What are your favorite song lyrics?

One of my all time favorite song lyrics is by U2:

"I can't believe the news today,
I can't close my eyes and make it go away.
How long, how long must we sing this song?
How long? Tonight we can be as one.

Broken bottles under children's feet,
Bodies strewn across a dead end street,
But I won't heed the battle call,
It puts my back up, puts my back up
against the wall.

Sunday, bloody Sunday.
Sunday, bloody Sunday.

And the battle's just begun,
There's many lost, but tell me who has won?
The trenches dug within our hearts,
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn
apart.

Sunday, bloody Sunday.
Sunday, bloody Sunday.

How long, how long must we sing this song?
How long, Tonight we can be as one.
Tonight, tonight.

Sunday, bloody Sunday.
Sunday, bloody Sunday.

Wipe the tears from your eyes,
Wipe your tears away,
Wipe your blood shot eyes.

Sunday, bloody Sunday.
Sunday, bloody Sunday.

And it's true we are immune.
When fact is fiction and T.V. is reality,
And today the millions cry,
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die.
The real battle just begun.
To claim the victory Jesus won,
On a Sunday bloody Sunday,
Sunday bloody Sunday."

The Marines' Hymn

From the halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli,

We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea.

First to fight for right and freedom,
And to keep our honor clean,

We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marines.

Our flag's unfurl'd to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;

We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.

In the snow of far-off northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes,

You will find us always on the job -
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;

In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.

If the Army and the Navy
Ever gaze on Heaven's scenes,

They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

Well, Darth Jax, if you're going to post that, I have to follow it up with this:;)

The Air Force Song

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Minds of men fashioned a crate of thunder,
Sent it high into the blue;
Hands of men blasted the world asunder;
How they lived God only knew! (God only knew then!)
Souls of men dreaming of skies to conquer
Gave us wings, ever to soar!
With scouts before And bombers galore. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Bridge: "A Toast to the Host"

Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of his brother men who fly.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
A toast to the host of men we boast, the U.S. Air Force!

Zoom!

Off we go into the wild sky yonder,
Keep the wings level and true;
If you'd live to be a grey-haired wonder
Keep the nose out of the blue! (Out of the blue, boy!)
Flying men, guarding the nation's border,
We'll be there, followed by more!
In echelon we carry on. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Those are great songs Darth Jax and Rogue 2!

This one goes out to the host of this very NON-political thread:

War! Ungh! What is it good for?
Absolutely nuthin', say it agin!

Uh, no thanks, I won't repeat it.

I've always liked, "wake me up, before you go go" I just wanna run around, snapping, clapping and frollicking up and down stairs.

But hey, that's just me. ;)

proud swagger out of the schoolyard
waiting for the world's applause
rebel without a conscience
martyr without a cause

static on your frequency
electrical storm in your veins
raging at unreachable glory
straining at invisible chains

and now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
staring down into a heartless sea
can't face life on a razor's edge
nothing's what you thought it would be

All of us get lost in the darkness
dreamers learn to steer by the stars
all of us do time in the gutter
dreamers turn to look at the cars
turn around and turn around and turn around
turn around and walk walk the razor's edge
Don't turn your back
and slam the door on me

it's not as if this barricade
blocks the only road
it's not as if you're all alone
in wanting to explode

someone set a bad example
made surrender seem all right
the act of a noble warrior
who lost the will to fight

and now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
staring down into a heartless sea
done with life on a razor's edge
nothing's what you thought it would be

no hero in your tragedy
no daring in your escape
no salutes in your surrender
nothing noble in your fate
Christ, what have you done?

from the Rush album PRESTO the song "THE PASS"

This song kept me from doing stupid things to myself when I was younger and thought that life had lost all meaning. I have to listen to it from time to time to keep myself walking that razors edge.

