As if "Hot Wheels: The Movie" wasn't bad enough, according to today's Hollywood Reporter, Infogrames' video game "Driver" may be speeding on to the big screen. The trade reports that Impact Pictures has acquired the film and TV rights to the popular action-racing title.

Driver will be produced by Jeremy Bolt and Paul Anderson and Constantin Films' Robert Kulzer. Anderson, who wrote and directed the Resident Evil movie, may also get behind the wheel of Driver. James Demonaco (The Negotiator) is currently brushing up the screenplay with Todd Jason Harthan and James Roday.

The film may be fast-tracked for a summer '04 release, to coincide with the release of Driver 3, the third game in the franchise due out for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and PC.

Driver, which has drawn comparisons to the more controversial Grand Theft Auto series, puts players behind the wheel of a slew of autos, trucks and boats. The third game in the series will be set in Miami, Florida; Nice, France, and Istanbul, Turkey. There's no word yet on where the movie might shoot.

Well I don't mind the Driver games so will probably give the movie a quick look. I can't see it being any good, but there is more chance of it having a story line than any Hot Wheels movie .
