but for $100.00, I just can't afford to make this one an opener. Maybe some day......

But, from a peering-in-the-window perspective:

The VaderTIE is the smaller version.

The 'pewterization' really POPS the detail work on the sculpts, particularly on the 1/3 of the inner surface of the VaderTIE's "wings" where the fuselage mounts to them. I strongly recommend adding some grayish paint wash effect to this wing surface on any regular painted VaderTIEs in your collection to bring out that great detail work.

The figures look great, too.

Speaking of the "wings" on the VaderTIE, I just compared the Zaap version to five others (3 large & 2 small versions) from my collection, and the Zaap's wing panels are mounted opposite from every other one I have. The Zaap has its right-side wing mounted on its left plyon, and vice-versa. You can tell by the extra raised "bar" of detail on the upper-center-rear of the outer surface of the wings. On the Zaap, this raised detail bar is on the lower-center-rear.

The pewter finish is kinda chintzy-looking on the lower-forward portion of the main fuselage of the x-wing, like it was applied too lightly, but then there are stray glops of it in a couple places. Still, it pops the engine detail work very nicely on the nacelles aft. They could've used a bit more of the black in the detail lines in the wing-tip laser cannon cylinders.

But enough nitpicking. It's a great displayable! It's number 0355 of 4800. It has both Japanese and English writing on the bottom box panel, but all other box panels are all English. The box is in nice shape. The side panels are not the die-cut perforated window type. They're the solid, non-cutout type. Notably, the artwork on the side panels, where it displays a photo showing an action feature of the ships, has been re-shot with the pewter models. I think that showed a nice note of quality and pride in their product & packaging.

If you have any other questions, lemme know.

though there is another auction for one here (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1662825434)

the reason why i am posting here, is for this auction here (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1663589502). it's an individually numbered at-as/landspeeder kaybee exclusive 2 pack. this one is number 0002!

the only other numbered 2 pack that i have ever seen up for auction on ebay, is one that was included with all the other numbered ships, that i had won over 2 years ago. (each of the ships in that auction were numbered 0048)

what's also interesting, is that the seller indicates that this particular numbered package was limited to a run of 1500. i had always assumed that the run was 2500, the same as the other numbered classic ships.

11-19-2001, 03:00 PM
upon seeing R2's bid already in place, I respectfully stand down. R2, if the bidding goes higher than you are willing to pay, and you have DEFINITELY decided to bow out, please post here and let me know. Only at that time would I ever I consider placing a bid.

11-19-2001, 05:13 PM
AHhh, I also won't place a bid on it even though it is the only #ed AF I still need. I'll keep an eye on it though and if R2 gets outbid I'll have to through down a bid (as long as Swaffy doesn't beat me to it).

11-19-2001, 06:37 PM
Even if R2 gets outbid, I'll wait for her to state definitively that she has opted-out of the auction, as we all know it is sometimes prudent to place your final best bid at the last possible second.

I, too, was outbid on the Zaap. But thanks to the honor and restraint of the regulars here on the forum, I was given the opportunity to rebid on a later day and subsequently win.

11-20-2001, 12:30 AM
I didn't even think of that, I'll also wait for R2 and then you Swaffy to be done before I go for it. Although at that point I'm sure it'll have to be well above what I'd be willing to spend.

11-20-2001, 07:59 AM
Well done, Mr. 43.

11-20-2001, 09:19 AM
Thanks guys:D I bid on the 2 pack before I saw GSJ's post....just saw his post this morning...otherwise I would have stated my intentions. This is one of the few numbered ones I've yet to acquire. I'm a little nervous about this one and am afraid there will probably be some last minute bidding on this. If SWAFMAN AND S43 notice that I am outbid on this, please feel free to bid on this....as long as you can send me some good scans if you win!!:D

SWAFMAN congrats on the Zaap and thanks for the very nice description!

GSJ, I frankly don't know what the production run was on the numbered two-pack. Perhaps it was indeed different than the other #ed ships. JediTricks, any info there?

r2dee2 wins 2-pack # 0002 - cool!

complete with trading cards and varient paint schemes

x-wing, shuttle, at-at, and snowspeeder (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1675413532)

also, here's an auction for the 1st 6 silver labeled action fleet (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1675868512), also included is a small gold labled vader tie which appears to be the tough to find non-weathered version. also, this auction includes the death star play set

12-21-2001, 12:05 PM
GSJ: The KB Landspeeder and At-St 2-pack numbered edition was not limited to 1500. I just won one (and got it today) and it's numbered 1598.

So I now have all the numbered sets (not nearly as nice as yours GSJ, don't you have them all numbered #38?) I have 3 number 0008s but the rest are all different.

Now if only that JC Penny's AF At-At would show up somewhere I'd be all set.

congrats on completing your numbered set!

those are the only mm/af toys that i will not open

12-22-2001, 12:49 PM
GSJ: Sorry for being wrong about the number. Last time I heard about them was at least a year ago, at least I was only off by a single digit.

I didn't think I was going to get that set anytime soon. The first one I saw on ebay was the one R2 was bidding on. I wasn't going to outbid her even though I really really wanted it. Luckily about a week later another one was listed as a lot with a few other AF items. It had a minimum of 40.00 and a Buy Now of 62.00. I thought about taking it for 62.00 but decided to gamble and threw a bid of 40.00 down. A few days later (I hate 7 day auctions) someone outbid me and the bid was 41.00. At that point I started to worry a little and started thinking I should have taken it for 62.00. I outbid the other guy and had the high bid of 42.00. Surprisingly for the next few days all the way up until it ended no one else bid and so I got it for 42.00 (50.80 with shipping). I did throw a max bid of 80 something down just to be safe but I'm glad it didn't get anywhere near that.
