You're all - so, so young...

Why at 98 I feel the weight of so many years pile upon my weak and feeble shoulders........

...You're all - so maliable and pliable and fast..... fast as the lightning from my.......

We had a thread like this in the old forums and if I wasn't so lazy I would refer to it by linking but.......

I'm almost twice your age and yet I feel so young at heart. I feel exactly as I did when I was just 18. Nothing really changes except the increased desire of others to make you conform and behave like an 'adult'....! Most adults I know are more like six year olds than six year olds themselves!

Age matters not in the greater scheme of life my children. Tarry not with such thoughts and simply live! Be free my children....

Fly my beauties, FLY!!!!

Ah, Mr. Troxell. Take one size away from your shoes. :) True there seemed to be only one protocol droid, but its "designated" number (I shoulda said it that way) was 14. And there is only one Sith MASTER at a time, plus one Sith APPRENTICE. So...

14 X 2 - 1 = 27. And it'll change in a few months. But change to what?

Math time:

Take the number of Jedi alive at the open of ANH, mulitply that number by the number of outfits worn by Leia in ROTJ, multiply that by the number of hands Luke had during the original trilogy, add to that the number of ghosts seen at the very end of ROTJ and you get the number of times Jedi Clint has traveled around the sun on this wet rock.

Let's see, there were:
4 Jedi alive at the start of ANH (Obi-Wan, Yoda, Vader, and Palpatine)
--times--
4 Leia ROTJ outfits (Boushh, slave, general/Endor commando, and Ewok-dress)
--times--
3 hands Luke's had in the saga (2 regular hands, one mechanical replacement)
--plus--
3 ghosts at the end of ROTJ (Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin)for a total of: 51! Dude, do you remember when people were dancing the Charleston? :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRICKS!

Today is an EXCELLENT day to be 26...

JediCole
08-28-2001, 04:03 PM
JediCole is 35 (36 in October) and has these thoughts...

I was still months away from turning 12 when Star Wars (it wasn't A New Hope yet back then) was released. I did not see it on opening week. A friend of my older brother had seen it and said, "there is never a dull moment" (you have to remember what films were like back then). On the first leg of a hideously long family car trip to Pennsylvania we stopped in Memphis, TN for the night and went to the movies. The theatre was showing Star Wars and Warriors (two screens was the norm back then). You can guess which movie we got to see. It was all over for me after that.
I saw The Empire Strikes Back about a week after its release, I was still just a kid and had to rely on mom and dad to get to the theatre. Another throwback to an ancient time was that in the massive Dallas/Fort Worth area, The Empire Strikes Back was only showing in about four theatres, all on the other side of town! You kids don't know how good ya got it! We did get there early enough into the release to get free promotional folders with the cast and crew credits (which I still have to this day). I believe that was either a two or four screen theatre.
Finally, I did see Return of the Jedi on opening day, leading a large group of friends to stand in line at the six screen theatre. It was final exam time and I had managed exeptions from exams that day. Others in the group had to arrive later.
As a collector, I was 12 the Christmas of the Early Bird Set and never stopped until Kenner did. I was one of the lucky ones, unlike most, my mother recognized Star Wars for the phenomenon it was from day one. She encouraged us to keep everything and not blow it up, run over it with the lawnmower or throw it away. I listened to her well.

To those who fear the age of 30, remember, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to sufferinngggg.... So if you don't want to suffer in your 30's, I'd stop fearing them. Especially the 26 year old who posted that reply. Four years is NOT a long time kids.

To those who lament being over the age of 18, I personally think it is great to see so many of us here. Hopefully this is one post the folks at Hasbro who peruse these threads will read! The voice of the adult collector is finally being heard and should continue!

JediCole, speaking as another of those "thirty-somethings" and perhaps as a little reassurance to others...... being 30+ really rocks. My life has never been so good..... I guess waking up from the coma was a real plus, don't remember much between 18 and 28 but thats another story.

Back to SW though, I still remember my parents having to take me to all of the films - and strangley they still speak favourably about how quiet I was on all those occasions. Ah well... :)

Just another older collector. 30 yr. By the way guys, for those of you that are dreading 30, remember that the older you get, you generally have a greater amount of money to spend on toys. Being in the 30's is not bad at all. Just wait, you won't believe the amount of stuff you look back upon and ask yourself, "Why did I do that?" Amazing at the perspective you get.:)

I really don't have that much more money now that I did, say, six years ago. I live on a budget, and have for years. I switched jobs three years ago and my weekly budget was reduced by almost half. It was in preparation of getting my house, which I got two years ago.

