View Full Version : The shame of Brian's Toys

This was in the current newsletter from Brian's Toys :
Also available the super RARE Saga Exclusive Cantina Scenes Wave 2!*
*This is the extremely rare set of Dr. Evazan, Kitik Keed'kak, and
Wuher each on individual cards. Hasbro has canceled or delayed the
shipment of these items, and only an extremely low quantity are
known to exist. It is believed that these 3 figures will be
available at some future point in a 3-pack set.
Any customer that has pre-ordered these items at standard pricing
($14.99-$21.99 each) will be contacted when he 3-pack set is
They are selling the set for $599.99.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd be a little p.o.'d if I'd pre-ordered this set with them, then found out that they got it in, but were not going to honor by pre-order so that they could sell it for 40 times what they offered it to me for. Basically they are scalping from their own customers. It seems like a real fine way to maintain their customer base.

That is a horrible thing to do. I hope that these figures do come out in the OTC collection and all these e-tailers get burned on this and have to sell them for retail.

This is one of the biggest reasons I do not shop at Brian's toys (only once and they tried to jack the price up for some silly reason back then as well)
These figures are rehashes (except for Kit) and if they had a pre-order then it should be honored, not try to rape the buyer because it's now rare, what a piece of hogwash on their part. I could care less if I find any of them to be honest and could care even less about BT's.

Just one more reason to stay away from the biggest scalper out there. :p

I'm a collector in the UK, and so am used to paying over the odds for almost everything. I can't help but agree with the general mood of the forum - Brians Toys are a blight on the hobby. I have often dealt with them, and seethed inwardly at the prices. When I found that my pre-order for the cantina wave was being cancelled, it confirmed what I had always suspected about his business. Why can't I find an ethical dealer ?

Honestly, that is really messed up on their part. They shouldn't be able to do that. If the individual carded figured were the ones pre-ordered then they could be taken to court for that. If i had the money for a lawyer and if i pre-ordered them I would. That really gets me mad.

The real kick in the head is here:
http://188.8.131.52/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2f206%2e230%2e105%2 e175%2facatalog%2f&WD=cantina&PREVQUERY=TB%3dA%26GB%3d%26SS%3dcantina%26PR%3d%2d 1&PN=Saga%2ehtml%23a12517#a12517
Brians still has these listed for PRE-ORDER!!! WTF?!?! With the pics from the SAGA line and a little disclaimer:
It is believed that this figure will be available at some future point in a 3-pack set, along with Kitik Keed'kak and Wuher.
Any customer that has pre-ordered these items at standard pricing ($21.99) will be contacted when the 3-pack set is available.
Then they have seperate prices listed for "contacting" the customer about the 3 packs:
$21.99 - Dr. Evazan C-9
$20.99 - Dr. Evazan C-7/8
$14.99 - Kitik Keed'Kak C-9
$13.99 - Kitik Keed'Kak C-7/8
$21.99 - Wuher C-9
$20.99 - Wuher C-7/8
So what will the price be for the 3 pack? Each line item states that price in their disclaimer! If the list price was $13.99 the disclaimer reads:
Any customer that has pre-ordered these items at standard pricing ($13.99) will be contacted when the 3-pack set is available.
What a joke. First they mess over their customers to make a few extra bucks, then they continue to sell these as "Saga Exclusives PRE-ORDERS"!
I have never been a fan of Brian's, but I still consider them a step up from scaplers. A true scalper, buys up figures from retailers, thus making it difficult, or impossible for collectors, kids and fans to find product at retail for a fair price.
These are opportunistic scum who deserve a fate worse than death, they deserve to go broke buying toys that are doomed to be peg warmers and not be able to return them! They deserve to watch these same figures rot in their basements and see these things hog up Ebay for years at below retail cost!
Brian's on the other hand buys direct from Hasbro and sells for marked up prices because, technically, they are providing a service. They buy and have product shipped direct from Hong Kong, so they can be the first to the market. This also costs them more and they pass the cost on to customers who "gotta have it first". Or as I like to call them "suckers!".
But when they do stuff like this with their PRE-ORDER items, it is pretty underhanded and it only serves to further demonstrate the extent of their greed!
I can't say I didn't see something like this becoming an issue though. Let's see, Brians is first to market because they buy direct from Hong Kong, so to compete E-tailers started PRE-ORDERS. To keep up with other E-tailers, Brians hops on board with these PRE-ORDERS, before you know it, people are PRE-ORDERING figures that won't even be available for another 9-10 months! The whole system is set up like a house of cards.
Anyway, I never cease to be amazed at how low some people will sink to make a buck.

I only once tried to buy something out of their site only to find it cheaper somewhere else. boy do they overcharge everything :frus:
I don't see a big deal here.
The preorders were for figures which were going to be released to the general public. If I'm not mistaken, this line was cancelled and they were never officially "released" by Hasbro. So now these figures have become some sort of "protoype" affordable only to Steve Sansweet and collectors of his buying power.

I guess the big deal is that if someone just wanted kitik keedkak, and not the others, you are now screwed.
Brians escort service wants you to pay 1000% more for the single figure, when the three pack will be out in a couple of months.
And and anyone not wanting ponda and the doctor are stuck with them.

anyone who spends that much on three figures however rare is a complete mug. i would love to know how much their stock cost them but i bet brians toys know there is some schmuck somewhere who will take them off their hands.
