View Full Version : What have the Star Wars Prequels Accomplished?

Well, answered questions from the OT are now:

1) Where did all the stormtroopers and military might of the Empire come from?

2) How did Palpatine gain control over it; where did he come from?

3) Where did Anakin Skywalker come from? Who was his family?

4) Why did Anakin not take well to Jedi training? How could someone capable of being a Jedi go bad? What were his motivations?

5) If Obi-Wan was so great of Jedi, why couldn't he deal with training Anakin?

6) Who was Luke and Leia's mother?

7) Where did R2D2 and C-3PO come from?

8) What was this mysterious Jedi Order and who were the Knights of the Old Republic? How did they operate?

9) Why did the Republic fall? What could have been done about it?

10) What were the Clone Wars?

11) How did Luke end up living with Owen and Beru?

12) How was Bail Organa involved, and when was Obi-Wan a General?

THE ANSWERS FROM TPM and AOTC:

1) Stormtroopers are probably Clones with armor that has evolved away from symbols of the Old Republic and has been replaced by symbols of the Empire. As the might of the Empire strengthened, Stormtroopers could also include enlisted and drafted random humans from across the galaxy, as time went on, and it hasn't been denied. But it's been pretty obviously answered for the most part.

2) Palpatine was the Senator from Naboo, and he most likely acted as Darth Sidious to set up a situation he could capitalize on politically, and did so, gaining emergency powers as he innocently protested that democracy could work in the face of the greed of special interest groups from "corporate galactica."

3) Anakin was a 9 year old slave boy, son of Shmi Skywalker, another slave. He had a dubious virgin birth, which may or may not be true, but he grew up wanting respect and trusting in his own ability to achieve goals and disciplines that he set for himself. To survive, he learned to cheat around the rules.

4) Anakin knew his mother and wanted to save her from slavery, and end its injustice as he saw fit. More of answer 3 lends to this answer. He also lost his mother, and had difficulty dealing with Jedi restrictions against unsanctioned missions, personal indulgements, and revenge. We saw that just as he could not blame himself for his slavery condition (which was true), he learned to never blame himself for his failures to either a) accept the Jedi training conditions and their consequences for his mother, and the lifestyle he'd chosen or b) accept that it was his fault, that bad things would happen that would terribly affect him, if he strayed outside of the rules Obi-Wan laid down for him - hence he winds up in an ultimately tragic relationship with Padme. Her fate, no doubt completes his downfall. But yes, he always only wanted just to be of help, do good, and be a hero.

5) Obi-Wan was a strict adherent of the Jedi code and didn't want Anakin and the responsibility of training him. But Obi-Wan's master, Qui-Gon, was the student of Dooku, a rule breaker, who taught Qui-Gon his own interpretations or dismissals of what was important to the Jedi code. In the end, Qui-Gon was killed, and Obi-Wan, barely ready to be a Knight, was charged too young, with being a Master to a boy who was too old to begin the training, due to Anakin's previous life experiences, discussed above, as well as Anakin's attachments to others he loved. Qui-Gon probably could have trained him, though Dooku could have remained a danger. We don't know when Dooku really thought of joining the Sith yet. Of course, Qui-Gon, had he lived, would have been susceptible to Dooku. Obi-Wan, however, was only too green and inexperienced to deal with an apprentice only 15 years younger than he was. In most societies, 15 is too young to become a father, yet a young father can handle it in various cases, because the child is a baby in a crib, dependant on the parent, not a podracer with a knack for finding trouble and powers they cannot control. It was doomed from the start. The only new question remaining is how much of this did Palpatine know or plan?

6) Padme Naberrie (Amidala) was Luke and Leia's mother. She was the Queen of Naboo, therefore giving Leia official inheritance of the title "Princess."

7) C-3PO was a junked protocal droid that may or may not have known R2-D2 before being scrapped and having a memory wipe. Anakin Skywalker found what was left of him and rebuilt him and gave him his name we know him by. R2-D2 was one of 6-8 astromech repair droids purchased by the Naboo to serve Padme Amidala's royal starship in basic and emergency maintainance. He is the last survivor of his droid crew from the Trade Federation conflict, and become an honored and trusted servant of Pamde's. The droid's union as counterparts was completed, upon Anakin and Padme's union in marriage.

