When we go to toy stores and discount superstores, we expect to find... empty shelves. :( When we go to antique shops, swap meets, and collectible stores, we expect to find... over-inflated prices for poor quality items. (Sorry, just a tad cynical) But what about those times when what you find wasn't expected at all, perhaps just something discarded, left on the ground, or in a place not known for selling such stuff? Tell us! (Or ignore this thread and go on with your superior lives... more cynicism)

I found a Micro Collecton figure just laying in the street near my house. It was around '83 or so, and I still have kneeling Luke in pilot outfit; odd pose for someone flying a ship.

At a hotel I once worked, I noticed a small item on the carpet in the hallways. Of course, it was a POTF2 Boba Fett rifle. What else would it have been?

While garage sale shopping several years back, I stopped at a house and noticed that the sheet underneath their old whatever items had a SW pattern, I asked if they'd sell the sheet, and while they were confused, they said sure. How 'bout $.50? they said. I said, okay. But since they couldn't find any coin change, I ended up being cheated for an even dollar.

At a comic book shop, I noticed they had an old paperbacks section, where books were $2 I believe. In this pile was a slightly-used copy of Once Upon a Galaxy, the ESB behind-the-scenes book. I snatched that one up, too.

You got any others, gentle readers?

Maybe not entirely unexpected, but very pleasing nonetheless: complete Lando and Han trilogies in paperback, the vintage copies, from the same used book store for 1/2 cover price. Under 10 bucks for these 6 books was a happy find.

I also got a few ESB vintage Burger King glasses from a flea market for a buck apiece. Never dishwashered by the looks of them, the paint is still bright and fresh.

A comic store I visited in Toronto was going out of business, and was offering 75% off certain back issue boxes. Well, I dug out just over half of a Marvel Star Wars collection (55 or 56 issues, averaging f/vf condition with many in NM) and got them for around 40 dollars. Another happy day.

2 finds for me. About 2, 2 -1/2 years ago I go into the KB store on Kirkwood highway (which I usually had no reason going over that way) to see what SW stuff they have. hadn't found anything new / good in a while. SO I go in and find an Ammo Wagon and Falumaset! At the time I didn't realize just how rare it was, I thought it was just one of those E1 things that didn't show up because the shelves were stocked with old stuff.

More recently, 2 weeks ago I was in the KB Outlet (that is now closing) and found the Geo playset for 19.99. I already had it, so I left it, but it was nice to find.

A friend from High School, who collects vinyl LPs found a copy of the ESB soundtrack at a thrift store. The cover and record were in great shape. I think he paid about a $2.00 (or less) for it.

A while ago, my wife dragged me off to a very early morning rummage sale that was crowded, smelled bad and seemed to offer nothing but dumpster quality items. Just as I was thinking about leaving, I spotted a little silver box with the words "Return of the Jedi" and a picture of a Darth Vader coffee mug on it. Grabbed the box, saw that the mug was inside (sticker and tag still on it) and then gave the Yoda aged lady at the "pay" table her 25 cents.
