New GTA game coming to PS2 on 10/19/04!!! WOHOOO!!! Granted, there really isn't much info on the plot or screenshots yet, but i still thought i'd share. Does the title of "San andreas" give the impression this takes place out West? I always heard that they were going to take the series overseas, but maybe that could be an option; ya never know! Check out this link for more info! cheers!!

With San Andreas in the title it sounds like a post-Big One L.A.

Nah, I heard it was going to be like the 70's Las Vegas (since 3 was in the 90's, Vice was 80's). San Andreas might be a fictional town in the desert near the fault line.

I had heard that rumor too, that sounds like a good theory you've got there. The only thing that doesn't seem to jive so far is the actual title's font, reminds me of the old school gang stuff here in LA from back in the day. I can't wait, Vice City is one of my favorite games, and although GTA3 cheeses me off sometimes, it's great too, and I really want more.

Hmmm...I'll probably buy it. But I tend to get distracted, and then eventually bored with the Grand theft Auto games.

Well this series is one of the only reasons I haven't parted with my PS2 so I'll be getting it too. Due to the graphical limitations of the PS2 I would've liked to have seen it released on the X-Box though. Still I'll be happy as long as Rockstar takes their time with this title and gets all the bugs out of it for once.

I've heard the Las Vegas idea floating around for some time now too. The rumored title was GTA: Sin City but this is the first I've heard of the San Andreas idea. Maybe we'll get lucky and get 2 GTA games. Doubtful, but how cool would that be?

Kids, we have screenshots. This game is going to be BEYOND awesome. Enjoy the pics and prepare droolin' bibs. :D

Edit: i was going to post the pics, but i had to crop them down too much to fit the requirements and it just made the pics too small and crappy. So, just click here:

Looks sweet. So from those shots I'm assuming you can now hijack bicycles. lol

I knew it was going to be street-gang themed, that's too bad because IMO that's pretty limited. The whole lowrider street thug thing feels so played out to me.

Anyway, I think these are screengrabs of cut-scene movies, not actual gameplay, so I don't think it gives any clue to bike-stealing or not.

BTW, are those the Watts towers in the background of pic 2? This game is going to catch so much more heat in the media over this theme.

Jedi_Master_Guyute

JT- can you elaborate on why the Watts towers are a huge deal and why it's going to be attract heat from the media? i'm curious.

I saw this at another gaming site, a brief synopsis:
Genre: Action Adventure
Systems: PS2
Developer: Rockstar North
Publisher: Rockstar Games
Release Date: October 2004

"Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets." This is, verbatim, the plot summary Rockstar released. This sets the scene for the next game. We are (as rumored) going to be playing as a man from San Andreas in the early nineties. Looking at the screenshots, you can see that it is going to have a very gangster atmosphere. Expect the music in this game to be much the same way. There is not much more information on the game yet, but expect more to be released in the coming months, if not more at E3.

I dunno how to explain it really, I guess because the Watts towers are a symbol of a specific downtrodden area home to a... "focused" ethnic stereotype, using the image of the towers in this game would be drawing more from specific negative ethnic stereotypes than any previous GTA.

That plot synopsis, sounds like this is going to be a crack-era play on the Blaxploitation flicks, perhaps somewhat in the vein of New Jack City and the like. It sounds interesting, but I don't really see how this is a Grand Theft Auto concept, this is a revenge story, what's stealing cars and mugging people got to do with that?

I never played the original 2 top-down view GTA's but a friend of mine told me the other day that they had three cities in those games you could go to. They were Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas. So I guess we should've seen the whole San Andreas location coming in this new installment.

I'm looking forward to this game but I kinda agree with you JT about the whole gangster angle being played out. I still like the idea of the game being set in Vegas during the 70's that was floating around for a while much better.

I'll be darned, I did not know that about GTA having those 3 city names, but I just looked it up on a walkthrough FAQ and it's true! However, apparently, San Andreas comes before Vice City in that game.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to another GTA game, but not so much this one. ;)

What?? Tommy Vercetti rules!

"You're messing with the beast!"

"I run this town now, ME!"

"This is the last dance for Lance Vance!"

But yeah, if he's in it at all, it'll likely only be a cameo.

