View Full Version : I got the Geonosian and Anakin (removeable hand)

11-24-2002, 03:33 AM
No they are not out. I got these early from a friend who buys them overseas, probably direct from the factory.

The Geonosian is awesome! There are some flaws. The wrists do not pivot, but the elbows bend (barely - and not enough). The knees are jointed and more flexible, but not that it does any good - he stands best in one pose. The head turns of course, and there is some attempt at articulation in the ankles. But the wings are the nicest thing - but other than that, this'll remind you of either the 3 3/4" Geonosian, or Watto's 12". The Geonosian does have one article of removeable 'clothing' - err more like plastic: his ornamented pelvic guard. But he's nicely detailed and it does impress me and makes me hope we'll see what they can do with a 12" Poggle the Lesser if they one day decide to make one!

You'll require a doll stand to keep the Geonosian on his feet though!

Anakin takes getting used to. I first saw this one and cringed. I never gave my buddy the money for him. He told me to just "borrow" the figure and see what I decide sometime later. Then I can give him some cash, or return the 12".

His shirt sleave does not come unattached with velcro like Ponda Baba's jacket. That means, if he gets his arm sliced off, miraculously, nothing happens to his clothing

The feature makes his arm fall off much more easily, while just trying to pose him, and then you have to stuff it back up the sleave - but this is not too troublesome for the person who changes a loose display occasionally. However, for a kid - uh, well they're not going to be too happy.

The droid hand seems undersized, but it might just be that it's skeletal, and if we didn't have flesh on our fingers, or on one hand, that hand would be smaller than our other hand too. But Anakin cannot hold anything in his droid hand.

Then again, any figure can hold anything you want with those clear rubberbands Hasbro now ships with just about everything.
THE GEONOSIAN REQUIRES A CLEAR RUBBERBAND OR HE CANNOT HOLD HIS SPEAR! (I forgot to add that it's not easy to make him double-handle the spear, and poses with two hands are limited due to lack of wrist articulation in the Geonosian).

With Anakin, articulation is standard for a 12", and I posed him just like the Unleashed Anakin (my favorite Unleashed).

I've finally gotten used to the face, but his head is added on, cutting off just under the chin, on the neck, instead of having a full neck plug into the body like most 12". This gives Anakin a double-chin look (well not really, but I'm not sure how to describe him). And he also makes me wonder if I have a prototype, and the finished version will have this flaw corrected???

Meanwhile, after getting used to his face, he does look more like Hayden (attacking Sandpeople maybe) than the previous Anakin. I may just keep this figure. But he's far from my favorite.

The clothes are the same as the last one. Two lightsabers are included. One is his correct AOTC saber, but not the blue one he borrowed to use against Dooku (which was not Obi-Wan's real saber either). The green one is correct - his borrowed saber from the Arena.

One final thing: the sleeve on the artificial hand is curiously molded plastic. Plugging it in gives you two sleeves of the same inner shirt???? The droid hand does not turn at the wrist in any way.

Overall, the Geonosian is better than Anakin, and I still like the original AOTC Anakin 12" better, but this is a nice wave. My friend did not bring Padme (of which his extra is going to his young niece to play with on Christmas).

I was looking forward to at least seeing her :(

So my judgement on that figure might have to wait until we all are getting her in retail stores. Upon that occasion, I'll be down for one more Geonosian!:)

i'm fairly sure that the new anakin uses the same body as the european luke with saber swinging action. if you hold anakin's torso and swivel his legs left and right, does his head move in the same direction?

Reading the post helps;)

I don't know. I never tried. I don't think so. Now that I got him to look like my Unleashed Anakin, I don't want to move him out of that pose and just sit him in fighting my 12" Dooku, and stare at them, not adjusting them at all if I pick them up.

To recreate the Unleashed, use a reverse-saber grip on Anakin's left hand (green saber). Just copy the Unleashed, you'll get it.

Why I decided to do that? I don't know. I suppose it stopped me from buying a second Anakin Unleashed so I could have one in more than 1 room!

I probably will now have to buy a 3rd Dooku.....

On the outset, I bought 3 Obi-Wans, and 3 Anakins (12 inchers).

When Dooku came out, I bought 2 of him.

Here's what I was thinking:

Obi-Wan fighting Zam Wessel

Obi-Wan side by side fighting WITH Anakin

extra Obi-Wan in case I get lucky and they make the Yellow Speeder for the 12" (it's possible) or some other 12" figure that HAS to be posed with Obi-Wan comes out, such as Taun We and Lama Su. I already saved an extra Jango Fett to pose OUT of the armor, hopefully with a six-inch young Boba at least. They did a great sculpt of Temura Morrison, so...

Meanwhile, the Anakin's were for:

1) being with Obi-Wan, Apprentice with Master style.
2) being with Padme, if they make at least one of her rich dresses
3) an extra in case they cough up a Yellow Speeder for the 12"!

So I figured having at least 1 more Anakin to fight Geonosians with 12" Padme (Droid Factory) would work out cool. You can't use this figure for the wedding, in spite of his droid hand. The face would make him look like she's something ill to kiss! LOL.

