Have you seen auctions that were so outrageously priced that you just scratched your head, then kind've chuckled, because you didn't really know whether this seller was serious or not?

Well, I thought this thread could be a humorous jab at some of those sellers who are so over the top they must think we are complete buffoons. . .or not.

So, without further adieu, I will start with this lovely contribution:

This seller has up for bid nearly all of the released-to-date Saga 3 3/4" figures (a total of 60 to be exact). Hardly any variations are included. AND THE AUCTION HAS A STARTING BID OF $5,000!!!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1785190098

ENJOY!

Let the contributions begin. . .

Hahahahaha!!!

This one DEFINATLY gets the "What was he thinking award".

Let's see, my math is a bit rusty:

60 figures
X $4.99
----------
$299.40

PLUS Tax @ 6.00% (let's call it $18.00 even)

PLUS 60 Star Cases, let's say $1.25 each X 60 = $75.00

So that would be:

$299.40
$18.00
+ $75.00
------------
$392.40

We'll call it $400.00 for fun and add $35.00 for shipping. WOW, only $5000.00 for some guy's initial investment of less than $450.00!!! This guy must be taking economic lessons from Hillary Clinton.;)

No. . .

$83 and 33 friggin cents!!!:crazed:

What's even worse is its not even a complete set!!!

There is no #46 or #48 there. The #15 & #16 dont even have backgrounds with them, so they are not the "harder to find" version of them.

Not to mention he didnt even throw in the TRU R2!!!

That was so funny! Thanks for the great laugh!

This one's worse than that person selling the case of 32 silver r2's for 650 bucks!!!

Thanks for the laugh!:D

Noticed that too. What a joke!

Whenever you (or any of you for matter) come across an auction like this, add the link. . .

We could all use the laugh. . .at their expense, of course.

Ok, here's a good one! :)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1787160406

I could put a down payment on a house for that or by half of a C- class Mercedes Benz!!! :)

I'm not debating the authenticity of it, just how much someone might pay for a 2 inch piece of plastic. However, if ya got the money to burn, go fer it! :)

Just thought it was interesting, nothing more!

This life casting of Mark Hammel for the Star Wars series is so lifelike and realistic that it's like having Luke Skywalker sitting in your room. It stands about 15-16 inches high.

Wow, Mark has really went downhill since Star Wars. I just don't see the resemblance.

The Jawa does bring up an interesting point though. There are so many counterfeit vinyl capes out there, that this is one instance where you want to get authenticated. I doubt anybody's going to buy, so he should just keep it, as it has shown up on top-10 most valuable SW items lists.

And you'd be surprised...there are people who collect vintage cardbacks. But not like the Threepio offered. Most collectors want clean, unpunched, uncut, untorn cards.

Maybe even a little better than this:

I would love to have a missle-silo house! I've actually been in one too! It was THE coolest house I've ever seen! Seriously

Or make a house out of a C-141 or B-52 Bomber! Totally fun and different and you could make the cockpit into your own personal entertainment center as it could have a liquid crystal display and you could watch movies, play video games or what have you or deactivate the LQD so you could let the sun in or the stars!

I've actually thought about this as you can buy airplanes from the boneyards in Tuscon, AZ for pennies a pound!!! Granted, that's a lot of poundage, but not so if it is gutted! The most expensive part would be to transport it to where your property would be. Again though that wouldn't be so bad as you could section it out!

Just a thought :crazed:

I won a copy of the Star Wars Chronicles from a person on eBay. It took nearly 3 months, and having to use Squaretrade before I got the book. Then when I opened it, the book at a huge dent in the cover, and the clasp was broken on the die cut case. I wrote this person back, and keep getting promises to send out a "mint" copy. In this persons last response to me, they promised to refund my money if I didn't get a new copy by last Monday. The only other bad eBay experience I had, was the two "Kubricks" I had won, that ended up being knockoffs. You live, you learn.

Those were pretty funny sith_killer_99!!!