IGN has a MASSIVE Q&A section on their site about this game. Here is the link: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/527/527358p1.html

I'll touch on some of the points i found interesting:
1. The game has 3 cities, making it roughly 5 times larger than Vice city.
2. You can recruit gang members to help you out.
3. you can FINALLY swim!
4. you can go to the gym and workout to be stronger and more athletic. EAt too much, you get slower and weaker. Work out too much, you can tired. VERY AWESOME IDEA!
5. You can bike in this game, but you have to tap a button repeatedly in order to replicate pedalling.
6. You have to eat to survive!

anyway, read away if you care to. It sounds awesome!! :crazed:

This months EGM had an article on San Andreas as well and the game sounds like it has so much more going for it this time around. A few other things in addition to Guyute's post that I thought sounded interesting were...

-Not only do you get access to 3 whole cities but you'll have all the open countryside in between to explore as well. You'll cruise through lush forests and stark deserts, visit backwater hick towns, and wind along sky-high mountain roads.

-Since your character now has to eat you can stop at fast food-joints that will keep your character's new stamina bar topped off. Eat to much of it though and you'll develop a spare-tire gut. :nerv:

-Las Venturas (based on Las Vegas) obviously has plenty of casinos and it's been reported that players will even be able to gamble in them. :greedy:

-The whole goal of buying property and building a criminal empire will play a larger role this time. Whether you can buy and actually run your own casino remains to be seen. :Ponder:

-San Fierro (based on San Francisco) will obviously not be as vertically challenged as the flat town that was Vice City. This should make for some wild car chases. :crazed:

-San Andreas star Carl Johnson comes with mondo attitude, plus new hand-to-hand fighting moves and dual-pistol gunplay. :rambo:

Man October 19th can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned. This game is going to be freakin' huge!!

JediTricks
07-01-2004, 07:42 PM
NO!!!!! No stupid hand-to-hand fighting moves, that is not what the GTA series is supposed to be about, leave that clunky stuff to True Crime: Streets of LA (and might I add that I pretty much hated that game's hand-to-hand fighting system). Man, this game seems like it's going off-course more and more.

This game looks really good. I usually don't too pumped over new games (except for Battlefront) but this looks good. And you get to drive a lawn mower now who hasn't wanted to drive a lawnmower in a video game.

I think the only real questions that remain about this game are the music playlist, (a little NWA or Public Enemy would be nice :D ) whether or not you can actually own and run your own Casino in Las Venturas and who will voice the characters. I'd sure like to see Ice Cube do the voice of the main charactrer CJ or maybe Larenz Tate (Menace II Society).

So is there anybody addicted to this game yet? I've probably logged in about 10 hrs. and I still haven't left Los Santos. I figured I'd list a few things I really love about this new installment.

-The new environment is HUGE. Having only explored Los Santos I'd say it alone is probably 5 times larger than Vice City.

-The new role playing elements add quite a bit to the overall gaming experience. Being able to change your physical appearance and your wardrobe makes it pretty easy to develop a character that suits your taste.

-You can now respond verbally to anybody on the street you feel like. By pressing one way on the D-pad you'll give a negative response and by pressing the other direction you give a positive response. This can be very funny.

-The voice acting is superb. Right off the bat you'll notice Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Penn as the 2 dirty cops that enjoy harassing CJ. Some of the more notable voices include Ice T, Peter Fonda, James Woods and Debi Mazar.

-Finally being able to swim is nice. Gone are the days of falling off a pier and drowning instantly.

-The BMX bike is sweeeet! Riding through the hills and exploring all the more hidden areas is much more fun with the addition of the bicycle.

-Having your homies roll with you is to cool. Who thought drive-bys would ever serve as a form of entertainment.

-The hand-to-hand moves work great and the targeting system is much improved.

-Money is much tougher to come by in Los Santos. After most missions you earn respect not cash so watching how you spend it is much more important.

-There are mini-games everywhere. Walk into a bar and not only can you play pool for cash but you can play every video game in the joint. There is even a 2-Player mode if you feel like playing pool with a buddy.

