Republic News: Comic-Con Announcements

For those of you who aren’t attending Comic-Con this week, here is what we unveiled today at our presentation.

We are pleased to announce the creation of Jedi Master Points Auctions. Since 1999, you’ve been saving up your points, and we have finally come up with a way for you to use them. Scheduled for launch in September, Jedi Master Point Auctions will enable registered users of www.starwars.hasbro.com to use their Jedi Master Points as currency in a series of online auctions. We are still finalizing what will be auctioned on the site, but we will have hard-to-find items like Jorg Sacul, Toy Fair Darth Vader and the R2-D2 Astromech Droid. The promotion is scheduled to run for a three-month trial period. We will then evaluate the program for the future; however, this may be the only opportunity to ever use your Jedi Master Points, so don’t save them up for something in the future! The total number of auctions will also be limited, so bid early. As more details about the promotion are finalized, we will post on the website, so check back here.

The other major topic was a preview of our plans for 2004. Basic figures will be combined into one collection, and our goal is to release a new wave each month, with three to four new figures per wave. Each wave will have a theme, and the tentative themes for the first five waves were announced, as well as some examples of figures planned for each wave. The themes and some examples are as follows:

Wave 1 - Hoth

Luke Skywalker, Wampa Cave

Wave 2 - Tatooine

Luke Skywalker, ROTJ (previously shown on our website)

Wave 3 - Jabba’s Palace

Wave 4 - Battle of Yavin

Captain Antilles (Fans’ Choice #5)

General Dodonna (close runner up to Antilles)

Wave 5 - Star Destroyer

Dengar (with backpack)

Also announced was the introduction of a new assortment at the deluxe price point in 2004. This line was created to offer characters and accessories that are too large to fit in our basic figure line while remaining true to our 3 ¾" scale. There are seven figures in total, which will only be available in the Spring, and where possible, many of the figures will fit into one of the basic figure themes. Examples include the Wampa and a Jabba the Hutt figure that will be featured in an upcoming issue of Star Wars Insider.

MTFBWY and HH!!

New price point? Hopefully less than what it is now. I can't wait for the next Insider! That's a great way to use he JMPs. Now I just need to get cuttin'. :D

I like the idea of a wave theme, but one a month? Unless retailers and distribution evens out I don't see it happening.

Also, I believe Jabba at the deluxe pricepoint will negate the chances for a dais to be included.

Well it seems to me that the new deluxe sets are going to be much bigger which leads to a new HIGHER price point. Jabbs better be bigger or I'll be POed.

Jabba should be a playset, not a deluxe or beast pack. It should be pretty much the same as the ROTJ playset.

See, the problem is that Jabba (not being a creature or a place) is an actual character so they can't really consider him to be a playset. The dais that he sits upon really isn't a playset either. So... I can kinda see their point about making him as a Deluxe Figure of sorts. After all Ephant Mon was a HUGE basic figure so why can't Jabba be a HUGE Deluxe Figure? We can only hope for the best.

If they did it like they did for ROTJ and threw a figure in with it then the could make it a playset. What would be so wrong about sticking Bib Fortuna or another creature in there? Heck make it an entire scene and all. Get his throne room set up. If they just followed the lead of the vintage line it could be done.

How about Bib & a Gamorrean (who've always been great figs) and a solid carbonite block instead of the hollow versions we have now?

Maybe poor R5D4 will make an appearance in the Tatooine assortment.

I dont know if you were talking about my post above yours, but that sounds like a great idea. A frozen Solo and a guard or even Hermi Odle in there would be great. They could put a few figures in there, since they have many to choose from. C'mon Hasbro, if you talk about declining sales, then this would help boost them. Everyone on this board is excited about the Jabba. Please dont mess it up and do something lame. Do it right.

Or how about Jabba with Yarna D'al Gargan? The two of them together could be a playset!

I like the idea of having Jabba with Yarna. We all want this figure. I also would not mind Bubo or that Jawa who fans Jabba. That would be cool too.

Okay... but that's not what they are giving us, so why are we talking about this (the "what we wants") ?

Kidhuman, yeah, I was indeed referring to your post above my previous one. I'm not terribly keen on drooling sacks of meat like Hermi or Amanaman or Ephant, but that would be a good way to get that figure out there, Yarna too. Bubo, on the other hand, I could live my whole life very contently without. ;)