Found this one. I don't care if it is AFA certified, I bought 5 of these at Wal-Mart for less than this.eBay auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3130009974&category=2476)

sith_killer_99

hehehe...

He lists the figure as U-85 and the pic clearly says U80!

I can't believe people actually do this. They buy cases and ship them to AFA to be opened and handled with "gloves" then put into an acrylic case. Nevermind the factory workers that had their meat hooks all over them before they left the company.

This is a $5.00 action figure people!!! A toy!

What's more, I managed to snag a couple of these during the two for the price of one sale.

Here's a new one:

You'll notice at the bottom of all the listed posters it says:

Note: You are bidding on a collection of photographs. These are not original posters but professional photographs taken of original posters.

I'm glad I read that before putting in a bid.

I was going to put a couple in here that I saw yesterday for "Not Yet Releashed" clone trooper sets as well as the battle droid sets. I'll take my chances finding those at the retail outlets.

That's a great story, but I don't belive a bit of it. Real spooky, sounds like it would make one hell of a movie. There would have to be some killing involved of course. A cross between The Blair Witch Project, Darkness Falls, The Ring, and Fear.com. It would be a cool touch at the end of the movie if the jar was sold on ebay too. Just to leave it open for a sequal. The name of the movie could stay the same "Ghost in the Jar" Starring Michael Rapaport and a Goth Mini Driver.

It would be nice if someone actually bought the ridiculous thing and went after the seller in court for fraud. He specifically says he's offering "the 'Ghost in the Jar'. With it I am sure you will be getting the 'Black Thing' also." If it turns out there is no Ghost in that jar, and no "Black Thing" matching his description shows up - then the Seller should be put in jail.

Why do you think he won't ship USPS? He doesn't want to get busted for mail fraud.

Ebay seller Mrs.Miniver rocks. First she puts up a crappy auction for pictures of movie posters for 35K. That doesn't sell. So after numerous attempts, she finally decides to change the look of the auction. So now, it's a "Business Opportunity" for the grand old price of 42K. So she couldn't find a buyer at 35K, but for now she can get 7K more? The last time I checked, when something is priced too high, you lower the cost until you find demand for it. Not raise it.

Well the seller claims the boxes were from the Mexicon. Unless someone can verify that they ran out of the Silver Fett at the convention, it's possible this guy bought the remainders. And the US Fan Club was not in charge of this distribution in Mexico -- The Mexican fan club was.

So anyone go to the Mexian Star Wars convention and can verify if they did or didn't run out of Silver Fetts?

Also the one picture that shows the guy had another guy in the picture, he has been covered up. And the picture with them shaking hands and smiling like morons is gone. Too funny. and like there are only 3 sealed cases in the world. How dumb does he think we are. Sure it would be hard to buy a sealed case here in the states at a convention, but its not like he has the last of the figures ever made. At first thsi auction made my blood boil, no I am getting a huge laugh out of it.

I like how, in true "scam" fashion, he asks you to "imagine what they'd go for"....... that is one of the lamest hard-sell techniques going...
Mebbe the guy is mixed up with some bad types, and he HAS to get the money or his life is forfeit... that is the only way I can see coming off so desperate...... mebbe if he changes the pitch some more it'll somehow get even more pathetic... THAT would be cool!!!

True. I'm going to "imagine" that they'll be going no place and we'll be seeing them re-listed for a lot less. Can't wait to see his AFA figures listed also.

Has anyone been watching this auction? It is getting funnier by the day. The guy must be getting harassed or something. It keeps changing. It first started out at $4000 for the case with free shipping and like 6 pictures, a few with 2 guys acting all smug and cool. Then it was changed to $3000 with free shipping, 3 or so pictures were removed, and one picture remained of the 2 guys, but one guy got covered up and also a sad story about NBA tickets was added. Now the latest version there is no sad story, the price has been lowered to $2100 and shipping is now $60 and no pictures of either of the guys.................I so cant wait to how this ends..............without it selling of course!!

mabudonicus
07-19-2003, 08:47 AM
Yeah, good stuff..... mebbe he "imagined" that if he lowered the price, and got rid of the REALLY HOKEY story bits, he might have a chance to get at least what he paid for them.... looks like the guys supply has taken a bit of a hit, too......
Keep your eyes on the bouncing ball, fellows!!!

