View Full Version : Lousy Christmas present from starwars.com

Well, ain't this a kick in the butt for fans? As of December 20 (actually, before then), everyone with a page on starwars.com will have to relocate. What was once seen as a revolutionary step in media relations--and amounted to plenty of cheap advertising--is now going the way of the dodo.

Sigh. . . . I guess I'll find another home for Earl (http://fan.starwars.com/earl) and my other SW-related pages. Not that I've updated them in quite some time, but it's a bit of an inconvenience. At least they gave us almost a month's notice.

Sigh. Can anyone recommend a good free hosting service that doesn't bombard visitors with pop-ups?

So what was the whole point of the "how to make your website interesting" article in Insider 57? I was actually planning on creating a site there and using some of the tips they gave. Oh well.

Yeah, this was definitely not LFL's best move. I mean, Lucas is already a BILLIONAIRE thanks to Star Wars and yet the SW.com site has banner ads and has in the past had redirect ads and pop-ups!!! WTH?!?

As for an adequate freehost, I've been happy with Geocities for about 2 years now, very few complaints from me. Unfortunately, I can't use them as an image host so if I wanted to link an image from my site off these forums, it wouldn't work out.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!:crazed: :D :p  :greedy: :) :o :( You have to be the funniest El Chuxter. No pop ups? where the heck have you been for the last year? EVERYTHING is pop up now. there's no such thing as a web site anymore. Now they're just called pop sites. the adverts are free but you pay to viewanything else. I heard there's a few hosting places but you only get webspace if you agree to have a pop up ad every third word....

Actually I have no idea about any of this. I use a UK web service to host my pop up less site. But unfortunately Lineone have just been swallowed by TISCALI who are just plain crap.

this is the only place i found that has cheap deals for pop up less sites. the free sites get pop ups added automatically and you have to put an ad for the host on your pages. much like starwars.com made you do really. :)