8) The Knights of the Old Republic were governed by a Council of 12, including Mace Windu and Master Yoda. They maintained an ancient temple to their order on Coruscant, which was at least 1,000 years old, possibly 3,000 years old (Nomi Sunrider had the Jedi based on Exis Station before choosing to move them to Coruscant, years after Ossus was destroyed in the Sith War). The Temple has training and living quarters for younglings, who are taken close to their age at birth, to be raised in an ideal and sheltered lifestyle, until fully inculcated into the Jedi Way. Knights roam the galaxy on a life of continuous missions. They normally choose from younglings at age 13, to become formally apprenticed for about 10-12 years, with one Master. They become Knights themselves at around their mid-twenties. Most Jedi Masters training apprentices would be expected to be older than 30 (for a human master). Very old Jedi may live in the temple and serve on the Council or act as librarians, and other specialists. During the Clone Wars, it was asked of all Knights to become Generals, and their older Padawans to serve as Lieuteniants, commanding Clone Warriors and Republic officers against the Separatists. Jedi who could not be trained to become Knights, are put in diplomatic services or the Agricultural Corps, helping with science and political duties with the benefits of their extensive Jedi education. (Perhaps Palpatine is one of these Jedi who were never chosen? His Force capabilities are thus known to the Council, and that is why he is not suspected when he's on the same ship or in the same office with them?)

9) The Republic fell because of corporate greed and interest group politics that caused for stalemates in critical votes when systems like Naboo needed the results of fast action. Imagine the California fire response if Republicans and Democrats argued the point of sending out-of-state aid until every house had burned down! Well, Naboo, and many of the Separatist Systems were on fire, so they had to take matters into their own hands. It is really surprising that Padme herself does not become a Separatist. I wonder if that will change? Right now, her position is to reform the Republic, because if the Separatists succeed, they'll only eventually need a new galactic government anyway, and learn soon enough that their non-interference policies will only go so far, before their precious commerce is destroyed. They'll need a New Republic, but out of desperation, carefully manipulated by the Sith, they'll help a war-weary population choose an Empire!

10) The Clone Wars were the clashes of an illegally, and unsanctioned Clone army, supposedly created by the Jedi, fighting against independent systems who were trying to create their own destiny because the corrupt or stalemated Republic no longer represented them, and they were lured by the money and show of strength by corporate interests, to trust that their automated droid armies could gaurantee their safety and freedom. The droids could not respond with compassion, and the feeling was almost bred out of the Clones, and what resulted was a war that escalated into the destruction of civilization.

11) Owen was the step-son of Anakin's mother, therefore Anakin's step-brother, and his son Luke's "step-uncle."

12) Bail Organa was a Loyalist Party member who believed in fixing the Republic and stood naively by Palpatine's side, as the Chancellor's ally, until it was too late. He helped the Chancellor gain emergency powers, which sanctioned the Clone Army, and then called upon the Jedi to serve as its generals. Obi-Wan was a Jedi who obeyed his call to duty. He served all the Loyalists to the Republic as a General, not just Bail Organa, but the two may yet end up fighting on the same side in action, or at the speaker's podium. It will be up to E3 to show us anything more.

The Questions left for E3 are as follows:

