I found all these fairly easy except for the Rebel Pilots 3-pack. I passed up on T-16 Luke. I got the Skiff Guards at TRU for the regular price $14.99. But 2 months later, I finally bought the Pilots at KB for $7.99 at clearance. This is the only time I saw this set.

I don't know why, but I never saw any of these is stores. I remember everyone was saying how easy these basic figures were to find and how mad I was at not finding them. Well Han, Greedo and Luke I picked up from eToys and the Jawa from Amazon. The three picks again I got from the Fan Club only because they had a "reasonable" price.

9/99: Jawa and “Gonk” Droid; Han Solo (2nd sculpt); Greedo (2nd sculpt); Luke Skywalker with T-16 model; Rebel Pilots Three Pack: Ten Numb, Wedge Antillies, Arvel Crynyd; Jabba Skiff Guards Three Pack: Klaatu, Barada, Nikto.

I found the four basic POTF2/Commtech figures over the course of a week or two at various outlets, and I think I might have picked up Han and Greedo together at Wal-Mart. I think Luke was a TRU acquisition, and I seem to remember getting the Jawa at Target. I never saw either 3-pack at this time, and didn't see the Skiff Guards until a year later at KayBee. I never, ever saw the Rebel Pilots at retail, even though I was told our local KB did get at least two shipments of them in during the Skiff Guards blow-out time. Believe it or don't, one of our local KB's still has at least 5 Skiff Guard sets left! :crazed:

I picked up Han, Luke, Greedo, and Jawa/Gonk at TRU shortly after they were released. As for the Rebel Pilots and Jabba's Guards 3-packs, I found those at KB during their initial release.

Figs were an easy find. I got Greedo on Ebay though for like 6 bucks. I never saw the pilots 3 pack and still dont have it.

The 4th quarter of 1999 came to a screeching halt with little new offerings for us collectors. Episode I items were packing shelves full, and Hasbro decided it was best not to release any new figures for November and December, because nothing was moving off the shelves. The October assortment was just as common as the rest of the Episode I figs to date, as was the R2-D2 carry case playset. The Naboo Royal Starship sported a new R2 unit, but cost a substantial $100 price tag. Thanks to the price this vehicle was not that hard to find. The only thing that was released that even hinted of rarity was the Tatooine Duel Three pack. This set was hit and miss with many collectors. Some found the set with ease, others hinted that it was impossible. Thanks to overproduction of the Purchase of Droids, Jedi Spirits, Mos Espa Encounter and Cantina Aliens Cinema Scenes were not generally moving, thus many stores never ordered, or even recieved any of these.

10/99 - Adi Gallia
Captain Panaka
Naboo Security Guard
Tatooine Duel Three Pack: Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul and Anakin

12/99 - Naboo Royal Starship with R2 unit

While everyone was worring about the Y2K thing I was having the time of my life watching some really GREAT movies. Sleepy Hollow was one of them, as was Toy Story 2. The newest release was The Green Mile which I think was one of the top ten movies for the 90's. However not all movies can be good: Flops like End of Days with Arnold Governer (I mean Schwartzenegar), and the Messenger bored audiences. The sleeper hits currently out were Being John Malkovich (Did anyone like this movie besides critics?), and Dogma were craving cult fans. Also in the current news is that DVD's are starting to take hold. Video Buisness' have announced that they will begin growing with the trend by pushing for Up-buys of the infant format. Current popular DVD's are the Matrix and The Mummy. It is estimated that 5 to 10% of American homes will purchase a DVD machine for christmas 1999!

I found the Adi Gallia wave in Wal-Mart and grabbed two of each quickly thinking that they would be rare (don't ask me why I thought that). I never cared to buy the R2 carry case even though I was slightly interested in the Destroyer Droid that came with it. The Tatooine Duel set I actually saw in stores three times. The first time I was at the Bellevue Toys R Us in Nashville, and I grabbed it excitedly only to put it back down. The Anakin looked bad, and the Maul and Qui-Gon were super posed sculpts. At the time I was really strict about neutral posed figures so I put the set back down even though it was the last one. I saw it again at a Kay Bee for $21.99 and thinking that it was too expensive I passed on it. Third time was a charm! I saw it once again at Toys R Us and broke down to buy it in spring 2000 during the $9.99 clearance of SW items. After I got the set I thought the Maul was one of the best sculpted versions of him.

I bought the Naboo Starship only for the R2 unit. I never had any Episode I vehicles up to this time, nor did I plan to keep the ship. I was going to give it to my niece, but instead kept the ship for reasons I don't know why. Within six months I would opt to buy all of the Episode I vehicles based on the Royal Starship. It was a really good vehicle! The worst part of the ship was when I would walk into Toys R Us during late 2000 and saw the vehicle for $49.99, $50.00 less than what I originally paid for it!!!!!!!!! Oh well, you win some, you loose some.

I got all these pretty easy. I really like the single carded figures. The 3-pack, I could care less. Even now. The Starship I got for $49.99. I waited for this one to go onsale. Can't afford the hefty price tag. I heard it got even cheaper, but by that time, it was harder to find.

Adi Gallia
Captain Panaka
Naboo Security Guard
Tatooine Duel Three Pack
R2-D2 carry case playset
Naboo Royal Starship with R2 unit
Found the figures pretty easily, but passed on the three pack. Did buy the R2 case ... later on clearance. (My son likes to use it as a play set.) As for the Starship ... I liked the way it looked, but didn't have the room for it and really didn't want to cough up $100. Much, much later I walked into a TRU and saw one sitting in a shopping cart full of junk by the front door with a $10 clearance sticker on it. Needless to say, I was happy to buy it then.

Sleepy Hollow was one of them ... The sleeper hits currently out were Being John Malkovich (Did anyone like this movie besides critics?)
Sleepy Hollow was very cool. My wife (who is not squeamish at all, believe me) complained that the movie was too gory. I thought that was pretty funny. As for Being John Malkovich ... how can you not like that movie? John Malkovich was great ... it was a good, weird and unexpected little movie.

Captain Panaka and the R2 case were easy finds at Wal-Mart. Adi Gallia and the Security Guard were a bit harder. I'd buy both from eToys a long with the Tatooine Duel. Gallia I'd see in stores one time after I bought her, but never would see the the Security Guard. The Royal Starship was a hard find for me. I never would see one in stores. I'd ask about them and no one would know what they were (one lady at K-Mart thought it was a Lego set). In the end I bought one from TRU online for around $80.00 before shipping. Had I wait another month or so I could got it for around $50.00.

10/99: Adi Gallia; Captain Panaka; Naboo Security Guard; Tatooine Duel Three Pack: Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul and Anakin Skywalker; R2-D2 carry case playset. Picked up Adi, Panaka, and Naboo Guard at the local Wally-World. Never saw the Tatooine Duel 3-pack at retail. I was sent one for review when I was writing an online toy column at the now-defunct Fandom.com. Saw the R2 carrying case and passed on the sorry-looking lump o' plastic!

12/99: Naboo Royal Starship with R2 unit. These things were in limited quantities, but were in just about every store that sold EPISODE I stuff. It was huge and expensive, so I had no interest in it at all.

Thinking they would be rarer (as they were released in cases of all old figs) I bought Panaka, Adi Gallia, and the Naboo Guard from a dealer, only to find Gallia several times at TRU afterward, but only saw the other two in FAO Scwarz weeks later. I pre-ordered the Royal Starship from TRU early on, thinking it might actually be difficult to find. I was also lucky enough to find the Tatooine Showdown there. I bought the R2 carrying case from Target, mainly for the rolled-up Droideka, but it was otherwise a waste IMO.

I decided to post this month early (normally I post every other day) because I need to keep the Wave By Wave thread up to date, and thought to get both of these posts congruant. So if I post on this thread, you know I'll be posting on the other thread the same day.

It's now the year 2000, and this year has started out with nothing but rare pieces. In fact some people claim to have never seen these in stores, and many cannot deny those statements. After months of being rumored to have been released the official date for R2 was this month. With R2 was a Stormtrooper and a new Darth Vader, and all the figs were in hot demand. The R2 would be nowhere, and dealers charged upwards of $35 for this figure alone. Since shelves were packed with the two month old "new" figures (adi gallia) retail stores just sat on their ordering hands waiting for things to thin out. It would not be another month or two until most stores started thinning out their Episode I 99 figs by having sales. Surprisingly enough by the end of the year the R2-D2 figure was shipped in whole cases to dealers and retail stores thus damaging the rare value of this figure. Such was the case with the Darth and Stormtrooper, as these figures were not extremely hard to find on clearance during December 2000.

The Jabba the Hutt Beast assortment with podracer announcers was a real hard one to find (as if the figures were not hard enough). Thanks to Opee, Kaduu beast assortments retailers did not play ball with Hasbro and refused to order the new Jabba. Mostly dealers who went through Hasbro like Yestertoys and Al's Toybarn got these. It was not uncommon to pay astronomical prices on this set because many thought this would be the only chance to get Fode and Bede.

Perhaps the most desirable exclusive of this time was the FAO Schwartz Faamba with Gungan Soldier. This set was not that hard to find for those who lived near a FAO store, but was considerably rare for folks like me who lived in Nashville. The Famba started out with a hefty (over $50) price tag, but by December of 2000 this set would soon start to go on sale for about $25. Overall this piece remained something of a rarity for many!

On a research note I will say that that this period of collecting was much like the 2003 period we just went through. Collecting was very difficult because stores would not budge on buying new stuff because they had too much of the old stuff. In the end we all don't have to worry about the 2003 figs because if you really analyze the trend of SW figs you will realize that by Dec 2003 we will be able to find mostly everything that we are looking for. As most of you from this post probibly realize I am really interested in the merchandising of these figures, and I worked with Hasbro later in 2000, so I know how they do marketing. In truth they always get us most of the figs we're looking for. So for the next 5 months allot of rare stuff would be released, but could not be found on the shelves (sound familiar). It would not be until August (sound familiar) that we would start finding new stuff on the shelves all of the time during 2000!

1/00 - R2-D2 with Hologram Leia
Stormtrooper (2nd sculpt)
Darth Vader with Interogation Droid
Jabba the Hutt with Podrace Announcers
Faamba with Gungan Soldier (F.A.O. Shwarz exclusive)

In theaters things were really slow. Holiday films still reigned with American Beauty, Green Mile, and Toy Story 2. New films for this month was The Talented Mr. Riply (which was not talented enough), Girl Interupted, and Galaxy Quest. I have to admit I loved Galaxy Quest even though many are not fans of it. The jokes were so reminicent of Star Trek lore!

Now this stuff was hard to find. Just as hard as it was to find Lama Su, and Aalya on the shelves during March of this year!!!!!

The Vader and Stormtrooper I was actually lucky to find on the shelves the week of their release at a wal-Mart. It was a really poorly run Wal-Mart in Nashville that always had empty shelves, and they just happened to fill their shelves with this wave in January. No R2's though. I ended up using $40 in credit to get this R2, and although I needed two of them (one package, one loose) I held off getting two. Instead I bid my time and waited until later that year when I owned my own Star Wars store and just got R2 when I ordered cases of them!

The Jabba with announcer I never saw in any store except the one I opened later this year. I ordered several cases of the Jabba with announcers, but I never bought the set because the Jabba that came with it was so lame. His mouth looked aweful if you did not put his dinner in his mouth, and although I wanted the announcers by the time I got the cases I knew the new POTJ line would have a new Fode and Bede figure. So I passed on this one.

The Faamba I never saw in any retail, or through dealers (who charged under $100). Later around Feb 01 a valued friend of mine named Brian in Nashville got me my Faamba just because he wanted to give me a collectible piece I didn't have. I love the set, and the gungan was pretty cool too!

I never saw any of this stuff in stores. The Faamba I order directly from FAO and paid full price. Jabba I got lucky with and found one at Amazon for a reasonable price. As for the basic figures, Vader and the Stormtrooper I bought them in a case with some others from Entertainment Earth at summer. As for R2 after a long hunt I end up going to eBay and get screwed out of 28 bucks.

I, too, ordered the Fambaa directly from FAO, only to find them sitting there for months afterward. Vader and the Stormtrooper I ended up buying from a dealer. R2 took me several weeks to get, when that same dealer had one for $40. It was a lot, but I bought it anyway. I never did see any of these at retail. Same with Jabba, whom I also bought from that dealer. Had I known the correct Fode and Beed would eventually be released, I never would have wasted money on this abomination with the storyboard version of the "duo."

Stormtrooper (2nd sculpt)
Darth Vader with Interogation Droid

I found all 3 basic figures real easy. Love the Vader. The stormtrooper, eh, he's a stormtrooper that, once again, can't hold his weapon w/ both hands, despite the added articulation. R2, what's so special about this one?? The Holo Leia??? Bah!!!! It's just another R2 figure for me. I didn't even know this was a hard to find figure until later. The Jabba figure was so awful I didn't even give it a second thought. Please, pucker mouth Jabba is not what I have in mind for a new version. Glad they reissued Fode and Bede though.
Now, the tough one. I really had misgivings on the Fambaa set. First of all, its an all too high a price exclusive. No articulation. The details are not something to brag about. Just not a worthy figure for $75.00. A year later, FAO was selling them for $37.50 and I still held off. 7 months later, I decided ok, I'll go ahead and get this guy just to complete my collection. I went back to FAO and to my surprise, they've been closed 3 months ago. That was it!!!! I was Fambaa-less till I bought one online recently for $50. It wasn't worth it, but for the sake of completeness, I'm content to own it.

Okay, I never, ever saw an R2 w/ Holo Leia. Still don't have one to this day! Yup, even when TRU was blowing them out the doors at $1.97, I still managed to miss out! Vader and the Trooper I found the first week of release, on the pegs with the Ep. I stuff at Wal-Mart. Snagged two Vaders, but only one Trooper, and never saw them again until the TRU blow-out. Now, I did see the Jabba/Podrace Announcer set at WM, but thought it looked pretty bad (as well as not being movie-acurate, as the two actors that voiced Fode & Bede ended up being digitally replaced in post-production). The Faamba was too large and expensive to even consider buying--just like the Naboo Royal Starship!

Never saw R2-D2 with Hologram Leia ... and I did look.
Stormtrooper and Darth Vader I found pretty easily.
Jabba the Hutt with Podrace Announcers I only saw once (and bought, even though it's sort of obscene) at Target.

As far as the Faamba with Gungan Soldier goes ... too expensive and the FAO nearest to me at the time (in Glendale) constantly smelled weird, so I avoided it.

R2-D2 with Hologram Leia--never saw it at ANY store...got it as a Christmas gift from my sister...off ebay

Stormtrooper (2nd sculpt)--clearance sale at TRU, picked up two for $1.99 each...best stormtrooper yet! Should have bought more!

Darth Vader with Interogation Droid--clearance sale at TRU, picked him up there for $1.99 I like this figure!

Jabba the Hutt with Podrace Announcers--never saw it at any store, did not care to get it...waiting on that "definitive" Jabba to suffice

Faamba with Gungan Soldier--never looked for it, not interested

O.K. I have to admit that this one of the most diffucult times to find figures. It's second only to the silly 2003 period. Shelves are still clogged with junk, and with no end in sight. Sales have just begun, and now slide figures like the Mon Mothma wave is showing up everywhere for $1.98 clearance. Among these on clearance is the AT-AT Driver, Leia in Hoth, and Death Star Droid slide figures. These figures disappeared fast, and anything that was new that was released went just as fast. The only thing that really sat on the shelves was the soft good figures, but for the rest of the figures they were almost impossible for some to find. The Watto's Box (perhaps the best three pack next to Jabba Skiff Guards) was a real source of contention as these were rumored to have not been released at all. However dealers maintained the monopoly on these sets. The scout car was fairly easy to find, and the Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan two pack was not that impossible to find either.

2/00 - Anakin Skywalker with Cockpit accessories
Obi-Wan Kenobi with real hair
Darth Maul Sith Lord
Darth Sideous Hologram
Naboo Royal Guard
TC-14
R2-B1
Watto’s Box Three Pack: Watto, Graxol Kelvyyn, and Shakka
Armored Scout Tank with Battle Droid
Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi two pack

The Cider House rules is winning critics, while My Dog Skip is just drooling. IMAX theaters are now starting to become popular, and Fantasia 2000 is hoping to wow audiences on such screens.