I could go on all day about how good this game turned out but I think if you enjoyed the previous installments you owe it to yourself to check it out first hand. The glitches from the old games have been fixed and the graphics are improved but unfortunately its still pretty obvious this game is pushing the limits of the PS2 pretty hard. The music choices and stations are great but for me probably nothing could beat the music in Vice City. I don't see how any GTA fan could come away from this game disappointed, it's just that good.

Your not the only one that's hooked. I think I've put well over 10 hours and I think that I'm only 25% done. The graphics are awesome and my favorite part is taken short cuts through the hills instead of sticking to the main roads.

And for those who care I've found one SW reference and it's on an RC board where you use a mini gun to shoot down RC planes and a guy that's with you says "great kid don't get cocky". I thought it was pretty sweet.

EVERYBODY SHOULD BUY THIS GAME!!!

I still have 2 more things to do in VC, finish the firefighting missions and the ambulance missions. I hate both of those, they're SUCH a pain to do. At least in GTA3 they're cumulative so you can take a friggin' break.

JMG, I know the level you're talking about, I hate HATE HATE that race because it's so stupid - if I can beat the guy, why would I bother hiring him? And then, the final insult is that you do all the important driving in the level after that! The key to winning that race is just solid driving, your car is actually faster and handles better, so just don't let him get too far ahead and he'll eventually get hung up by the cops or traffic or lost in a turn, then you make your move.

Jedi_Master_Guyute

Well, i'm proud to say that Vice City is now MINE!! Only took, what, two years to beat? :p I just hadn't played it for months and then decided i needed to beat it before getting SA. woohoo!!!

Anyway, despite my resoultion to get this game, i'm still going to wait until i go home for break in a few weeks. I know that once i get it, i will not study for my finals and all hell will break loose. It's pretty much an unspoken rule at home (i live with 6 other guys on a college campus) that none of us can get it as that'll be the end of our good grades. BUT, i am hearing nothing but positive reviews about it from friends who have it. One guy told me that he caused like a 100 car pileup on the highway and just watched the chaos and another dude told me about the weightlifting system and all that. It sounds great! Winter break, SAn Andreas is mine, dammit! :D

Okay, i succombed to the pressure and got thsi game today. After writing a 12 page paper, i sat down and enjoyed this game immensely. The boards are RIDICULOUS and i cannot believe how much there is to do in this game so far. So far, i'm about halfway bulked up and just picked up some clothes, which was great as i have no fashion sense.

I'm loving this game so far.

also, how do you parachute? :D

Slicker
11-13-2004, 12:42 PM
There are certain places in the game that have parachutes. The main one that comes to mind is in the badlands which is in the lower left hand corner of the map. Go to the very top of the mountain and there will be a parachute and a BMX bike along with a ramp. Put 2 and 2 together and it's more fun then it sounds. Also when you get quite far into the game on top of the Emerald Isle casino you can jump off of the top of the building. I'm about 75% through and it has been non stop fun since the beginning.

Jedi_Master_Guyute

thanks for your help! I found a few places where the parachute was. My buddy, who is an aviation major, found a few ways we can jump the wall into the airport and we took a plane to as high as we could, hit triangle, came onto the wing and jumped off and did some skydiving. Stick to Vice Point for the ambulance missions. It is actually a lot easier to do early in the game when all the bridges are closed because you do not have to deal with the other island pickups. I found that keeping my fingers locked on R1 for the emergency brake works wonders for preventing the accidental Lizzie Grubman. There is a really great FAQ for the mission on gamefaqs. It is really funny.

Thanks, I'll give that a try, but I don't want to redo the whole game again so I'll have to risk 'em. I wish they were like GTA3 where you could do a few at a time then stop and start over.

Grand Theft Auto Rating Changed To "Adults Only"

By Personal Tech Pipeline Staff Wed Jul 20, 5:38 PM ET

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has changed its rating for the game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" from "Mature 17+" (M) to "Adults Only 18+" (AO) because of a controversial modification that enables a sex scene.

The game's publisher, Rockstar Games, has reportedly agreed to the "adults only" label and said it will publish a new version of the game without the sex scene.

The modification, which is called the "Hot Coffee" modification and which can be downloaded free from several Web sites, enables the main character to engage in sex with a woman during game play.