I do splurge a couple of times a year on toys, like have the income tax refund comes in, or a bonus at work, or saving my loose change until it overflows the piggy bank!

If anything, I'm a wiser shopper. Yes, I wanted a royal starship but I didn't run out and get one when it was $100. I kept my eye on it until it was dirt cheap.

I go by this rule a lot on anything, toys, books, clothes, movies: I could get it now, but then go without something until the next paycheck, or I could wait until I have the money to get it. It depends on the object.

I'm quite partial to the year 1984. 'Twas the year I left school at 16 and took my first steps into adulthood by getting a job and learning about the joys of getting drunk illegally. :) Actually it was the best most creative period of my life where I discovered pretty much who I am and what I stand for. I have'nt changed much in outlook apart from the added wisdom and knowledge that age brings.

1992 was a good year. A long hot summer spent in London at theatre school. Man that summer was a sizzler! I learnt so much in '92, met the best people and had the best social life I could hope for. What happened to all the people... where are the party invites now... where did I leave myself...? :(

I think it's great that so many members here are so young. Although I wish they'd read a few threads before starting so many new duplicate ones. :p

I'm 19. Boy, I'm surprised there are so many teenagers here. I would of figured most of you were in their mid 20s to 30s, especially with the mature discussions we have here.

At other forums I visit you would usually get stupid, immature, and gross topics from teens like "What does urine taste like?" or "What would happen if I microwave certain things, like CDs, bug spray, forks, or my pet cat?". There are certainly a lot of messed up retards out there.

Starfig873
12-06-2001, 12:32 PM
Oh don't worry. We'll be getting to THOSE kind of discussions soon enough! GAH HAH HA!

Anyway, just for the record, I'm 18 now. Been so for three months. So pah! :D

Wolfwood319
12-06-2001, 01:35 PM
Well, considering I just found this thread...

I'm 23.

I'm not sure what urine tastes like.

If you microwave a cd it'll spark radically, smoke, and leave a real bad smell.

Don't microwave bug spray.

Microwaving a fork makes it smoke and bend really wierd angles.

Don't microwave your pet cat.

The derivative of 14 (or 15 for that matter) is 0. The derivative of 14x is 14, and according to my latest physics paper on the fundamentals of work (the physics term not the common term) x is always equal to 0.

Wow, poking around in the old threads is great. you talk to people here all the time in a faceless way and forget who's who and all the little personal stuff about them they reveal. Then you go fishing and find stuff like this thread all over again. Cool.

As of today I will be another year older in eight days. Feb 13th. This will mean I'm almost at the thirty something point where you start trying to forget how old you are and make out like you're a heckof a lot younger. I'm pretty lucky in that I don't look my age anyway. I guess my profile pic makes me look a bit rough but generally I can pass for 25 or so. being really short helps too. I still remember being knocked back in a bar on my 21st birthday because they thought I was only 16. it annoyed me because I'd been drinking in that same bar since I was 16 and they only decided to knock me back at 21? madness. :) I still get strange looks from bar staff like they don't entirely believe that I'm over 18. I like to surround myself with teenage punks who look about fourty ust so i look good. My god kids age fast these days. I'm still struggling to grow more than bumfluff on my chin and there's twelve year olds with full beards! What happened to the world is it all the crap Mcdonalds put in their burgers? Is it Coca Cola? Somethin' is making kids grow up into hulking great hairy monsters and it's pretty frightening actually.

Wolfwood319
02-04-2002, 08:11 PM
Happy Birthday Jargo.

I too know the horrors of not looking 21. I don't go to bars that much, but I've been almost kicked out of the Metro about a dozen times for not looking 21 at a "21 and over" concert. Even after they see my driver's license, they are questionable at best.

My birthday is March 19th, and I was looking forward to it this year because Bad Religion will be in town that night, but it turns out I have a night class that very same night. I'll probably end up missing class for the show, but that's life. The horrors of adulthood. Never move out of your parents' house, kiddies, its not all its cracked up to be.

I've always been cursed with looking older than I actually am. While on the football team in high school, many of the players actually thought I was in college.

Only now that I am only one year and three months away from 30 am I starting to actually look my age.

You're right, Wolfwood, most kids don't know just how good they have it. Right now, I have all of twelve days left in the Army and will stay at my parents' house for a while until I get settled. Nothing like free food and no rent.

I have one regret when it comes to collecting SW. I wish I would've kept buying figures when I was in high school, but back then, in the Dark Ages known as the 80s, action figures were still called 'dolls,' and playing with dolls was not cool.