1) How does Padme die?
2) How does Leia end up with Bail Organa?
3) What makes Anakin finally choose to fight with Obi-Wan with weapons versus words? (he's already mad at Obi-Wan and the Jedi about his mom).
4)What physically happens to Anakin? What are his wounds?
5) How is Palpatine alligned with the Sith? Who was his master? What is he? How did he get into service in Naboo in the first place?
6) When are the droids' memories wiped? 3PO, or both? Why? (can't 3PO remember Tatooine?)
7) Where does Han Solo come from? Is his destiny intertwined in all this so early in his life?
8) What's Chewie's story? Where does his morals originate from?
9) When does the Rebel Alliance form? What will Bail Organa and Mon Mothma have to do with it? How about Admiral Ackbar (NOTE - Mon Calamari is Separatist! - Sen. Tiikes is in AOTC, and in the comics and in the upcoming CW cartoon, Mon Cal and Quarren alike fight Palpatine's Republic)
10) How does Tarkin rise to power? (it's not really important. He just has fans).
11) How is the Jedi Temple destroyed? Are all the Jedi killed, or are they still hunted for 18 years after the movie closes?
12) How does Yoda end up on Dagobah? How does Obi-Wan end up on Tatooine?
13) Does Vader know his son survived? Does Palpatine?
14) Did Anakin have a father? Did Shmi lie?
15) What ends up happening to C-3PO and R2-D2? Are they lost so they can have their "Droids" adventures for the next 18 years? Is R2 trying to loyally get back to Padme, or serve her daughter?
16) Does Obi-Wan meet Darth Vader, once Anakin is transformed?
17) Will Lucas keep Vader's identity secret, as to make for a 12 hour movie?
18) Will Lucas keep the fact that there are twin babies secret for the same reason?
19) Does Lando Calrissian have any significant origin in all of the calamity following the Clone Wars?
20) What has happened to Boba Fett?
21) How does Mace Windu die?
22) How do some Jedi disappear?
23) Do midichlorians have anything to do with any plot point whatsoever?
24) Did JarJar Binks serve any further purpose to the trilogy as a whole?
25) Why did Count Dooku get involved with the Sith? Why did Palpatine trust him? How did they meet?

These are a lot of the issues that have been, or have to be, resolved by the Prequels.

26) Is Anakin really the chosen one.
27) What happens to Palpatine that makes him have no screen time in EIV and yet so much in the first two prequels and from what I know in EIII.
28) What does "Always two there are" really mean. Is Anakin really a Sith at the moment of Dooku's death?
29) Does Jar Jar really have any further purpose
30) How does Leia have memories of her mother
31) :Pirate: What kind of toys can we expect to be made??? Hopefully nothing like the toys of 2002! But rather like the toys of 2004

What have they accomplished or answered? They've accomplished nothing worthy of note and they've answered that fat middle aged men shouldn't keep flogging a dead horse hoping to cash in on previous success.

That starting a saga halfway through is a stupid folly.

That casting great actors doesn't guarantee great performances when you hinder them with technical direction rather than artistic direction.

That people should tell George he can't direct for toffee.

That Rick McCallum is the spawn of Satan himself.

That Hayden Christensen is a lousy actor.

That Trisha Biggar is as mad as a teaspoon and shouldn't be let near a sewing machine let alone a high budget movie.

That in jokes might be funny during downtime but they spoil a movie when you lack the finesse to hide your jokes expertly from the audience.

That digital cameras and CGI suck the life out of a movie.

That John Williams should give up trying to write a score that works.

That Samuel jackson is a very misguided individual.

That C-3PO is a superfluous character who becomes more and more annoying and agonisingly embarrasing to watch with every scene passing.

That Ahmed Best is a complete *******

That there are better things to spend money on than cheap mass produced star wars themed trinkets.

Apparently, people haven't read what I said the prequels DID accomplish for the SW storyline, because no one's yet discussed that.

9)Mon Calamari is Separatist! - Sen. Tiikes is in AOTC, and in the comics and in the upcoming CW cartoon, Mon Cal and Quarren alike fight Palpatine's Republic

From what I understand Mon Calamari is split Tycho. The Mon Cal are with the Republic and the Quarren are with the Separatist.

From what I have read, the Mon Calamari contribute the to the rebellion's starfleet with the signature Mon Calamari cruisers and the
b-wings! Good post Tycho. I love the prequels.

32.) Tell me, what are Midichlorians, Ron? I'm glad you asked...

33.) Why did Obi Wan tell Luke that he found Anakin and chose to train him like his only master, Yoda, when it is now clear that none of that was true at all? Is Obi Wan Kenobi really a two-faced rat fink liar as others have suggested all along?

34.) What will the Hasbro Episode III Pre-release exclusive figure be?

By clicking on this post, I've learned that some people can have fun with a movie while others have the need to be ridiculously cynical, skeptical, bitter and a whole lot of non-fun.