Since I have had pleasure of reading allot of your posts, and getting to know more of you further I just wanted to slow things down and tell you a little about me around this time. I sure would like to hear about each of you, so please share your lives if you are willing. I know that plasticfetish is a daddy at about this time, and some of you are in college, and since I all consider you my friends I am interested.

At this time I'm living in Nashville. My niece is about six years old and I am teaching her everthing I can about SW. I am managing a Movie Gallery (video store), and it was in this place where I would meet my future wife. I have discovered the great wonders of the new DVD systems. After seeing the Fight Club DVD, I was hooked, and bought over 50 DVD's in the next two months. When your single you have some money!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really lucked out during this time. I never wasted my time with the soft goods figures, but I did get the Darth Maul since he really looked wicked. This wave was a really easy find.

I really lucked out with the Darth Sideous Hologram and Royal Guard at a local trade shop called Great Escape in Nashville. I went with my Assistant Manager to pick up some cardboard cutouts of SW characters to push presales on Episode I Video's for my store at Movie Gallery. When we went in to pick out the cutouts that would be given away for prebuyers I spotted the figures drooling, and bought them. They were some great figures.

Even better was the R2-B1 and TC-14 figures. I just visited my local Wal-Mart one day and there they were. I went back a few times and saw these figures on the shelves thinking that they were another bunch of common figures. Needless to say I found out they were extremely rare a month later.

The Watto's Box I never saw in stores, nor did I hear of them being in stores. Instead in July I ordered 7 or 8 cases for my SW store Scene 70, which I would open up in August. Until I ordered cases I never saw them.

The armored scout tank I bought for the Blue Battle Droid. It was an easy and unimpressive find. As for the Obi-Wan and Darth Maul I could care less. I don't remember seeing it but once or twice!

I bought nearly everything in this wave from a dealer, although I later found the Anakin, Maul, and Obi-Wan at TRU months later on clearance. The only one I bought at retail was the Naboo Royal Guard (the only one the dealer didn't have), which I found at FAO. Interestingly, that one time at FAO they also had TC-14, R2-B1, and Hologram Sidious, which I'd already gotten. Watto's Box I never saw at retail, so I didn't mind paying a little extra for it.

I bought the Battle Droid at TRU, simply cuz it was the only way to get the blue one. Easiest find of the wave.

Looking back through my database, I see that I found Darth Vader in March of 2000 at a place called Docking Bay 93. It's a little bit of a drive to get there so I would only check that place out once a month at best. As a result, I don't find much new there anymore because I have usually found it at retail by the time I get around to making my way there. It was quite useful for me in 1999 when I started collecting. I was able to fill in a lot of the POTF2 figures by going there, as they were still somewhat plentiful then.

The Stormtrooper I didn't find until December of 2000. I seem to recall TRU had lots of them and Vader at that time. I got another Stormtrooper a couple months later. I never did see Jabba or R2-D2 with holo Leia. I finally bought R2 from Brian's Toys in September 2002 for $30. Once they came out with the POTJ podrace announcers, I had no need for the Jabba set as I already had the POTF2 Jabba.

I seem to recall seeing the Famba at Target, but maybe I am just thinking of the 12" Dewback with Stormtrooper. The closest FAO is in Seattle I think. I was down there a few times in late 99 early 00, so maybe that is where I saw it. Either way, it was too big and expensive for me at the time.

Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Darth Maul I found at Wal-Mart in the late spring. And Scout Tank I also got from Wal-Mart (I wanted the figure, not the tank). The rest I never saw in stores. Darth Sideous, the Royal Guard (or are we talking about the Foot Solider) and the two pack from Entertainment Earth some time that summer. TC-14, R2-B1 and Watto's Box I picked off of eBay a couple of years later.

Yep, some things are getting hard to find. After the R2 w/ holo Leia thing (never saw it) I wasn't taking chances on new figures ... if I saw it, I bought it. It's too bad that some of these were so hard to find, they're some of the best.

Anakin Skywalker - found it pretty easily, don't know why I needed another Anakin figure, but I bought it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi with "real" hair - found easily, bought it because the hair is so creepy.
Darth Maul Sith Lord - found it easily, cool enough figure I suppose.
Darth Sideous Hologram - saw a few of these and grabbed them up.
Naboo Royal Guard - saw this once, wish I'd seen another.
TC-14 and R2-B1 - only saw these two once ... am pretty happy I did, but I would have loved another set to have them loose.
Watto's Box Three Pack - never saw it. Would have bought it if I did.
Armored Scout Tank with Battle Droid - found both box versions of this somewhat easily.
Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi - I don't remember seeing this. Got the break-apart Maul later anyway.

2/00: Anakin Skywalker with Cockpit accessories; Obi-Wan Kenobi with real hair; Darth Maul Sith Lord; Darth Sideous Hologram; Naboo Royal Guard; TC-14; R2-B1; Watto’s Box Three Pack: Watto, Graxol Kelvyyn, and Shakka; Armored Scout Tank with Battle Droid; Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi two pack.
Pilot Anakin, Soft goods Obi-Wan and Darth Maul, and Hologram Sidious were all fairly easy Wal-Mart finds. Naboo Royal Guard took some hunting, but turned up at last at K-Mart. TC-14 was a TRU find that I hoped would signal finding an R2-B1, but someone must have beat me to them at that TRU. As it would turn out, I never did find one at retail, and still don't own one! :(

Maul vs. Obi-Wan was another Wal-Mart find. Since I take my figs out of the packs, I soon learned that the magnet in Maul's waist was too strong for Obi-Wan to actually chop him in half--all he was ever able to manage was spin Maul's torso! I didn't bother with the AST, as I almost never buy the 3-3/4" vehicles. The Watto's Box 3-pack I got as part of a shipment of Star Wars toys to review for Fandom.com. I'm not sure when it was, but Fandom was already selling Power of the Jedi figs by then, so ... :D .

Having just been shamed by my parents into giving away all my Joes a few months earlier, I was determined to collect the SW toys when I first learned that Kenner had the license. I got the Early Bird Certificate for Christmas 1977, and was excited as a 5-year-old when those first four Kenner figures arrived in the mail in early 1978: R2-D2, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca! I continued collecting them all through high school and college--surprisingly, none of my girlfriends ever gave me any grief about my frequent runs to TRU! In fact, some of them used to help me look, and I even got one started on collecting them, herself. :D

Because I was always in the toy stores looking for Star Wars figures, I started noticing other toy lines. I started buying Kenner's Super Powers line, too. Although I skipped Masters of the Universe, I had complete collections of Silverhawks, The Real Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Star Trek, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at one time! When Toy Biz came out with their rather uninspired Batman figures in 1989, I bought them, but was so glad when Kenner got the license! I also got the first four waves of Spawn toys by McFarlane, but later started having to scale back my collecting as all of these figure lines started to really grow. The action figure boom of the 1990s almost made me bust! Today, I concentrate almost exclusively on Star Wars 3-3/4" collecting, although I still pick up the occasional Batman, Spawn, Movie Maniacs, or JLA figure. I'm a big devotee of female action figures, and I'm really looking forward to Mattel's JLA Hawkgirl!

Saw the one's I don't like more than once. Anakin, Maul and Obi, I passed. Holo Sid and Royal Guard, I bought and saw only once in Wal-mart. Never seen R2 and TC. Had to resort to e-bay. Scout Tank, TRU. And Watto's Box, K-B @ $7.99. Yep, it was a hard time to find new figs.

Now that I have depressed many of you over how hard it was to find figures I can only say: "IT'S TIME TO MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE!" One of the most annoying waves to collect to date was the Sio Bibble wave. Hasbro has just announced that it has intentions of making a new package for figures to combine the classic films and TPM. It has allready been announced that Hasbro was going to release a Mas Ameeda, new Tuskin Raider and a New Chewbacca, but we would have to hold on to these rumors for another 4 months. The Target exclusive Tatooine Skiff was a long time in the making, and was not very visible until a month or so because they flew off the shelves right when they were put out.

4/00 - Sio Bibble
Pit Droid 2-Pack
Queen Amidalla in Battle gear
Jar Jar Binks with Shield Generator
Tatooine Skiff with Luke Skywalker (Target exclusive)

In theaters Rules of Engagement, 28 (boring) Days, Erin Brockovich were the top films, but most people were drooling over previews for Gladiator, X-Men and the Perfect Storm.

I lucked out once again with this wave. Walked into my local Wal-Mart and there they were. I bought two of every figure, and there must have been 7 cases of this wave because they were everywhere. The Jar Jar I passed on because I didn't need another one of those figures, but the Skiff was a different story alltogether. I ordered it through mail for $80 because I could not wait for it. It was more credit that I was out of, but it was worth it bigtime.

I was still working at my Movie Gallery, and this was the month Episode I came out on VHS. I was extremely happy with myself as we presold over 300 copies of the title because I held a contest for anyone who bought a copy. 1st and 2nd place winners won a 12" Han and Tauntaun. 3rd place one a Mynock Hunt, and 4th through 9th place won a cardboard cutout of an episde I character. I also got a second job at the local Carmike Cinemas in my area and worked in the projections booth splicing movies and chilling out. It was a good down time job!

4/00: Sio Bibble; Pit Droid 2-Pack; Queen Amidalla in Battle gear; Jar Jar Binks with Shield Generator; Tatooine Skiff with Luke Skywalker (Target exclusive).
Sio Bibble & the Pit Droids I found at my local Wal-Mart in Gastonia without too much trouble. Amidala was a TRU find. I passed on Jar Jar w/ Shield Generator, but I only ever saw him once at Wal-Mart, anyway. I never, ever saw the Skiff at any of the Targets I frequent in my part of NC (one in Gastonia, two in Charlotte). Rumor had it that they were all held in the back by scummy employees who sold them at outrageous mark-ups to toy scalpers, who then sold them for obscene mark-ups at the flea markets!

I bought Bibble, Amidala, and the Pit Droids from a dealer. Skipped out on Jar Jar, and got extremely lucky with the Skiff. I went into Target one night for completely unrelated reasons, walked over to the toy section just for the heck of it, and there was just one Skiff sitting there. I couldn't believe me luck (for a change) and bought it immediately.

Of the basics, I saw none of them in stores. Part of the reason for this was that summer I was doing an internship and wasn't looking for anything. Later I'd buy these three from Entertainment Earth. The Jar Jar thing I bought at Target on impulse. And the Skiff I'd find at Target, but only months later, October I believe.

Hhhmmmm, let me see. Jaff, you're right. This is a very depressing lineup.
All of these I've never seen in retail. I bought Sio Bibble from e-bay. I am not paying any more high prices w/ the others. The only other item I have is the Skiff. I had to grab a stocklady and show her a photo so she knows what to look for. After 20 minutes, she came from the back w/ a minty fresh Skiff. She said there's more back there but they just haven't put them on the shelves. Talk about a possible hoard. They need to re-issue this one real bad. :frus:

The only one of these I saw was the skiff, but I passed on it. My main focus was on collecting figures, and since I already had a Luke Jedi, I figured I didn't need it.

I am not familiar with that Jar Jar figure. I just took a quick look at the Collectors's database on this site and didn't see one. What section is it listed under?

Sio Bibble, Amidala and Pit Droids I got from Brian's Toys September '02. The Sio Bibble was on a European card.

Posty333 - This Jar Jar can be found in the Episode I section under Basic figures. He is not much to look at though.

OC47150 - You are absolutely right OC. I just looked at my release list and realized that I missed the month of March 2000. Admiral Motti was actually out before this wave as well as the Swimming Jar Jar wave. I will post this month on Friday, sorry for the mix up there everyone.

Not a problem, Jaff.

This time period pains me because I did see Motti, Leia and some of the hard to find Ep. 1 figures at a Target just one time. And stupid me picked the wrong figures to buy, thinking the others will be found at a later date.

I'll technical for a minute and said the official name was Gungan Assault Cannon with Jar Jar Binks. Despite Hasbro making it a gun, its really the front piece of the Gungan Shield Generator. Look under the Invasion Force section rather then the basic figures for more info.

Thanks to OC47150 I realized that I missed the month of March. Probably because it's hard to believe that most of this stuff ever existed on retail shelves. So now lets backtrack and find out if you ever found this stuff. The Motti wave and Swimming Jar Jar were quite rare indeed. Jar Jar went upwards to $50 each, while Motti and Leia still command a firm raririty. Also released in March was Wuhur the Bartender. This figure was the fan club exclusive. At this time the Fan Club was going through it's death throes as Wizards of the coast was buying the magazine out, and selling off most of their inventory.

Princess Leia and Motti I only saw once, and I bought both of them. I never saw a swimming Jar Jar since he was only one to a case, and I mail ordered him about six months ago just to have him in package. I did see a Qui-Gon and Destroyer Droid but passed on them because I did not need rehashed same-old figures. These figs would not be hard to find, but the Jar Jar in this wave was impossible. I did not order Wuher until around June when I was starting to create my Star Wars store. I ordered about 25 of them to start a small inventory of this figure, and two of that 25 were mine!

Had my chance on Motti and Leia but, like I said earlier, missed out on them. Never saw the Qui-Gon; bought him from Brian's Toys just in the last year. Passed on the battle-damaged DD; wasn't that impressed. Swimming JJ never made to my area.

A fellow fan picked up Wuher for me at TRU when they showed up.

Qui-Gon and the Destroyer Droid I found at Wal-Mart that May. Wuhur was way over priced and I never did him from the Fan Club. Two years ago I picked him up off eBay for the same price I wasn't will to give to the Fan Club (good things do to happen to bad people). Leia, Motti and Jar Jar I never saw in stores. Leia and Motti I got from Entertainment Earth. Jar Jar I'd buy from Brain's Toys two years ago.

For the first time, I'm not sure which retail outlet I found figures at! Wuher I ordered from another collector online, and Motti I picked up at a collectibles shop in Kannapolis, NC (they mostly sold NASCAR stuff but had just a few Star Wars figs, including ol' choking Motti). Swimming Jar Jar I never, ever saw at retail and still don't have one to this day! But Leia, Qui-Gon, and Destroyer Droid I managed to find ... um, somewhere! Actually, I probably picked them up one at a time over a period of several weeks, going from store to store to store to store TO STORE! Truly, it was a dark time for collectors. :(

Yep, these were sort of hard to find.

Princess Leia with Hood - I remember seeing this, but not really caring about it.
Admiral Motti - I saw this figure only once (at Target I think) ... still don't have a loose one. Another one that I really wish I'd seen more of. Would have been nice if he'd been in that Imperial Forces multi-pack, instead of that odd Stormtrooper.
Swimming Jar Jar Binks - I never saw him, though I'm not sure that I cared at the time.
Qui-Gon Jinn (2nd sculpt) - I can't remember if I saw it at all. I wasn't interested in this one.
Destroyer Droid with Battle Damage - saw a few of these, but not too many. I really should have bought more than one.

Okay, here is one I must have missed. Apparently I don't have this Qui-Gon figure. I have him checked off on the this site's collector's database, but I couldn't find him in my own database. However, I also didn't have the battle damaged destroyer droid listed in my database, but I do have that figure. So I looked through my box of Episode I figures and I didn't find that Qui-Gon. I did find a spider though, but I lost track of it. Didn't find it again until I pulled the last figure out. He was a small one though so I was able to get rid of it without being freaked out.

I found Leia in March of 2000 and ordered Wuher from the fan club at the same time. I'm not sure when I got Motti but I got him from Docking Bay 93, the same place I found Leia. Got the Jar Jar figure September '02 from Brian's Toys. And apparently I now have to look into finding this Qui-Gon figure. Who knows, maybe I saw it and thought it was one of the other two that had already been released.

By golly, I think it may have been a B'Omarr Monk from Hasbro's new 5mm figure line.

Actually, my B'Omarr Monk figure is assembled and on my desk in my bedroom.

Most of my figures are boxed up and in the basement bedroom. I hadn't been into that box in a while, so plenty of time for spiders to find it. I'll finally be getting my own house soon, so I hope to take more figures out of the box, and even out of the package and put them on display.

