You didn't include the game system with your 182 and 165 picks. I'm guessing N64 and SNES respectively. If anything, it shows I did read the list.

It's good list, though. I agree with your overall picks. You're definitely showing respect to the classics and not just filling it up with the big hits of late. Think along the lines of someone making Soul Calibur II, the GTA games, and other very recent hits their top picks.

Again, good list, and pick 55: "What a horrible night to have a curse."

Thanks JBF.

I hate when I see a lot of "lists" that only pay attention to games from the PS1 era and on.

Also, thanks for pointing out the typos, which I just fixed.

Castelvania II was an excellent game, even if I thought it was rather easy at the time. Of course, the original was so hard, it probably just SEEMED easier.

Yeah, it was easy, but it took a break from the series that was never seen again until Symphony. Dracula was too much of a pushover, though, but the multiple endings for the game were a nice addition.

I also note you don't have anything included in the way of PC games on your list. I've not played a lot of PC games, since many of them seem to try and market only multiplayer with nothing challenging offered in single player.

Though those early Star Wars flight sims always have been a favorite of mine.

I didn't include PC games becuase I don't play them often at all. And i think in general, you are right about how they are designed. I have always preferred to play consoles.

Re-reading your list, I noticed twogreat games that were absent.

Empire Strikes Back - Atari 2600
Excitebike - NES

I could of missed them on your list, but those two would make a top 100 list for me.

I didn't forget those games.

I enjoyed, and own them both. However, I found the Empier Strikes game repetitive even back then, and Excitebike almost made the list, but fell just short.

I didn't forget it. I just never really played it. So it had no place in my top 200. :)

Great list. I've played the majority of the games you listed but unlike you I rarely go back and revisit the classics. Not that I still wouldn't enjoy them but my video game time is limited so I devote it to playing new games and with the amount of quality product thats out there today I still find myself passing by titles that deserve my attention. So because of that I sold my video game collection some time ago and it was quite extensive considering I owned every gaming machine with the exception of the Neo-Geo and the Turbografix. I do get my dose of the classic style from time to time though because the only games I play on my GBA are the old-school 2D style games like Castlevania and Metroid.

great list, but my brain started hurting abuot #150 so i jumped to your top 10. Everyone should make a top 25 or top 10 list and we could compare our results...do we need another thread?

Great list! Really well rounded. It's nice to see some props going out to a few Jaguar games. I've played a lot of that stuff... but it's nice to see a few that I haven't.

"3. Chrono Trigger - SNES"

I've never played it... I'll have to find a copy now.

Man, this is an awesome list and I wholeheartedly agree with your top picks. I am a huge final fantasy 7, 9, and 10. Chronotrigger was one of the best games I've ever played. Did I miss it or did Secret of Mana not make the cut? This was also an incredible game.

Thanks for the replies.

I am glad some people like where I put FInal Fantasy 2 (IV) and Chrono Trigger.

Plasticfetish, you definately need to pick up and play Chrono Trigger. You can find it cheaper in a compilation for the PS1, than buying a SNES copy.

Secret of Mana is on the list at #27.

Oops, my bad. I am just relieved to see it on your list.:) My opinion of your list would have lost a few points if Secret of Mana was not there.:classic: Kidding of coarse!! The time it took you to do this had to be incredible.
