WOW :sur: :crazed: Who else has seen this fine piece of work by GL and crew? The plans on the 4th were to cookout, shoot off fireworks and watch the Star Wars Holiday Special. Sadly the VCD I had didn't work so we only ended up seeing about 20 minutes of the show. Today I downloaded it off Kazaa and watched a good portion of it. Every review I've read is true this thing sucks! Even as a child desperate for all things SW I would have been so bored I would have left the room or changed the channel. Anyone else experienced the Holiday Special?

PS: Happy Life Day

It was an experience no Star Wars fan should ever have...:(

There once was an older Holiday Special thread, with some of the most hysterically funny posts I have ever read here on SSG. I would highly recommend doing a search and finding it if you have time - it killed me.
And yes, the show was awful. The only redeeming thing was the Fett cartoon, and it really wasn't too big a part of the show.

Ah yes the Holiday Special. I've avoided watching it but somehow feel the need to see Chewie's love child, Lumpy, so I might check it out in the future.

I downloaded it from Kazaa also and watched the begining...well, I shut it off part way through the Lumpy's great adventure.

The Phantom Menace gets to stay out of last place for eternity because of the Holiday Special.

Yes, a friend of mine bought me a copy of the Holiday Special, and there ain't nothing special about it. Unless, you are using it to line the bottom of a bird cage, there should be no reason for you to take it out and torture yourself by watching this waste of film. The Stormtroopers should have just shot everyone to death to put an end to it, but by the time they even make an apperance, it is already to late.

The only redeeming thing in this movie is the cartoon with Boba Fett.

I washed my eyes, and went to confession after seeing this.

I downloaed it last night. It is horrible, especially that Boba Fett cartoon. I couldnt take watching it. It was so bad. That atrocity should never see the light of day again.

I have a VHS Copy of the Holiday Special that was given to me by my sister-in-law who has a large contigent of Star Wars fans in her family. I guess you can say that I am proud to not have viewed a single clip of it. But my guess is now that I have a lot of free time (especially at night when everyone is in bed) during the summer, I will get to watching it sooner or later.

I think it's worth a look. It's like a strange parallel universe where familiar faces don't act like themselves. It's so weird to find something like this so late in the game. There is a good chance I saw it when it came out but I very easily could have blocked my memory of it out. My dad says he remembers watching something like this soon after SW came out but can't quite remember what it was. The HS does suck but it's important to watch to know the complete SW legacy.

If you must. Or you could get into cutting, sleep deprivation, or other ways of self-harm. ;)

On the plus side, The Phantom Menace will look that much better. :)

I downloaded it a few months ago and immediately deleted after watching the first 20 minutes or so. The scene w/ Chewbacca's wife cooking literally bored me to death.

Oh man, you never made it to the singing? It only gets worse if you can imagine. I have to admit that it's somewhat hypnotic to watch.

OMG, YOU are SO Funny girl!!! AAaaaaahhhhhhhhh, I'm rolling here on my chair can't stop laughter!!!!!!!!

woooooooooooooooooooo, taking breath.........taking breath! Holy moly!! :D :crazed: :D :crazed: :D

I guess I just wasn't expecting that comment, I dunno, but that busted my sides open and I think I slipped on my pancreas! Or was it the Isles of Langershands(sp?) ;)

Anyhoo, back to the holiday special...I remember watching it when I was a kid and loving it...I had to fight my dad for the tv that night and what sticks out most in my head is the dude going over the side of the railing and the troopers messing up lumpy's room.

My favorite part is the game/semi-porno the one wookie watches with the "star-d out 70's look" dancing girl! That is so awful, it's hilarious! And of course you can never have too much of Bea Arthur! ;)

You can download it of Kazaa, just search for "Holiday Special" and it'll come up :).

But personally I wouldn't download it. It's like purposely infecting your computer with a virus :D.

