Which of the first 5 Star Wars movies would you consider to be the best?

I think Return of the Jedi was the best followed closely by Episode 2

EpV gets my vote. The bad guy wins for once! And damn, when I saw how things were left at the end of EpV, I was like, I gotta wait how long to see how this pans out?

Followed by EpIV, II, VI, and I. But I'm betting EpIII will be up there. The bad guys are gonna win again!

Oh, and Welcome, clonehead!

ANH
ESB
AOTC
TPM
ROTJ

I like ESB's and AOTC's action best. But, as far as a "movie", ANH gets my vote. (And by "movie" I mean in the artistic sense. Now I'm soundin' all beatnick. Groovy....)

I think ROTJ doesn't deserve to be uttered in the same breath as the rest. Ewoks.......... ugh........

I really like ROTJ, it always was my favorite when I was younger and the whole Jabba part and the ending space and lightsaber battle are just awesome

ESB is my choice for "best", but my "favorite" is ANH. Then there's those other 3 films which ruin the whole thing. :D

J/k :)

I think you are the first one I've seen that doesn't have TPM as the last pick.

good on you mate. I'm actually starting to like it more and more as I watch it more and more.

I really think it is a much more satisfying story compared to ROTJ. That one- such a let down, really! I mean... it really sets things up for AOTC (and the rest of the series), as I thought it would. ROTJ, to me, ended in such a fizzle... the land battle on Endor was practically 20 minutes of comic relief counterpoint to the space battle. DID... NOT... LIKE... THAT... AT... ALL!!!

So yeah... TPM is NEVER going to be last on my list!

(as I said before) "period!"

also... AOTC slipped into second- but a VERY CLOSE second. There are days that it pops up above ESB... depending on my mood.

You're right, they do change in "likeness" as the mood changes! right now all I've been watching is ep 1 and ep 2...this dvd did a world of good for me in restoring my faith in the prequels. I used to not really like them much...in my mind they were seperate from the OT, but since watching both movies and both commentaries, I understand alot more why gl made them the way they are and I really like them ALOT more too! :)

:D Don't get me wrong, I loved ANH, I hate to rank any of them as last. It was almost a tie for me between TPM and ANH, but for some reason, TPM really appealed to me. Sure, there was plenty of lame stuff (Jake Lloyd, Natalie's acting, and occasionally Jar Jar), but I am a huge fan of lightsaber battles (And SOME CGI), and the battle between Vader and Obi in ANH just didn't cut it for me. (Pun intended. :D) I like the abundance of Jedi, and yes, I liked Darth Maul. Well, his fighting skills anyway, too bad he was just a mindless killing machine, unlike Dooku. The battle at the end of TPM blew me away, Ray Park is truly a very talented man. ANH's dialogue didn't quite appeal to me, and call me crazy but the trench scene was a bit too outer-spacish for my tastes. The overall environment (Everything after Tatooine) in ANH just felt awfully concealed, I like more color and open scenes. Just my opinion. :)
