View Full Version : Looks like Yoda will have a lightsaber.....

....allegedly. Over at theForce.net they are reporting that an Episode 2 Lego set includes Dooku vs. Yoda and that Yoda comes with a little yellow lightsaber. I'm not sure how I feel about this, or if it's even true. What do you think?

I have to admit I am really not liking the idea of yoda bustin the moves. I have heard that ILM thought that the scene looked to silly but GL wanted to leave it in.

I think if it has to happen then he should not have a lightsaber because he has no need for one. Instead he just uses powerful force pushes and such. And that way he wouldn't have to move around alot.

But knowing George Lucas this is going to be some weird scene that doesn't fit the character of Yoda as we know him... and most fans will cringe.

Yoda with a lightsaber?

"Nooooooooooooooooooo, that's impossible!"

"Father (GL), please, help meeeeeeeee"
"Now, young Star Wars fans, you will die..."

Please ILM, kill GL and make a clone of him to replace the one that has gone bad...if this yoda/saber hold true.

The pic I saw of the set did have Yoda with a standard Lego saber hilt and what appeared to my Lego-trained-eyes to be a green, not yellow, blade. However, the image was pretty shoddy.

I also don't like the idea of Yoda using a saber, it seems so unlike the character we met in ESB.

Use last resorts, a Jedi must.

Although I wouldn't be suprised if LEGO just put it in there for "flavor."

I haven't seen the LEGO thing, but the whole Yoda going "Jackie Chan" with a lightsaber thing makes me wanna cry  ... it's just funny... not funny "HA HA", but funny "Put gun to head and blow brains out". :dead:

I still am having a hard time with the whole 'Jackie Chan-Yoda' fight too but him having a lightsaber, I hope it's just a LEGO thing and doesn't make it's way into the film...

NO...THAT'S NOT TRUE...THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE...NnnnnnnnOooooooo

Urgh, I remember giving my POTF Yoda Luke's blue lightsaber and thinking "I hope he doesn't fight with one in the prequels", sigh!

This is probably one of the biggest blunders GL could make. I thought that I had read an article regarding the fight as one where Yoda is the Jedi leader and as someone else has already pointed out, force pushes and the like. I may be wrong. As I have said before, it is GL's universe afterall. were just along for the ride.

You must be this tall to ride this ride.

See, based on what we learned in the OT, I always saw the Jedi being an organization like any other...some of the members were warriors and others were like office staff. While we know that Yoda had significant control over the Force (ESB) and we know why (TPM: midichlorian count ) (sorry WW), he just doesn't have the physique to be in the trenches. Old Ben said it this way: the Jedi were guardians of peace and justice...etc. Well, some are used as guardians of peace (the warrior guys) and some are the justice part (the non-warrior guys).

Yeah, when Yoda ignites that thing, it's gonna look like a great big yellow ****-**. How can it not?

What are those things that Bruce Lee used in Enter the Dragon? Nun-chakas? Is that what they're called? Well I was okay-ish with him training the padawan about the dangers and ethics of lightsaber use at the academy, and using two little itty bitty lightsabers. but actually jumping around like a frog on heat is another thing. Using Yoda for comedy is another thing again. And if that's the case then Lucas is a big pile of steaming horses poopoo for betraying the character of Yoda. Anyway, judging by the footage from the trailers, Yoda is still hobbling round like a crippled old war vet. So how can he suddenly don super powers and become all agile and leap tall baddies in a single bound? It doesn't make sense and smacks of misinformation from LFL direct to throw fans who snoop too much off the scent. I'm thinking that a site with some force pushes of their own at the rear are the ones who originated this rumour. I think this blows big time and the Lego thing is just one of those things that Toy companies do to sell toys, chuck in an accesory as a throw away just to make people think the toy is more exciting than it actually is. And well, judging by the vehicle that the set centers around...... it's gonna need some help to sell itself  Oh, and shouldn't yoda be a bit smaller? He's the same size as Dooku for pete's sake! they could at least have taken the legs off to give a sense of scale.

Hey don't forget Yoda is a Jedi Master. Surely he can summon the force enough to firght an epic battle. He'll just be real tired afterward. (probably need a viagra after that conflict) Also as far as the Lego is concerned just attach a 2x2 flat piece to the bottom of his waist, it will substitute for feet just fine and give you the scale you so desire.

Ah, yes. Just as I predicted. The lightsaber Luke receives wasn't his father's afterall. It was Yoda's!

1) BMPs suck, and that one is one of the worst I've ever seen;

2) Lego translucent yellow plastic is screamingly yellow, while their translucent green plastic is very pale green.