Why those people click on something like this only to add negativity and bitterness, I'll never know. I guess they weren't good "real-life" bullies.

Great topic Tycho!! You put a lot of time into that, and I hope your E3 questions all get answered!

Sorry for being cynical about the Quarren. :crazed:

stillakid, I'm surprised LFL hasn't released official Star Wars bibs with pictures of Ackbar screaming at your dinner, "it's a trap!" ;)

Tycho, I like most of your questions but personally I don't want Han Solo to have anything to do with the prequels. I don't mind Chewie being in there, I actually think it could be decent to have him as an "old timer" of the resistance. But Han should only come in during ANH. And he should shoot Greedo before Greedo shoots. :)

1) Where did all the stormtroopers and military might of the Empire come from? Unresolved. The OT shows us that these are not all clones from the same host, however they could be clones from a variety of donors. However, from offscreen sources and just plain good storytelling, the implication was that the Stormtroopers were "volunteered" from starsystems which fell to the Empire.

2) How did Palpatine gain control over it; where did he come from? Political manipulation requiring absolutely no use of the Force at all. Just as our own politicians here on Earth do, he recognized the weakness of the people to be apathetic and gullible and took advantage of it. No supernatural abilities necessary.

Where he came from is a topic for GL himself to answer.

3) Where did Anakin Skywalker come from? Who was his family? "Divine Intervention"/Immaculate Conception. The religious parallels that GL has infused into the saga are undeniable and it is clear that this is what he was suggesting. Somehow the Galaxy was in need of a Savior or Messiah and the Blessed Midichlorians knocked Schmi up. Their good intentions backfired however when the ratfink liar Obi Wan Kenobi told his dying master that he would train the boy even though he didn't agree with that course of action himself. Obviously his lack of commitment to the project caused his failure and Anakin started hanging out with the wrong crowd.

4) Why did Anakin not take well to Jedi training? How could someone capable of being a Jedi go bad? What were his motivations? He was behaving like a brat. Bipolar maybe, but definitely had emotional stability problems. Delusions of grandeur brought upon by the Jedi themselves, who let him know early on that he was "special." Because Obi Wan was "holding him back" (unproven on film), Anakin justified his rage by lashing out at his master. Meanwhile, with his own nefarious plan a'brewin', Palpatine saw the potential use for such a hot-head in his own regime and started stroking the boy's ego. Anakin was motivated by his own lack of self-esteem and need for validation.

5) If Obi-Wan was so great of Jedi, why couldn't he deal with training Anakin? He never clearly wanted to in the first place, despite his obvious lies later on to Luke. Even when it was clear the Anakin was slipping away, Yoda brushed off Obi Wan's concerns. It was effectively out of his hands.

6) Who was Luke and Leia's mother? Presumably it will be Padme which we will most likely see in a gratuitously unnecessary sequence which will ruin the secret of their identity and their relation to their father.

7) Where did R2D2 and C-3PO come from? Midichor.... ;) . Built by Cyberdyne Syste.... Made in a factory somewhere.

8) What was this mysterious Jedi Order and who were the Knights of the Old Republic? How did they operate? Based on what we see in the Prequels, the Jedi are not much more than beat detectives, kind of like in Barney Miller. They go out in pairs and play good cop/bad cop under the guise of "religion," which has proven out to be a Science instead, what with the introduction of Midichlorians. They probably play the religion card for the tax breaks.

9) Why did the Republic fall? What could have been done about it? Apathy and a gullible populace contributed to Palpatine easily wresting control of the government despite his numerous failed plans. He got there through sheer luck and coincidence.

10) What were the Clone Wars? Wars with Clones leading the charge.

11) How did Luke end up living with Owen and Beru? As we'll see in a gratuitously unnecessary sequence in Episode III, Obi Wan Kenobi will somehow learn that the babies have relatives on Tatooine and decide that this place is the best place to hide the "new hope" from their enraged father. Hide 'em right out in the open, one might say. Of course, Obi Wan will have no idea where to go and no idea exactly who is living there...and Owen and Beru will have no true motivation to take Obi Wan up on this offer as they've never met him and Luke's father once took off with their protocol droid without somuch as a goodbye.