Get your mint in near mint box Imperial Shuttle for only twice retail!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3140548873&category=2474

This is the very limited edition FAO Schwarz Tyderium Shuttle vehicle, Mint in NM/Mint box. There were only 5000 of these produced, and have long since been sold out. I was going to hang on to this for a while longer, because I believe the price for these will rise to the $300-$400 level real soon. I am letting this one go now in order to quickly raise cash to purchase another large collection. This ship will look great with your other vehicles and playsets!

What a jug head!lol :D

What a jug head!lol :D

I sent him an email.....

Hi,
The auction you listed may not sell due to 2 important factors.

1. Only 5,000 shuttles were sold through FAO, but another 15,000 have been made available through KBToys.com and EntertainmentEarth.com.

2. Retail on the shuttle at FAO was $120.00, but has been reduced to $100 at KBToys.com and $110 on EntertainmentEarth.com.

One other thing....your shipping cost of $30 is inflated compaired to both E-Tailers offering this toy. Both companies are charging $12-15 for shipping.

Good luck selling it at you asking price, it is a very cool toy. I myself bought 2 for less than what you are asking, and I must say I'm happy I did.

Thanks,
Chuck Mc

I'll let you guys know if he replies. ;)

Kidhuman,

That seller has all 4 of those accessory packs for sale (they were the 2nd set that never made it to retail). That German toy website -- can't remember the name of it right now -- had all 4 for $60 total at one time. This seller has 2 for $60 and the other 2 for $40 if you do the "Buy It Now" option. I would be really surprised if they sold.

sith_killer_99
07-30-2003, 11:39 AM
Yeah I saw this guy's auctions for all 4 wave 2 Accessory sets.

I never did buy them, though I wish I had. :( I saw them on a couple of websites back in 99-00, but never at retail.

BTW, here's an up date on the Ebay "Silver Fett" sealed case issue:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2476&item=3140594489

Yep, one guy has yet another sealed case and the other guy actually got a sealed case and sent it in to AFA for the "U" grade treatment.

Ooooh, look, my silver Fett is "Uncirculated" that means it hasn't been touched by human hands since it was lovingly put in it's case by some guy making less than minimum wage.

Here's a new one. It seems that the Blue Clone Trooper is the first "color" clone set to ship after the plain old vanilla clones. This Ebay (hall of shame) award goes to the bidder who has agreed to pluck down...$47.00 plus $6.00 shipping (so far).

Yes these will be a bit difficult to find, but $53.00 for the set?!?!

....and what's with the "bounty hunter"? What is she, a Legends of Zelda figure!?!...and that ship! It's like this dude robbed some kid's toybox, stuck it all together, and calls it a "Rare as Hell!" playset.....lololol...give me a break! It reminds me of an auction I saw on Ebay (and posted here) right after George Harrison died. Some lady took this stupid looking porcelain babydoll, dressed it in a purple (?) somewhat "military" looking outfit (r.e. Sgt. Pepper's), drew a mustache on it, and called it a "Extremely Rare George Harrison Doll". Being a Beatles fan, I was truly offended. It was the only time I've ever emailed a seller. It was a pretty good bashing that told them how ashamed they should be and how ridiculously asinine the doll looked.

No kidding, it was removed the next day! :D They probably tried again...I never checked back...but I felt good for the rest of the day! :)

Aaaanyway, I'm going to trust in the integrity of our fellow collector's and predict this auction ends with zero bids.