My sister had her 25th birthday a couple days ago and already is trying to roll back her age and mine, since everybody we know knows she's only 18 months younger than me, so now I'm 24 again. :( What's really ridiculous is that she doesn't look or sound old enough to buy a pack of cigarettes!

If I shave off my beard, I look like I'm 19 or 20. That's not that bad. When I was on the plane to CA, the stewardess remarked I must've had my daughter when I was VERY young. She thought we were both teenagers. I had to burst her bubble and say I was 28. Egads?!? I'm 28!?!?! lord, no....:(

This thread is pretty funny- I also had figured that I was an old timer around here. I guess from the everyones pics I could say I look the oldest, but I'm only 28(29 on mar. 8). If you can't guess from the pic, I'm the one with the beard, and the other guy is Ronnie James Dio, a funny little singer. It's cool to see that quite a number of the fans who never even saw the OT in theatres have a really keen interest in it, I wasn't so sure how young the hardcore fan base was, but I guess this thread clears that up. It's great to know that we can have serious discussions with such diverse participation, it makes for a great balance and it is a lot of fun to see so much contrast. And trying to crack each other up is fun too- f@rt jokes or otherwise........Wooooooo!!

Only OT movie I saw in the theater was ROTJ, when I was 5 years old. I still remember that!! It was great!!
However I must give credit where it is due: My mother has informed me that in 1977 she went with my father to see Star Wars in the theater while she was pregnant with me.
I can now say that my love for Star Wars started while I was still in the womb.

Hey EMPEROR JARGO I relate to how you feel about looking young. By your pick I'd say you look about 25 even although you are 33. I'll be 25 next month but people think I look like I'm 16 or 17. The only advantage I have is that I can grow a really nice goatee if I want to, so then I look more my age. It is a curse sometimes, but I'm sure looking young will be an advantage later on in life. I love being 25. The year SW came out was the year I was born. It was actually the first movie I saw. Granted I was only 2 months old at the time, but hey it counts.

Well, I'm finally 34 today...... HUZZAH! thanks for the Happy birthdays JT and Wolfy. :D I haven't been in this section for a while and it was cool to read that.

Know when you're getting old in people's eyes? When they start buying grown up things for you. I got a coffe maker machine and a toasted sandwich maker for y birthday...... hang on, thought I said 34 not 74! Yeesh! am I that old? :dead: Still, getting toys later I hope. If i don't get toys on my birthday I'm gonna throw a big birthday strop and go sulk in my room and not come out.

Actually the electronic gifts are cool. I've always wanted to be able to make espresso and capuccino and wolf down burnt offerings from a toasted sandwich maker...... Yeah I'll just pile on the pounds and clog my arteries thanks very much. Just what i need as I get older and start to obsess over things like that. Yeah the thought was sincere but perhaps a little more thought about what gifts to give someone who's paranoid about getting fat would have been in order. Oh well, never mind. At least it wasn't jammies and fake leather slippers. :D

LOL! I can hear him saying that! :D

I am this age:
The age of Anakin in TPM + the number of Luke's T-__ Skyhopper + the number of Sith there are supposed to be at a time + the number of times Luke fires his blaster pistol in ESB + the number of planets seen destroyed by the Death Star in ANH.

You may put your pencils down now.

I think this topic already owns the record for longest thread we had ever had on this forum, not counting the Boukas, (not this particular thread but others in the past).

I've had another birthday since my original post so I guess I'll disclose again.

I am 22 but I don't feel a day over 21

Sigh... Off to take the trolley to Evilville... :p

But here's the balance sheet:
I am this age:
The age of Anakin in TPM + the number of Luke's T-__ Skyhopper + the number of Sith there are supposed to be at a time + the number of times Luke fires his blaster pistol in ESB + the number of planets seen destroyed by the Death Star in ANH.

94?
20?+16+2+0?+1

You were close, stillakid. But Anakin was 20 in AOTC, not TPM. So...

9 + 16 + 2 + 0 + 1 = 28. But that answer will change in a few months.

I'll have to retract my last post as this thread got merged with another and I can't remember who is the oldest now. I think it's r2dee2 at 55 followed by Jedi Clint at 51 if these are the correct ages. Geeze I wonder if at that age I'll be collecting Star Wars, Dam straight. Was it that really fine dirt the defies shovels and brushes and you have to hose it down before you can touch it? I hate that kind of dirt. Gets in your lungs.... :( brick dust is the worst kind of dust next to the kind of dust you get in a potters workshop. clay and toxic glazes.
