Anakin (http://img13.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Jedi469/anakincrisp.jpg) and Anakin Close Up (http://img13.photobucket.com/albums/v37/Jedi469/anakinclose.jpg)

The full body Anakin pic is a composite from EP3 makeup tests. The arm is the only thing not from a real Episode III source. The close up has a little PS manipulation as well but it's real too.

It has "fake" written all over it!

The other pictures look good though :)

For some odd reason, I don't foresee them making any "Anakin Skywalker: Burned to a Crisp" action figures. I bet once this flick hits the theaters, the customs will start popping up on e-bay. :D

Grevious looks MILES better than he did on the cover of that book. I really cannot wait for this flick! cheers!! :)

On some other sites, people were arguing the validity of the Anakin pic because of the location of his robotic arm where it meets the rest of his arm. In the newer Clone Wars cartoon footage, It shows Anakin sleeveless and where his robotic arm ends. It is in the SAME location as the cripsy pic as well.

Hey guys. Sorry I'm just jumpin' in here. I've been reading your posts for a long time now and I'm finally going to contribute. So here's my 2 cents so far.

I don't know if anybody knows what Greivous's back story is or if what is known is even true but I was looking at those pics and I got a funny idea. Is it just me or do those pics look a little pre-Vaderish. I'm not saying that they (Greivous/Vader) are the same person, mind you, but could it be that Greivous's origin/creators have some kind of influence on Anakin's change from human to cyborg. Any thoughts?

Boba Rhett
03-02-2004, 01:59 AM
Well, I imagine Palpy had input into the design of Greivous and he's the one who saved Ani so I imagine that would be the reason for any similarities.

I'm hoping that GWL will still keep the Ani=Vader secret, and make it look like Grievous is possibly Vader :) thus keeping the "I am your father" secret.

I'll shut up about that now...... actually NO I WON'T! :crazed:I would have to agree on this point. For all of you that want viewers to believe that Anakin is dead by the end EIII, Greivous's role in this movie may be enough to cast a shadow of doubt that Anakin is Vader when it comes time for the OT.

Now I know I'm going to open a whole can of worms that should probably stay closed, but I am of the mind that these movies can play out just fine with viewers knowing that Vader is Anakin. Reason being that if these movies are truly going to be about the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker then it would be kind of silly for us the believe him dead for 2 chapters of this saga.

Knowing that Vader is Anakin does not lessen the impact of that controversial encounter in ESB, but it does change it in a dynamic way. Instead of the audience's reaction being one of "Oh my god, I had no idea they were related!" it will be one of "Oh my god, what's Luke going to do now that he finally knows!" :sur: The new take on the scene is just as shocking and pivotal to the series as the original view. In my humble opinion of course. ;)

I originally had Pendo's view but the more I think of it, the more cool I think it will be to know that Vader is Anakin upfront and I am saying this primarily about people who get the opportunity to watch the movies in order 1-6. I honestly think it will be better for them if that is not left as a surprise. I think by having that in EV, it is kind of stupid and sticks out like a sore thumb. Because they are thinking he died two movies ago. I no longer care about him. This is not really a shock but just a stupid thing to do. Honestly, try writing a bit and I think you may see what I am saying. Plot-wise, keeping his identity a secret is stupid.

Sebulba_Fett

My thoughts exactly Plo. If these movies are to be centralized on Anakin's story, which I believe GL has even alluded to, why would any viewer care about him if he is believed dead for 2 movies. A viewer must realize that Anakin is very much alive for the redemption theme to take hold. It makes Luke saving him at the end all the more powerful. If the viewer watches this whole series in order, following Anakin's innocent beginnings to his eventual descent to evil, and then when the second half begins, to see exactly what he has become makes Luke's accomplishments and Vader's return to the light that much more dramatic.

Also, if Anakin's change to Vader is known by the end of EIII, no one will believe anything can be done for him, including Obi-won. This adds a new twist to the title of EIV. Not only is Luke a new hope for the galaxy, but a new hope for Anakin as well.

At this point I kind of hope that Lucas leaves it open to interpretation to "preserve" the "mystery" so that those people who want to pretend that they don't already know the "secret" can feel free to do so I can stop hearing about it. No offense to our friends here. ;) :D
Truthfully, I feel this can of worms has been open for far too long now, but I'm sure we'll have to wait until next year, at the end of the movie when we see Anakin's face get closed up in Darth Vader's helmet (of course, we can still pretend that it might possibly be a clone of Anakin thereby maintaining the "surprise"...) until everyone can finally get on with their lives.