For a price I'd do about anything
except pull the trigger.
for that I'd need a pretty good cause
Then I head of Doctor X
the man with the cure
just watch the television
yeah you'll see there's something going on

Got no love for politicians
or that crazy scene in D.C.
It's just a power-mad town
But the time is ripe for changes
There's a growing feeling
that taking a chance on a new kind of vision is due

I used to trust the media
to tell me the truth
tell us the truth!
but now I've seen the payoffs everywhere I look
who can you trust, when everyone's a crook? !
Revolution Calling!
Revolution Calling!
Revolution Calling YOU!
Revelution Calling!
REVOLUTION CALLING!
gotta push, gotta push it on through!

I'm tired of all this bullsh_t
they keep selling me on TV
about the Communist Plan
and all the shady preachers
begging for my cash
swiss bank accounts while giving
their secretaries the slam
They're all in Penthouse now,
or Playboy magazine,
with million-dollar stories to tell.
I guess Warhol wasn't wrong
fame 15 minutes long
everybody's using everybody, making the sale

I used to think that only America's way - way was right
but now the holy dollar rules everybody's lives
gotta make a million and it doesn't matter who dies!
Revolution Calling!
Revolution Calling!
Revolution Calling YOU!
Revelution Calling!
REVOLUTION CALLING!
gotta push, gotta push it on through!

I used to trust the media
to tell me the truth
tell us the truth!
but now I've seen the payoffs everywhere I look
who can you trust, when everyone's a crook? !
Revolution Calling!
Revolution Calling!
Revolution Calling YOU!
Revelution Calling!
REVOLUTION CALLING!

SPEAK THE WORD!

Tycho
03-30-2003, 03:31 AM
They've given me a mission
I don't really know the game yet
but I'm bent on submission
religion is to blame

I'm the new Messiah
Death Angel with a gun
dangerous in my silence
deadly to my cause!

Speak to me
the pain you feel
speak the Word:
Revolution!
the word is all of us

I've given my life to become what I am
to preach the new beginning
to make you understand
to reach some point of order
Utopia in mind
You've got to learn to sacrafice
to leave what's now behind

Speak to me
the pain you feel
Speak to me
the Pain you feel
Speak the Word
Revolution!
The word is all of us
Speak the Word
Revolution!
the Word is all of us!

Seven years of power
the corporations claw
the rich control the government
the media, the law
To make some sort of difference
everyone must know
eradicate the fascists!
Revolution will grow!

Are you ready?
Speak!

The system we learn says we're equal under law
but the streets are reality: the weak and poor will fall
Let's tip the power balance and tear down their crown
educate the masses, we'll burn the White House down!

Speak to me
the pain you feel
Speak to me
the Pain you feel
Speak the Word
Revolution!
The word is all of us
Speak the Word
Revolution!
the Word is all of us!

nothing beats the Kinks... the good ol Kinks..

I REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE DOWN
AND YOU NEEDED A HELPING HAND
I CAME TO FEED YOU
BUT NOW THAT I NEED YOU
YOU WON'T GIVE ME A SECOND GLANCE
NOW I'M CALLING ALL CITIZENS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING
I BAILED YOU OUT WHEN YOU WERE DOWN ON YOUR KNEES
SO WILL YOU CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

HELP ME NOW I'M CALLING YOU
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
I'M IN YOUR HANDS, IT'S UP TO YOU
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

I REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE DOWN
YOU WOULD ALWAYS COME RUNNING TO ME
I NEVER DENIED YOU AND I WOULD GUIDE YOU
THROUGH ALL OF YOUR DIFFICULTIES
NOW I'M CALLING ALL CITIZENS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING
I BAILED YOU OUT WHEN YOU WERE DOWN ON YOUR KNEES
SO WILL YOU CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

HELP ME NOW I'M CALLING YOU
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
I'M IN YOUR HANDS, IT'S UP TO YOU
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

WHEN YOU WERE BROKE YOU WOULD COME TO ME
AND I ALWAYS PULL YOU ROUND
NOW I CALL YOUR OFFICE ON THE TELEPHONE
AND YOUR SECRETARY TELLS ME THAT SHE'S SORRY
BUT YOU'VE GONE OUT TO TOWN

THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING
THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING

HELP ME NOW I'M CALLING YOU
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
I'M IN YOUR HANDS, IT'S UP TO YOU
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING
THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING

CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

I WAS THE ONE WHO ALWAYS BAILED YOU OUT
OF YOUR DEPRESSIONS AND YOUR DIFFICULTIES
I NEVER THOUGHT THAT YOU WOULD LET ME DOWN
BUT THE NEXT TIME YOU'VE IN TROUBLE
BETTER NOT COME TO ME

NOW I'M CALLING ALL CITIZENS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
THIS IS CAPTAIN AMERICA CALLING
I BAILED YOU OUT WHEN YOU WERE DOWN ON YOUR KNEES
SO WILL YOU CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING
CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING

One nation
under God
has turned into
One Nation under the influence
of one drug

Television, the drug of a Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V., it
satellite links
our United States of unconsciousness
Apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive
The methodone metronome pumping out
150 channels 24 hours a day
you can flip thru all of them
and still there's nothing worth watching
T.V. is the reason why less than 10 percent of our
Nation reads books daily
Why most people think Central America
means Kansas
Socialism means unamerican
and Aparteid is a new headache remedy
absorbed in it's world it's so hard to find us
It shapes our mind the most
maybe the mother of our Nation
should remind us
that we're sitting too close to...

Television, the drug of a Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V. is
the stomping ground for political candidates
Where bears in the woods
are chased by Grecian Formula'd
bald eagles
T.V. is mechanized politic's
remote control over the masses
co-sponsored by environmentally safe gases
watch for the PBS special
It's the perpetuation of the two party system
where image takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite politics are served to
the fastfood culture
Where straight teeth in your mouth
are more important than the words
that come out of it
Race baiting is the way to get selected
Willie Horton or
Will he get elected on...

Television, the drug of a Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V., is it the reflector or the director?
Does it imitate us
or do we imitate it
Because a child wathces 1500 murders before he's
twelve years old and we wonder how we've created
a Jason generationthat learns to laugh
rather than abhor the horror
T.V. is the place where
armchair generals and quarterbacks can
experience firsthand
the excitement of video warfare
as the themesong is sung in the background
Sugar sweet sitcoms
that leave us with a bad actor taste while
pop stars metamorphosize into soda pop stars
You saw the video
You heard the soundtrack
Well now go buy the soft drink
Well, the only cola that I support
would be a union C.O.L.A. (Cost Of Living Allowance)
On Television.

Television, the drug of a Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

Back again, "New and Improved",
we return to our irregularly programmmed schedule
hidden cleverly between heavy breasted
beer and car commercials
CNNESPNABCTNT but mostly B.S.
Where oxymoronic language like
"virtually spotless" "fresh frozen"
"light yet filling" and "military intelligence"
have become standard
T.V. is the place where phrases are redefined
like "recession" to "nescessary downturn"
"crude oil" on a beach to "mousse"
"Civiliian death" to "collateral damages"
and being killed by your own Army
is now called "friendly fire"
T.V. is the place where the pursuit
of happiness has become the pursuit of
trivia
Where toothpaste and cars have become
sex objects
Where imagination is sucked out of children
by a cathode ray nipple T.V. is
the only wet nurse
that would create a cripple

Television, the drug of a Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

On Television...

London Still
The Waifs

I wonder if you can pick up my accent on the phone
When I call across the country
When I call Across the world
I can see you in my kitchen I can picture you now
As you toast to your small town and you drink the happy hour

I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still

I took the tube over to Camden to wander around
I bought some funky records with that old Motown sound
And i miss you like my left arm that's been lost in a war
Today I dream of home and not of London anymore

I'm in London still
I'm in la la London still
I'm in London still

You know its okay I'm kinda happy here for now
I think I finally grown up and got myself a lover now
And if I ever come home and I think I will
I hope your gonna wanna hang at my place on Sunday still

Oh yeah I hope you will

Coz I'm in London still

And now I got it sorted here
I've really got it down
To a fine art on Sunday in a sleepy Sunday town

I wonder what I'm missing I think of songs I've never heard
I'm dreaming of your voices and I'm dreaming of your herb

I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still

Oh I'm in London still
La la la la la la London still

I'm in London

Also by Slayer:

Dance with the dead in my dreams
Listen to their hallowed screams.
The dead have taken my soul.
Temptation, lost all control.

