Hey!

Is anyone around here interested in soccer? Or better yet does anyone play?

I play for a team in Melbourne called Riversdale JSC, we're coming 3rd in our league :) I'm the captain of our team and we're pretty good except for a few players that kinda let the team down...My friend and I tried out for the Victorian State team and got to the final try-out of 60 players, but unfortunately we didn't get in :( anyone else play at a high level (i.e. state, superleague, nationals etc.)?

Or anyone want to talk about teams, player etc? I follow Manchester United, who are awesome! How cool is Cristiano Ronaldo! Chelsea's spending spree is getting them a brilliant team, I think they're almost on par with man u...and how about Liverpools season so far! From what i've seen they've been pretty shocking, but this weekends 3-0 win will surely boost their spirits...Sorry if you don't get any of this or if i've gone on too long but i'm pretty much obsessed with soccer :)

I'm from Liverpool and am a big Liverpool FC supporter. Although we didn't win in our first 3 matches, we did manage to keep a clean sheet for 2 of them. We played excellent against Everton yesterday, Diouf had an excellent first half, and Owen scored 2 great goals, and I'm glad Kewell has also joined the scorers list. I think Liverpool are now back on form, and Houllier has some tricks up his sleve. It won't take us long to get to the top of the League.

Alex Ferguson is pooing his pants ;)!

edit: Man U just got beat 1 - 0 :D:D:D!!!!!

I played on the junior varsity on high school (kept that bench warm) but im not really good. But my somewhat decent speed helped make up for my horrible ball skill so i didnt get outclassed too often. I dont play anymore but am looking for a low skill league to join one day. I dont really follow European soccer but watch a lot of the Mexican league games. My favorite team is the Chivas. My biggest complaint with that league is that there are too many players who look to take the ball all the way and dont pass as much as i would like. I dont know what you guys think of it but its what i enjoy.

Unimpressed, it appears Southampton are once again our bogey team.

In case you can't tell I follow Manchester United. Yes Ronaldo is a good signing but we need another striker and defender although it doesn't look like we're gonna get them. But thats a whole different thread. Can't wait to see Kleberson settle in though.

United versus Chelsea should be good.

Yup I still play.

I've been playing since I was 6, and I still play today. I've been a under 12 coach and took a cellar dweller local summer team and turn them into state champs in one year. Did some time coaching at a local high school for the freshman team and junior varsity.

I had a college soccer scholarship to a small division II school in Iowa, but I wrecked my ankle when I stepped in a pit and tore my tendons senior year in the state tourney so I had to decline the scholarship. But I played for the University of Minnesota club team for 2 years until my class schedule got to heavy.

So now a days I just play for a 3M team in the local men's leagues in the bronze and sliver leagues and on a co-ed rec team on the weekends.

Main position is Sweeper or Stopper, depending on who we're playing, and some times I jump between the pipes.

I keep on top of the Scottish Premier League, since I'm a huge Rangers fan (I can't wait to see them take on Man U in the Champ. league) and I try and keep up with Red Star Belgrad (my grandpa was a big fan of these guys) and Bayer Munchen...and sadly the Wolverhampton Wanderers...oh the shame...at least they are back in the big leagues.

And if you'll believe this...I even have a knit and shorts from the Brisbane Strikers when they won the cup a few years back...only because I have family on the Gold Coast.

Can't do it, can't force myself to cheer for the hoops...for a couple of reasons...A) can't stand Sutton and B) there's an all irish team in our league and they all support the hoops, and they are the biggest bunch of cheaters in the league. Defenders dive on the ball when its on the line or over and throw it out of the net, slide from behind, and grab your legs, shorts, knits or "junk" if they miss on the tackle or can't get the ball away. They sport the green and white and I just can't stand'em. But they did get whooped in the playoffs 7-0 so there is a little justice.

:sur: A Rangers fan, could be interesting in about 8 weeks time when United play you. Should be interesting if its the usual bad temper affair or if we get a game of football. Plus we can see how you fair in comparason to Celtic.

Did Barry Ferguson leave Rangers in the end?

Oh and Riversdale Captain don't give in to the darkside, don't support Liverpool ;)

I remember being in Brazil during the 1990 World Cup. Everything stopped during the games, especially when Brazil played. I don't think anything like that happens in the States, not even for the Super Bowl. Literally, everything was painted yellow, blue, and green, the country's colors.

Brazil eventually lost 1-0 to Argentina in the quarterfinals. Right after they lost I got on a bus and the driver had a radio on. The station was playing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina."

If you guys/gals like it, great. But if Pele couldn't turn Americans onto it no one will.

Yea Barry went south...sadly.

I know I'm asking quite abit from the 'gers when they take on Red Devils in the Champ league...I have a hunch MU will win home and away, but it should be better than the US tour Celtic and MU put on. There's much more on the line.

Don't forget Celtic put one over Man U at Old Trafford not so long ago in Ryan Giggs testimonial despite Man U beating them up in Scotland. But it was more of fight than a football match.

So I don't think it will be all plain sailing.