Now that we are waiting for the new package change Hasbro is only making some incredibly rare vehicles and a beast assortment. Even though we can't find the Motti figs, TC-14, and Swimming Jar Jar new stuff is on it's way, and soon this years released products were annalogous to a myth! The Eopie and Qui-Gon was no exception. Originally slated as a new beast assortment, Hasbro sold these sets to foreign countries like Japan. As you guessed it Dealers gobbled them up, and you had to pay big bucks (over $60 usually) just to get a peek. The Ammo Wagon and Trade Federation tank came in their own case assortments but were still not that easy to find. Some people even didn't know that there was an Ammo Wagon made!!!

6/00 - Eopie and Qui-Gon Jinn (exclusive outside U.S.)

Having heard horror stories about ordering from online stores (credit card number theft, stealing money, etc.), I was skeptical to ever order anything from stores that weren't connected with big retail chains. Unable to find the Falumpaset and the Trade Tank in stores, I took a chance on Entertainment Earth. I got both items from them in relatively short time, and used them for many of my future purchaes from then on.

The Eopie elude me for a long time. I wasn't going to pay a lot for one even if it meet skipping it. But two, two and half years ago Brain's Toys had a good price on them and I bought one. Well after a year, and several pm's I finally got enough courage to try to figure out how to put pictures on posts. Thanks to Plasticfetish I worked on this problem, and after several hours I am now ready to share with all of you some images of my store Scene 70. Allot of folks have been requesting to see it and I thought it would be best to place this store in the How Hard was it for you to find your figs thread because it is relevant to the timeline in the thread.

First of all during July 2000 I was managing a movie Gallary, and acting as a head projectionist at Carmike Cinemas. I would have never opened Scene 70, nor would have left Movie Gallery if I wasn't so vexed by my unthoughtful Regional Manager (runs about 80 stores). My Video store was just announced as the store of the quarter for 1800 stores, and my Regional and DM came in to give congrats. We started talking about my future when my regional said: "Well, your stores getting there!" I was a little dumbstruck: Getting there, we were #1 in 1800 stores, my staff was trained 1 position above their positions and we pasted everyone in contests. "I'm sorry, did you say getting there?" I said. He quickly realized what he had said, and tried to recover. "Oh, no, don't worry, your still a contender." He saw that he put his foot in his mouth again, and he tried to recover again. "What I mean to say is that you just need to compete more!" One is not successful in management unless they can compete a little, and I quickly retorted: "Sir, we have been #1 across the board for a year. I may not compete against people, but I compete in contests!" At that point my regional nodded and walked away talking on his cell phone like he was on an important call!

Facts were that I needed to leave that dead end situation. So I sat in my office one the next day still stunned at my aggitated effort, when a very special friend came to me and said he needed my help. I brushed my problems off my mind and started listening. "I want to open a buisness. I have some capital, but my credit is a disaster. I was thinking with your contacts, credit, and putting in some capital of your own would you consider becoming a partner with me in a buisness." I guess it was fate for me to open the store, because it was plain as day. There were dangers though because it would be all in my name. So if it went bad my life would go bad. After some time considering I said yes, and after getting licences, doing sight surveys, and so on I cashed in my several thousands in credit with SW dealers in four states and got a huge push on inventory. I also contacted Hasbro to get some distribution set up.

During July, here's the first picture of construction of what was to be known as Scene 70.

Jaff
10-06-2003, 11:21 PM
Scene 70 was located in a indoor shopping Mall on Route 70 called the Belevue Center in Nashville. We picked the name for several reasons which noone ever guessed. All of you are SW fans so I'll see if any of you can guess why the store was called that. Being in a mall had it's advantages and disadvantages. On the good side there was great exposure and traffic. On the downside rent was astronomical, but you have to take a gamble and know how to budget your store for success. Since I was thinking of bringing in bucks quickly to create a SW fan base we made a window display at the front of the shop in July a month before we opened. Since I knew what was rare, I displayed Watto's Box, Jabba Skiff Guards, 12" exclusives and so on to grab the eye. We allready had cases of such stuff ready to go, and I wanted people to be thinking of those pieces for another month before we opened.

Jaff
10-06-2003, 11:39 PM
Well you can't run a store without advertising, and T.V would have been a fortune, as would be radio. In a month I would start writing for a newspaper, so we would get free advertising there, but for now we were in need of exposure. So in July we began to hand out tons of flyers by walking around in SW costumes around the mall.

The first picture denotes a sign of something different in Nashville! :D

The folks handing out flyers is me in my Emperor's Royal Guard costume, my niece Ciarra as Amidalla, and a costume designer buddy of mine named Eric.

Well it's time to roll out POWER OF THE JEDI!!!!!

In the first week of August Power of the Jedi figures were now starting to roll out everywhere, however because of the long drought in stores for new stuff people were gobbling up these figures left and right so it would not be until around September that these would be found on the shelves with ease. Hasbro released 2 collections, and upon their initial release the Collection 1 set was much easier to find compared to the Collection 2 as everyone wanted multiple Battle Droids, Coruscant Guards, and Mas Ameda and Chewie were just too cool for anyone to pass on. Also released at this time was the Target Exclusive Y-Wing with Pilot. This vehicle was pretty hard to find for some, but was produced strong enough for everyone to get many.

8/00 - Chewbacca with Dejarik Game
Tuskin Raider
Mas Ameda
Battle Droid “Security”
Corcuscant Guard
Obi-Wan Kenobi “Jedi”
R2-D2 Naboo Escape
Anakin Skywalker Mechanic with Pit Droid
Darth Maul Final Duel
Y-Wing Fighter with Pilot (Target exclusive)

In entertainment news Robert Downey Jr. is released from prison after a year for his drug problems. Our beloved Alec Guiness (The one and only Obi-Wan Kenobi)died on August 5th due to his liver cancer illness. In theaters Hollow Man showed that it had a hollow script, while Space Cowboys showed us that age doesn't matter in space. The best news around this time was that the DVD set of the Planet of the Apes movies was released! In music Britney Spears was #1 (????), and Eminem was proving that a candy name could sell records (???)

In August 1st, 2000 Scene 70 opened. At first buisness was really slow for the first two or three days, but within two weeks we were getting slammed with big spenders. Scene 70 literally had every single POTF2 toy, as well as episode I stuff. Since Nashville had some serious collectors we hit it off great our opening month. So sit back, look at some pics, and enjoy my old store.

At the main cashwrap was my Diorama display. It changed every month. For August it was the Cantina, and I choped off a Ponda Boba arm (Nooooooo!). I would later do a Hoth Base, Jabba Sailbarge and other Dio's but the Cantina was always my favorite one!

Picture 7 was our Cinema Scenes display located to the upper right of the diorama on a head high shelf. We had over 20 of each 3 pack, and a little extra Watto's Box and Rebel Pilots. Man those were hard to come by around then. Later that year most of the three packs (except Watto's Box) would show up in every KB on clearance.

Picture 8 was our back counter special items. Upon the store opening there was not enough room to display 12" stuff so at the time it was nominated to hold the big exclusive packs. Later it would be devoted to expanded universe figs, then magic cards, and then exclusive items. This display was just behind the diorama which can be seen in the diorama pictures.

Picture 9 was to the left of the diorama and was our second cash register if it became busy. The diorama glass on this side was mainly foreign figs, exclusive items and rare stuff like Theater Luke, Tan vested Luke, Weequay with slide and so on! Later this display evolved into an all Magic card area.

Picture 10 is what made all collectors drool. It was a display of every 12" made to that time, and I was very anal to make sure we always had every 12" no matter what. Everything in the store was always sold for $5 to $10 under Lee's and Toyfare's book value, and nothing in our store was usually priced over $100 unless it was a very pricey exclusive 12". In fact we had a Blue belt Snowtrooper that went for under $70. The original Chewbacca with flap went for around $35. This area was just behind the main diorama, and to the right of the back counter display.

Picture 11 was the second drool area to the left of the back counter display. Scene 70 had no less that 8 figures of every figure made since 1995. This included Motti, Swimming Jar Jar, even the exclusives. I set up these figures in order of release date so the top shelf was orange cards, then shadows, then green, then slide, Flashback, then Commtech. There was a seperate area in the store just past the 12" area that was strictly devoted to Episode I carded figures and POTJ carded figures. Figure prices were usually around $7.99, but some harder to find figs were more. At the time I had ordered cases of R2 with holograms and we sold those for about $20 a pop, since shipping and the higher cost of these cases through hasbro dealers were more. Long Saber red cards went for about $10 like transition trays, and red Greedo wave was about $10 as well. Motti and Leia Commtech cost about $10 at that time.

Picture 12 was our sales floor just right of the cashwrap. A vehicle display was right on the floor with AT-AT's, Ammo Wagons, Federation Tanks, and so on. Next to it was the rest of the SW vehicles. Although Scene 70 did not have all the SW vehicles (Amidalla's ship, X-Wing, Falcon) I did special order any SW item ever made with a guarentee to find it cheaper than any dealer. Since I knew over 20 dealers I had no problem making deals to get stuff folks were looking for. Some examples were Sandtrooper with slide, vintage Takara figs, R2-D2 (slide Imperial trash compactor), and so on. I actually enjoyed hunting for hard stuff as my hunting days getting my stuff was over since I just bought multiple cases for store inventory, and just got first dibs on every case!

Picture 13 was our comic wall. I knew nothing at all of comics and I still don't even though I was in charge of maintaining the bills through Diamond. My partner was a comic guru, and he was really wise in that area. He managed the pull boxes, and it was a great system. In short if you wanted comics, gaming stuff or shirts he was the one to talk to. If you wanted figs you talked to me!

Picture 14 is of one of our early customers on opening day. Do you think he liked what he saw?

Now that I have finished writting a book for you I hope you enjoyed touring the store. Now back to buisiness:

8/00 - Chewbacca with Dejarik Game
Tuskin Raider
Mas Ameda
Battle Droid “Security”
Corcuscant Guard
Obi-Wan Kenobi “Jedi”
R2-D2 Naboo Escape
Anakin Skywalker Mechanic with Pit Droid
Darth Maul Final Duel
Y-Wing Fighter with Pilot (Target exclusive)

Well you could guess that I had 5 of each of these cases, and I picked one of each with not much trouble. Although we started to run out of these figs by the end of August I choose not to reorder until the Jek Porkins wave in September because I did not want to clog our shelves with old figs so I couldn't order new ones. As for the Y-Wing I ordered 10 of these beauties through a fellow dealer. He got some cash and some trade, and I got one of these happily.

I had a lot of trouble finding these figures. I have a few of em, COurascant Guard, Battle Droid, Maul. I saw Chewie, and R2 but didnt have money and never saw them again. I passed on the rest because I had versions of them already. I also didnt want Anakin, as there were too much of him already.

These figures were hard to find at first but the Coruscant guard and battle security droid would be plentiful at TRU later on. I picked up several of the R2s at KB for $2 for customizing.

The Y-wing flew off the shelves, literally!

All of the figures were easy to find. The Y-wing I saw one time and passed on it because the box had a big dent in the corner. (It would sell quickly anyway...I was not aware it was so "hot"). I never saw another Y wing again. That is the way it goes though! At least I found 2 skiffs and bought them both!! :) Anyway...

Late August I found the Y-Wing at Target. I'm first time in a one in over two years and I hit paydirt (I swore I'd never go back to one after putting up with the verbal abuse of a floor manager when their computer system wouldn't except my drives license as a valid id). R2, Anakin, Darth Maul and Chewbacca I'd also find at Target, but mid September. Obi-Wan I bought at K-Mart in the same time frame. Mas Ameda and the Battle Droid I'd get a few weeks later at Target. The Tuskin Raider I wouldn't see until November and got at Wal-Mart. Finally I had lots of trouble finding the Corcuscant Guard. I bought one from JamsToys, but much later I would see one in stores.

Having landed a job in retail management, I now had the funds to order cases of these figures directly from Entertainment Earth. I kept one of each for myself, and sold the extras to the dealer I went to, sort of a way of "returning the favor" for all the help he'd given me with those tough to find figures. (And before you all call me a scalper, I never raided stores to resell figs - it was either sell the extras, or get stuck with a bunch of doubles I didn't want or need). I never found the Y-Wing at Target, so I had to buy that from the dealer also.

Found my first 7 POTJ figures on 10/7/00. Chewbacca, Tusken and Battle Droid I found at Wal-Mart, and Obi-Wan, R2, Anakin and Maul I found at K-Mart. I found Mas Amedda at KB in November, and the Coruscant Guard at TRU in December. I picked up an extra Tusken at Wal-Mart later in October, and and extra battle droid and guard at Docking Bay 93 after Christmas.

I don't know if I ever saw the Y-Wing. I'm usually more likely to buy something like that when I'm not finding any figures.

Oh, and cool pictures of your shop Jaff. I would have been a frequent visitor if I leaved near that store.

All of these were easy finds in western North Carolina at all major retail outlets, so I picked them up at my leisure, with the exception of the Y-Wing. I think our local Target did get these in, but I still never saw the Desert Skiff w/ Luke figure there!

Very cool pics of your store Jaff ... I'm pretty glad it was on the other side of the country from me, 'cause I'm sure I'd have blown all my money there.

Tuskin Raider - found at TRU ... and I was pretty excited to see it.
Chewbacca with Dejarik Game - didn't see this much, but did find it at TRU as well.
Mas Ameda - again, found it but don't remember seeing it too often.
Battle Droid “Security” - I don't remember seeing this one or maybe I simply ignored it because of the lever.
Corcuscant Guard - saw it only a few times.
Obi-Wan Kenobi “Jedi” - very brown.
R2-D2 Naboo Escape - easy find.
Anakin Skywalker Mechanic with Pit Droid - only saw it a few times at TRU
Darth Maul Final Duel - found it also, but not often.
Y-Wing Fighter with Pilot - saw a bunch of them at one Target (bought one) and then they were all gone within a week.

The second wave of POTJ figures had some long awaited figures for fans. First off was Jek Porkins, then a Gungan Warrior. Not much to say about this wave as it was fairly easy to find this stuff. The Gungan Warrior was a bit hard since there was only 2 to a case of 12 and everyone wanted more than one of these guys.

There's not much to tell about my finding these figs. I ordered about 6 cases of this and bought one of each of the new figs. I must say that the Boss Nass fig was my favorite out of this bunch, he was just wonderful. Naturally these figs did not last long at Scene 70. On the first day we sold out of all the gungan warriors. Jek stayed on the shelves the longest for some reason!

No troubles finding these just about everywhere in my area. I picked them up at a Wal-Mart in South Carolina that I just happened to stop in, as it was the first place I saw them at. However, the price was still almost $6, as the drop in price from the COMMTech figs hadn't gone into effect yet!

Well it's October (2000 that is), and now that everyone is getting used to POTJ Hasbro is giving us a breather by releasing only 2 new figures this month and a very hard to find Sith Lords two pack. The Leia and Qui-Gon were shipped out 4 in a case with a bunch of other figures, so shelves started to clog slightly. Within a month Hasbro would address this issue once and for all by releasing all new figures in one case. Makes you wonder why they don't do that today.

10/00 - Qui Gon Jinn with Poncho
Princess Leia General
Sith Lords two pack: Darth Maul and Darth Vader

In movies audiences went out to Meet the Parents, but the great movie out at this time was Men of Honor. What a flick!

At Scene 70 I only ordered 2 cases of the Leia General, and Qui-Gon wave. I did not want to waste inventory dollars on 4 figures a case, so I would wait for the next wave that would be out a month later with two other new figures. As for the Sith two pack I saw one but passed on it because I don't really care for rehashed figures. However I wish I went back and bought it because it was a rare find indeed.

As for Scene 70 we now had artists coming in to draw japanese animation in the window of our shop which was really nice. Still, my real focus was getting the name of the company out there. So I decided to take a gamble and got in touch with Doug Murray of the late Men Behind the Masks company and decided to hire three Star Wars actors to come visit my store for autographs. I started calling all the local comic book dealers, and got in touch with some of my dealer contacts and I invited them all. I could have picked any of the actors, but I decided to pick Kenny Baker (R2) because he was a bridge for the old and new trilogy, and because David Prowse (Vader), Peter Mayhew (Chewie), and Jeremy Bulloch (Fett) had visited Nashville within the past two years. I also picked Maria DeAragon (Greedo) because she had never been to a Nashville show, and I remember reading her interview in the SW Insider a year or so ago. I also got Hugh Quarshie (Panaka), but in the end he couldn't make it because he was doing his own show in Europe and was unable to attend! So everything was set, over 20 dealers signed on, 2 actors, their agent and a bill for over $3,500 was on it's way to Scene 70 in November. We were not real sure if we were ready for it, but I felt we needed the exposure, and sometimes gambles could pay off. Most dealers said we were nuts to do a show so early from our opening. In fact they claimed that shows bust some buisnesses expense wise. In one month (er...next post) I'll let you know how it went.