But with the two sabers, I decided this Anakin would look cooler fighting Dooku, and I will have a regular one with Padme versus 2 Geonosians.

- and then I still have an extra Anakin for a Padme Portrait edition or a Yellow Speeder.

Oh, the 2 Dooku's were 1) to put with Poggle the Lesser, an E2 Nute, or Sidious, whatever we get.... OR Fighting Yoda (most likely).

#2 was to save for Episode 3 twelve-inchers, as I don't think Dooku will change his attire too much.

So an extra will be easy enough to pick up right now, if I still want a Dooku fighting Anakin as well.

I almost bought this wave when Amoktime had them with my "toy" money, but I waited to long & now they are sold out. Bummer.

12-11-2002, 04:09 PM
I've put off buying the 12" figures for various reasons (monetarily ones, mostly). IYHO, Tycho, which Anakin is the best for my bucks -- the original one released in May or the new one coming out?

12-11-2002, 04:43 PM
I like the first one much better! The face sculpt, first and foremos, but next I like the seams and details on his black leather overlays he's wearing, plus the real hair effort on the first figure. Just loan him another 12" figure's green lightsaber if you want him to have 2 sabers...

Plus some 12" Jedi Masters from the Fan Club exclusives will undoubtedly have green sabers, like when SeaSee Tiin or Eeth Koth come out.

If you're posing them, Luke, or Qui-Gon without their saber, (or at least the blade turned on) lend it to Anakin.

The droid hand is not worth it - plus who'd pose Anakin with a 12" wedding Padme while he's making that expression.

It looks like "You mean I HAVE to kiss her, too? But she's a girl! I'll get cooties! Yuck!" - except I don't think Anakin ever went through that stage (or he went through it before he was 9! :D )

12-11-2002, 06:22 PM
i agree with tycho. if i was only going to get one anakin, i'd get the first release. if hasbro had just made the new anakin with the same head as the original, but smaller, it would of been great.

as for the clothes, maybe tycho's anakin is different, but both the 1st and 2nd releases i have, have the exact same clothing.

here is a photo of the two heads for compairson. keep in mind, i've altered the newer anakin neck post.:)

12-11-2002, 11:18 PM
Wow! That expression.lol!

Personally I don't like either face sculpt, but if I had to pick my least fav. it would be the new glue sniffin look Anakin. I do want that Genosian though.

Thanks for the input, guys. I will get the first one.

Got a case of these from Entertainment Earth today. Great price at $99 for the set. Yes, knew the Amidala was going to be deformed, The Geonosian Warrior- allot better than expected, but the Anakin.....

Whoops! Some how it posted the message before I was finished!

Just when i thought they couldn't make an Uglier figure than Luke in Ceremonial outfit(face it, that Luke is pretty fugly)!! His head's too small for the body, and it doesn't fit on the stump worth a squat.

What a let down.

-Paul <-- deeply bummed

I thought the new trio of figures were pretty good. Sure not the best, but plenty better than most of the POTF2 figures.

Anakin slashing takes a little getting used to, but it look friggin killer when posed similar to the unleashed Anakin.

Padme IMO doesn't have the bobblehead goin' on. I think this is a well done figure with the exception that you can't do much for posing, and her chest seemed too small. Still very nice looking on my shelf.

The Geonosian (my least favorite of the bunch) is limited for posing as well. Getting it to double hand the spear is a little difficult, but standing there with wings out looks cool.

I'd proly give this wave an A-, and very much worth the money spent.:D

Something about the Anakin Tatooine figure has been bothering me for a while. I was Watching "The Dead Zone" on USA the other day and it finally hit me ... Anakin looks exactly like Anthony Michael Hall.

I feel better now having gotten this off my chest.

02-28-2003, 08:42 AM
:D Too Funny!

02-28-2003, 04:14 PM
LOL!! :D That was too funny!

I still think it looks like Boston Public's Michael Rapaport. :D

I finally found the new 12 inch wave at Toys R US. Padme looked pretty bad so I passed on getting her. The Geo Warrior was cool but I limit my collecting to mostly Jedi.
I had seen the comments about this new Anakin looking worse than "primal Scream" Mace windu but I had to see for myself.
I was pleasantly suprised. This Anakin BLOWS the original release out of the water. No longer do we have "Boy band" Anakin's face to look at. I think Hasbro did a fairly good job here. However, Ani's face is no Count Dooku. It kind of looks like Haden but not really. They should have given him a robe and called this Tusken slaughter Anakin beacuse the hate on his face is very evident.
The removable arm is a nice trick. However, I wonder why Hasbro made the robotic arm the way they did. Look at second post for the pic and comments.
The only disappointing thing about Anakin's overall look is the button on his back. Why do we need a small staff on his back to move him? How many kids will use this useless feature?
Chek out the pic!

Here's the pic of the robotic arm.
Why on earth did Hasbro make most of the arm into a fake sleeve of hard plastic??? What is up with that? Not only does it look weird but it has no articulation (not counting the swivel where you attach it). And would it have been so hard to just make a complete robotic arm? Hasbro dropped the ball on this one. They turned a cool feature into a sham.
Check out the pics. Sorry about the poor quality. My camera is on the fritz!

