Hello everyone. I was lucky enough to get a dianoga from the saga line without having to buy both of the death star trash compactor sets. For those that passed on the sets, I believe the dianoga makes up for the price, scene, etc. I have included some detailed pics of the dianoga loose for everyone to see...this figure is awesome! You can move the easily-poseable tail (might have a wire in it) to wherever you want it to be...this figure has to be the longest 3 3/4" figure in the new line (since 1995), that is, with the tail fully extended outwards. Enjoy the pics! --Brian

And another picture...

And the final pic...you can see the dianoga's "mouth".

I got both sets, but I can't get myself to open them yet. They were pretty expensive for me, since I got it off ebay. But thanks for the pics, at least I get to see it here. :)

I might be odd, but I really think this thing is awesome. I think I am spoiling you guys but here is just one LAST pic of the underside...which is cool. Great detail on the suckers...

That's a nice looking dianoga. So that's what it looks like.

Ha! soon as I got these sets I ripped them open and tossed the feeble rebel figures aside and ripped the Dianoga out of it's prison and clicked the two pieces together so I could have the beast slither across the floor of Jabbas palace ready to throttle the big slug. I know technically the Dianoga ia an aquatic creature but then half the creatures in the palace are too so what difference does it make to have a wetlands creature on a sandy floor? Sily George eh? But yes the Dianoga is a mighty beasty and it's just a pity that only one of his tentacles is bendy, could have had him wrestle with a Gamorrean otherwise. I'm definately going to build a big clear perspex tank for the Dianoga and have him in my upcoming Tatooine casino, like those big shark filled tanks James Bonds adversaries have to intimidate, Jabba will have his Dianoga. As for the other figures from the sets, I really have no use for them but may leave them in the customising box for a rainy day. Never found Chewbaccas supposed tiny accessory in my set though. Ho-hum. :)

I thought the dionoga creature was pretty cool looking. Probably the best part of the sets.

I swear, I NEVER saw or found the small accessory for Chewbaca. I don't think it was in mine.

I bought two of each of the trash compactor sets. I was lucky enough to find them in a Wal-Mart. I opened on set, although I have yet to really look at the Dianoga. I was more into the Han and Luke in the Stormtrooper outfits. It is good to finally have the Dianoga though, as he almost killed Lukes Rebel butt!

What accessory for Chewie? Im hyper anal about making sure everything is out of the boxes before I trash them. I never noticed anything but the blasters and the pipe for Leia? His hands won't hold anything, so what could he have had?

Jargo

Apparently there was supposedly a tiny piece of black wire for chewie to hold that looked like a makeshift lockpick. Chewie was sculpted to hold something small and very thin. I was really careful as I ripped the boxes open to check under the clear plastic packaging and all over the box and the bases but nothing was in my set. It's apparently about a quarter inch long, black and thin as a pin. I'm not surprised people haven't found it if it even exists. Don't worry JJ. :)

Sounds like a hoax to me. If they'd included a 3.75 scale lice nit to go with Chewie, I would have found it. :D

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the dianoga is the first CREATURE we see whose habitat in on the Death Star.

I still fail to know why the imperials would let a dianoga run loose in the trash compactor complex. Was it to prevent intruders? No, because Grand Moff Tarkin was SO sure of himself that the Death Star was secure. Was it to make sure there were no "other" living things on the DS? No, they're in a space station. Why Why Why? :D

How'd that dianoga get there? LOL!! :stupid: :D I guess it can fly when it flaps it's tentacles!! A space dianoga!! :D

Maybe it's like Alligators in the sewer? Some Imperial, probably came back from vacation with a little baby Dianoga. But when it got bigger, he got tired of feeding and cleaning up after it. So he flushed it down the toilet. :crazed: :D

Try and wrap your tentacles around me, foul slimy beast!!!:crazed:

The Dianoga is cool, but I cannot justify buying the rest of that set just to get it. I'm so sad about that.

Eww! Does that mean dianogas feed off Trooper Poodoo? :p

I have a theory on this (but have done no research to back it up :D ). They probably release them in the trash so that they'll consume the rotting garbage (Im speculating here that they'd be capable of digesting an almost limitless amount of stuff - paper, food scrap, etc.) in order to minimize the amount of stuff coming out of the compactors.

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. :)

Well, according to the offical site, that's sort of how they are explaining the reasons behind why it was there. Just as a waste processor. :)

A disgusting parasite that has spread across the galaxy, dianogas have proliferated on many worlds. They originate on the planet Vodran, an ancient planet whose discovery by the Hutts predates even the Republic. Over the course of millennia, dianogas have propagated to distant worlds in their microscopic larval forms.

Though almost universally reviled, dianogas are not always hunted since they do provide a service, ridding waste of biological materials and leaving salvageable minerals and metals behind. Upon discovery, a dianoga is allowed to continue feeding until it becomes big enough to pose a threat. Since there is no shortage of garbage in the galaxy, giant dianogas are a frighteningly common threat in the depths of large metropolitan areas.

Dianogas are not instinctively aggressive, since they are predominantly scavengers. They possess a fascinating evolutionary adaptation -- dianogas divert small portions of digested meals into a series of ducts near the surface of the skin. This provides dianogas with remarkable color-changing camouflage abilities. Starving dianogas -- the most dangerous since they are the ones most likely to lash out -- are nearly transparent.

Some interesting facts about the dianogas to go with an interesting figure!! That is cool that the dianogas have changing camouflage. Was that a dianoga I saw on Endor blending in with the forest? Or was one on Hoth blending in with the snow? haha!!! ;)

The Dianoga is somewthing i was waiting for them to redo for a long time. The vintage one is pretty pathetic. I love this new set, and the sets that are going to be coming out. This is what collecting Star Wars is all about.

I love how there is always some hack "Expanded Universe" writer there to write a lame back story for EVERYTHING in the films. Hell, I think every creature in the cantina and Jabba's palace has their own three book deal these days. I long for the days when these guys were simply referred to as "Hammerhead" and "Snaggletooth."

EU is pathetic.

I will have to agree that I do not "go" for much of the EU stuff. Some of it may be a little "cool", but I would rather it not have come about in the first place.

jjreason

I think EU's fine. I don't follow it at all (odd video game or book here and there) and I don't think it's canon by any stretch, but it's a good little money maker for GL so he can make sure epIII is a armed and operational FX masterpiece. If other people want to spend their book time with Star Wars as opposed to Elmore Leonard, who am I to tell them it's wrong? Want to read Clone Wars comics intstead of Spidey? Whatever blows your hair back. It's obviously a viable entity, as there has been no scaling back on EU projects since the Thrawn Trilogy was released.

Good point there JJ. I would rather read sw comics than spiderman or superman.