Qui-Gon I found at Target around November and Leia at Wal-Mart in December. Of the two Qui-Gon was the easier find, saw lots of them. Now finally come to an item that I want but don't have. The Sith pack I never saw in stores and still haven't seen one at a reasonable price.

I skipped out on the Sith 2-pack completely. My dealer got one in, but I had enough Mauls and Vader's at that point to skip out on the hefty price he was charging. I did buy Leia off of him since she was rumored to not be appearing in any future cases, but I held off on Qui-Gon until the newer case assortments came out. This way, I could get as many new figs in the case as possible w/o having to worry about wether or not I could sell all the doubles.

At this point in my life collecting was on hold. I was extremely busy at work with 20 hour days twice a week and going on vacation. At this time of year is when I went and met my wife. I met her online and was talking for a few months with her. With all the overtime at work and extra money I took about 6 days off and went to meet her in Va. When I got back from meeting her, (we met as friends and things progressed from there), I had a lot of decisions to make with my job, life and all. She was coming to Ny in just a few weeks, so I had to save money for a long weekend. Collecting had to take a back burner for now.

I didnt see any of these figures even when I went tolook in stores. Wish I would have seen the Sith 2pack.

Qui Gon w. Poncho--at the time, I did not collect every episode one figure. I went back and got many figures I was missing. I got this figure off ebay for a fair price.

General Leia--easy, easy, easy find

Dark Lord 2 pack--never saw it...but I didn't really look for it.

When November came around Hasbro introduced two new assortments that only consisted of two new figs each. The first was Obi-Wan and Darth, which hit with strong popularity. Hasbro was very generous with Darth and Ben and packed 4 of each of these figs in a case so we all could get it, even though they were not really that easy to find when compared to most POTJ stuff. The next assortment was not that wonderful. Although Sebulba was 2 to a case the Fode and Beed was only one to a case so it was quite frustrating for many people to get this figure. The good news was that the Fode and Beed case would be the last Collection 2 case that was packed stringently. The next Col 2 case would be nothing but new stuff!

11/00 - Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knight)

In theaters M. Night was trying to continue his Unbreakable hot streak, while Jim Carrey showed us how cool he was as the Grinch. Still there were plenty of films to show us how crappy cinema could be. Want some examples, how about: Charlie's Angels (how did this movie make $100 million). Other low standard films were governor Arnold's The 6th Day. Want some more how about Little Nicky. Do you want some more pain. O.K., how about Red Planet.

I'm getting a little sick, so I'll go on to the next post. Sorry to torture you guys, I just got carried away. It happens some time. :crazed:

Well I guess by now you all know how I got these figs. I ordered 8 cases of the Darth wave, and it went very well because we actually got them about a week before all the other stores. As for the Fode and Beed Case I only got three cases. I didn't like the way these cases were packed so I just got a few. I did however order about 6 Fode and Beed's through a dealer with a trade in just for those who really needed him.

Well the toy show went into full effect and for the next three days I played host to Kenny Baker, Maria DeAragon, and a very fun fellow named Doug Murray who was their agent. I tell you Doug knows just about everything about the actors in Star Wars. I learned so many tales, some good, some rotten about practically everyone in the classic films. I honestly think Doug got more attention from me than the stars of the film.

Kenny brought his girlfriend Val, and they were a great couple. Kenny was having a hard time at this time, as he was concerned whether he was going to be in Episode II. Filming was just about done for the film, and he was waiting for George to call him to star. However it sounded like George, and McCallum were just too busy for Kenny, and he was a bit bummed about that. However Kenny did loosen up real well when he played his harmonica in front of audiences when a Jazz band was playing at a Jazz store next to us.

Maria DeAragon was just a sweetheart. She was a real sincere talker, and loved to share time with others. After the show we wrote letters back and forth, and she showed interest in comming to my wedding the next year, but we just had a hard time with follow up. Earlier this year I wanted to get some actors tales on this site through Doug, but the innevitable follow up problems happened. :frus:

So here are some pics of some of the visitors at the show:

Eating out with the actors, driving them around, and just talking for hours was quite fun, and I was on cloud 9, but managing the show was not the most enjoyable experiance I have ever done. First I needed to advertise. Since I wrote for a newspaper doing movie reviews I pulled some stings to get some front page coverage on The Tennessean, and other papers. We printed out T-Shirts, got a free T.V. advertisement, and got some SW sites to post our news too. We teamed up with a site named TNCOLLECTORS.NET, and ran a contest for a autographed R2 hologram, and Greedo, and another prize was the complete 12" Cantina Band group. Whoever got the most people to e-mail us saying they heard about the show would win, real simple. They didn't even need to come, we just wanted the word out!

So when the show came at the start it was slow, but then during the evening it was packed. However dealers can be tricky to manage. Some of them were very excited to be there. Others were just really friendly, and it was no big deal as it was just another show. Some brought junk, and screamed because buissiness was slow for them. Some charged way too much and sold nothing. Some were collectors like you and I who had fun and made allot of money. So I had deal with whatever problem, getting payment, taking their frustration, run my store, deal with actors needs, and keep in touch with mall personel on issues like theft, but mainly stores complaining about how a dealer just looked wrong outside their shops. :frus: All in all it was real fun, except for one dealer who did not make much and left in frustration! The rest we're happy biscuits, just like me.

Here's some picture's for you, and as for the store were we damaged by all the money out for the show? Well the answer was no. We broke even, and made some chump change on the side. But it was worth it, because now people knew about our store, and the name Scene 70 was out there!

These might have been figures I was sent to review for Fandom.com, back when I was writing their "Toyaholics Unanimous" column. Since I have no recollection of hunting for these figures, I'd say that was a pretty safe bet. In fact, I just found the article in the Cinescape Online archives (Cinescape bought Fandom.com's site and used many of their old web writers when they first started up). These sets were being sold by AnotherUniverse.com, which Fandom.com had bought and renamed The Fandom Store.

STAR WARS: POWER OF THE JEDI -- Collections 1&2 (Hasbro)
Let's start this look at Star Wars toys with Hasbro's latest 3-3/4-inch figures in sets and in sealed cases. Set 1 features six figures, primarily from Episode I. These figures are grouped in this set with "Qui-Gon Jinn (Mos Espa Disguise)," a great new sculpt of this Jedi Master. Qui-Gon comes with a cloth poncho, his green-bladed lightsaber, and an impressive eight points of articulation (including ball-jointed shoulders). The likeness to actor Liam Neeson is the best yet in this scale, and his left hand is posed in "Jedi-mind-trick" mode for his attempted influencing of junk dealer Watto. Completing this set is "Leia Organa (General)," from Return of the Jedi. Leia was dressed this way during the briefing with Mon Mothma on the plans for the second Death Star, and also wore the outfit under her forest camo poncho while on Endor's moon. She has the standard six points of articulation, one of the better Leia head-sculpts, and comes with two blaster pistols.

Set 2 is comprised of just two new figures, but they're examples of some of Hasbro's best work ever! "Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (Jedi Knight)" has the late Sir Alec Guinness' character in his casual robes from the scene in his hut from SW:ANH. The figure has eight points of articulation, a very good likeness to Sir Alec, Ben's blue-bladed light saber, and the hilt of Luke's father's lightsaber attached to his belt (it's removable). The second figure is a true marvel: "Darth Vader (Dagobah)." This is the Vader apparition that Luke faced inside the cave on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. It is molded in translucent black plastic, has a glorious ten points of articulation, detachable head (!), and a removable faceplate (with clear red eye lenses) that reveals Luke's own face under Vader's mask. The lightsaber is a rich, vibrant red (as opposed to the watery pink we've seen in the past with most Vader figures) and has a highly detailed paint application on the hilt. If you display your figures in a case or on a shelf, a little back-lighting makes a great, eerie effect with this figure.

STAR WARS: THE POWER OF THE FORCE (Hasbro)
Admiral Motti with Imperial Blaster: This is one of those rare, second-wave COMMTech chip figures released late in 1999, now almost impossible to find. He's one of those obscure characters who's a favorite among rabid Star Wars: A New Hope fans and collectors. Motti was the first character on whom we ever saw Darth Vader use the Dark Side of the Force to strangle into submission. Senior officer in charge of operations on the Death Star, Motti was vocally doubtful of Vader's abilities to use the Force to find the station's battle plans stolen by the Rebel Alliance. "Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebels' hidden fortress," he tersely commented, spurring Vader's silent hand gesture that signaled Motti's choking. "I find your lack of faith disturbing," Vader replied smugly. He would have killed Motti had Grand Moff Tarkin not intervened. Of course, Motti died along with Tarkin and the rest of the Imperials aboard the Death Star after Luke Skywalker successfully used the Force to target the station's thermal exhaust port, setting off a devastating chain reaction. This "Motti" figure possess eight points of articulation, including a jointed left elbow and left hand that allows for the recreation of Motti's strangulation. His COMMTech chip contains his "... sad devotion ..." speech, and interacts with the chip for the "Darth Vader with Interrogation Droid" figure (which is the single worst COMMTech chip ever produced!).

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knight)--found it but passed on it at the time, went back and bought it off ebay for a fair price
Darth Vader Dagobah--found more than one and bought one...later found another and bought it so I could open it and see luke's face!!
Sebulba--easy find
Fode and Beed--found it on a beat up card and passed...later worked a trade for it...it was a great deal for me...I got TC-14, R2-B1, and Fode and Bede for the holiday C3PO & R2-D2

Found the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure 10/7/00 at K-Mart. Sebulba, Fode and Beed, and Qui-Gon I found 11/25/00 at Wal-Mart. I forgot I had Qui-Gon and got another at Wal-Mart on 12/17/00 along with Leia.

I can't recall how common any of these were around here. Seems like there were plenty of Sebulba's to go around. I don't think I ever saw the Sith 2-Pack.

Oh, and I found Darth Vader Dagobah on 11/25 as well at Target. Since I never opened it, I never realized it had all those cool features, including Luke's face, until I read about it earlier this year when going through the Collector's Database on this site.

Jumping forward to January 2001 we got some very awesome waves, and the new ones were now packed with completely new figures (no repacks). Now when collectors went to stores they could find their new stuff because the stock rotation was very good.

12/00 - Han Solo Bespin Capture
Biker Scout
Battle Droid Boomer Damage

1/01 - Mon Calamari Officer
K-3PO
IG-88
Plo Koon
300th Edition Boba Fett

The hot films in theaters is the tremendously overhyped, but underimpressive film Traffic. Mel Gibson knew What Women Want, and Obi-Wan Kenobi was making the moves on Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge.

Well I ordered over 10 cases of each of these waves and all I have to say is wow, there was some great stuff out at this time. The only thing that I bought in stores at this time was the 300th Boba Fett. I walked into a wal-mart at around midnight and sitting right on the shelf was a opened box of Boba-Fett's. I snatched one up happily and stood in line for like 10 minutes while they were doing a drawer change over. I don't remember being so content waiting in line.

In December Scene 70 went under a few difficult changes. My partner at the buisness decided to go Game Crazy. After going through an Elf Quest phase on his computer (thus making me work more), he then got obsessed with Magic: The Gathering card game. I tried the game and thought it was o.k. I did agree that many people were interested in the cards, so we started getting cases of these cards. My partner was so obsessed with it that he invited people to play right in the middle of the store, and a bad pattern started. Instead of paying attention to visitors in the store he would be sitting with a bunch of loud mouthed folks, thus ignoring our guests. In fact his only care in the store was magic, and although SW buys were going down a little to create room for Magic expenses. Star Wars guests would complain to me that the store seemed to be changing, but I assured them that my focus was them.

My New Years surprise in January was a bank statement from our bank. During the first week of January while my partner was on another vacation I saw a bill for $1,300 payed out on new years eve to a BAR named Magilicudies. It was one of the biggest shocks I had ever recieved in a long while. Since we were partners he had the right to spend his money on anything as long as it did not hurt the store. However he never told me that he was going to make this payout, so when I first saw it I lets just say I was not happy. I wanted explanations. For some time he had been treating the store like a party palace, and never really treated the store like a buisiness. On top of that he worked only a fraction of how much I worked and I was a little tired of that. I guess this was the last straw. Instead of dealing with this issue he turned to his father to rescue him. His Dad offered to buy me out for $6,000, and it took arm twisting to get him to even offer that. I guess the father wanted to become a partner in the store, and really didn't know what he was getting into with his son. So I had a heartbreaking decision to make: Should I agree to the payout, and leave Scene 70 a buisness that was my dream come true, or should I take off my gloves and either shut down the buisness, and demand half!

I loved these waves of figures

I only wish that I knew the clean version of the Biker Scout was going to be so rare. I only found 2 at retail and ended up giving 1 to a friend. Looking back I'm upset that I didn't get the opportunity to army build with this version. The dirty variation was cool but the clean should've been the more common of the 2 IMO.

I found the rest easily, even the 300th Boba Fett.

You know Hellboy I never thought of that. It would make sense that the clean version should be more common, because you can't stand Dirty Biker Scouts in a diorama for the Emperor's arrival. Come to think of it the only time you can acurately use a dirty biker scout is during a dio of the battle after the Ewoks attacked.

This was a harder wave to track down. Of them all, Han was the easiest to find, and the rest were here and there at a variety of stores. I was fortunate enough to find three biker scouts (dirty) at Target in early December.

Only saw the 300th BF in the store once, and I bought it! It was the white-sided version.

You nailed my problem right on the head Jaff. I've seriously been considering painting my dirty versions clean but I'm going to wait to see if this supposed troop-builder pack ever comes out. Though from the pictures I'm not holding out to much hope as they appear to be dirty as well. With luck those shots are simply mock-ups and the product hasn't been finalised.

Overall I'd say this was my only complaint about the distribution/production of the stellar POTJ line.

I oredered a case from Entertainment Earth of the first wave. With 4 each of Han, Battle Droid, and the clean Biker Scout, I kept one each, and had no trouble selling the rest to my usual dealer, who hadn't gotten his cases in yet. I bought the dirty scout off him a couple months later.

With these even case assortments, EE started selling sets as well as cases, so I bought the set of Mon Calamari Officer, Plo Koon, IG-88, and K-3PO.

300th Boba Fett was the one figure I bought two of, as the packaging was too good to open. Ordered one from EE, then bought another from a computer shop a week later, to open.

Found Han and the Battle Droid in December at Wal-Mart. The first part of 2001 was a drought for me. Found IG-88 at Wal-Mart in late March 2001. Found Plo Koon, K-3PO and Mon Cal at Docking Bay 93 in late April. Ordered Boba Fett from Toyzz.com shortly before that, though I think I saw lots of those later. Got an extra Mon Cal from the fan club a year later.

I think I only saw the Biker Scout once. It was at K-Mart, and the card was damaged. I probably would have bought it anyway, but it looked like the figure itself was cracked in the middle so I passed. I saw a Darth Maul Sith Apprentice at the same time, also on a damaged card. I bought it anyway since I didn't know if I would see it again. However, that is a different wave to be discussed later. Eventually, I bought a dirty biker scout March 2003 from Brian's Toys. Passed on the clean one since it cost a lot more, and I have two speeder bikes that have clean troopers.

I don't remember having much trouble getting any of these figures, except the Biker Scout. As I recall, they were pretty scarce at first, then started showing up in larger numbers after a couple of weeks. 300th Edition Boba Fett was only slightly less difficult to find than the Biker Scout. Every time I'd see one, it was either when I was broke or the box was damaged. Eventually, I managed to score a decent one at Wal-Mart. Later, I picked up the box variation at a Wal-Mart in South Carolina. I wrote about the box variation for Fandom.com, but the article didn't get archived by Cinescape Online when they took over. Oh, eventually I did find a Biker Scout, but it's the dirty variation. Well, it was better than never finding one at all, I suppose.