Don't forget! The LEGO landerspeeder set came with Luke & Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan has a lightsaber, but he never fought with his lightsaber in a speeder scene. ANNDDDDD, the only time Luke fought with his lightsaber while in his X-wing pilot suit was....never. The Hoth suit was way different than the normal X-wing one and the Snowspeeder Luke came with a lightsaber also. It's for playability.

LEGO obivously knows that kids are probably attracted to Yoda, so instead of them having to sacrifice their other character's lightsabers for Yoda, LEGO included his own since he's a Jedi, it's the first time his LEGO figure is being released, and it would be cool for younger ones who don't know better about Yoda for their figure to fight with a lightsaber.

If it's a real fact though.... I can't even picture how he would hold a lightsaber or even fight! What would he do? Get Luke to stand on his hands and levitate him the whole time? Otherwise...the only way I could imagine Yoda with a lightsaber would be like the duel scene between Kermit and Long John Silver at the end of Muppet Treasure Island.

Lego isn't allowed to include a lightsaber with a figure that doesn't carry one, LFL licensing doesn't allow it. Luke did carry his saber in his X-wing pilot gear in ESB, so you can't say it's unnecessary just because it comes with a blade, and that is the only ANH Obi-Wan figure, so it HAS to come with a saber. Lego is not allowed to take liberties with main characters, everything they do has to go through Lucaslicensing.

It dosen't seem to far fetched for Yoda to have a lightsaber.I can't picture him doing all that fighting stuff with one.So maybe it is just for defence.I still think that there is a lot about Yoda that we don't know, like maybe he is a real bad-***$ when put to the test.

I always imaged Yoda using the force than a lightsaber in a battle,Maybe the only way Yoda could win in the battle with Dooku was if he used his lightsaber?

So far we have never seen a jedi use the force strangle or lightning in a battle, only force pushes. Which inclines me to think that they can't kill using the force alone. Now we have seen force pushes used to destroy or at least knock down droids, but so far, never on a living being.

Maybe there's some jedi technicality that requires the use of a physical weapon like the lightsaber to kill in defense.

I've been saying this for a long time... Yoda is a Master of the Force and doesn't need a lightsaber to fight anyone including Sith Lords. If he could lift a X-Wing out of a swamp and place it gently down on solid ground...that's major skills... I hope and prey that the Jackie Chan-styled fight scence will disappear and not be true...

In the book I'm reading "Shadow Hunter"Windu makes a statement about Yoda's lightsaber skills are 2nd to none.True he is a master, but don't you think he would be able to use a lightsaber too.I think it will interesting to see how they do it.GL please don't make Yoda look like a goof.:(

From the spoilers I have read, the battle between Dooku, Anakin, and Obi Wan is no contest. Dooku whoops the tar out of both of them (even slicing part of Anakin's arm off) and then Yoda comes to the rescue.
Yoda engages in a lightsaber duel with Dooku, and Dooku gets his *** handed to him by Yoda.
When Yoda is tired of playing, he forces Dooku off a ledge.
Dooku survives, but Yoda is victorious.
This is just an excerpt of what I have read.
Seeing the Lego images of Yoda with the saber have made me believe this is the case.

Emperor Jargo, the Lego Yoda IS smaller than the other lego characters. Did you NOT read the post on the home page right here on SSG? He has the new 1 piece non-articulated SHORT legs that are now being used with the Ewoks.;)

As for Yoda using a lightsaber? Well, I too have read that Yoda is a MASTER with a lightsaber. In fact there is a scene when he is instructing some young Padawans in the use of the lightsaber.

It also states that Yoda is not NEARLY as feeble as he likes to pretend to be. This usually throws his opponants off guard.

Also his style is described as a series of simple moves and gestures. He's not some over-the-top-kung-fu-artist, doing a bunch of flips and kicks. It's more like simple side steps etc.

Basicly he kicks your but without having to take more than 1 or 2 steps.:D

If this is the case, then so be it. As long as it is tastefully done!

Yoda fliping through the air doing somersaults is just plain rediculous.

BTW, I found images at www.brickshelf.com

Here is the address for a quality LARGE image of set #7103:

Hope this helps.

Exactly, by seeming feeble it lulls your enemies into a false sense of superiority. According to some of the charecter guides Emporer Palpatine in ROTJ doesn't need his cane either, just using it to appear old and feeble. It's also a possibility that Yoda and Emporer Palpatine are somewhat week, when they arn't tapping the force, but when they do...like Yoda does in E2 and Palpy does at the End of Return of the Jedi it may energize him.

Infact I also think it's a possibility that Palpy in ROTJ was actually feeding off of Luke and Vader's fight. He seemed to almost grow stronger like a dark side vampire from the anger, fear, and hatred that were flowing thru the two of them at the time. It's always a possibility that someone of Yoda and Palpatine ability with the force can actually tap into the light and dark aspects of the force and feed off them.