Also, yet again by Slayer:

Minutes seem like days.
Since fires ruled the sky.
The rich became the beggar.
And fool became the wise.

Memories linger in my brain.
Burning from the acid rain.

Here's a couple I really dig:

Bon Jovi, "Bed of Roses"
"I dream about movies they won't make of me when I'm gone"

Tom Petty, "You Don't Know How It Feels"
"I woke up in between a memory and a dream"

George Harrison, "Any Road"
"And if you don't know where you're going
Any road will take you there"

Beck, "Pay No Mind (Snoozer)"
"Give the finger to the rock 'n' roll singer
As he's dancing upon your paycheck
The sales climb high through the garbage pail sky
Like a giant [naughty word similar to the name of the protagonist of The Hobbit] crushing the sun"

And GNR's "Civil War," which I won't post here since it comes close to a political statement.

Dear God,
hope you got the letter, and...
I pray you can make it better down here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
but all the people that you made in your image, see
them starving on their feet 'cause they don't get
enough to eat from God, I can't believe in you

Dear God, sorry to disturb you, but... I feel that I should be heard
loud and clear. We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
and all the people that you made in your image, see them fighting
in the street 'cause they can't make opinions meet about God,
I can't believe in you
Did you make disease, and the diamond blue? Did you make
mankind after we made you? And the devil too!

Dear God, don't know if you noticed, but... your name is on
a lot of quotes in this book, and us crazy humans wrote it, you
should take a look, and all the people that you made in your
image still believing that junk is true.

Well I know it ain't, and
so do you, dear God, I can't believe in I don't believe in
I won't believe in heaven and hell. No saints, no sinners, no
devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You're always
letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you
drown. Those lost at sea and never found, and it's the same the
whole world 'round. The hurt I see helps to compound that
Father, Son and Holy Ghost is just somebody's unholy hoax,
and if you're up there you'd perceive that my heart's here upon
my sleeve. If there's one thing I don't believe in
it's you... Dear God.

Shadows Fall- Thought Without Words

Having awareness but no true sense of self
You find yourself enslaved in chains of earthly wealth
The unending chatter that plagues the mind
Confusion will be all that you find

Chaos reigns in an untamed mind

Still question all i know advancing foward
This fallacy i have disowned

You must quench the yearning and false desire

Only balance will elevate you higher

You must train the body and the mind to serve
Envisioning thoughts without words
Chaos reigns in an untamed mind

Still question all i know advancing foward
This fallacy i have disowned

Encaged in a world that fear creates
You must release yourself and liberate

I am seeking the way...

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed
And it's no big surprise
Don't you think I know
Exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me

Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite

this is sorta my "namesake" song... i'm only porcelina on these boards, usually my nick is muzzle (or muzzgirl)... gotta love SP!

i fear that i am ordinary, just like everyone
to lie here and die among the sorrows
adrift among the days
for everything i ever said
and everything i've ever done is gone and dead
as all things must surely have to end
and great loves will one day have to part
i know that i am meant for this world
my life has been extraordinary
blessed and cursed and won
time heals but i'm forever broken
by and by the way...
have you ever heard the words
i'm singing in these songs?
it's for the girl i've loved all along
can a taste of love be so wrong
as all things must surely have to end
and great loves will one day have to part
i know that i am meant for this world
and in my mind as i was floating
far above the clouds
some children laughed i'd fall for certain
for thinking that i'd last forever
but i knew exactly where i was
and i knew the meaning of it all
and i knew the distance to the sun
and i knew the echo that is love
and i knew the secrets in your spires
and i knew the emptiness of youth
and i knew the solitude of heart
and i knew the murmurs of the soul
and the world is drawn into your hands
and the world is etched upon your heart
and the world so hard to understand
is the world your can't live without
and i knew the silence of the world

From memory alone and missing a verse or two I think and if memory serves the song is called New England by Billy Bragg re-recorded by Kirsty McColl.