February had some rehases, some disappointments, and some of the most difficult SW figures to find in the POTJ line. Hasbro was still not completely packing all new figs to a case, and it would not be until June of this year that new figure casing was fully implemented with every new figure. Still Collection 1 figs were usually easy to find. The flip side of that coin was that most of the Collection 2 stuff was really awesome, thus more in demand!

On television audiences are lowering their standards once again by craving the Survivor series. #1 in music charts is the band Shaggy with their album Hotshot. Jennifer Lopez is #2 with her subtely titled album J. Lo.

The Leia, Chewie and Aurra Sing were way easy finds at Wal-Mart, in fact for a year to come they would be peg warmers. My question is why didn't Aurra have her antenna? Saesee Tin and Queen Amidalla were another story alltogether. This wave like the initial Sandtrooper wave were another example of how poorly Hasbro can distribute figures. Amidalla and Saesee were released 2 to a case of 12. The other 8 figs were IG, Mon Calamari, Plo Koon and K-3PO. At the time the IG wave was everywhere to be found, and this case just added to the temporary mess. Most retailers who noticed how this case was packed skipped it all together to await the next new figure full packed case with Lando in it. Saesee and Amidalla I took no chances on and ordered them through a distributor. I'm glad I did because I never saw these on a shelf! As for the Freezing Chamber Playset: Yeah I got it, and I have to say that Bespin Guard was terrible. I couldn't believe how bad he looked. The set was O.K., nothing to scream about.

As you guessed it by reading that I was going to stores again I decided not to make a fight over Scene 70. I agreed by contract to sell my share of Scene 70 for 4 figures, and walked away. It was not hard to find a good job in Nashville with some experiance. Sadly I was to learn that my partners family had allot less character than I thought. They only paid me $1,000, not even a fraction of what they legally agreed to pay me, and I never saw the rest. I kept bugging them for awhile, but there was allot of talk and no following thru. As for the fate of Scene 70 my partner decided to abandon the SW fans and go with the Magic Cards completely. He ceased buying comic books too because he wanted to spend every dollar in the store on Magic Cards. Within two months Scene 70 was just a place to buy Magic Cards and to get ignored like any other comic shop because the owner and his buddies were too busy playing a game. The worst part of this was that he would hire folks to work in the store, and had no money to run it. His parents were in another state and his father really fought over my suggestions that his son needed some help running the store. His response was my son can handle it, he's been a great manager for years. I wish he could have opened his mind a little to listen to my warnings in early January. In the end while my partner was out of the store doing whatever Scene 70 just drained in money, and bill collectors started consuming them, esspecially Diamond Distributors who rightfully needed their payments. Having a payroll can destroy a buisness overnight, that's why most companies always scream to cut labor. My partner and his family were only able to pretend to be buisness folks for a few months before Scene 70 closed. The store went bankrupt, and my partner ended up living in a basement belonging to a grandmother of a girl he had a crush on a year later. I don't feel much sympathy for him or his family though, as they did not have a habit of following through with their word. Still I hope that they are doing allright now despite my feelings.

Over the course of a month, I gradually picked up these figures. This was a period where you truly had to hunt for some of the new releases, yet they weren't utterly impossible to find. However, things were pretty scattered, with some stores getting the Collection 2 wave and some not. Why does Hasbro even do that? Why make it possible for stores to pass on figures by splitting them up into "Collections"? Just have one line for the basic figures and distribute them all! That was working pretty well for the Saga line, once they consolidated that Collections nonsense, but now they've broken up into Collections again with the Saga and Clone Wars lines! Wouldn't it make more sense (at least it does to me) to include the CW figures as part of the Saga line, especially since they are being numbered that way?

Gotta disregard my previous post in the thread....with all the figures I've bought, it's easy to be forgetful. The first set EE put out was the Aurra Sing, Leia, and Chewie 3-pack, which I ordered from them right away. The K-3PO wave wasn't available as a set. I actually held off and ordered the full case with Saesee Tiin and Amidala packed in it, then sold the extras to my dealer. The Carbon Freeze Chamber was delayed over a year, but I ordered it from the Fan Club immediately after it became available.

Didn't find Saesee until New Year's Eve. I don't know if I ever saw the Queen. I think I may have seen it and passed on it because I got it confused with the Sabe figure. Apparently she is a good decoy for the Queen! Oh, and I got the Carbon Freezing set from the Fan Club in May '01 along with 12 inch Biggs and Wedge. I could not agree more Darthzirock. If it was up to me there would be no collections because toy managers usually unfamiliar with star wars will just pick a collection to order, not realizing what is in demand, and what is not. By putting everything in a case stores do not just stock one wave, and not the other. That is why when you go out to a wal mart you may see plenty of collection 1 stuff but no collection 2, and vice versa for several places. When a manager sees that obi-wan is in a collection 1 case that's probably what he will order because who ever heard of Wat Tambor, or Coleman Trebor!

Man, I just hope this Clone Wars stuff don't end up like the Expanded Universe line which died after 9 figures. I, too, never understand why Hasbro would make 2 different lines for SW. You know one of them is going to tank. Why not just put all in one collection?? I can understand if its a transitional stage like the Flashback cards and the POTJ preview AOTC figures. But 2 lines might just be overdoing it. I'm sure it costs Hasbro some dough to print 2 different cardbacks. Well, here's hoping both lines will succeed. Hate to see either one sink down.

The April assortment in 2003 had some really awesome figures to offer. The new Lando was just an incredible figure, and Tessek was quite nice too. Even the Jar Jar was a nice piece, but most craved the new Imperial R2-Q5 droid.

3/01 - Darth Maul Sith Apprentice

4/01 - Lando Calrissian Bespin Escape
Tessek
R2-Q5 (Imperial Astromech Droid)

In theaters Tom Green is showing actors how to destroy their careers by releasing his film Freddy Got Fingered, and even Paul Hogan is making sure that Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles will keep audiences for wishing for another film in that series. Despite those lame-brain comidies Joe Dirt is winning popular opinion as is Bridget Jones Diaries. In music 2Pac's Until the End of Time is #2 in the charts in an attempt to claim the #1 spot.

I seem to recall getting Sith Apprentice Maul in some off-beat place, like either a Walgreen's or a CVS, possibly even at Ekherd's. That means I likely paid close to $8 for it! Lando, Tessek, and Jar Jar I probably got at Wal-Mart. R2-Q5 took me months to track down at retail! :frus: Finally found one at a K-Mart.

At this point, POTJ re-introduced the Expanded Universe concept by issuing figures based on concept art for TPM. Although the costumes would be EU, the character were not--thus it was the Maul we are familiar with from the film that had horns, and not the concept character that had feathers bound to his head with wire!

Although some collectors balked at this, because they wanted to see more background characters both from the OT as well as TPM added to the line, I liked the EU figures based on concept art. Considering that the McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper made it through as Fan's Choice Figure #4, I'd say that's a pretty good indication that there are other Concept Art fans out there.

I bought Darth Maul at a collectibles show for just a couple bucks more than retail, figuring he'd be tough to find at the time. He ended up warming the pegs at Suncoast for quite a while, so I was glad I didn't severely overpay.

I found Lando, Tessek, and Jar-Jar at a local Target, but no R2-Q5. A couple days later, I went to another Target about 20 minutes away, and found one sitting a few feet away from the rest of the SW figures.

The next wave consisted of one film figure, and two eu figs, and upon it's initial release the Sandtrooper was impossible to find. Within two months the fig would surface all over the place, but forget finding it initially.

5/01 - Sandtrooper Tatooine Patrol
Obi-Wan Kenobi Cold Weather Adventure
Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Armor

In Hollywood George Lucas is making a debate by challenging theater owners to obtain Digital projectors before his release of the next SW film, but theaters are not agreeing with him because to replace one screen's hardware would cost around $150,000. In theaters critics and media is making a big deal over THE ROCK in the Mummy Returns. You would think they believe he had acting talent or something.

The Sandtrooper drove me nuts. I went to store after store thinking that he was going to be with Leia and Chewbacca only to have no luck. One of my friends bought one right at the beginning of this month, and the figure was so nice I was drooling. Finally I got in touch with a contact that was a person of questional integrity but found and gobbled up any new figures he could find. I bought a Sandtrooper from him for $15, but then later found them with ease on the shelf a few months later. As for the EU figs, I totally passed on them. I am not an eu man!

The sandtrooper wasn't released until May? That makes me feel better since I didn't find him until July and only once at that. It was at an out of the way TRU. I didn't get extras of him until last year.

I bought the EU Obi Wan and Qui Gon at a buy one/get one free sale at KB.

2/01: Princess Leia (Bespin Escape); Chewbacca (Mechanic); Aurra Sing; Saesee Tin; Queen Amidalla (Theed Invasion); Bespin Freezing Chamber Playset with Bespin Guard (Star Wars Fan Club exclusive).

3/01 - Darth Maul Sith Apprentice

4/01 - Lando Calrissian Bespin Escape
Tessek
R2-Q5 (Imperial Astromech Droid)
Jar Jar Binks (Tatooine)

5/01 - Sandtrooper Tatooine Patrol
Obi-Wan Kenobi Cold Weather Adventure
Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Armor

Never purchased Leia Bespin, Chewie mechanic, Aurra Sing, Carbonite playset, Maul, JJB, or Obi and Qui-Gon. Obi was never on Hoth, Qui-Gon never wore armor(if he did he would of been in AOTC) JJB(dont like the character), Maul(just too many) Aurra Sing(never saw).

I never knew about the Lando until Jargo told me about it. I got one on Ebay for 14 including shipping. The rest I got from Wal-Mart.

Got all these 3 in one swift stroke. Love the Sandtrooper. Obi-wan looked good in Han's parka and Qui-gon looks like some 'conquistador' ready to go trick or treating. :D

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon I picked up at Wal-Mart that summer more on impulse. I don't really like either figure, but at the time I hadn't seen any thing new for a bit. The Sandtrooper eluded me for a long time. In fact he was one of the last POTJ figures I got. Ending up buying from JamsToys July of '02.

I had no trouble with these, picking up Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and a Sandtrooper from a comic shop in the mall where I worked at the time. I ended up getting a secong Sandtrooper a few months later at retail.

3/01 - Darth Maul Sith Apprentice--was not interested in this figure and never bought it...did see it at retail

4/01 - Lando Calrissian Bespin Escape--thought I'd never find this figure or this wave...finally found it at Wal Mart
Tessek--Wal Mart easy find
R2-Q5 (Imperial Astromech Droid)--started out as a VERY HARD figure to find at retail but I never gave up...eventually found it at Wal Mart
Jar Jar Binks (Tatooine)--did not buy this figure initially but later got it at wal mart

5/01 - Sandtrooper Tatooine Patrol--wal mart; easy find
Obi-Wan Kenobi Cold Weather Adventure--no interest...did see it
Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Armor--no interest...did see it

The hardest figure to find out of that group was R2-Q5. I love this figure though! I love the "holographic" death star accessory!

Found Obi and Qui-Gon at TRU in June '01, and found the Sandtrooper there a week later. Got another Sandtrooper in October '01 at Wal-Mart.

Can't remember about the Sandtrooper but it seems I saw the EU figures hanging around for a while. Maybe it was just at Suncoast.

I thought the EU figures were okay, but it would be nice if they had some of the characters from the X-Wing series of books or something like that.

Catching up a bit ...

10/00 - Qui Gon Jinn with Poncho
Princess Leia General
Sith Lords two pack: Darth Maul and Darth Vader
Never saw the Sith two pack, the other two I saw.

11/00 - Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knight)
Darth Vader Dagobah
Sebulba
Fode and Beed
Dagobah Vader I found, but I don't remember seeing many. Fode and Beed I don't remember ever seeing ... the others were easy enough.

12/00 - Han Solo Bespin Capture
Biker Scout
Battle Droid Boomer Damage
1/01 - Mon Calamari Officer
K-3PO
IG-88
Plo Koon
300th Edition Boba Fett
Han was easy. THe biker scout I saw once and passed on at the time ... and now kick myself. Skipped the battle droid. K-3PO I remember only seeing the time when I bought mine ... still don't have a loose one (wish it'd been in that Hoth set.) IG-88 I found easily enough. Plo Koon was easy. 300th Boba was a hard one ... I hadn't been seeing them at all, and then I hit a TRU right after they'd put them out. Score.

At this point my collecting became more and more (sometimes weirdly) selective. Picking up only the figures that I knew (or thought) that I'd have a hard time finding later if I really wanted them. I passed on a few good things that I wished I'd gotten ... and picked up a few things that later I realized I didn't need.

2/01 - Princess Leia (Bespin Escape)
Chewbacca (Mechanic)
Aurra Sing
Saesee Tin
Queen Amidalla (Theed Invasion)
Found/bought Chewy and Aurra ... skipped Leia. Saesee I saw once and passed (figured I'd get it later ... duh), but Amidalla I bought and only ever saw the one.

Oh man, Jaff ... what a bummer about the store. Worst of all, because it sounds like it was doing so well before "the trouble."

3/01 - Darth Maul Sith Apprentice
4/01 - Lando Calrissian Bespin Escape
Tessek
R2-Q5 (Imperial Astromech Droid)
Jar Jar Binks (Tatooine)
Maul I skipped, it was a nice figure, but I didn't need it. R2-Q5 I saw once and bought it ... would have really liked 2 of these. Tessek I found and bought and I love that figure! Lando ... I skipped this one ... I have no idea why I never got this figure. It's a complete mystery to me. I probably kept thinking, "oh, I'll get him next time" and then it was a year later or something. Duh.
Oh, and I skipped Jar-Jar ... I don't know if I ever saw it and I don't really care (stupid tonge.)

5/01 - Sandtrooper Tatooine Patrol
Obi-Wan Kenobi Cold Weather Adventure
Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Armor
Sandtrooper I found, opened and played with ... didn't see much of it after that. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon I found/bought, but later sold them ... again nice, but not something I really needed.

This whole year was a weird and gloomy one for me. We'd had two close and important family members pass away, so obviously my mind wasn't on the "toys" as much as in the past. As well, I could see the writing on the wall and knew that my own long standing job was coming to an unpleasant end. To make matters worse, the house we were living in (built in the '20s) started to fall apart around us. Weird times ... going to get more weird ... but it's nice to have the "hobby" as a distraction when things get ugly I suppose.

5/01: Sandtrooper Tatooine Patrol; Obi-Wan Kenobi Cold Weather Adventure; Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Armor.

Like a lot of the other posters to this thread, I found the two Jedi figures with relative ease, but didn't score a Sandtrooper til later that Summer.

Although the Qui-Gon figure was based on concept art for TPM, I was never sure where that Cold Weather Obi-Wan came from. Seemed more like an attempt by Hasbro at reviving off-screen concepts and extending the line beyond the scope of either the films or the video games. Maybe this was an unused concept for TESB? (Don't feel like having to go dig out my copy of The Art of TESB to confirm this! ;) )

At the end of summer we had some great stuff to get a hold of. Not only did we have two new vehicles that were never produced in the new POTF line, but we had a ton of new awesome figures. The Bespin Security Gurad has to be one of the greatest figures made to date. It was just glorious, and we finally got to get a hold of the first fan choice figure Ellorrs Madak!

6/01 - Dirty Biker Scout
Ketwol
Ellorrs Madak (Duros)
Bespin Security Guard
Sabe

7/01 - B-Wing Fighter with pilot (Target exclusive)

8/01 - TIE Interceptor with TIE pilot (Toys R Us exclusive)

In theaters Rat Race was not running very far in revenue while American Pie 2 was climbing the box office numbers. New to theaters was Captain Corellians Mandolin, and Rush Hour 2.

I found the Ketwol wave in Target one morning when I went to work in June. My SW friends were talking about this wave for weeks so I decided to buy them each one of these figs. I stored them in my trunk and I think the coolest thing about finding these figs was the reaction of my friends when they first saw these figs.

The Tie Intercepter was an easy find, but the B-Wing was not. After searching one of my friends (who I got the Ketwol wave for) called me and said that it was sitting at a Target two exits from my house. I rushed out and got it the day before my wedding, and I considered that piece one of my wedding gifts. Although that stupid Ten Numb fig annoyed me. I don't know why they couldn't have packaged a generic B-Wing pilot in the package or at least the Red B-Wing Numb Pilot.

On a side note did any of you who got the TIE Interceptor have a problem with the pilots head? Mine was extremely wobbly, and poorly put together!