12) How was Bail Organa involved, and when was Obi-Wan a General? Bail is just another sad-face Senator in opposition to the Clone War. This despite the fact that it is clear that Diplomacy is out and war is the only chance to stop the "Separatists" from invading places like Alderaan (at least as far as he knows.)

Obi will become a high ranking officer in Episode III as he leads the charge into battle while still finding time to hunt down Anakin and deal with that personal conflict...and then hide the babies in plain sight.

The Questions left for E3 are as follows:

1) How does Padme die? She can't die in Episode III, unless the babies are born near the beginning of the film and there is a HUGE time gap in there somewhere. Leia remembers her mother being beautiful but sad, so that puts her at at least 3 years old minimum. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to show Padme dying or explaining why.

2) How does Leia end up with Bail Organa? A couple drinks, soft music, candleligh...

Oh, the decision to hide the babies should come soon after the duel with Anakin (though god knows what GL will do at this point). In any case, while they decide to hide Luke exactly where Anakin is most likely to find him, they place Leia with a complete stranger whose only connection to Padme is that they are both against the war.

3) What makes Anakin finally choose to fight with Obi-Wan with weapons versus words? (he's already mad at Obi-Wan and the Jedi about his mom). Obi is mad at Obi about everything, unjustifiably. Obi had NOTHING to do with Schmi dying or "holding" Anakin back. Ani even admits this: "I know" were his words to Padme. In any case, it's his emotionally unstable and potentially bipolar brain chemistry which makes him fly off the handle at the slightest of provacation, justified or not. Lightsabers don't kill people...people kill people.

4)What physically happens to Anakin? What are his wounds? Anakin will undoubtedly lose a limb or two and eventually consciousness. Despite the rather unambiguous damage that a lightsaber can do, he somehow survives his wounds long enough to last until the gratuitously unnecessary montage sequence that puts him in his armor and forever blows the secret of who Darth Vader is for generations to come.

5) How is Palpatine alligned with the Sith? Who was his master? What is he? How did he get into service in Naboo in the first place? All questions for conjecture and most likely won't be answered in Episode III. And there is no need for them to be either.

6) When are the droids' memories wiped? 3PO, or both? Why? (can't 3PO remember Tatooine?) Who knows. Most likely after 3PO makes more stupidly colloquial unfunny comments, somebody will just get annoyed and put the startup disk back in his head to reboot from scratch.

7) Where does Han Solo come from? Is his destiny intertwined in all this so early in his life? Hope not. Like Fett should have been, Solo comes into the saga when he is needed (to get the heroes from point A to B to C). But, like Fett, GL may prove to be the "fanboy lapdog" and shoehorn every major character into the Prequels just for some titillating "oohs" and "aahs."

In fact, on this note, 20th Century Fox had specific problems with ANH in that it's major hero, Luke, wasn't introduced until more than 20 minutes into the film. Unheard of. He came in when needed and no sooner. This is the same attitude that George needs to recall from his youth, but is proving to have forgotten.

8) What's Chewie's story? Where does his morals originate from? Again, does it matter? Aside from fulfilling his own desire to see fighting Wookies (taken over by Ewoks), Chewy serves a purpose to the story and that's as far as it needs to go. Any addition shoehorning in to the Prequels is just gratuitous fun.

9) When does the Rebel Alliance form? What will Bail Organa and Mon Mothma have to do with it? How about Admiral Ackbar (NOTE - Mon Calamari is Separatist! - Sen. Tiikes is in AOTC, and in the comics and in the upcoming CW cartoon, Mon Cal and Quarren alike fight Palpatine's Republic) Arguably, the Rebel Alliance is forming during AOTC. All who oppose Palpatine's decisions are the seed. As the Clone Wars coelesce, so to does the opposition. Loosely at first, then stronger, yet more secretive as Palpatine cracks down. This is the political intrigue stuff that Lucas should be concentrating mostly on instead of soap-opera love sequences.

10) How does Tarkin rise to power? (it's not really important. He just has fans). Exactly, like Fett and Solo.