"I was twenty one years when I wrote this song,
I'm twenty two now but I won't be for long.
People ask me when will I grow up to understand why the girls I knew at school are already pushing prams.

I saw two shooting starts last night,
I wished on them, but they were only satelites.
It's wrong to wish on space hardware,
I wish - I wish - I wish you cared.

I don't want to change the world,
I'm not looking for a new England -
Are you looking for another boy?"

turn it on and turn it off.
Jean-Marie was complicated,

she's a Scientologist.
Pomerante here's a kiss,
I chose you to end this list.

I once had a beautiful sandwich
Oh, man, I'm talking, hey!
It was made with fresh beef bologna
That my mom bought yesterday.
It had butter and American cheese
On white bread, boy oh boy!
Slap a little brown mustard on top
And buddy, you're full of joy.

Somebody stole my boloney sammitch on the bus to school.
Was it Bob or Billy or Jeff? Oh one of them boys is cruel!
There's just--
Oh, wait. I'm, I'm sittin' on it!
I'm sorry, sammitch!!

Pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
take a bath, I'll drink the water that you leave
if you should die before me
ask if you could bring a friend
pick a flower, hold your breath
and drift away

Another great (and the source of my tagline):

Your time is near, the mission's clear
It's later than we think
Before you slip into the night
You'll want something to drink
Steal away before the dawn, and
Bring us back good news
But if you've tread in primal soup
Please wipe it from your shoes

Just then a porthole pirate
Scourged the evening with his cry
And sanctuary bugs deprived
The monkey of its thigh
A dust arose and clogged my nose
Before I could blink twice
Despite the stuff that bubbled up
I gave some last advice:

The flesh from Satan's dogs
Will make the rudiments of gruel

Deduct the carrots from your pay
You worthless swampy fool

Exploding then through fields and fen
And swimming in the mire
The septic maiden's gargoyle tooth
Demented me with fire
I drifted where the current chose
Afloat upon my back
And if perchance a newt slimed by
I'd stuff it in my sack

Soon I felt a bubble form, Somewhere below my skin
But with handy spine of hedgehog
I removed the force within
Suzie then removed her mask
And caused a mighty stir
The angry mob responded
Taking turns at grabbing her

The foggy cavern's musty grime
Appeared within my palm
I snatched Rick's fork to scrape it off
With deadly icy calm

The crowd meanwhile had taken Sue
And used her like a rag
To mop the slime from where the slug
Had slithered with the bag

In summing up, the moral seems
A little bit obscure...

Give the director a serpent deflector
a mudrat detector, a ribbon reflector
a cushion convector, a pitcher of nectar
a virile dissector, a hormone collector
Whatever you do, take care of your shoes.

My personnal favorite is only a line from a song, actually two different lines from songs:

The first, J.P. Murphy and Salt: "The Last Illusion"

"Friendship is the only thing that is never known to bite until it's dead"

The second, Peter Gabriel: "More Than This"

"Nothing fades like the future, nothing clings like the past"

Hey Stillakid Dear God is actually a Joni Mitchell song(to my knowledge, it may go farther back then her) which has been covered by everyone and their brother, obviously including XTC, and also a great version by Sarah Mclachlan!!!

Sorry Xir-

The "Dear God" that Stilla is referring to is by Andy Partridge...of XTC. Sarah Mclachlan did cover it. I don't know how you got Joni into this...I like her and and love the XTC song, but never heard of that. Plus a Google search shows over and over that Partridge wrote the lyrics. Not surprisingly, there have been many songs written called "Dear God", all of which have different lyrics. Maybe Joni has some obscure song called "Dear God", but if you can find the lyrics (I couldn't) you will find them to be different from the Partridge/XTC tune.

