View Full Version : Sandcrawler . . . NOT! cancelled?

Okay, as many of you must know --- a while back Pete over at Private Universe gave me a massive heart attack when he posted that he had it from a "reliable" source that the Sandcrawler had in fact been cancelled.

Now, however, on his "new" and "reliable" list he has it listed again as 3 3/4 Sandcrawler with Droid and Jawa ---- scheduled to come out this May.

I thought this was worth posting because --- as far as I know, Pete's was the only site that had ever claimed it was cancelled. I don't know what this means exactly. Maybe he was given bad information a while back, or maybe a retailer just now rescued it. I'm going to email Pete and see what he says.

At any rate --- this is good news. Even though as always nothing is ever confirmed. At least there is . . . A New Hope for our homeless Jawas.

Well, his "New" list seems to be also older then the last one we have seen. Due to the fact the names on the figures, seem to be the older ones. Like Mace Windu: Total Control, etc. That doesn't prove anything or course, but it's certainly not the newest list we've seen. :)

But regardless, as you said it was the only site that ever listed it as cancelled. Not even Galactic Hunter, which was the site that actually had the prototype picture for the upcoming Sandcrawler confirmed it being cancelled. I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I'm almost sure it's coming this year. :)

This new list is most confusing with things listed twice under different headings and different names. Looks to be an internal listing thing or a Diamond listing...

I really wouldn't want to hazard a guess at the authenticity but I will say that if retailers are supposed to go on this then it's no wonder they list stuff for pre-order that never shows up. Thing is, without definite word from Wal*Mart or hasbro on the status of the sandcrawler we won't ever know what's going on with it. Surely someone could drag the info out of Big H? Also what's with the clonetrooper three pack not four pack? This is so confounding really, next thing you know someone will be reporting that there's going to be a three pack and a four pack of clonetroopers. Then people will be mighty upset when one of them or both don't show.

Someone's yanking our respective chains.:frus:

Hopefully the Sandcrawler will still be a WM exclusive. Those have never been hard for most people to find, I think.

It seems everything worth having is exclusive, and I ALWAYS end up having to buy on the secondary market.

I never get WalMart exclusives. It must be a regional thing. Ever since they first got exclusives (Cantina Band I think) I have had to get them from the secondary market. Target has been relatively easy, and TRU & KB Toys are always well stocked with their respective exclusives. I always hear stories of people finding tons of exclusives at WalMart, but I never find anything at the WalMarts in Jersey.

On another note. . . I don't care where the Sandcrawler is sold just as long as it is made. DON'T CANCEL IT!!!

PETE HAD THIS TO SAY . . .

"Well the list comes from the same source as the Sandcrawler news... I am not sure if yes it is back, or the original news has been reversed... I actually didn't notice the Sandcrawler was on there. I will ask about this, and post what I find out.

I hope the Sandcrawler is still coming, as it is also a favourite of mine and my Jawas need some transport :)

Pete"

AGAIN, NOTHING IS CONFIRMED. BUT WE CAN STILL HOPE . . . MAYBE THE GUYS AT HASBRO CHANGED THEIR MIND. . .

What do you wanna bet, if it is released, the droid that is packed in will be a remolded R5D4 I have been dying for. I really want him, but am not the least interested in the Sandcrawler. I don't wanna buy another ship, just for the droid. That was what I did with the Queen's starship, but luckily I sold the ship for like $10 less than I paid for it.

I guess it is a good thing I have customized several R5s, and imho, they look pretty good.

Droidlover --- so far in all the pics it has been the Silver Death Star Droid. So, I don't think you have anything to worry about.:D

Jargo

The hardcopy pics of the B-wing used the arvel Crynyd figyure from the rebel pilots cinema scene to illustrate that a pilot would be included. Unfortunately having a silver RA-7 in the pics doesn't mean we'll get him. Ultimately. We might get a re-issue of the awful POTF2 R5 but with a glued together body and without the leg cannons and the stabiliser trainer bracket between his feet. Think about that one. It could be the same horrible R5 retooled but still as inaccurate. Perish the thought!
The third star tours wave is apparently suspended so no R5 there either.
Hasbro really should card one up and bung it out. It's such an easy thing for them to do. requires little work and tooling. It's a conical head with three 'eyes' and an antenna. repaint an R2 body and Bob's your lobster, just slap it in a blister and throw it out in a case mix of random stuff and refreshes or something. Who cares, just get it out. Unless, unless this new CZ-3 droid factory thing will also contain R5. Now that's an entertaining thought. What fun is a droid factory without droids eh? so he may yet rise from the grave.......... hmmmmmmm :stupid:

Sandcrawler - someone know where hasbro HQ is and live nearby? just go give Randy a quick kick in the goolies will you? Beat the information out of him if you have to. Just a yes or no answer will suffice to this question: 'Is the sandcrawler being released this year?' And then, 'Stocked by whom?' and finally 'When is it being released?' Just three simple questions which don't require a thesis to answer. If anyone can Say it has to be randy because according to himself, he's the Hasbro man in the know, he da man dudes... Anyone up to the challenge of making randy spill his guts with these answers?

