This is not intended as a political thread. Please do not turn it into one.

Edwin Starr, who made those lines famous during the Vietnam War, has passed away at the age of 61.

Regardless of your thoughts on Vietnam, the current war, or any conflict in between, this was and remains a darn good song by an incredible talented performer. A moment of silence, please.

Sad to know that the world has just a little less soul today than it did before.

Didn't springsteen cover it on an album back in the eighties?

Any how...sad news....especially during days like these.

I think it actually came from the live boxed set that he put out in... 1987 (?)

Man... Edwin Starr... heavy rhythm... heavy soul... heavy heart.

Yup, it's the second track on disc 3 of "Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live 1975-1985."
A concert video version is available on the Anthology DVD set. :)

i love this boxed set. springsteen tells a story about how he and his father were always fighting. his dad would say, "wait till the army gets you! they will make a man out of you!"

then bruce got his draft notice to go to vietnam and he stayed away from home for three days. he went and took his physical......."and i failed"(cheers from the crowd). he went home and his parents asked him where he had been. he said, "i went and took my physical for the army". "they didn't take me".

"good" said his dad.