Rockstar had early stated that the download re-writes its code to add the scene. The ESRB investigation found, however, that the scenes exist in the commercial version of the game, and that the download merely unlocks what's already there. Many stores, including Best Buy and Circuit City have already removed the game from shelves.
And from what I've read, it is not only accessible on PC, but you need a Gameshark (or something similar) to access it on PS2.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before something like this were to happen with a game.
Heck, I think the GTA series could still have a big hit with a Adults Only rating, but if (and only if) stores would still sell the game.

Jedi_Master_Guyute

wait wait, you can access the mod on Ps2?!?! I didn't know this. and frankly, this really sickens me. I mean, here we are: a country at war, raising gas prices and so many other problems and what is getting attention in the world: a freakin' video game?!?!!? Are you kidding me?!?! People, it's PIXELS HAVING SEX. It's a damned game, not reality. You can see the real thing on Cinemax every night for petes sake, what's next, banning cable?!!? You buy the game knowing it has bad things in it, don't be so surprised, ya know?

you know how this could be fixed: BETTER PARENTAL SUPERVISION. If parents would get off their keisters and know what their spawn are playing at their friends house, there wouldn't be any problems. I'm just glad I can play my PS2 version these days. and the rating of "Adults Only" is funny because now Rockstar can do WHATEVER they want for the next installment. I can't wait. :crazed:

Here's what I love, parents are largely the ones buying this game for their kids even though it is rated M for Mature and explains that it has violence and drugs and sex right on the damn box. The game is quite clear that when CJ goes on a date with a girl and she invites him in for coffee or when CJ picks up a prostitute and parks they're having sex, but now that we actually SEE it it's somehow a reason to have a ****-attack? "Oh no, the game I bought for my 7-year-old that says it's rated M, suggested for teens 17 and over, has something that's not appropriate!!! Call the governor, get the president, we're gonna put a stop to poorly-drawn digital characters actually showing a crude video game representation of fornication right now! This isn't my fault for buying my little kid the game even though it already had blatant sex sounds in it that are actually part of the intended game experience, it's the company's fault for leaving a piece of unused code for an abandoned concept deep inside the program which can't be accessed except by outside technology which I probably also got for my kid and knowledge which I fully allowed my little rugrat to dig up because he or she is already a tiny pervert!"

Anyway, Rockstar is supposedly getting a new version ready sans the Hot Coffee part that'll be M-Rated, but it's been almost a year, who is still buying this game anyway? (It's a fantastic game, but shouldn't pretty much EVERYBODY already have it at this point?)

The new NFL Blitz game for 2005 subtitled The League does not have a NFL license so they can do what they want. The Redhawks (aka Atlanta Falcans) have a left handed black QB that wears #7... his name? Ron Mexico! (For those that don't know Ron Mexico was an aliais that Michael Vick is accused of using in a lawsuit brought on by a female that said Mr. "Mexico" gave her an STD.) On the back, it says the same and then next to that in clear text it says...

Blood and Gore
Intense Violence
Strong Language
Strong Sexual Content
Use of Drugs
You stupid old biddy moron! "Oh my god, the game I bought my 14-year-old grandson has sexual content, I better sue because he could have seen it." NO **** *******! Maybe you should have used your goddamned glasses before buying it, I suppose it'd be too much to insist on you using your worthless brain though. People like this should be shot out of a cannon into the sun.

I'd like to be shot out of a cannon and into the sun, but then I'd have to sue on the account that its too hot and I got burnt.

On a serious note though you got to love the latest claims going around D.C. on the matter. The ESRB's descriptions are "too vague to be understood"? It dosen't exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out "strong language" or "drug use" the last I checked.

May they thought "gore" meant Al Gore?
Or they thought "use of drugs" meant prescription drugs?

Hey I say give it a try, what about all the other stupid lawsuits that people have won over the last dozen or so years? If there is a warning on a machine/products its likely there for a reason. :crazed:

Anybody in Washington who says that:

Blood and Gore
Intense Violence
Strong Language
Strong Sexual Content
Use of Drugs
is in any way confusing really needs to be convicted of Felony Stupidity and forced to give up politics forever. How much clearer could it be?!? I know the "big government" types on both sides of the aisle would prefer either that this not be sold at all, or if that pesky constitution gets in the way of that, then at least having the whole cover be just a huge version of the rating, but come ON!