In other great lyrics, we have a Primus song:

"Too many puppies"

Too many puppies are being shot in the dark.
Too many puppies are trained not to bark.
At the sight of blood that must be spilled so that
We may maintain our oil fields.
Too many puppies
Too many puppies are taught to heel.
Too many puppies are trained to kill.
On the command of men wearing money belts that buy
mistresses sleek animal pelts.
Too many puppies.

Too many puppies with guns in their hands.
Too many puppies in foreign lands.
Are dressed up sharp in suits of green and
Placed upon the war machine.
Too many puppies are just like me.
Too many puppies are afraid to see.
The visions of the past brought to life again,
Too many puppies, too many dead men.

(Note that this was written in like 1991)

Family Tree
-Megadeth

Forgotten things remembered
The tigers eat their young
The body stayed but inside the head
The mind was on the run
A conspiracy of silence
The only way out of pain
Is turn around, run through it man
Too wet to come in from the rain

Tell them
I know they were doing it to you
But don't try doing it to me

Let me show you how I love you
It's our secret you and me
Let me show you how I love you
But keep it in the family

When you hear them saying trust me
Don't wait to see what's next
Thrown to the wolves
Forever trusting
Raised in a form of living hell
Sing a one note song of rage
Live and die within your heart
So beware in the shadows
Your family tree waits in the dark

I say
I know they were doing it to you
But don't try doing it to me, no, no

Let me show you how I love you
It's our secret you and me
Let me show you how I love you
But keep it in the family tree
Let me show you how I love you
Its our secret you and me
Let me show you how I love you
The secret of the family tree

Then there's some cool soloing going on and that chorus repeats. Creepy song, though, always gets to me.

Music can be such a revelation
Dancin' around you feel the sweet sensation
We might be lovers if the rythyms right,
I hope this feeling never ends tonight.

Only when I'm dancin' can I feel this free
At night I lock the doors where no one else can see
I'm tired of dancin' here all by myself
Too late, I want to dance with someone else.

Get into the groove boy
You've got to prove your love to me
Get up on your feet
Yeah, step to the beat, boy what will it be?

I'm not a big Madonna fan, but I think this is a great 80's song.

The very visual lyrics of the Grateful Dead:
Lady with a Fan/Terrapin Station (as they usually played it):

Let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm
That will not forsake me, till my tale is told and done
While the fire lights aglow, strange shadows from the flames will grow
Till things we've never seen will seem familiar

Shadows of a sailor forming winds both foul and fair, all swarm
Down in Carlisle he loved a lady many years ago
Here beside him stands a man, a soldier by the looks of him,
Who came through many fights, but lost at love

While the story teller speaks, a door within the fire creaks,
Suddenly flies open, and a girl is standing there
Eyes alight, with glowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair
She takes her fan and throws it in the lion's den

Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance
The sailor gave at least a try; the soldier, being much too wise,
Strategy was his strength, and not disaster

The sailor, coming out again, the lady fairly leapt at him
That's how it stands today. You decide if he was wise
The story teller makes no choice, soon you will not hear his voice
His job is to shed light, and not to master

Since the end is never told we paid the teller off in gold
In hopes he will come back, but he cannot be bought or sold

Inspiration, move me brightly
Light the song with sense of colour
Hold away despair
More than this I will not ask
Faced with mysteries deep and vast
Statements just seem vain at last
Some rise, some fall, some climb
To get to Terrapin

Counting stars by candlelight
Some are dim but one is bright
The spiral light on Venus
Rising first and shining best
Oh, from the north-west corner
Of a brand new crescent moon
Where crickets and cicadas sing
A rare and different tune
Terrapin Station
In the shadow of the moon
Terrapin Station
And I know we'll be there soon

(Terrapin)
I can't figure out
(Terrapin)
If it's the end or beginning
(Terrapin)
But the train's put it brakes on
(Terrapin)
And the whistle is screaming
Terrapin
