What is up with the Wal Mart Exclusive Trash Compactors 2 packs? I seen them a few weeks ago but did not pick them up because I had no funds. Now I can not find them at any Wal-Mart around here. Same thing with the Holiday 2 packs with R2-D2 and C3-PO. Lucky I grabbed that the other night. But I really should have written a check and take the overdraft fee hit by my bank to get those Trash Compactor 2 packs. It would have been worth it if you see how much these things go for on Ebay. One finished at $80 which is ridicilous. I posted the link to another current one going on Ebay at $46 right now. Has anyone else have any problems finding these?

Check out this link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2476&item=3101263794&rd=1

You could have tossed them in layaway, and not had to worry about missing out on them, or getting hit with an overdraft fee. Don't pay thru the nose for these. They should be out in greater numbers in 2003, and you can always go thru Yestertoys. They have them for $21 each, if I recall correctly. :)

I would have put these in layaway but that department is not open at 2 AM in the morning. Oh well, I guess I will wait patiently. That is all I can do.

I actually passed on this set several times. Definitely not worth $80 to me, or $49, or $21. Maybe for $10 I'd get the pair.

Actually it is open at anytime. All you would have done is gone up to someone, preferably an overnight manager, and tell them that you would like to put something on Layaway. They would then have been able to help you with this . . even at 2am.

I was shocked todya when I walked in my Wal-mart and wah-la, there they were.
They had 4 of each scene, and 3 now.
These scenes are awesome!!! I think it's cool how you can take the two pieces of the Dianoga form each set and combine them to 'assemble the complete dianoga!'
I wasn't too thrilled with the price, but it's nice to finally have them.

I have seen these just once and picked them up then. I think that they were sixteen something each. I still think that is a bit much though.

That's pretty standard over here if not dirt cheap. Cheapest I've seen them on offer is 12.99 which works out at $19.50 so you want to try paying european prices for a while and learn about high prices. You guys got it good and don't even know it.

I stumbled across 1 set this weekend. Picked'em up and jury is still on on this set.

1. I like the concept, and from far away they don't look bad. Its a neat peice.

2. Up close, I'm disapointed the junk on the stormie uniforms is painted on when on a Tomart's cover the trash looks dimensional and is actually adheared to the uniforms...not painted on like they are on the chest of the actual figures.

So I'm still sitting on the fence. I expected better in my head, but I should have known better.

But yea they were something like 16 something after tax...at least they were in MN.

Just wish WM here would get another stock of them. I am begining to dislike our stores that carry Star Wars toys. Went into a KBtoys this morning, the response I got was, "sorry, you need to go to any of the other KBtoys, we dont carry ANY Star Wars toys". Next closest one is another 25 miles in the wrong direction. Walmarts, Kmarts and Targets, still only have the peg warmers.

Yeah, I knew a KB that didn't carry ANY Star Wars toys, it's out of business now.

As for the Trash Compactor Sets, I bought mine last night and they could be better IMHO.

I too have been to a KB that had no Star Wars toys. It was in a shopping center in NY.

I got mine tonight and while they are cool I think they lack playability. I let my 8 year old take a look at them and he hated the Chewy because he wouldnt move (head and torso wouldnt move) I like the set but you cant play with them. I quess they are cool to look at. Dont get me wrong its a very cool idea but I'm sick of the figures with the crazy poses.

OHH but the chewy does have a very cool satchel (but is not removeable) and he seems like he is to scale with the other figs ...well more then most of the other Chewys have been.

I was really looking forward to getting these after all the initial hype, and neat-o first look pics. Sad to hear that they're not all that great. Hopefully my US hook up can help me out with these sets in the short term so I can see for myself. Getting a Dianoga will be a dream come true, we had the old green one when we were kids, but it's been gone for years.