Nice review Mace. :) I didn't mind the robotic arm much since I don't use it anyway. Why would I when I can have him holding both sabers? As for the face I don't think it looks anything like Hayden, but still don't mind it. This a really cool figure IMO.:D

SO it seems that I am in the minority in liking the NEW ANI's head better than the first. The first is just too boyish for me. I like the P-oed Ani.

I like both.:)

The only 12" AOTC new figure I bought was the Anakin w/ robotic hand. I just have a "thing" for figures with arms that come off or robotic arms. LOL... :)

THE FACE ON THIS ANAKIN SUCKS AND WE ALL KNOW IT. I might get one just to play with on the toilet. Dunno yet, I'll have to wait and see if the Kaopectate kicks in.

Does it have a "GI Joe" mount, or does it only mount on the news 12" SW bodies? FWIW, Dooku has the "GI Joe" style head, as do the older, pre Ep1 12" figures.

04-01-2003, 07:18 AM
this anakin head mounts like the 14 inch qui gon, biker scout or dagobah luke does.

Ah, then he has the "Action Man" head mount. How irritating. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at some of these meeting and try and figure out why they do the dumb things they do.

05-24-2003, 03:38 PM
I just saw these today for the 1st time and I could not believe it. Padme just looks like a cheap bootleg Barbi and Annie looks like he's about 50 years old. What is going on with the 12" line. Now with the new Gam Guard coming, you would never know that the same company made these.

05-24-2003, 04:03 PM
Yeah they could have been better, but still much better than the Lando Skiff Guard wave and pretty much everything before '98 IMO. I'm glad the GG looks that good b/c I almost stopped collecting the 12" line completely after the crap that was put out in the last wave.

05-24-2003, 05:30 PM
Lando is that bad Mini? I kind of wanted to get him. The thing is, Hasbro just can't get humans right, as it was talked about in another thread.

05-24-2003, 07:03 PM
IMO the whole wave was bad. Lando skiff looked nothing like Billy D., the helmet is way to big (it looks like Shredder from TMNT with it on, and the outfit is cheesy. I'm not hard to please, I mean I thought the Anakin, Padme, Geo wave was ok, but looking at the Lando wave made me wonder "why in the hell I collect this crap" for the first time. I dunno, maybe I'm happy with just the Unleashed line, maybe my standards have gone up since I started collecting Master Replicas also, who knows.:crazed: Have you seen Lando in person turbo?:)

05-24-2003, 07:18 PM
Nope. The 2 I meantioned above are the only new 12" I have seen. I agree with you on the Unleashed line, it rocks! I just got Slave Liea and Redux Vader a week ago. Very cool. Do you have all 9 Mini? I can't wait to score the other 6.

Have you checked Wal-Mart or Target? My local WM had some about a week ago.

Yeah, I have all 9. I got Padme of eBay (I think) first, and then scored the rest on a day trip to Seattle. Over a couple weeks after I got duplicates from online retailers to store away, but I have sinced sold them.

I think I may have posted this before, but after I started collecting the Unleashed line, the 12inchers just didn't hold my interest anymore. I still buy them, being a completist, but I find myself looking at them from time to time thinking I should just sell'em all. Considering the time I have invested in collecting the 12inchers I don't want to sell them, but I honestly do not see why I should be collecting these anymore. Just look at the 2 that this thread is about in both lines. The 12" Anakin with 2 sabers looks like crap compared to the Unleashed version, and same with Padme. The whole purpose for me collecting the 12" line was to have larger versions of the 3 3/4 figures to pose in action. Well, the Unleashed line takes care of that with no extra doll stand or tinkering with the figure to get the best pose possible. The Unleashed figure is complete. But I will give it another year, and see what happens.:)

Not to change the subject of this thread, but I'd be curious to know if anyone els fels the same way that I do since the introduction of the Unleashed line. Perhaps I'll start a thread.:)

05-25-2003, 05:49 PM
Yes and no. I have my 12" Anakin and Obi-Wan standing here between my 2 computer monitors, holding their lightsabers up and ready, like just before Anakin charged Dooku.

They look great actually! (no real movie reference is in sight unless I bring up the picture on my computer).

In my bedroom, posed so as to balance on my Blockade Runner I built for my 3 3/4" figures, I have the new 12" Anakin with both sabers, posed almost exactly like the Unleashed one, facing my Count Dooku. They look alright.

I even posed Padme, one arm around another 1st wave Anakin's waist, other arm firing at a Geonosian, while Anakin draws his blaster (in an exaggerated scene from the Droid Factory).

Ultimate Jango is fighting my Mace Windu.

I have 4 Clone Troopers (1 captain, 1 commander included) posed like an "A-Team, or Fantastic 4 / GI Joe" action cover poster, and that looks great too!

Ki-Adi Mundi is facing one of my Super Battle Droids...

I really DO love the Unleashed Line though, but will definitely continue collecting both.
