View Full Version : What's your level of SW interest right now?

05-17-2004, 05:42 PM
With Episode III only a year away, the recent Clone Wars cartoon micro-series, the upcoming DVD release of the Classic Trilogy, rumors of a live-action Star Wars television series on the horizon, the fan club changing hands, and Hasbro toy lines shifting gears, this poll is trying to gauge what is the general level of fan interest in Star Wars at this very "in flux" moment. And once you've voted, why not let us all know what aspects of Star Wars you're most looking forward to.

My interest level is high right now. All the upcoming stuff is great. Cant wait to get the DVD's finally. EP3 is highly anticipated by me as well.

High interest...as always...pretty much. Excitement started to wane a bit shortly after the SAGA line hit. :( But it's back with a vengence!

High points:

The upcoming DVD release!!! YEAH!!! even if it is the weak SE version

The upcoming C3 celebration!!!

The new movie, just 1 year away!!!

Vintage style packaging to celebrate the upcoming DVD release.

The end of the SAGA line?!?! Hopefully. :D

Low point:

Re-carded figures.

I put strong but only because of all the things sith killer listed above. I am still not as hyped as I was before every other movie. Probably not even as much as I was a month ago. It is probably just a phase I go through when I realize all the money I spend on this stuff before I can justify it in my brain. When they announce some new figures It will probably turn me around until then every recard will continue to lower my excitement.

I think my interest is pretty high, compared to an average person, but low for a major fan. So I voted for moderate. The only big thing really looking forward to is E3. I'm indifferent toward the DVD release because the only DVD player I have is in my computer. I have not bought a new SW book (novel or comic) for a couple of years. I've never cared about any SW TV shows. And Hasbro's Saga line pretty much did me in on the current line of figures last year.
But on the up side I'm still interested in what Hasbro is making even if I don't buy, I'm also game for what Lego is doing, and my interest in vintage items has never been higher. So while my overall interest level might be low, I very happy with where my interest level is for the time being.

My interest is growing, but not because of anything due from Hasbro. I'm finally getting the ol' display room whipped into shape! :D

My real incentive now is to complete my POTF2 collection.

I've dropped to moderate of late. Mostly because I've been working my hind end off so I don't have a lot of spare time to even think about anything else. But also because we're in an off movie year. I get my not-so-regular KEBco shipment which is always cool, but I don't have a lot of time to deal with toys right now so that's limited. We've pretty much talked the movies to death in one way or another so it's now a waiting game until Episode III hits and we can compare scorecards again. The DVDs are good, but not enough to get me in a tizzy about or anything.

I don't know. The Star Wars thing just isn't the same and is only getting worse it seems. I'm far more excited about seeing SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW than I am about watching another Star Wars film. If only Lucas would recognize that the saga needs a jolt of innovation and life and hand it over to young blood then maybe he'd excite the old generation again. But that's moot, so....

My interest has been strong since i was 7.

My interest has been strong, it's just that my satisfaction is not always as high.

05-18-2004, 01:07 AM
I voted "strong" as well.

I enjoyed the cartoons and I'm looking forward to episode 3. (It's almost impossible for me not to be somewhat excited about it.) The DVD release will be nice, but it could be... nicer. The toys have been a little hard to find, but very fun lately. In general, I'm enjoying the toy hobby very much, and I'm looking forward to what's coming next.

I have to admit, my interest has really spiked in the last month or so thanks to my new friend -- "Knights of the Old Republic." The Xbox has been grabbing a lot of what little spare time I've had, but I'm giving it up happily. Very much looking forward to KOTOR 2 also. (Time to go earn some more darkside points now.)

05-18-2004, 11:47 AM
I can't wait to go to celebration 3! My three best friends and I have been planning in earnest for the past few months. The DVDs are gonna be okay, but I'm more jazzed about the bonus material than watching the Short Bus version of the OT. But Uncle George wants our money.

I haven't really been collecting the toys and memorabilia as much as recent years, but I don't think that really deters from the fact that I have a definite need to see the next movie.

05-18-2004, 12:32 PM
I'm far more excited about seeing SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW than I am about watching another Star Wars film.

I'm actually pretty stoked about that upcoming movie also, why'd they bump it back? Were they afraid audiences would confuse it with Day After Tomorrow? (another movie I'm really excited about)

Anyways, I had to choose "light" to guage my Star Wars interest right now. I'll pretty much keep my eyes peeled for the occasional cool item, but I really have no interest in becoming a hardcore collector again.

05-18-2004, 03:13 PM
My interest has and will never die down, whenever i go out and see anything with starwars on it, i get a warm feeling of comfort, nothing else has ever done this to me.... ever since 1977 :)

05-18-2004, 03:59 PM
I am the biggest Star wars fan I personally know (I know there are bigger fans out there, I just don't know you personally). So my previous interest is all I have to compare to and I would say my current interest is moderate. Not super psyched about anything right now.