Jargo

Question for those who bought the sets already and have opened them, does the Dianoga stick together or do you just place the pieces together and that's that? Like does it stay stuck together or what? See, i'm building a diorama to house all the cantina and jabba's palace figures and i thought that I'd make a big aquarium a feature with the fishies from the naboo sea creatures bags and the fish from the swimmy jar jar and the Dianoga as some sort of predator lurking around, maybe throw in the Gorgs from the Jabba glob too and the one from Sebuba boonta eve challenge. Just a big fish tank thing with nasty creatures in that would suit jabba's nasty entertainment style. So that's why i'm asking. I'll still buy the sets anyway but if someone has the thing opened....... thanks.

sith_killer_99
01-11-2003, 10:14 AM
Oh yes, the 2 pieces do stick together, they're kinda notched, so that they "snap" together. The Dianoga is the one saving grace of this set, he also has a bendy tail that can be re-shaped so you can have it going around Luke or not, lay it out flat if you want to.

Leia is my favorite character in the set. IMO, it's the best Leia we have seen in this outfit, not including the hood-up comm-tech Leia. The head sculpt is actually half decient. Her head is bent in that "looking up" pose. However, you can turn her head to the front and the effect is not so bad. She is also to scale.

As for the rest, I was severly disappointed.

Yes, I love the dianoga...it is the "savior" of the sets... I picked my sets up about one month ago...first time I saw them I had to have them...got one set at one wal-mart and another at a different wal-mart.

Jargo

They're going to work out about equal in pounds stirling which back translates as roughly $24 which seems a bit steep to me. No matter i shall endeavour to get myself a set just for the dianoga and the Hand and Luke bodies. If the dirt is just painted on I'll soon get it off and use the bodies for custom stormtroopers. The weird poses will make them better for looking like they've just been blasted. be weird to have han and Luke shooting them too  I bought a set of the build your own stormtroopers a while back and I still haven't got around to making more than two. So I've got some loose commtech stormie heads i'll use with the TC bodies. Chewbacca I'm not so sure about. He doesn't appear to useable anywhere other than with this set. Leia you could at least swap her arms with a number of other Leias to get a half decent figure that isn't drying her underarms  when not holding the big pole. But apart from lukes face which i assume hasn't changed from the prototypes I quite like the figures looks for what they are.
Why bother to buy them if i'm taking them out of the display stand? Well i just have no use for a trash compactor set up and need extra stormtrooper bodies is all. And I'd rather buy these than the awful gimmicked basic figures we're being fed lately.

17 each, that sounds fair, but e-bay seller are getting more and more greedy. Before I thought these were going to be a hard find I saw a set sell for 41.00 and now these are selling for 55 to 65. Man I hope these end up flooding WM so the bottom drops right from under them. Not just so I can get a set, but so that seller get stuck with them.

jedibear
01-12-2003, 12:27 AM
I like 'em. They're an extension of the old cinema scenes. Yeah, the figures are scene-specific and have no real playability, but it's handsomely done and I look forward to more sets (hopefully) in the future...

I scored this set at my local collector show For $40; At $4 above retail, it saved me the hassle.

Are these Walmart exclusives? I did not think they were?

I dunno about out of package, but these are very spiffy looking boxed.

Wish i could remember which site had the story. Might have been a passing comment on any one of the news sites who regularly chat with Hasbro reps. galactic hunter or rebelscum, The private universe who knows who it was i just remember reading something that said they would end up being more widely available. Maybe they meant globally available versus US store exclusive. And by that i mean that a number of the sets would be made available to specialist retailers via the official Hasbro global suppliers. Perhaps I just remembered wrong then. I'll try to get something more solid to post as a back up. Clarify. :)

Well, I found these last night and bought 'em. Chewie is a true disappointment and doesn't even have the right "haircut", but the other figures are ok. The price seems pretty high to me considering the weak paint jobs and lower-quality materials used for the figures, if this set had plastic removable walls instead of cardboard, then the $17 cost for each would have been more bearable.