I would love to Jrago but I don't live near the factory. I would also give a kick for everyone here:D

And I hope the sandcrawler is coming out because I always wanted one.

And looking at the list how does Jango Fett have a clone wars figure?

Jargo
02-04-2003, 09:37 PM
I love the listing for Clonetrooper (clone wars) :D talk about stating the bleeding obvious!!! :p

*shrugs shoulders* With a lot of things listed twice like the tie bomber and we've got bounty hunters refresh 1 but then a bounty hunters 4-pack which if I'm not mistaken is also a refresh and very probably the same thing. There's too many mistakes on this list to take it seriously beyond what we already know. People will now read this and get really excited and then be really disappointed later in the year.

If hasbro aren't going to play ball at things like TOYFAIR then they could at least release a press release with a schedule so people can start to get an idea of when they need to have cash for this stuff and save up for it if they need to. Are hasbro just going to spring stuff on us and hope we find out about it while the stores get riled because the stuff isn't shifting and then just stop ordering from hasbro? Their marketing is a mess really. There's no concerted effort to keep people in the loop beyond what's coming in the next month or so. If i was in charge I would at least make the public aware of what's coming for the next quarter as one whole lot not little dribs and drabs like we get on the website. Do they think we hang on their every epoch length move? Who seriously can be bothered to go to the hasbro website every week on the off chance they might have put up the next single figure or tidbit? C'mon hasbro get real and make with the serious grown up catalogue of wares. If they aren't going to do cardbacks with every figure like the vintage than do a good online catalogue. How misleading is it for kids to go to the hasbro website and find items listed together like Imperial dignitary and think "great, I'm after one of those" and then discover hasbro lumped all the vintage stuff in with the modern stuff and the dignitary is not after all available. This is a commercial venture they're running and they don't have a clue really. And employing clowns like Randy doesn't help matters. he may have a lot of paperwork that says he's good for the job but honestly he hasn't got the smarts. Marketing needs a major overhaul. Image wise they still exist in the nineteen eighties.
Now maybe people will jump on me at this point and say I'm being negative again  which i'm not. I'm making an observation and saying what I think. I just want them to open their eyes to the world and see what some people see. That they're patronising to kids, insulting their intelligence, selling kids short, aggravating their consumers, that they have to wise up to survive. It isn't the toys that need the gimmicks it's the website. If they want to attract kids they need games on there, some sort of interactivity, a more personal approach, faces to names and some sort of insider virtual factory tour that lets people see what really goes into making these toys. Involvement.
Visiting the hasbro website right now is a shallow and empty experience. A competition with just one winner isn't really that attractive to the hundreds of potential longtime consumers really. It's supposed to be about the kids and it looks far from that. hasbro toys with the notion and nothing more. Anyone seen any advertisements in the press recently or any tv adverts? They can't simply carry on as they always have because that doesn't work. Nor does it work to suddenly radically change the product style and content. Every time hasbro does that there's a backlash. They just seem out of synch. out of tune and out of step. God they must be able to find someone able to empathise properly with the product and also the consumers?

Sorry, running away with myself there. Hasbro has to give up this information about the sandcrawler. It's scheduled for next month on that list and if it is going to be released shouldn't they make consumers aware of it? Isn't that logical and good business sense? Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm looking at this all wrong and it's really about keeping your consumers in the dark and just making stuff regardless of whether or not it sells. It's mystifying to me how that company manages to work.

No, EJ you are right. Hasbro is just going through the motions. I can care less about this Crawler. The scale really bothers me.

02-05-2003, 04:22 AM
Scale schmale! A "scale" Sandcrawler would be the size of my car (VW Beetle) I just want this toy released.

And I agree, Jargo. Hasbro is wayyyyyy too mysterious lately.

This toy is due out in May (not March, Jargo, but May) ---- if the list is to be believed. Why not say Yay of Nay? Why keep everybody in the dark?

Jargo
02-05-2003, 08:11 AM
Sorry, it was late, I was tired, May not March. :p I was going to come back and trim that down but now I think I'll let it stand...

Least I got my two shuttles to keep me occupied for a while. I guess if it took so long to get that baby out it could be a similar case of postponement. Scheduled for May but actually ending up coming out in June July time. There seems to be a lot of this clone wars stuff out in the summer so they'll have to put something out to keep OT fans happy. Maybe it'll be delayed slightly, yeah i'll hold that thought for a time just to shut me up. :D

I'll believe it when I see it. *crossing fingers*
I hope Hasbro does make it. I think it has been needed for a very long time.