Hi....My name is Chuck M., and I love the Star Wars Holiday Special. It all started as a 6 year old kid, with a black and white 13" TV and an antenna for reception. Cable wasn't around back then, so we had to suffer through bouts of "snowy" picture and crappy sound. I remember being totally engrossed in the show. It was the next Star Wars movie, and it was on TV, what could be better?
After that night, none of my Star Wars playtime was the same. I couldn't recreate many of the pivotal scenes, because Kenner had yet to make a Lumpy, Itchy or Mala figure. The chances of getting a Bea Arthur, Diane Carrol, Harvey Corman, or Jefferson Starship in action figure form was a pipe dream.
I quit collecting Star Wars at 14 years old. The "ladies" became more important, so the collection was sold, so I could buy a guitar. Well, I rocked out for quite a few years, and it ultimatley paid off. I got me a woman. I didn't need the guitar anymore, so I sold everything, and focused on my new gal.
Then, 1995 came....and so did POTF2. I looked for everything POTF2 I could find. Toys, magazines, whatever featured the new toys. One magazine, ToyShop, had an advertisement for POTF2 toys. Right under the ad for John's Toys, was a small picture of an animated Boba Fett. I started reading the ad. This guy was offering a VHS copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special. It was like being blind for years, and my sight returning in a flash. I HAD to have a copy. So, I copied the address and phone # printed in the magazine, hurried home, and wrote a letter and mailed out a check for $40 plus shipping.
The day that tape arrived, was one of the happiest days of my life (since the birth of my children....and wedding day, I guess). I popped the tape in my VCR, and was transported back to 1978. I finally got to see the bright vivid colors of the hologram circus from Lumpy's game. I could see the sparkle of the sequins of Itchy's virtual porn girl. I could see the lightsaber effects surrounding Jefferson Starship as they play "Light the sky on Fire".
I really do like the Holiday Special, but not exactly for what it is, but for how it makes and made me feel.

BTW, I bought it on DVD at this years FX2003 in Orlando. ;)

The Holiday Special is 'interesting' . Although Beau Aurther in the cantina is quite the site. Hasbro make her as a figure, C3-P0 might be a golden droid, but Beau is a Golden girl. Any body ever see the movie Airheads?

Just be careful downloading stuff off Kazaa. Lately they have been on a subpoena binge. They are mainly targeted at people who have been downloading stuff from networks, especially students at universities, and people with a massive amount of files. But I hear they are going after individual users and people with as little as 5 files in their shared folder.

You can get sued up to $150,000 per song downloaded and keep in mind it is a federal count against you. If you are like me and looking for a full-time job this could kill your chances of getting hired. Upon hearing this, I got rid of my software (after downloading a few last songs  )

While a lot of this stuff may be a scare tactic against the public, I am heeding it. Downloading movies like the Holiday Special may not be harmful because as far as I know, it is the music industry that is the only one that is cracking down, as of now.

I don't think there is any problem with downloading the Holiday Special since it is a TV show and wasn't ever sold on tape or anything. As long as you don't try to tell it then there is no issue with sharing it.

WHAT, what, what? I have not, nor will I ever sell my Star Wars collection, not for a guitar, not for a new car, not for the ladies, not even if I'll end up in Hades.................I'm tempted however to give the holiday special a second viewing as I never made it through the first time.

Just watched this horrible thing for the first time this week. I heard all the stories and knew going in it would be bad. I didn't know how bad it would be. I didn't know that 95% of the dialog would be in wookie. I didn't know that part of the show would include simi porn with Diane Carol, Jeferson Starship, and a creepy cirus with a strangly homosexual vibe.

I didn't know that Mark Hammel would wear more make up than Mimi (from Drew Carey). I didn't know Bea Aurther would be seranading a giant rat.

I know it was the late 70's but that was just horrible. I don't blam GL, for this. Sure he could of stopped it, but there were so many other people who were actually envolved in the writing and directing of it to blame. Who on earth is going to want to watch a whole conversation between three wookies that can't speak English/basic? Who said "yea that's a good idea, why don't we do that." That's the guy that needs to be drawn and quartered.

The Boba Fett Cartoon was the best part, but it's like the best part of explosive diareaha. Why the hell was Luke flying a Y Wing? Did they not watch the movie, did they not know Luke flies and X Wing?

This thing aired exactly 4 days befor the day I was born. My dad (also a huge Star Wars fan) said he cannot remember watching it. For that I am glad. If he and my mother would of watched I'd of probally never of come out. It was just that bad!

Well, I just got done watching this on Youtube. I already knew, more or less, what I was in for, having read up on it beforehand. I didn't have quite the negative reaction most of you did; I got quite a few laughs out of the sheer absurdity of it all . . . but I don't think I'll ever watch it again. :D

For the record, I do not like Droids anymore.