Peace out, homies! :D

Well, it's already been stated that pieces of the Vader suit will be seen throughout Episode III. Apparently, it kinda gets cobbled together as a last-minute measure to save Anakin. Only after he's in the suit does he become Darth Vader ... this is the point at which there's no turning back for Anakin. Well, not for another 24 years, anyway.

I'm just hoping that the suit isn't exactly the same as the version we see in ANH. I'd prefer it to be a bit funkier, a bit more low-tech. The armor could be a tad clunkier, and even a bit primitive compared to the suit we see 20 years later. That really cool pre-production painting by Ralph McQuarrie (http://www.ralphmcquarrie.com/ralph/swart/paint/11.html) that had Vader looking a bit more insect-like, while also looking kind of like a high-tech Samurai, would be a great starting point for the Vader we see in Ep. III.

What pics, Plo? Do you still have them or do you know where they can be found? I'd kind of like to see them.

I agree that Vader should look a lot different than what we see in ANH. 20 years is a long time and he would definately have had some upgrades in that time. I mean just look at how much the Clone/Stormtroopers changed in that same period of time. But who knows what will actually happen.

Sorry, although cool looking(in a weird, grotesque kinda way) That Crisp Anakin picture, cannot be LFL official! I understand that it's possible it could be a double, but that sure isn't Hayden, and why wouldn't it be him? A crucial scene like that and Hayden(who likes to do his own stunts) isn't in it? BS!!! I think it's just some creative fans, who have good FX skills!

The rest look official enough, but a couple of the "production pics" look like they could have been taken from a comic book!

As far as the whole "mystery" over Anakins/Vader identity is concerned. I'm a purist and also feel that it should be left open, and the suprise saved for EpV. As you watch in order from 1-6, it could be looked at as the adventures of The Jedi, the Rise of the Empire, and the overall battle between good and evil. Pretty weak excuse I know, However with the attempt to validate allowing the secret to be destroyed because it would provide better writting, what sense would it make watching Luke asks questions about his father in ANH, if everbody knows that Vader is Lukes father! There would be no emotional investment for an audience to accept Luke to take on a quest that means to destroy The Empire and inturn destory his father!
As is, we know Luke to be good and Vader evil; white and black. If we know Vader is Lukes father, we then would ask ourselves; why is Ben lying to Luke?, Luke is good and the empire is evil, so how does he destroy the Empire and save his once good father? You can see the problems already! You don't start a journey with this dilema. A journey is usually a self discovering quest, that provides bumps and roadblocks for the hero to hurdle. The "secret" is a mental roadbloack that challenges what the hero thought was right and just, and allows him to make his self discovery through each new challenge and choice of action. So by keeping the secret, it keeps the writting devices clear and concise, black and white, good vs evil, and then gives the suprise that much more meaning! :classic:

Thanks for the info, derek. I'll have to check that out. Also, awesome pic, bf. :D There may be hope for this movie yet. Episode III: Revenge of the Spaceballs.

Xir, good thoughts. You bring up valid points but you even mention it yourself. If the story was "about the adventures of The Jedi, the Rise of the Empire, and the overall battle between good and evil." But I believe the general rule is that these six movies will be about Anakin Skywalker. If that is how it is to be than the audience should know that the central character is still alive at halftime.

Now, if the two trilogies were billed as two seperate stories. The first about Anakin, the second about Luke. Then, yeah, it would be great to end the first trilogy with Anakin "dead" and a question hanging over Vader's identity. I'd even like it better this way. I love that part in ESB and to preserve it would be wonderful, but in the end I don't think the ending of EIII is going to be tailored to save one scene in ESB. My only point in the end isn't to change anyone's opinion, but instead to hopefully make this bitter pill go down a little easier.

Whatever, enough, my brain hurts. :crazed:
Onto something else.;)

The 'Xir

I know where you're comming from, and I've always looked at all six movies as Anakin's story as well. But Lucas has made it vague even in recent interviews. He'll say how the overall arc of the story IS about Anakin Skywalker; his rise, fall and redemption, but he also breaks it down saying the first half is how Anakin goes bad, and the second half is how his son brings him back. So I think that's how we should look at it, 2 long movies each broken up into 3 parts, encompasssing the overall rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker! I don't know, I think people will get it either way, and I don't think they'll care too much about how Anakin missing from 4 and 5 shows writting flaws, if the secret remains intact! You go to watch and be entertained and as long as they understand it in a general sense most people will be happy, it's just us die-hards that will go back and forth about issues like this...kinda like we're doing now!!! ;)

So check them out here The Annex (http://clik.to/theannex)

And if anyone has any other pics let me know and I will add them to the galleries.