LusiferSam

This wave wasn't to hard for me to find. I got all the figures but the dirty scout trooper (which I don't have) at Target around the same time I picked up the B-Wing. And I was lucky to get a B-Wing when I did because it was one of two on the shelves that day and after that I never saw another. The TIE Interceptor I order for ToysRUs/Amazon because I don't have a ToysRUs where I live now.

Fearing they'd be as rare and impossible to find as the previous vehicle exclusives, I picked up the TIE Interceptor and the B-Wing from dealers for inflated prices, only to find tons of them at TRU and Target, respectively, a week later. I also picked up a dirty Biker Scout from my usual dealer.

I ordered the 4 pack from Entertainment Earth of Ketwol, Duros, Bespin Guard, aaand SABE'....you left one out there, Jaff. :D

I've always wanted the vehicles since I don't have the vintage ones. So, I was just glad to be able to purchased both ships. Although at first, I paid 40 for the B-wing, I later returned it and bought another for 27 bucks when it was being clearanced. Later, it went down to 15 bucks, but the packaging is all destroyed. The TIE Interceptor had misshapen wing tips and to this day, it won't stay straight, but hey I can live with that. After all, this one sold out fast. The figures once again, I bought at Wal-mart in one 'swift stroke'. :D

I found Ketwol and the Security Guard at Target at the end of July along with Sabé. Duros I found at Target at the end of September. These seemed to hang around for a long time, especially Ketwol and the Bespin Guard. I bought a second Bespin guard in the middle of October. As I mentioned before, I only saw one biker scout at a K-Mart and it was damaged. I can't recall whether it was clean or dirty. Bought the dirty version this March from Brian's Toys.

Didn't plan on buying the vehicles, but saw the B-Wing in early September, so it had been over a month since I had found any new POTJ figures. When I'm going from store to store and not finding anything, I am likely to buy something else just to make all the running around worthwhile. Plus the B-Wing looked pretty cool in the window box and it came with a figure.

I got the TIE Interceptor middle of January '02. Once again, I hadn't been finding anything and this vehicle looked cool in the box (though not as cool as the B-Wing) and came with a figure.

Since I haven't opened either of them, I don't know if the head is wobbly on my TIE Pilot or not.

The basic figures weren't all that prevalant at first, but by the end of August I had the whole set--except for the Biker Scout (Dirty)! Duros and Sabe became the pegwarmers in my part of North Carolina, with collectors scooping up the Bespin Guards for army-building. I didn't bother with the B-Wing or TIE Interceptor, as they were too large for me to store. I never even saw the B-Wing at our Target here in Gastonia, and I heard that the Targets in Charlotte were selling out within minutes of getting them.

The basic figures were easy to find, with the exception of the biker scout. I found three one night at Target in late November, early December.

I remember, after reading about the B-wing's release, going out on a Sunday afternoon and hitting three Targets before finding it. Used the tax refund to buy it!

Can't remember if the TIE Interceptor was hard or not; I do have one.

As we are all anxiously awaiting Amanaman and Luke in Bacta, Hasbro decided to throw out a mainly rehashed collection of figures consisting of a new Luke, Han and Vader. For the most part this wave was popular, but only retained a two month shelf life until the FX-7 wave was released. The Collection 2 wave consisted of a one year overdue Shimi Skywalker, and a easily passed upon Obi-Wan Kenobi EU fig.

9/01 - Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot
Han Solo Death Star Escape
Darth Vader Emperor’s Wrath
Shimi Skywalker
Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Armor

In theaters it was slim pickings with Rock Star, The Musketeer, and Jeepers Creepers as the newest films of choice. Despite the film fare Rush Hour 2 and American Pie 2 still hangs onto their popularity in moviegoers minds.

The Luke, Darth, and Han were way easy finds. I just walked into Toys R Us the day I heard they were out, and whammo, instant finds. The Shimi was a completely other story. It took me a month to find her because she was only 2 to a case of 12 figures that most didn't want to buy. After a few visits to Wal-Mart at midnight I finally nabbed her.

The first time I saw any of these was at a Wal-Mart in Gafney, SC, but all they had left was Luke and Vader, so I snagged those. Closer to home, I found Han and Obi-Wan at Target, then finally got Shmi at TRU about two weeks later.

Vader, of course, was just amazingly cool. Luke looked kinda ... odd, but at least he wasn't Steroid Luke X-Wing anymore! Han was OK, and Obi-Wan was pretty decent for being based on an unused Ep. I concept sketch. Shmi was ... well, kinda boring, but at least it really looked like Pernilla August. I later snagged a second Vader, as I'm a big Vader fan and always try to get one for opening and one to keep on the card.

Found all of these plus Ellorrs Madak at Target at the end of September. Can't recall how easy they were to find after that. Seems like I saw Shmi hanging around in TRU as the Saga line started.

Just wondering, do you all have excellent memories to recall where and when you bought this stuff, or are you like me and keep records of what you bought? I have so many figures I couldn't tell you where or when I got most of them without the database I created. I also have my Quicken file, and even most of the receipts. I didn't keep the database at first so I don't know all the details on a lot of the POTF2 figures I picked up at Docking Bay 93. I know I bought them there because it says on the price tag, but I don't know when. The receipts are just generic register receipts.

I have to say that my severe nostalgia for Star Wars just makes me livid whenever I find something. I remember every single figure I bought, where I got it, round about when I got it, and how many funny looks I got from those who thought I was silly for being that way. Still, I like tracking figure release dates, case assortments and figure histories so each time they release something new I'm logging it into my personal collection memoirs.

That bucktooth Skywalker just didn't do it for me. And *** outfit Obi-wan is a close second. And Han Solo??? So what if he comes w/ a stormtrooper's belt??? Out of this wave, I bought only Shmi right away, though she looks a little short and pale compared to Pernilla August. I've had second thoughts about Vader. But even though that shock was negative fans of Star Wars were going ga-ga over the new November 2 premire trailer of Star Wars Episode II which was showing with the #1 box office film Monsters Inc. Also hot is K-Pax, and Shallow Hal. And on the music side of things trash princess Britney Spears is showing how shameless and talent-less she could be with her third teen-scream album: Jive!

I walked into my Bellevue Toys R' Us looking for the FX-7 wave (I heard that it would be released in November or December so I went weekly), and I was floored when I saw Luke in Bacta. I was really excited about finding it, and grabbed him eagerly. I could care less about Maul, and hunted for Amanaman and was a bit dissappointed. I soon learned that Amanaman was not in the case, and now I was worried because shelves were flooded with Luke in Bacta. If Luke and Darth Maul did not sell well than Amanaman would be hard to find because companies would not reorder new assortments of peg warmers. During a trip to visit my mother in Toledo, Ohio I snagged an Amanaman and Leia off the shelves at a Toys R Us, and did not see him that much thereafter. I didn't see Amanaman again until about six months ago as stores were starting to clear out overstock at discount prices. All in all Amanaman was not impossible to find, just not as easy as Luke Bacta!

10/01: Deluxe Luke Skywalker in Echo Base Bacta Tank; Deluxe Darth Maul with Sith Attack Droid. 11/01: Deluxe Amanaman; Deluxe Princess Leia with Sail Barge Cannon.

Found Bacta Luke and Shirtless Maul easily enough at Wal-Mart. Man, those Luke-in-the-Tank deluxes are still clogging clearance-aisle pegs at various NC/SC-area Wal-Marts, yet they're still priced at $9.96!

Amanaman was a TRU find, as was Leia. They disappeared pretty quick, and I never did see them at WM, although my local Target did get at least one shipment of them. Never saw these at K-Marts here in NC. Early in 2002, I picked up a few extra Mauls and Leias that were 1/2-price at KB. Still trying to decide on what customs I can do with those!

Bacta Luke I never saw in stores (odd isn't it). I got him from the Fan Club around April after they made their price reasonable again. Darth Maul I found at a Kee-Bees in December. Amanaman and Leia were easy finds. I picked both up at Target late January or early February. These I would see on shelves for months, but not Maul or Luke.

All these nekkid sets were easy finds. I forgot where I bought them, but I skipped the Leia set. Somehow, I don't feel the need to get another slave Leia. The Bacta Set is the best IMO. Darth Maul, eh, a shirtless version, what the heck. But I was a little disappointed w/ Amanaman, which was my favorite out of all the sets. I was hoping he would be taller than most figures, but sadly, no. Looks like the vintage one is larger than this newer version. As for Salacious Crumb, I really think he's an unnecessary accessory. It could've been something different. Maybe another one of Jabba's aliens.

Okay. All of these were pretty easy to find. I got Luke X-Wing and Han on Clearance at Wm for a dollar. Got Vader EW at K-Mart in Maryland on the way back from NYC one day. Dont remember where I got Shmi but I got her. No interest in Obi-Wan Jedi Armor.

The Deluxe I got. The Luke I paid full price for. I passed on the Maul, thought it looked absurd. Amanaman and Leia were gotten at Wal-Mart. I was there at like 1AM. I found a few cases of SW figures in the Barbie aisle. They were in there and it was the last Amanaman(the only one I ever saw at retail). The best part about them is they were clearanced for 2 bucks each.

I found the Luke X-wing and Han on clearance at Target a few days before Christmas; got a couple extras in my Christmas stocking.

Shmi and Vader were harder to find. I found one of each, and picked up a second Shmi this year from an online toy company. Still only have the one Vader; he's in my Death Star playset.

Amanaman was the hardest of the deluxe sets to find; finally ordered him from KB. Picked up extras on clearance.

There was allot of new figs in December 2001, and with Episode II right around the corner I was overjoyed that they were rushing out figs for us to keep the spirit alive. The FX wave was an awesome case with incredible availability, and although the Zutton case was fairly easy to find it only had two new figs. Whether you liked the Deluxe Anniversary figs or not they were not that hard to find, and only lasted about 4 months on the shelves.

12/01 - FX-7
Imperial Officer
Rebel Fleet Trooper
Sabe
Zutton

These were all very easy finds, and I got all of them at my local Wal-Mart. Even today I see the FX-7 assortment (2 years later), perhaps these figures were a little too easy to find after all!

Hmmm, December 2001 sure was a bumper-crop, wasn't it? Found the Imp, Rebel, and Sabe right off the bat. FX-7 and Eeth Koth within the first few days of the wave hitting my area. Zutton was really popular with collectors, so he took me about two weeks on hunting to find.

The Deluxe Anniversary sets were plentiful, but the Vader/Obi-Wan set just flew off the shelves. Despite the fact that these sets had figures with less articulation than normal, they were very popular--at first! Then, as the collectors had their fill, these soon became shelf-cloggers. Kids just weren't buying them! I bought my Vader/Obi-Wan set at Wally World for the full retail price ($14.97) that December, but ended up getting the Luke/Leia and Han/Chewie sets when TRU cleared these out roughly a year later at $9.99 (after they were originally selling them at $16.99!). From time to time, I'll still see a Luke/Leia set at TRU or WM, in the clearance aisles. (Then again, I found a POTF2 "Cantina Aliens" Cinema Scenes 3-pack at WM just last month, in the clearance bins, but still price-checking for $19.97!)

Other then the Anniversary figures (we should stop calling these ones figures, they're really not figures) I had little luck here. FX-7, the Imperial Officer, and Rebel Fleet Trooper I got from the Fan Club that Spring. Zutton and Eeth Koth I get from JamsToys late July of '02.
As for the Anniversary sets, I picked up Luke/Leia and Han/Chewie at Target in late December. Vader/Ben would take a bit longer, but I found them at Wal-Mart in early February.

Well it is now February 2002, and Episode II is just around the corner. With that known Hasbro has allready announced that it is changing it's packaging to blue, and figures will have new stances and accessories for their accessories. So to get the market ready for the new film Hasbro has just released the last of the POTJ figures. The last wave was severly rushed onto the shelves, and only had a shelf life for under two months. Although the case was packed with multiple new figs there really was not enough BoSheks to go around. Hasbro also pushed out the new exclusive TIE Bomber and Snowspeeder which were also hard to find mainly because everyone has been waiting for the TIE bomber since the early 80's. Also released around this time was the Toys R Us exclusive AT-ST walker with Speederbike and Paploo. Although originally not that hard to find it did become a rarity to find three months later. All in all being the last of the line these were all pretty much the rarest things to find in the POTJ line.

2/02 - Bo Shek
Teebo
R4-M9
TIE Bomber (Wal-Mart exclusive)
Snowspeeder with Luke and Dak Ratler (Wal-Mart exclusive)
AT-ST Walker with Paploo and Speederbike (Toys R Us exclusive)

In entertainment news the cast of Friends are whining for more money. Between the six of the cast members (Schwimmer, LeBlanc, Perry, Cox, Aniston, and Kudrow) they each make $750 per episode. Now they are demanding $1 million per episode. Even though Schwimmer and Kudrow don't want to be in the show they do buckle and take the money. That's real character for you! But if your looking for more hollywood character the media is going ga-ga over millionare Winona Ryder who is now going to trail for shoplifting. Hollywood sure does bring out the best, unless your going to the movies to see Hart's War, Big Fat Liar, and Snow Dogs. There are two saving graces though, and these movies are Obi-Wan Down (oops...I mean Black Hawk Down), and The Count of Monte Cristo.

I searched high and low for BoShek, and after seeing that it was a rare assortment I decided to just order them from a dealer rather than risk missing them. They cost me $15 bucks each and I still do not regret it one bit. I only saw Teebo and R4-M9 once with damaged packages.

The TIE Bomber, and Snowspeeder I found in one shot at Wal-Mart after work one day. I walked it, saw empty shelves and lowered my head in frustration. It was a month since they had been released. When I rose my head from the ground I saw them all sitting on the top of the sales shelves out of eye level from customers. I wrang up a customer service person and they had to get a ladder to bring it down to me. They seem a little flustered about it, but since I worked in retail I shrugged it off because if these items were placed somewhere where someone could reach them they would not need to get a ladder for me to get it.

The AT-ST walker was pretty easy to find and common. I got him while I was training a store director for Hollywood in Johnson City, Tennessee. I was hanging around my hotel in boredom, and my wife and I decided to go buy a board game at Toys R Us. Lo and Behold we found it with ease. Way cool!

Teebo and BoShek I saw at the same time. I only had enoughn for one of them, so I got Teebo, since my wife liked Ewoks and she wouldnt be upset if I bought a figure. :D. I went back for BoShek a few hours later and he was gone. Never to be seen by my eyes again. I was peeved.

Then one day while reading the trading forums, SK99 needed a Tusken w/child with no insert. I had one and said I would trade it for BoShek. He said no problem. A day later he emailed me and said he couldnt find him. ARGH...eluded me again. Then two days later he IM's me and says he found it. Nice. Thats how he made my sig line. :D

BoShek, Teebo and R4-M9 I found at Wal-Mart in March or early April. Got all three in one trip. The AT-ST I order from Amazon, but didn't get it until June (I think).
Now as for the TIE Bomber and Snowspeeder, I'm going to put my foot down say your date is wrong Jaff. I remember a discussion here in the Forums about this. A number people were writing that they couldn't find these. Then somebody let it drop that they wouldn't be out until 4/23/02 with the launch of the Saga line. Maybe Hasbro meant to release these in February or maybe some retailers jumped the gun, in any case I found mine on 4/23 just when I was told I would.

Never saw the BoShek wave in the stores. By the time the Saga line arrived, it was mostly the same pegwarmers that were still hanging around like Zutton and Bespin Guard and Ketwol. I eventually got BoShek, R4-M9 and Teebo in March '03 from Brian's Toys for less than $10 each. I got my AT-ST with Paploo on 4/23/02 as well. I don't think I saw the Snowspeeder. Surprisingly, I found the Bo'Shek wave with unexpected ease. When I first saw these in a toy mag, I thought, man, another hard to find wave. But they look nice. I must have them. So, like I always do when I see new stuff in the print, I projected 2 months before retail gets them. Heck, 3 days later, I found them. Woo-hoo!!! And Teebo wasn't that lonely after I got his companion and sometime rival, Paploo w/ the AT-ST and Speeder Bike. But Paploo look like crap. They put Wicket's head on Logray's body. I traded my first AT-ST (1995) for the Research Droids and a Beardless Endor Soldier.
TIE Bomber and Snowspeeder I both passed. Already got the first ones. And it did sucked when I found out the new Snowspeeder's electronic features were scrapped. ;)

Well, my wife was really excited to see Count of Monte Cristo when it was released the second week of February. I was not that excited to see it, so after I got out of work from my store in Franklin I stopped at a Wal-Mart a block away. It was one week after the release of Count of Monte Cristo, because she did not want to wait to see it. So I definately bought my TIE Bomber and Snowspeeder in February.

