View Full Version : 3 Great White Sharks off the coast of San Diego!

That's right Flesh and Bones,

We have the confirmed sightings, photos, and video taping of 3 Great White Sharks right off the coast about 40 minutes from where I live.

Their range could put them in my local waters in a matter of minutes.

There's 2 juveniles at about 6-7 feet, and a parent (?) of about 15-17 feet.

In the movie, Jaws was about 30 feet.

They think the scent of a dead whale that was buried on the beach 2 years ago, draws them back each year now.

There was an attack that killed a middle-aged woman a few many hours north of here, but it was not thought to be purpetrated by "our sharks."

Surfers yesterday went out in the waters anyway and got pretty close. Today, the waters were pretty much deserted of humans.

Some jet skiers tried to get close too, but the Coast Guard is ordering them away. They don't want the sharks angry or agitated.

The sharks normally would hunt in deep waters, but they are so close to the surface, that US Marines have been asked by the Coast Guard not to do fly-bys over the sharks (how some of the video footage was obtained).

A private helicopter went down 2 days ago, not in exactly the same area, but further south. The pilot and most of the helicopter has not been found. The sharks are being monitored by specialists, and they have not been spotted near the crash area, but they are being closer monitored now than at the time of the crash.

Great Whites are an endangered species, and hunting one that has posed no harm to man, is illegal.

The threat to man might become apparent all too soon, as these sharks are hunting. That's what they do. They will stalk and kill. Surprisingly, they have not found our seal reserve in La Jolla, which has quite a population on a politically disputed beach that seals have taken away from residents.

There the patriarch seal has been quoted telling San Diegans, "Humans, get the hell off my beach!"

Well, the sharks might ask him for any last words before my City Council does.

I love living in a coastal town...

Sweet. Sharks are cool. If I could be any animal it would probably be a shark. Swim, eat, kill, poop repeat. What a life

:D Man, the word poop makes me laugh everytime. :D

As we all learned from the Jaws documentaries, always carry a pressurized scuba tank and a rifle and you can defeat even the mightest shark!

Isn't Great White the band that burnt down that club, killing 100 people several months back in Rhode Island?

Once bitten, twice shy baby..........

Yeah, that woman was killed up near us just north of Zuma. We were down there last Saturday and people were in the water with no problem. I occasionally see dolphins and even pods of killer whales but never a shark. Let's keep it that way.

I've never seen pods of wild killer whales! Where was this?

They can eat people, too. I'm not sure how often that happens (killer whale attacks). Does anybody know?

A few years ago a video made the news. A huge Great White Shark stalked a killer whale pup with it's mother. The shark and mother whale were the same size. The pup ducked under it's mother when the Great White made its move and BOOM! She pivoted and bit the Great White in half nearly, jumping with it in her jaws and slamming it down dead, her full weight landing on top of it.

The crew filmed the mother and baby eating the Great White Shark after the sudden turn of the tables, predator becoming prey. The water was so blood red - the spill was huge!

You can buy this video in one of those animal series now. I wish I knew which one.

dun dun....dun dun..dundundundundundundundundundundundundundundun dun dududu....yeah, we know how it goes. :crazed:

This has to suck for those who enjoy the water, but i have nothing but the upmost respect for these creatures (damn you discovery channel!!) Seriously, sharks are bada--, perfectly designed creatures.

I was watching that special on the discovery channel, "Anatomy of a bite" about sharks and they have a video of a woman getting attacked by a great white shark. The video is sketchy at timse cause the guy attempts to help, but you hear the womans screams and it's really haunting. she just lost a leg, so she was lucky.

It also said if you see a shark, to not really move around in the water and in fact, make your body as perfectly straight as you can, so your feet are underwater and your body isn't longways on the water (that make sense the way i put that?) cause a shark isn't used to that and might leave ya alone.

I hope swimmers beware though, cause this might be a problem, a problem that they won't recongnize until it swims up and bites them in the a--!! (sorry, had to quote Jaws SOMEWHERE in there) :D

LOL

I really don't even want to fathom what it's like to get taken down by a shark. You can bet that if i was getting eaten, i'd release everybody fluid, excrement and gas to try to give this shark a bad taste. :crazed:

oh boy...shark attacks again. i saw that "anatomy of a shark bite" too. very powerful creatures..i would be more worried about a tiger shark than a great white. the tiger shark has better teeth and can cut through things clean. good thing i usually don't go in the ocean if i am at one...i just goof off on the sand.

Anybody remember the cartoon where 4 guys were changed into various species of shark. They lived on land, walked upright and I believe they even rode motorcycles. I have the toy of the one I believe it's the great white wearing a Leather jacket and jeans.

Yep, that sounds like it. I wish I had kept the box the figure came in. I think it had plastic prison like bars. I've never seen the butt ugly martians except in their toy incarnation.

Why does someone want to swim on a beach anyways? It's crazy.. either gimme a swimming pool with clear water or a nice Navy seal Mp5 or Sig-552 and I'll go in. >_< Stupid people.. maybe the Coast Guard should let those people go in the water, less idiots for us! :D