These are fairly cool overall, but good luck getting them back into the packaging once you've opened 'em. :D

Hey JT, why not by some large pieces of plastic at a hobby store. Scan the cardboard inserts into a computer and print them out on sticker paper. Then you can attach and stick them onto the sets. Heck, even foamcore would probably work really well. After all, thats what the scene builders like Nuib Nuib use. :)

After looking at the photos over and over again, these two sets have truly grown on me. I can't wait to get them. When you live in Canada like me, you don't see new figures come out frequently. So I'm sure I won't find it in any Walmarts for a long time, and will have to resort to a specialty store soon, for maybe $20 US each.

I think Chewie sculpt isn't that bad, even though he can't really move. His bandolier even looks like it's removable.

I don't mind Leia, as her face doesn't scare me like most of the previous Leias. "Wet outfit Leia" was actually on my "for fun" want list a few years ago, and now it's coming for real. :p

Han's head is very different from the others, which is a good thing, and his stance actually looks mean and cool.

Luke looks silly... but hey, it's Luke, he was silly in ANH... :D
And I like the fact that Luke and Han gets a new stormtrooper outfit, still much better than the POTF ones.

I actually like these sets a lot, and I envy you all that live in the States, you can get it so easily. So please, GET THEM! :)

I have the sets, and have not opened them, but gotta say they are very movie accurate; when I first saw these online, I thought the detail of Luke and Han looked great (and still think so), but I was mad that there were no thermal detonators on the back of the figs, as most Stortroopers do. However, not long afterward someone pointed out Luke does not have one, which is true enough upon review of the film, and neither does Han in that actual scene!! He has it right up to the point where he lands in the compactor, but from that scene on, he has 'lost' it.

So much for Hasbro not paying attention to the details....

After my initial concerns online, I almost feel like I owe them an apology.

I've had the opportunity to pick these sets up multiple times and have passed each time. I can't justify the price tag on them right now. For some reason, I have a feeling they will show up in mass quantities on clearance in about 3 months (just like those Silver Anniversery 2 packs last year). I can wait and save my money.

Hey, I'm not trying to be a wise guy here, but the 25th Anniversery packs sat on the shelves and did not move, thats why they are clearing them out. The Trash sets are bought up as soon as they are put on the shelf, so the difference is Black and white. Another thing is, 17 isn't that bad, 5 bucks a figure and 7 for a base, part of the monster, a nice box and tax. I just hope you wont be on e-bay 6 months from now crying that you can't get a set for under 40 bucks.

Gee JJB, why don't you finance that whole operation for me? After all, I've already spent my $17 a piece for these 2 sets, plus taken plenty of time out of my schedule just to get them; and gourd knows how much I love stickers on plastic. My point was the money and time already spent just tracking these down for myself (and as it turns out, Turbowars - congrats! ;)) would have been more bearable if it had plastic walls.

Turbo, I think Chewie's bandolier is a separate piece, it's just glued to him!!! What were they thinking?!?

Turbowars

What were they thinking? That just it, they weren't thinking! :stupid: Hasbro has been having way to many brain farts. Since good old Lucas owns some of Hasbro, do you think that he would approve to all this BS that Hasbro is pulling. I thought he cared about his fans?????

Beast
01-19-2003, 09:00 PM
It's glued to him, because they wanted the bag hanging seperatly from his body. So it had to be a seperatly molded and they sculpted the groove indention in his body, so that it could be attached after. Sure, a removable bandolier is great, and I support it. But on an action figure, not a diorama figure. ;)

Why complain on a figure that was made for a diorama set? I can understand if it was a basic Chewie with loads of articulation. But it's a figure that was made, specifically for that scene. Hence the lack of waist and leg articulation. Wait for a figure that actually is an action figure. A removable bandolier is usless, on a figure that can't even really hold a weapon. :)

I'm trying to figure out the best way to display this set. When you put the pieces together with the backdrops, you're left with a fairly narrow angle of view to see what's going on in addition to that ugly brown cardboard backing on either side.

Ultimately, the best thing might be to integrate it into the vintage Death Star somehow, but for now, I'm thinking of removing the backdrop. Any other ideas?