In different places things come out differently. Distribution is weird. On top of that some people may never see stuff get released. Right now Online dealers, and myself have the new Bail Organa wave. Some folks will say that the stuff isn't released until November or December when they start showing up on shelves! More than that there are some unfortunate folks out there who have yet to see 2003 figures. They might argue that the Wat Tambor Wave has not even been released yet. It all stems on how you look at it. My release dates are based on the following standards. #1 first time online dealers have them in stock. #2 When I bought them (I've been compilling this list since 1996). I only use my buy date as the month only if I never heard of it being out. The Sneak Peak figures for Episode II I remember being surprised that they were out. I got them in March, and so that's the month I used, because dealers and magazines did not TOTE that they had it in stock like they always do. #3. Magazine advertisements either through dealers, or Tomart's just released, Toyfare's, and lee's price additions and announcements. Lastly: Announcements of finds by fans of collecting. I say this is my last resource because right now you can go on Ebay and bid for the deluxe General Riekan. He will not officially be released for another month or so, but the person can say I got them, and it would appear that they are out. The Ebay sellers reguarly go through Hong Kong to get them early, or have back door channels. So trusting that stuff is found on someone's word is a last resourse for fact in my opinion. Technically we can say that Riekan is released during this month because it is on Ebay, but that would not fly with me. I guess it's all how you look at it.

Chances are you are right for your area. Your TIE Bomber did not come out until April where you are. Here in Elmira New York I have yet to see any wave of SW figures after the Ashla and Jempa figures. I have seen Clone Wars crap, but nothing else. Where I'm at I would say that the Wat, Waitress Droid waves have not been released yet. That's just not the way I look at it. Anyways hope this jargin has helped you to see how I compile my information.

In March there is just one more month to wait for the release of Episode II, and Hasbro has generously released a new Jedi Starfighter vehicle early, and 4 sneak peak figures. Since two of the figures were statues (Clone Trooper, Jango Fett), and two of the figures were neutral posed (Zam, and R3-T7) fans were split in their opinion of the figures. They really were not sure what to expect or think about the new accessory firing features, but they moved well enough to be completely off the shelves within two or three months.

3/02 - Sneak peak: Zam Wessell
Sneak peak: Jango Fett
Sneak peak: Clone Trooper
Sneak peak: R3-T7
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter

Our time capsule this month gives us the ability to go even farther back in time for those of us who were nostalgic over E.T.. The spielbergian representation of a wrinkly care bear alien is now back in theaters, and the month is equally exciting for Star Trek fans because Star Trek: The Next Generation has just come out on DVD. Season 1 was released on March 26, and costs a whopping $100. So if you want the whole series it's gonna cost $700. Also released in theaters at this time was Blade II, Ice Age, and the cheesy Resident Evil. In the news Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a deal to make Terminator 3, Conan 3, and a remake of Westworld. But now that he's governor and has stated that he will not do films anymore we are missing out on a new Conan! :frus:

I picked up the entire lot of Sneak Peak figs after driving home from Virginia after training some folks. It was 4 a.m., and for some reason I stopped at Wal-Mart. I was one of those fans who was worried after seeing the Sneak Peak figs. I did not like Jango or the Clone Trooper at all. They were statues, and I was worried that Hasbro was going to take the Eeth Koth route and make most of their figures unleashed-like 3 3/4. My worst fears would be realized in the next several months. The Obi-Wan Jedi Starfighter I got at Toys R Us, and I have to say that I liked the vehicle, especially the republic (Imperial) insignia painted on the craft. ;)

Still don't have a Jedi Starfighter. Looked like an item there would be plenty of to get on clearance later. I finally got the Slave I cheap at Fred Meyer, but never did get the Starfighter. I've seen the CW version recently, but the only place I have seen the old version lately is at a KB that is a little bit of a drive to get to. If they still have it the next time I go down there, I might get it.

I was writting a second page newspaper article for this event, as I had jazzed it up for my editor. I wanted to really enjoy the release of these figures, and wanted to document other fans enjoyment. So my editor approved my article, and I contacted stores seeing who was doing the Midnight release. Out of 7 stores in my immediate area I only found 1 store doing the event, and that was a Wal-Mart  . So I put my ducks in a row interviewed the store staff, and teamed with a news crew to cover the story. We started interviewing the staff putting up the figs, and I got to go behind the toy isle while they were setting everything up. I felt this guilty pleasure to the fullest peeking at the figs before the other folks. Then when they took the blocade down to let fans in I was sorely dissappointed to see about 10 people flowing into the isles. I interviewed many of the folks while my wife got one of every thing. When it was all said and done the Midnight deal was a real let-down. I was surprized at this because we will only have such an event one more time!

I put back a ton of figures from my wifes cart because they were either allready made or just plain sucked. These were the ones I did not get from the initial release. Battle Droid, Plo Koon, Saesee Tinn, and all the Deluxe figs. I was one of those fans dissapointed in the Episode II figs, half of them were statues that could not move, or could not stand, but I was real excited about getting some new figs. My price tag was over $300 that night, and even though the figures were a little dissappointing it was well worth it!

Midnight Madness 2 proved to be a bit more disappointing than the first one, in part because several figures were either short-shipped, or hoarded by employees. At TRU, I managed to get Anakin peasant, Padme, Obi-Wan, C-3PO, R2-D2, Kit Fisto, Jango, Geo. Warrior, Dexxter, Jar Jar, Nikto, Saesee, Super Battle Droid, Zam, Clone Trooper and Jar Jar. While on line, a guy asked me who I was missing, and then told his friend to give me one of the 2 Royal Guards he had, which was pretty cool. A rare case of collectors helping each other that night. Luminara and Taun We were also in less supply, so I didn't get any of them. I also picked up all the deluxe figures, but skipped on the speeders and still haven't gotten them. I initially skipped on the Reek and Slave I, but bough them in Wal-Mart on sale a month later.

Anyway, back to MM '03. At TRU, they had none of the Typho case, and people were saying that they hadn't been released yet. They DID have the Yoda case, but it was in shorter supply, or so we thought. At one point, an employee dumped a fresh case into a bin, and this "tough guy" (who was there with a local scalper) got in this kid's face for getting the figures first, accusing him of "knocking them out of his hand). The manager then refused to bring out any more figures, screwing the rest of us collectors because of two morons who SHOULD have been tossed out and not allowed to buy anything.

When I got home, I went to the SW site to try ordering the figs I missed, but only found Typho for sale. Thinking this was released early, I quickly ordered it for $3 more than it would have cost me in the store. The next morning, I went to Target at 6am, and sure enough, they had the wave everyone in TRU said wasn't out. I picked up Boba, Shaak Ti, Plo Koon, and Typho (so I have two, one to pose with the helmet on, one without). After that, I headed over to KB. They had already been opened a couple hours, but had alot. Like Target, no evidence of the Luminara case. However, while looking on the floor under the lowest pegs, I found Hangar Anakin and Yoda. looking under another fig, I found the one everyone wanted - DOOKU! SUCCESS! Now I wouldn't have to pay the ridiculous prices the dealers were charging.

I did manage to get Taun We and Luminara a few weeks later. I found an open case on the floor at KB, and there they were inside.

I thought it was odd that one store didn't have all of the AOTC figures. You had to go to at least two to get the entire wave.

I didn't do midnight madness this time around. I stopped on the way into work early the next day to Wal-Mart and bought the first Jango Fett. Also picked up the TIE bomber and crashed snowspeeder the same day, which were bigger finds to me. :)

2/02: Bo Shek; Teebo; R4-M9; TIE Bomber (Wal-Mart exclusive); Snowspeeder with Luke and Dak Ratler (Wal-Mart exclusive); AT-ST Walker with Paploo and Speederbike (Toys R Us exclusive).
all of the saga figures, all of the sneak preview figures.

Most of this stuff was easy to find. I did not buy the AT-ST or snowspeeder but I had my chances to get them. All of the figures mentioned were easy to find. For a while I had trouble getting a Luminara Unduli figure, Anakin hangar duel, Yoda jedi master, and the royal guard. I eventually found everything at retail stores.

Went shopping after work on 4/23. Went to Wal-Mart first since i figured the prices would be lowest there. Found 17 figures and the 4 deluxe figures. Went to Toys R Us next and found Taun We, Luminar Unduli, Jar Jar, Saesee Tiin, Nikto and Royal Guard, as well as the AT-ST with Paploo. I passed on all vehicles at this point, and still never got the speeders. Later, I got extras of Battle Droid, Super Battle Droid, Geonosian and Royal Guard, and two extra of the Clone Trooper.

I did not find Dexter or the Geonosian so I ordered them from the fan club the next week. I did not find Yoda until 5/18/02 with Dooku at TRU.

The Reek didn't really interest me until after I got the Nexu and I saw the Arena Playset. I figured if I got that and the other two beasts, I could make a cool scene with that. So I found the Reek and Slave I on sale at Fred Meyer on 6/11/03, but then I couldn't find the Arena set anymore.

What a great day (unless you were my bank account). I first went to Wal-Mart and got most everything. The exceptions were Dexter, Jar Jar, SaeSee Tinn, the Geonosian Warrior, and Slave 1 (I that's it) which I got at K-Mart. Count Dooku is the one that escaped me that day (and for months to come). Having got all but Dooku I skipped Target. Dooku I'd end up getting from JamsToys in July. I'd see Dooku only one time at Wal-Mart in late September. The other figures were all pretty easy to come by. The exception was Yoda. I saw one Yoda that day and I've not seen another one on shelves since. What a great day (unless you were my bank account). Midnight Madness 2002 was NBD around here. I don't recall if the local TRU or KayBee even bothered with it, and Wal-Mart had like 5 people specifically waiting on the toys. As if 1999, I passed on the midnight mediocrity and picked up stuff from TRU, WM, K-Mart, and KB later that day. Found all the figures except Yoda and Count Dooku. Picked up maybe ten that day, got the rest over the next few weeks. Finally found a Yoda about two weeks after MM, and got a Dooku just about a week after AOTC opened in theaters. Picked up the deluxe Dooku, even though that Force-flipping stuff was retarded. Passed on all the vehicles and the rest of the deluxe stuff.

Episode II is now out in theaters, and coinciding with the movie is a ton of new figures. Surprising enough less than a week or two of the 4/23 release of figures a new wave with Mace Windu, Jango Fett, Luke and Vader were all ready in high circulation. The Count Dooku was something of a problem though. Fans were screaming for this figure and although it was not understood why he wasn't released with the initial wave of figures, it was understood that he had supply problems. The figure was constantly complained about because many could not find him. Rumors were abound that Dooku was released in a April/May assortment with Clone Troopers, Anakins, Yoda and Zam Wesell, and these rumors turned out to be true. The problem was that Dooku was only 1 new fig in a case of 12 figures that did not move off the shelves. Distributors rightly backed off of this case and skipped to purchase the Luke case instead. The Count Dooku figure was never really addressed by Hasbro, instead they decided to release another Dooku in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Acklay Battle wave in early 2003. No matter how you felt about the distribution of Dooku, the Orn Free Ta/Palpatine waves were easy for all of us to find. Djas Purh, and a New poodle haired Qui-Gon were everywhere, including a new version of a Endor Soldier!

5/02 - #27 Count Dooku Dark Lord
#28 Mace Windu Geonosian Rescue
#29 Luke Skywalker Bespin Duel
#30 Darth Vader Bespin Duel
#31 Jango Fett Final Battle
#32 Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Master
#33 Endor Rebel Soldier with Beard
#34 Massiff with Geonosian Handler
#35 Orn Free Ta
#39 Supreme Chancelor Palpatine
#40 Djas Puhr

Spider Man was making big Box office numbers when Star Wars came out, and another winner (or looser IMO) was the Scorpion King. On television Friends grabbed the high ratings when Rachel was giving birth.

I didn't even try to find Count Dooku on shelves. I just ordered him through a dealer. I only saw this fig on shelves once at a Wal-Mart several months later during the 4th quarter.

The Luke wave really got me aggrivated. One night after a friend of mine left town I had this strange midnight desire to drive 4 exits away to a Wal-Mart in Dickson, Tennessee. I followed my hunch and when I got there I saw a dirty looking woman who was overweight stocking shelves. In the SW section I saw a bunch of new cases of SW figures unopened and she walked up to me. At this point I hadn't touched the cases out of respect and asked her if I could snag a few out of the cases. "They'll be on the shelves in an hour!" She said hatefully. Maybe because she was so rude and ugly she was taking it out on me, but she obviously had a problem with me. "I'm sorry?" I said in confusion. She responded by saying. "I'm taking my break now, and when I get back they will be finished." I decided to ignore the conversation and walked away to find someone else to help me. When I came back two minutes later with a person willing to help she was gone. He happily opened them up for me and I snagged up 2 bloody stump Lukes and 2 Darths, and 1 Jango. I passed on the Mace cause he looked stupid. Do any of you like that innacurate Mace? I never complained about the PMS lady who refused to help me. I guess I should have, but we all have bad days, maybe she was having one of them. Despite her attitude my find made my day great.

As for the Orn Free Ta, Djas, Palpy, Massif, and Endor Soldier I found easily. The Palpy is still one of the best Saga figs released to date IMO. The Qui-Gon I passed on until someone gave me one for free. This wave, like the Luke wave was everywhere to find.

I forget just when these started showing up in NC, but I'm pretty sure AOTC had been released by then. You pretty much could not find all figures in this wave in one store at one time. Collecting became a true hunt, with people going on "toy expeditions" to far away toy stores, once their normal retail sources were exhausted. At this time, many frustrated collectors turned to online retailers for the first times in their lives.

I remember finding the Bespin Vader in a Wal-Mart nearby, then finding Bespin Luke down in South Carolina. Count Dooku was still pretty scarce, although a surprisingly good source for them ended up being K-Mart--who also got in cases with the rare (in this region, anyway) Yoda Jedi Master figure. The others would be picked up in 2's or 3's at TRU, Target, and KayBee.

Of course, the issue with Bespin Luke soon became getting all the variations. There was "magnet hand" Luke, "bloody hand" Luke, and "peg hand" Luke. Got the former and the latter, but "bloody hand" has evaded my grasp to this day!

I got Dooku at KB the morning after Midnight Madness. I bought Luke, Vader, Mace, Jango, and Oorn Free Taa from a dealer, but managed to Find Qui-Gon, Masiff, and Endor Soldier at Target. Palpy and Djas Puhr I also bought from the dealer. I was very disappointed in myself, as these figures all became very easy to find at retail within a month.

Found Dooku at TRU in mid-May along with Yoda. Only time I saw them for quite a while. Found Mace and Jango at Target in early June, and Qui-Gon, Endor Soldier, Massiff and Orn Free Ta at Wal-Mart 3 days later. Found Vader and Luke at Wal-Mart on my birthday (6/16). I forget which version of Luke I have. Not the bloody one I'm pretty sure. Didn't find Palpatine and Djas Puhr until July 6.

When figures became hard to come by early this year, I would check Fred Meyer, which I don't normally go to. Every time I went in there, they had tons of Orn Free Ta's and some Royal Guards. A second Fred Meyer opened this summer, and they had lots of them there too.

I eventually bought an extra Massiff and Endor Soldier. My Geonosian warrior with the Massiff has trouble staying up, but I'm never around to see him fall.

My Toys R Us put out the Saga toys in the afternoon of 22/4/02 - and they had them all except for Shaak Ti - she appeared a few weeks later.

It was pretty easy tracking down all the Saga figures for last year, then I had to switch to online retailers for this year, but am keeping up to date just.

