I just got the my first Lego magazine and it has alot of the newer 2004 Lego sets in it. The mini line is already out as they listed the AT-TE, Sith Infiltrator, Shuttle and Star Destroyer.

The thing iwas looking at tough was the sets. They have the Cantina, Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Cloud City. CLoud City looks awesome. It has many sections of it included. It has the Dining area, Duel Area, Landing Pads and the Carbonite section. It also comes with 7 figures, Luke,Darth, Han , Leia, Lando , Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper.

I hope this isnt an old set as I havent seen it yet. Has anyone seen this yet or know when it will be released(if it hasn't already)?

My wife said for me b-day, which is in June. So hopefully I can order it then. Is it a S@H deal only?

Ijust got ogff the phone with Lego. The CLoud City is available through them and high end retailers such as FAo(which is out of business, but the example she gave me) They dont know if it will be released to stores like TRU or Target because of the 100 buck price point. Man I want this set.

This link (http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=10123) will show a better picture, less blurry.

The set was released about 6 months ago, I saw the set at the new Lego store the Glendale Galleria and the box is impressively large... oh yeah, the set looks good too. ;)

So, they sell them at the Lego stores, JT? I'll be heading down to SoCal this summer to visit the folks so maybe I just stop by the store in Anaheim.

I've been thinking about this set a lot lately cause I'd like something to do with my Cloud Car other than be a place to stick my Lobot.

I've been trying to justify the jacked up price as compared to other sets. The AT-AT has about 400 more pieces (I haven't opened mine up yet), but many of the pieces look to be specialized and pretty big. Most on the Cloud City set don't look that specialized, yet many appear to be somewhat large. I don't know how much of that goes in to the price compared with the "exclusivity factor."

Any thoughts JT, cause I know you have them. ;)

I have been trying to figure out the prices as well. It almost seems like 100 pieces are ten dollars with most sets. 1000 pices= 100 dollars. Maybe because it is limited in who is selling it. The only places I know of are LEgo S@H and their own stores. Kinda like exclusives only.

Mini-figures also drive the price up. The AT-AT and Cloud City cost about the same, but the AT-AT has 1000 pieces and Cloud City just under 700. The difference in the number of mini-figure, 4 vs. 7. Now that's a justification, just the facts as I see them. There was an old formula, like 8 or 9 cents per brick, that use to work pretty well. But that really hasn't worked to well in resent years.

Man Can, yes, almost anything that's a Shop-at-Home exclusive also goes to Lego stores, I can't think of an exclusive that didn't. Getting a $100 set to enhance a $10, only a Star Wars fan could think of that. :D ;) Seriously though, I'd love to have 2 Cloud Cars sitting on that Cloud City landing pad, it's too small for the Falcon I think, but cloud cars on there would be awesome.

The exclusivity usually doesn't affect Lego prices that I've ever noticed, but the AT-AT is a pretty good bargain for parts count at 9.3 cents per piece while Cloud City is at the other end of the spectrum at 14.3 cents per piece (though you get a larger array of parts and several nearly-baseplate-sized pieces). In generally, Lego pieces in a set cost beteen 8 and 15 cents each, so the Cloud City isn't outside the realm of its pricepoint (from a technical standpoint, anyway ;)). Personally, I've had a hard time justifying this set to myself at that price.

BTW, the AT-AT is like the AT-TE in that they both have a surprisingly low number of specialty parts, one of the things I like about 'em: not only are they fantastic vehicles, but they're parts farms! :D

I couldn't just come out and say I want it because it looks cool to play with. Maybe I'm like Marge Simpson and have to rationalize every purchase. :) Who knows.

Now that you mention the base plates, I can see how they would jack the price up. A generic green plate at TRU is something like $5+ (probably more like $10). Throw in the new Lando (the hottest Lego minifig, IMO--no, not hot like that), a new Luke, new Leia, plus multidecaled Boba Fett, and the fact that it's an exclusive and I see how they jump to $100 pretty fast.