The new toys look cool :) , but I think there are too many re-hashed/re-packed figures coming out :frus: so the pro and con there balances out.

I really enjoy the EU comics and books :D , but I am frustrated with not having a strong published timeline that explains how the artoon series fits into the clone wars timeline  . Again the pros and cons balance out.

I am looking forward to EIII :classic: , but am peeved about the fan club change :greedy: ... and hold neutral feelings about the DVD's :ermm: (finally on DVD = yeah... no choice of classic v. SE = boo). So again... pros and cons balance out.

One plus side has been that I've found all the 3 3/4" toys that have been released so far this year :nerv: ... again there is a balancing con and that is that a lot of the later stuff from last year never hit shelves here :dis: .

right now my feelings about everything is quite MODERATE...

I will begin preparing for a one day teaching "Chat Room" at a local educational consortium called "Don't Underestimate the Classroom Side of the Force" in which I will present several sample lessons I've developed to tie together economics, religion, government, geography, and literature for senior high school students. Participants will bring their mini-lessons and we will "Chat" about their uses. This coming year will be a perfect time to bring these areas together. This all goes down the first Friday in October. Got to keep the energy high, it will be my 31st year in the classroom.

I put decreasing but meant to put moderate so maybe some one could change that for me?? *hint hint ;)

Anyhoo, since I feel moderate, I'll explain:

I'm not at all excited for the new movies really so my interest there is pretty much a big fat zero, but I'm sort of excited for the OT dvd (I already have a set on dvd that were transfered from the laserdisc and they are rockin') and all the new OT figures that have been/are coming out! I'm excited for celebration 3 because of the OT and because I'll get to meet up with a great friend and live nothing but star wars for a few days.

As far as that craptacular fan club, that REALLY made my interests wane but like underwear, I'm sure my mood will change! lol

My love for the OT is really the only thing that keeps me going!

05-18-2004, 11:25 PM
I have to say decreasing. I mean I still like the stuff, but it's starting to get old. I got so much time and money invested in this I feel I have to continue. :ermm: I do still get a bit excited when I find something in the stores, so that means something. I just got jacked by EE so I'm a bit POed right know. They sold my Unleashed Leia to another customer when I said I'd come down to pick it up. All the $$ I spend there and they pull this.:frus:

05-19-2004, 10:25 AM
With the exception of J'Quille, I've been finding the new figures pretty regularly. That's a nice change. The new stuff seems to be hitting the stores.

The packaging for the OTC figs looks great (brings back great memories from my childhood!) but I would like to see more new figs released.

* Cause i hate the changes to Fan Club
* Grew tired of re pack figures and silver "exclusives"
* dont feel so much fanatic now, i play the games (jk2 and Swg) but thats about it for star wars and me for now.

hopefully when the OT DVD comes out interest will grow again, but it takes more than that to show they really care for the fans.

05-20-2004, 12:28 PM
Very high. I can't wait until the DVDs come out as well as the movie next year. From what I've been hearing, the fight scene between Obi Wan and Anakin is going to be the most intense lightsaber duel of them all.

05-23-2004, 12:13 AM
Strong, because:

-The new Topps cards are 4 months away

-The OT DVDs are 4 months away

- Episode 3 is now less than a year away

kool-aid killer
05-23-2004, 02:08 PM
I chose moderate. Im still passionate about the toys and wouldnt drop the line at all, but the slow arrival of new figures is hard pressed to keep me entertained. Im not thrilled about the SE coming out, but will pick it up eventually. Other than that im highly anticipating the next movie.

05-23-2004, 03:20 PM
Strong....but thats nothing new.

Some of the things I'm excited for are:

-Hasbro's OTC/Vintage toy line looks great. Love the retro look and the emphasis on articulation in the Vintage line.

-Of course the OT on DVD, modified by Lucas again or not.

-There are some very promising SW videogames coming out this fall. SW Battlefronts and Republic Commando.

-We should be seeing the first EPIII teaser in about 5 months.

I think he said high. :beard:  :beard:

Looks like a lot of strong interest, followed by moderate & decreasing which together are still not as many as "strong". That's pretty cool, it's good to see a wide variety I think.

At this point, my interest is running really strong. Most of the OTC, all 12 of the VOTC, most of the OTC vehicle, and even some of the 12" line(which I almost never buy due to space considerations) are on my "to buy" list. I'm really excited to see what will come between all of this and the gap up until Ep3. Of course, I'm very interested to see what the Ep3 line will hold. I think in general people have to at least be more curious than they've been in what the future will hold for the SW line...

I'm really excited to see what will come between all of this and the gap up until Ep3. ...

I have a feeling that these 50 figures will get us up to EIII figures. There are a few other things coming as well such as the jedi council three packs, and the DVD four pack and the Galaxies Scout Trooper. I doubt we'll see much more until EIII except maybe some more Clone Wars Cartoon figures.