I'm going to do two months this post because as my signiture suggests I have a new thread that I'm creating and it is taking allot of my time right now. In comparrison to this thread which started 2 months ago, the new thread will probably go on over a year! However when 8/02 hits we will be back to the one month schedule. June and July boasted allot of new figures, and many fans stated that allot of the new figs were junk. The Han Solo Endor Raid had belt variations that made him semi popular, finally we were given another podracer and the Cloud City Chewie was great as was the Deluxe Nexu. Also dealers were now offering two troop builder sets consisting of Endor Soldiers and Stormtroopers. Target slammed out four great accessory sets giving many the chance to obtain the coveted Death Star Trooper, and the ability to build their armies even more! And lets not forget one of the coolest Beasts ever made for SW: The Acklay!!!!!

6/02 -
#37 Han Solo Endor Raid
#38 Chewbacca Cloud City Capture
#36 Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Starfighter Pilot
Stormtrooper Troop Builder set (Dealer exclusive)
Deluxe Nexu
Deluxe Anakin Skywalker with Geonosian Warrior

7/02 -
#42 Darth Maul Sith Training
#43 Anakin Skywalker Tatooine Attack
#44 Ki-Adi Mundi
#46 Teemto Pagalies
Endor Rebel Soldier Troop Builder set (Dealer exclusive)
Endor Victory Accessory Set with Biker Scout (Target exclusive)
Hoth Survival Accessory Set with Hoth Rebel Soldier (Target exclusive)
Death Star Accessory Set with Death Star Trooper (Target exclusive)
Arena Conflict Accessory Set with Battle Droid (Target exclusive)
Deluxe Yoda with Super Battle Droid
Deluxe C-3PO with Droid Factory
Acklay

In theaters Road to Perdition was new while Men in Black 2 and Minority Report were making big bucks! Unfortunately by this time Star Wars II was loosing it's box office clout! This was a tremendous surprise as the classic films usually held in about 8 months in charts, and Episode One lasted till September. Makes you wonder how Ep III will do. Regardless of that I'll be in line!!!!

All of the Blister single figs were a dime a dozen. I completely passed on Obi-Wan Starfighter Pilot (poor figure), Darth Maul (EU), and Ki-Adi (rehash). I also passed on teh Deluxe Anakin, Yoda and C-3PO. I was really sad about 3PO because the Battle Droids are way too Dark Red. The Droids are red sand color, not blood color! I bought two of the Accessory sets: Biker Scout and Death Star Trooper, but passed on the other two. As for the builder sets I bought the Stormtroopers from Brian's Toys near February of 2003 when I got my Imperial Shuttle. Pretty much everything released was way easy to find with the exception to the Nexu and Acklay. It took me three weeks to find the Nexu on the shelves and I only saw it once. I got the Acklay around October in Wal-Mart. It was the last one on the shelf with a damaged box!!! I never saw it on shelves again!

Saw all of these at retail, except the Trooper Builder Set, of course. Skipped on the Nexu, just didn't interest me. Had the hardest time finding Chewbacca, as it was just a really neat figure. Deluxe Ani was kinda weird-looking, but was scarce at first. Today, he's still warming pegs at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter on S. Tryon Street in Charlotte.

7/02: #42 Darth Maul Sith Training; #43 Anakin Skywalker Tatooine Attack; #44 Ki-Adi Mundi; #46 Teemto Pagalies; Endor Rebel Soldier Troop Builder set (Dealer exclusive); Endor Victory Accessory Set with Biker Scout (Target exclusive); Hoth Survival Accessory Set with Hoth Rebel Soldier (Target exclusive); Death Star Accessory Set with Death Star Trooper (Target exclusive); Arena Conflict Accessory Set with Battle Droid (Target exclusive); Deluxe Yoda with Super Battle Droid; Deluxe C-3PO with Droid Factory; Acklay.

Sith Training Maul was the hardest to find of the basic figures, while Ki-Adi-Mundi and Teemto Pagalies were plentiful. Only ever managed to find the Arena Conflict set in the Target exclusives. Got a Deluxe C-3P0 at Target, but I never saw Deluxe Yoda anywhere at retail. Of course, I never saw the Endor Troop Builder set, either, but I wasn't interested in it (or the Stromtrooper set).

Around this time, I finally broke down and got the Deluxe Mace Windu and Deluxe Jango Fett, too.

I found Han, Chewie, and Obi-Wan in one shot at KB. Found them sitting on the floor and couldn't believe my luck. The packages were a little smashed, but since I open them, it didn't matter. I got the Nexu and Anakin at Target, and ordered the Stormtrooper set from the Fan Club.

Tatooine Anakin and Maul I ordered online, as well as Deluxe C-3PO and Yoda, and the Acklay (which was the only one of these I never, to this day, have seen at retail). With a couple weeks, I managed to find all four accesory sets at Target. I picked up Ki-Adi Mundi and Teemto from my usual dealer, but skipped the Endor Trooper set altogether.

Now we're really getting into the stuff I've had trouble with. Han and the accessory sets I found in August at Target, a Super Target to more specific. Ki-Adi and Teemto I got at K-mart in early January of these year. The Nexu and Deluxe Anakin in late september and Deluxe Yoda and 3PO in late January all at Target. And the Acklay I picked up at Wal-Mart in September also. I've skipped the 4 pack of Stormtroopers and Rebels because one I'm not an army builder and two $20 for figures that I already have is a bit too high. The rest Chewie, Darth Maul, Starfighter Obi-Wan and dark side Anakin I have yet to see or buy.

Early December I found the Arena Conflict, Hoth and Death Star Accessory sets, and a couple weeks later I got the Endor one. I got an extra Death Star and Hoth set. Finally found Teemto at Target in early January '03.

Never did see the Acklay. Bought him a little over a month ago from Brian's Toys in C-7/8 condition for $15. I didn't care if the box was damaged on this one.

I was considering getting the Stormtroopers from the Fan Club as they had a buy 4 sets get one free deal. I never did order them though. I didn't realize that the other trooper builders were dealer exclusives. I kept seeing them listed at Brian's Toys but couldn't find them listed at the Fan Club. I guess the Stormtroopers were the only ones they carried. I haven't got any of the other trooper builder sets either.

Well the Summer is over, and as we are all eagerly awaiting the release of Ephant Mon who was pictured on the back of Teemto's blister card. So where is the big fat elephant dude? Well he is not in the August assortment either. A new impressive wave was released this time with a new pilot padme (nice fig), Lott Dodd (after two years of waiting since it was announced), and Watto! Hasbro also released the Massiff with it's correct figure, the Tuskin, and a new Endor Rebel Soldier with no beard. Also released were two vehicle Toys R Us exclusives that were really the best representations these vehicles have ever had. August also introduced a whole new Star Wars line based on the Disney Star Tours ride!

8/02 - #33 Endor Rebel Soldier (with no beard)
#41 Padme Amidalla Coruscant Attack
#50 Watto Mos Espa Junk Dealer
#51 Lott Dodd
#52 Tusken Raider with Massiff
Dagobah X-Wing with R2-D2 and suplies (Toys R Us exclusive)
Landspeeder with Luke Skywalker (Toys R Us exclusive)
Star Tours: DL-X2 (Disney exclusive)
Star Tours: G2-4T (Disney exclusive)
Star Tours: R3-D3 (Disney exclusive)
Star Tours: R4-M9 (Disney exclusive)
Star Tours: RX-24 (Disney exclusive)

In theaters Teenage girls were shown how meningless problems based on maturity can become a major issue in Blue Crush. Robin Williams was shocking folks with his character in One Hour Photo, and audiences bowed to the stupidity stylings of Vin Diesel in XXX. On TV CSI and American Idol are fetching ratings and the Dixie Chicks have surfaced again with a new album called Home.

In August 2002 my wonderful baby girl named Destiny was born on August 26th. Naturally knowing that my daughter was coming I hunted for all the new figs so I would be caught up before she was born. The Endor Rebel Soldier I could not find anywhere. I ended up getting him three months later thanks to him being repacked into the Ephant case. The Padme, Watto, Lott and Tusken were easy finds. These would clog shelves everywhere for the next year! The X-Wing and Landspeeder were also fairly easy finds, I still adore the Landspeeder, and that X-Wing is nice too. As for the Star Tours I passed. As Austin Powers would say: That stuff "was not my bag baby!"

ow I have some catching up to do. I found alot of the figures at Wal-Mart. Some I had toi get on line(Teemto and Ki-Adi) paid 13 dollars with shipping for both of them. I passed on the deluxes, dont really care for them too much. Star Tours I dont collect either and its not by choice, I just dont want to pay scalpers their prices for em. The Darth Maul I never saw at a regular retailer, but I actually found him at a CVS and purchased him there. The 2 exclusives I didnt get either. I dont have the no beard variant. Never saw him and really dont care to get one really.

Found the Landspeeder in mid August. Saw plenty of them around for a while. Got the X-Wing a month later. Didn't see as many of them.

Found Padmé in late October. This figure and Jango Pilot hung around on the pegs in great numbers around here well into 2003. TRU sent their basic figures back and finally got new stuff in. Now I see more Padmé Coruscant Attack figures there again.

Found Watto at TRU in early November. Early January '03 I found Mr. No Beard, Lott Dodd and the Tusken at Target. Got duplicates of No Beard and Tusken in April.

I ordered Padme, Lott Dodd, Tuskin/Massif, and Watto online. Also ordered Ephant Mon online, for only $15 since the card was damaged. Since I open my figures, and never saw him in stores, it was worth it. The Beardless Rebel Soldier I picked up from my local dealer, thinking this would be tough to find. Since then, I've seen both versions several times.

I picked up the Landspeeder at TRU, since it wasn't a total rehash, but was actually redone. I was tempted to pick up the X-Wing, but being the same exact toy as the electronic version I already have, I decided against it. $40 bucks was too much to pay just to get a different R2 figure. I considered picking it up if it ever went on clearance, but surprisingly, it never did.

As for the Star Tours figures, since I have no plans of going to DisneyWorld, I didn't even bother. $15-$25 a figure online was just way too much for these non-movie toys.

8/02: #33 Endor Rebel Soldier (with no beard); #41 Padme Amidalla Coruscant Attack; #50 Watto Mos Espa Junk Dealer; #51 Lott Dodd; #52 Tusken Raider with Massiff; Dagobah X-Wing with R2-D2 and suplies (Toys R Us exclusive); Landspeeder with Luke Skywalker (Toys R Us exclusive); Star Tours: DL-X2 (Disney exclusive); Star Tours: G2-4T (Disney exclusive); Star Tours: R3-D3 (Disney exclusive); Star Tours: R4-M9 (Disney exclusive); Star Tours: RX-24 (Disney exclusive).

Got most of the basic figures at WM fairly soon after initial release, except for Lott Dodd and Coruscant Attack Padme. I guess I really lucked into the beardless Endor trooper, because I know people that are still looking for him to this day. Got Lott at a WM in York, SC, and finally found Padme at a Target in Charlotte. A few weeks later, and that Padme would become a pegwarmer for the next 6 months!

Didn't bother with the Dagobah X-Wing or Landspeeder with Luke Skywalker, although I still see the Landspeeder at the occasional TRU. Wasn't interested in any of the Star Tours stuff, as I've never been on the ride.

Lott Dodd and Watto I found at K-Mart in January. The Tusken Raider and Rebel Soldier I got at Target. Late January I believe, because these were some of the last figures I've found. I ordered the X-wing and Landspeeder from Amazon/TRU.com. Dispute ordering them at the same time, one came early August, the other late August. The Star Tours stuff I've skipped. Reason one is these figures hold little interest for me, not really in the films. Reason two is I have no easy way to them, I'm not going to a pay jacked up price for them.

In October after two months of false releases Ephant Mon finally made it, although some of us can claim otherwise since they have never seen him in a store ever. Preceding the Ephant wave was the ever popular Jango Fett Slave I Pilot wave which can still be found in almost every store in the country. The problem with the blister card figs were the case assortment issues. Hasbro thought to repack old figures in cases for the holiday season but the problem was nobody wanted the repackaged figures. Shelves began to clog and caused a major drought (just as it was caused in 2000 i/e episode I figs). Even today the effects of the drought is still in full effect in some places. The Ephant figure was the worst problem of any case to date. Ephant was the only new figure in the case and that was a ridiculous action. Not only did many dealers and retailers pass on this case because it only had two new figs with a case of useless figures that would stagnate their shelves, but it made the most anticipated figure of 2002 to be one of the most difficult figure to collect in the entire Star Wars line!
Also at this time Wal-Mart released it's overly produced Cantina bar Sets. Had these sets been released in a more limited quantity the second wave would have been a Wal-Mart exclusive. Instead these clogged shelves to, and many retailers were feeling the frustration caused by Hasbro's marketing.
One nicely produced item was the Republic Gunship and Geonosian Battle Arena Playset. These two items were not overly produced, and was recieved and purchased with great enthusiasm.
The Deluxe figs were the only thing out of the group that was generally under-produced like Ephant, but was not impossible to find. The Kay Bee exclusive Jedi Starfighter was an item of intense disinterest by many collectors, thus Kay Bee dropped the Slave I exclusive because the Jedi Starfighter and Slave I had nothing new to offer collectors.
The most debatable item of October besides Ephant was the Toys R Us exclusive R2-D2 silver anniversary figure. Customers who purchased Star Wars figs would recieve one of these nifty figs while supplies last but many Toys R Us did not give them out, or gave several out. In the end there was major inconsistancies and many collectors missed out on this one.

In theaters Hannibal was back in Red Dragon. Sweet Home Alabama wooed lovestruck ladies, while the Tuxedo was toting Jackie Chan's cinematic style. In the news it is announced that Anthony Hopkins is going to play the roll of Jor-El in the new Superman movie. Director Brett Ratner does not yet have a Superman, but he's working on it.

In September my family moved to Elmira New York to be close to her side of the family, and although this was a good thing, it was really bad for my collecting habits. The stores in Elmira were very poorly managed with a low standard. Bare shelves and dirty corners are not uncommon here, and soon I would be unable to buy almost anything up here. Since I moved here I have only seen about 30 items out of the 100+ items released from 10/02. Thank god I knew some dealers personally or I would be bankrupt today!
The Jango, Clonetrooper, Cantina sets, Gunship and Arena Playset were way too easy, in fact too common to find on shelves. During my move I ordered a Gunship and the Deluxe Clonetrooper from a dealer as I did not want to miss it if it was rare. If I just waited I would have paid less and found it on shelves easily. Unfortunately sometimes we pay more than what we should. The Silver Anniversary R2 I never got, and wished I had. I learned about the figure many months after it was offered and remembered that my Toys R Us never offered it. I went in and asked a manager if they ever had such items and the response was: "No, I don't think we ever had them!" Right, in a pigs eye!

Ephant was the worst memory of figure hunting ever. I hit stores weekly, for the next two months looking for this fig and found nothing. I found plenty of figures in his wave. The truth was at this time if you saw a Beardless Endor Soldier there was a 75% chance Ephant came in that case. Finally on Christmas day my wife gave me Ephant Mon as a present. Apparently she found him a month before at Kay Bee. It was the best gift I got last year. Later I ordered another Ephant to have carded and paid $29 for him. Sure it was steep, but well worth it. I must have one of these figs carded to display with no regrets!

I didn't find Ephant Man until Feb. 2003. The others were easy to find. Found the clone bike trooper once in the store and grabbed it, bent card and all.

I waited until KB had the Jedi starfighter with Obi Wan for $5 in the spring.

Picked up extras of the cantina sets on clearance.

I ordered Jango and the Clone Pilot online as a set of three, along with Naboo Pilot Padme (missed another one there, Jaff ;) ). I managed to get an Ephant Mon from the same online store with a damaged package, which didn't bother me since I opened it when I got it. Also ordered the three delux figures as a set online.

The Cantina Set I bought from my dealer, but to this day I'm sorry I did. I've considered selling them, but since they are either super rare, or overflowing (depending on your area), I doubt I'd get more than 10-20 for the set. So, why bother.

I held off on the Gunship for a while, but caved in when the silver R2's came out. After wasting $10 + shipping to get one off amazon (figuring these would be gone in 10 minutes at my TRU), I went in to find tons of them. Ended up getting a second R2 with my gunship, and also bought 3 more Clone pilots over the next 2 weeks to properly fill the pilot and gunner seats. Incidentally, the Silver R2's lasted about a week at my TRU, shocking considering the large scalper/hoarder/ store manager with her own store problem there.

I skipped the Geonosian playset, Jedi Starfighter, and WEG-1618 altogether.