Do they ever have discounts on S@H stuff? If so I'd like to wait until one happens, but I bet it won't on this one.

What ever the price is on this set Iwant it. It looks too good topass up. 7 mini figs and 700 pices is worth it to me. Plus the fact that it is over 2 ft long.

Also Man Can, the base plates are less than 5 bucks at your local Wally World.

why would they not sell cloud city playsets at TRU because of the $100 dollor price the AT-AT is 100 bucks its there.

Does anyone remember when they had the "crater" plates? I used to have a couple, but haven't seen them around lately. I only see the small and large green base plates. On occasion I find the ones with turns and straight lanes, but nothing like the old gray plates with a hill and a crater over to one corner.

As much as I want this Cloud city set, I'm afraid it will have to stay on my wish list at this time.

That's unlikely to be the reason in my opinion.

The Classic Space plates, yes I remember them. It's been well over 10 years since Lego has used that base in a set, I think. The last set I remember seeing it in was the original Blacktron base, and that's like 16 years ago. And its been about the long since I last saw that base for sale as well.

Great, and to think I went through a phase in my life when my brother and I got bored with the lego space sets, and set the space sets up in teams, and turned it into a "death to the lego's by BB gun". Yes, we shot up our old Lego sets in our teens, at well as the base plates (hey, we had to have something for the little man to stand on as we gunned them down). Now I wish I hadn't lost interest in Legos for those couple of years, as I might have still had my crater base plates.

Yes, they do have daily specials at S@H, as well as catalog specials, but unless this set really tanks, I don't foresee it being a catalog special and it's VERY easy to miss the daily specials (plus, it'd be like another year until it gets to that point).

Jedibill, I think the reason it's exclusive may have more to do with the weaker showing Lego SW had at retailers in '02 and the first half of '03, so they wouldn't want 2 different $100 SW boxes competing for the same amount of shelf space since $100 boxes take up a LOT of shelf space.

I miss my old base plates, they ended up at my dad's when I moved in with my mom and his cats whizzed on all my pieces which were in a big box. :( I think my grandma actually still has 2 of my Blacktron baseplates though, I made a spaceport cantina with Starspeeder 3000 and left it at her place, it eventually got knocked down but I think she might still have the pieces. Those old space ones were awesome base plates.

Good thing that I saved my sons collections. We still have both the black space baseplates and the crater ones. :D

Cool! Luke is minus a hand! Was that just done for the picture, or did Lego mention that the hand was removable. I know to can pull the hands out of the arms (except for the NBA Basketball players, as I found out when I tried to make a custom black Imperial officer).

I eBayed a Cloud City set tonight, not big on paying the $$$ but I just "have" to have it. At least I didn't pay $100. :D

Plus I'm buying up some more extra Final Duel 2 so I can drop in more Imp Officers and Stormies, and I LOVE what ManCan said about incorporating the Cloud Car and Lobot. ;)

My set came tonight and I'm pretty excited about it. I haven't opened it yet and I probably won't for a short while because I have other sets to do but this one should be fun.

I bought some more Final Duel 2 sets which are going to be perfect for adding a few officers and of course more Stormies. There's no way I'll settle for a single-Stormie Cloud City. :D

KH, are you still interested in getting this set ? :beard:

If anyone is interested in getting this set, some company on ebay is selling tons of them starting at $17.50. Every day they stick 4-5 on ebay and they've been going for anywhere between $45-$60 for the final bid. Plus the shipping is not too bad--$11. I got two of them last week for the price of one at retail. :D

I saw these as well. Im happy to learn from you that it is the whole cloud city set, not just the part that the picture showed in the details part of the auction...

did you also notice that some of those auctoins had 11 dollar shipping and some had 28? wonder what that was about.

I'm wondering if that seller got them from walmart.com or some common middleman. They both use that same picture of the Vader/Luke duel scene.

I emailed them about the shipping price discrepancy and they said that is was a goof up on their part. They should all ship for $11.