11) How is the Jedi Temple destroyed? Are all the Jedi killed, or are they still hunted for 18 years after the movie closes? I would suspect that the Clones will level the Temple in a fiery conflagration. But there are still scattered Jedi around, so some mopping up needs to be done. At least that is what the OT implies, but as we've clearly seen, GL isn't one for sticking to his own continuity. Given that, they may all die enmasse.

12) How does Yoda end up on Dagobah? How does Obi-Wan end up on Tatooine? Yoda probably takes a spaceship there unless he's really good and can teleport himself from A to B. Again, this is so not important and would take that much more away from our "discovery" process in the OT.

Obi Wan will decide to take the boy to a place he's only been to once, never stepped foot on, and to people he doesn't know or have a clue where to find them. He too will take a spaceship.

13) Does Vader know his son survived? Does Palpatine? Godwilling, Vader shouldn't know about the kids at all, nor Palpatine.

14) Did Anakin have a father? Did Shmi lie? Doubt it, Lucas is all for religious parallels so this Immaculate Conception idea will stand for eternity.

15) What ends up happening to C-3PO and R2-D2? Are they lost so they can have their "Droids" adventures for the next 18 years? Is R2 trying to loyally get back to Padme, or serve her daughter? R2 is just coincidentally thrown into the conflict with the same circle of people. 3PO is just along for the ride.

16) Does Obi-Wan meet Darth Vader, once Anakin is transformed? What for?! God help us, no. Obi Wan should take whiny brat Anakin down, take his lightsaber, and leave. They shouldn't meet again until ANH.

17) Will Lucas keep Vader's identity secret, as to make for a 12 hour movie? He's already pretty much blown it, but with ANY hint of a Vader character in Episode III, the secret will be gone. With James Earl Jones slated to do some voice work, it is certain that this will not remain a secret. However, Lucas (and extra superdooper fans) will continue to claim that these can be seen in episode order without upsetting anything at all.

18) Will Lucas keep the fact that there are twin babies secret for the same reason? He won't keep any secrets. His desire to please "fanboys" has already been established. He will reveal the babies, he will allow the Anakin character to know about it, and will give away the secret of Vader's identity.

19) Does Lando Calrissian have any significant origin in all of the calamity following the Clone Wars? Should he? Again, like Solo, he is just a cog in the wheel. Why shoehorn everybody into the Prequels just for giggles?

20) What has happened to Boba Fett? He grew up and now fits into daddies shoes. Of course, he had to remove the clothes from the decapitated body first, which undoubtedly is a gruesome task for anyone. He should remain in the background and be nothing until ESB, but given Lucas's desire to please, Fett will play a HUGE role in destroying the Jedi, despite being only about 12 years old.

21) How does Mace Windu die? Hopefully he will go in a spectacular fashion and be the deathknell for the Jedi.

22) How do some Jedi disappear? David Copperfield gives lessons. No, pure conjecture, of course, but they seem to vanish when they are ready for death. It can't get too much simplier than that.

23) Do midichlorians have anything to do with any plot point whatsoever? Aside from "proving" to the audience that Anakin has potential? Not so far.

24) Did JarJar Binks serve any further purpose to the trilogy as a whole? He barely served a necessary purpose in the first place, but I can't imagine what else George needs the little Gungan fool for. But necessity doesn't seem to be a prerequisite for inclusion into the Prequels so Jar Jar could end up being a hero or something. Since he blew off his life-debt to Qui Gon, and is off the hook anyway since Maul took him out, Jar Jar has nothing else to do.

25) Why did Count Dooku get involved with the Sith? Why did Palpatine trust him? How did they meet? Dooku most likely was disenchanted with the Jedi Order for some reason and was positioned properly (politically) to be useful for Palpatine's plans. Of course Palpatine doesn't trust him, he doesn't trust anybody, but he uses them until they become too dangerous.

1) Where did all the stormtroopers and military might of the Empire come from? Unresolved. - The OT did not show us that they were or were not all Clones from the same host. We never saw them with their helmets off, or were given any clues in the dialogue. Originally, people wondered if they were robots even, up until Luke and Han wore the uniforms.