Why does the seller know that less than 10 were made, but not how MANY were made??? He knows how many WEREN'T made, that's great, but...
And then the quote about "you just add up the value of the material and program and machining times it would be over 1200 dollars" yeah, that's awesome... by that logic just watching "Gigli" should be worth 40 million dollars :D

It seems pretty cheesy to me. Shes alright, but she isnt Stacy's mom either. I dont know, wouldnt you feel kind of dirty trying to sell an item that way? Its like you selling something that you know females like. Lets say an antique for example, and you show yourself in a speedo next to it trying to act like thats cool.

Exhaust Port
11-27-2003, 03:13 PM
Well women aren't nearly visually driven as males so they could probably care less who you have standing next to a valuable antique. There is nothing wrong with having some attractive women next to your product. It draws attention but that's about it. It's similar to having attractive women stand next to the newest Ferrari or Benz. 99% of the guys there can't afford the car but they're intrigued because of the eye candy. If they have the same women standing next to a Yugo, guys might show up but I doubt that they'll stay that long. Women might draw us in but if the product is of no luck then we'll get bored and leave.

I have to give this guy a lot of credit for orginality and even being able to have an attractive women to pose with his toys. You have to admit that the average SW fan doesn't have that ability. Way to score one for the team. :)

Nothing against EBAY, its a cool place and I have had GREAT amazing luck with some of the Star Wars collectibles I have purchased over the years, but the horror stories are out there.. The ones where sellers were not completely honest in their listings.. It really is risky when you do have collectibles on sale, and their cost is contigent upon their 'mint' condition- and then you get them and their was damage done 'in transit'.. This happened to me once, fortunately I had not spent tooo much..

Well the way I always get around the ridiculous and bloated shipping fees is that I ALWAYS ask for a receipt from the post office and any handling fee receipts.. and in all the cases, the shipping costs 'miraculously' dropped. What I have purchased were QUITE a few theatre/store banners..

Darth Kirk
02-12-2004, 07:33 PM
Well, for that listing Kidhuman, they actually have a FREE USPS box that should not be a cost incurred when deducing the shipping costs.. I don't know, everytime I have asked for a receipt, I have had one and it was not a bloated shipping price..

Kidhuman
02-12-2004, 10:57 PM
Well for one thing, he is saying that "he" wants delivery conformation. The prospective buyer should not have to pay for that. Drop the shipping 5 bucks right there. I just sent a box to California a while back and guess what? It was 5 bucks shipping. Okay, Hawaii is a little further so lets say ten bucks off shipping sounds reasonable for that. He is just out to rip someone off IMO. Why would anyone let a carded Ephant Mon go for 99 cents. He is hoping someone doesnt see the shipping price and just click BIN.

My favorite quotes from that auction.

SOME STORIES ABOUND, STATING THAT SOME VERY IRATE CUSTOMERS RETURNED TO THE STORES DEAMANDING REPLACEMENTS

OTHER STORIES ABOUND, STATING THAT SOME VERY ASTUTE PEOPLE SAW THE VALUE IN THIS

STILL OTHER STORIES ABOUND, STATING THAT SOME SINGLE DISCS WERE RETURNED TO 20TH CENTURY FOX ASKING FOR A REPLACEMENT

and

OBVIOUSLY, THIS OPPORTUNITY DOES NOT COME CHEAP AND I AM OPEN TO SERIOUS OFFERS TO END THIS AUCTION AND SELL AT THE RIGHT PRICE - WHAT THAT PRICE IS, DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH YOU WANT THIS IN YOUR COLLECTION

Wow, I just checked my DVD set, and it looks almost identical. I should sell it and try to make a mint since it might be rare. Quotes were halarious!

Apparently the thing with this one is that ROTJ the movie is on the ANH disk. I haven't heard of this so I'm calling BS.

If it's not in my cranial archives then it doesn't exist.;)

"You are bidding on :

Count Dooku #13 MOC

with red Lightsaber and standing piece!"

Does he mean a "stand"?

"This item was pulled fresh from the box and if it were graded by AFA, it would receive the grade of U90 (Uncirculated). "

Okay.