2) How did Palpatine gain control over it; where did he come from?

If Palpatine can take over without using the Force, that makes him more dangerous since he has it in the first place! But somebody also had to be able to train Darth Maul.

4) Why did Anakin not take well to Jedi training? How could someone capable of being a Jedi go bad? What were his motivations? Anakin was motivated by his own lack of self-esteem and need for validation.

Agreed!

Could he have told Luke a different truth so that Luke would trust him to train him as he did his father? Clearly we've seen since ROTJ that Obi-Wan had motivation to lie.

6) Who was Luke and Leia's mother? Presumably it will be Padme which we will most likely see in a gratuitously unnecessary sequence which will ruin the secret of their identity and their relation to their father.

It won't ruin it if the films don't reveal that Anakin is Vader, directly and obviously, until Episode 5 and 6.

Anakin's kids yes...but Anakin is dead. Darth Vader is this other guy...

(if you've never seen SW, and the secret is correctly preserved).

9) Why did the Republic fall? What could have been done about it? Apathy and a gullible populace contributed to Palpatine easily wresting control of the government despite his numerous failed plans. He got there through sheer luck and coincidence.

Like what could happen to any country (hint, hint)

11) How did Luke end up living with Owen and Beru?

What if Vader sends Luke with Obi-Wan there, so as to protect him from Palpatine:

"To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born." Could be Vader's most carefully guarded secret that the Emperor doesn't know about him?

The Questions left for E3 are as follows:

1) How does Padme die? She can't die in Episode III, unless the babies are born near the beginning of the film and there is a HUGE time gap in there somewhere. Leia remembers her mother being beautiful but sad, so that puts her at at least 3 years old minimum. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to show Padme dying or explaining why.

I seem to agree with this.

2) Padme might need to take shelter amongst other humans from Loyalist worlds if Naboo is destroyed. Another reason why the kids can't stay with their grandparents, the Naberries.

6) When are the droids' memories wiped?

Microsoft glitch.

7) Where does Han Solo come from?

I wouldn't mind Han's origins being shown. He should be a new kind of Clone.

Anakin Skywalker didn't come into TPM until 30 minutes or more into the film. But Qui-Gon really seemed to be the hero character of that movie.

13) Does Vader know his son survived? Does Palpatine? Godwilling, Vader shouldn't know about the kids at all, nor Palpatine.

It'd make it more interesting if Vader did, and pledges his loyalty to Palpatine in order to spare his son!

16) Does Obi-Wan meet Darth Vader, once Anakin is transformed? What for?! God help us, no. Obi Wan should take whiny brat Anakin down, take his lightsaber, and leave. They shouldn't meet again until ANH.

I think it would be interesting if Obi-Wan does meet Vader, there is no fight, but instead Vader admits his mistake, but claims it is "too late for me," so instead pleads with Obi-Wan to take Luke to Owen and Beru, and keep out of harm's way. This would shock the audience, even if the idea takes some getting used to.

Finally Dooku's involvement might hold some more intrique for the plot to come.

Oh grow up. If you don't like my opinion use the friggin ignore function. It's a forum, that means debate, two differing opinions battling it out or many different opinions battling it out in verbal badinage and disection. If you can't handle someone having a differing opinion go find a glee club to join. Either put up or shut up.

If i'm a bully then you're a coward for being so meek you can't actually call someone out by name and have to thinly veil your whining with 'some people'.

I had such a beautifully-crafted response to your sweet post, but I guess in the end, you're just not worth it. I'll bite my tongue so that SirSteve doesn't take away my privilege of being here, to learn the new info on Star Wars (see, I actually like the movies).

As far as that ignore button - thanks for enlightening me; it's been activated, so I'll now be shielded from all your negativity. Good luck with that by the way.

16) Does Obi-Wan meet Darth Vader, once Anakin is transformed? Then Obi-Wan transforms in to a Jedi Starfighter and Vader transforms into a TIE Fighter.

8) What's Chewie's story? Where does his morals originate from?

Chewbacca is a Wookie from the planet Kashyyyk and fought the Sep army when they tried to invade. He never shut the **** up. Years later, he allied himself with Han Solo.

Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, Chef's attorney would certainly want you to believe that his client wrote "Stinky Britches" ten years ago. And they make a good case. Hell, I almost felt pity myself! But, ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!

Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

To return (er, "revenge" :p ) back to this thread's title, the Prequels accomplished the goal of earning about $1 billion in gross receipts. :greedy:

And creating a rift between fans, to the point that there are now:

- Naive believers (anything SW is true, even in "real life" aspects)
- True believers (anything SW is true, but can seperate from "real life" aspects)
- OT only (denying existence [or at least the relevance] of Prequel films, due to contradictions and plotlines)
- PT are better (like the Prequels, and they were necessary to complete the story)
- films only (any Expanded Universe [EU, for short] is false and just useless filler)
- I hate Star Wars totally now (reject anything SW out of frustration, either because they never liked/saw it or the Prequels tainted their memories)
- Miscellaneous (some other category)

Sad. A space fantasy, a fairy tale for a generation without one is now a controversial issue.

I'm going to classify myself in the hybrid "OT only (denying the relevance of Prequel films, due to contradictions and plotlines)"/films only (any Expanded Universe [EU, for short] is false and just useless filler). Despite the midichlorians and a little kid Anakin, I like Episode 1 the best of the prequels. It is the only one that I can shut the part of my brain down that dislikes the prequels.

This past weekend I watched part of The Goofy Movie with my daughter. Last night, Episode I was HBO and I ended up watching it. Somewhere around Boss Nass' first scene, it occurred to me that Jar Jar Binks is an amphibian form of Goofy. Think about it; tall, clumsy, floppy ears, made for kids. Basically Jar jar is just a salamander version of Goofy.

No diggity, no doubt. I'd never seen anything with Goofy that wasn't hilariously funny until that point. Even Goof Troop was one of the better Disney TV shows. But that ranks with Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Mac &Me, and Batman & Robin as one of the worst films I ever saw in a theater.

Rogue II
01-04-2007, 05:26 PM
Wow. You paid to see that? It was on the Disney Channel, and since there wern't any other good kids shows on at the time I figured, "It's Goofy, how bad could it be?"

Still, I was just suprised how much Jar Jar in TPM reminded me of Goofy.

El Chuxter
01-04-2007, 05:40 PM
Yeah, I think it was the first of the really subpar POS's that Disney's b-team put out. I actually had rather high expectations. Like I said, until that point, Goofy was the shiznit.

I think this tangent brings up more interesting questions...

What have the Disney cartoons accomplished?

Questions left unanswered:

1. Why do Goofy and Mickey wear pants and Donald doesn't?

2. Why can Goofy talk and Pluto can't?

4. What happened to question 3?

5. Which came first, Chip & Dale or Chippendale's?

6. Is EuroDisney still open?

7. Why doesn't Kidhuman like Goofy? Was it a traumatic incident at Disney World when he was 3?

7. Why doesn't Kidhuman like Goofy? Was it a traumatic incident at Disney World when he was 3?#1: Donald sometimes swims, thereby retaining more of his de-personified traits as an amphibious creature, than dog-based Goofy or mouse-based Mickey. Simple.

#2: Goofy, AKA Dippity Dawg, was anthropomorphosized [sp?] in the "time in the future" cartoons as a human, while Pluto reamined a pet (albeit a loyal companion) of Mickey. More was expected of him (even though he seldom spoke in those "future" shows) as a human, therefore he speaks. Simple.

#3: Question 3 was spoken by Pluto, and as a howler outside of human hearing, we missed it. Simple?

#4: See above, simply.

#5: Chippendale's, the male dancers, I think were a product of the '60s or '70s, and Chip and Dale, the cartoon chipmunks, were perhaps from the '50s or '60s. Isn't Chippendale's an auction house or some other business? Not so simple.

#6: Like one's zipper, it may be open, but people only acknowledge it to mock and laugh. homme simple.

#7: I yield to KH to explain his neurosis and/or phobia and/or bias. Symp el... Latin for "I feel your pain..."
