Newsaskew.com reports straight from Kevin Smith himself...

So, as most of you probably already know, we took the "Lost Scene" from the "Clerks" script (what happened when Dante and Randal went into the funeral parlor for Julie Dwyer's funeral) and had the talented folks at Powerhouse Animation ("Heroes", "Ben Saves Jen" video game) bring it to life, complete with the voice talents of Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, and Joey Lauren Adams.
What you don't know is that it's completed, and man, does it look/play great! Top job from all involved.
And while you've gotta wait 'til Sept. 14th to check it out, here's a little taste: some cells, courtesy of Brad at Powerhouse Animation.

This set is shaping up to outstanding - a real treat for Kevin Smith fans. And hopefully this will be a sorta preview for the eventual "Clerks" animated movie, because Powerhouse Animation are the guys working on it.
Anyone who read the "Clerks: The Lost Scene" comic already know the story, but it'll be great to see it animated.
BTW, September 14th is also the day "Jersey Girl" is set for DVD.

No problem. I figured there were some Kevin Smith fans here that would like to know.

Other thing it may include :
- deleted scenes
- A new commentary with the whole cast
- A question and answer video with the cast and crew and interviews of fans
- A look back documentary
- The pilot to the ill fated/horrible live action tv series made some time in the mid 90`s (with Jim Brewer).
- The Mtv Jay and Silent Bob commercials
- The hilarious "Flying Car" short film from the Tonight Show
- and some music videos
- and more, I'm sure

More great news from Newsaskew today (Friday, June 4):

USA TODAY reports that the Clerks X DVD will arrive in stores a week earlier than we'd been reporting. The date is now OFFICIALLY September 7, 2004, a week before Jersey Girl's first DVD release. This set not only celebrates Clerks, but also View Askew's 10 years in the film business, and thus is the largest set to ever arrive. At a whopping THREE DVDs, it's now confirmed that there will be two full versions of the film (the original and extended cuts), Kevin and Scott's first film "Mae Day", and heaps more. Here's the article:
'Clerks' anniversary edition does overtime
To mark the anniversary of Kevin Smith's debut film, Miramax is releasing a three-disc Clerks: 10th Anniversary Edition (Sept. 7, $29.99) with two versions of the movie: the theatrical release and the original, which is about 10 minutes longer and has a new commentary from Smith and cast members.

Other extras include a documentary about the film; audition tapes; an animated missing scene; Smith's student film project, Mae Day: The Crumbling of a Documentary; and some of his journals.

"I found the journal I kept at Sundance, so they're putting that in," Smith says. "It's wide-eyed, so-this-is-the-movie-business kind of stuff."

Original rumors had the long-awaited "Oh, What A Lovely Tea Party" Jay & Bob Strike Back documentary film included, however it remains to be seen whether that will indeed be a part of this set or a future View Askew DVD release. With the release just a few short months away, expect a full feature list (as well as an early look at the entire set) soon.

Now we just need the 3-disc Mallrats and the circle will be complete! :)

(I'm serious, by the way. To anyone who doubts me, I say merely, "Your mama.")

Updated news from News Askew and Vincent Pereira. "Oh what a lovely Tea Party" the nearly 4 hour documentary on the New Jersey Saga has been bumped by Mirimax. They want it for a future DVD set, instead of including it on the Clerks DVD. Really a shame, since it was also supposed to have been on the J&SBSB DVD at one point. :(

Confirmation came in today for the September 7th release of Clerks: 10th Anniversary Edition. Three discs, suggested retail $34.99. With this announcement, we'll hopefully have more soon. We can say this much: Kevin revealed that two of the more anticipated items, the Clerks live action pilot, and the "Lovely Tea Party" documentary will NOT be a part of this set. Tea Party will see the light of day eventually, perhaps on its own disc or as a bonus on a future release. The TV pilot might be stuck up in some sort of legal bind. That's all we gots right now, but we'll let you know more about this set as we hear it, and hopefully have a nice early review for you this summer once the test discs roll out.

Kevin dropped by his message board the other day and dropped some serious information and pictures for the upcoming CLERKS X dvd. Spetember 7 can't get here fast enough!

View Askew's message boards are being upgraded today, so if those images won't expand just try back later in the day. They are really something to behold.

One thing re: the Sundance edit of CLERKS:

While talking to CLERKS X dvd producer Phil Benson before he interviewed for the new CLERKS X dvd documentary, he told me that he had the actual 16mm negative trims of the additional footage from the Sundance edit of CLERKS, and would be transfering that to HD and doing an HD re-edit combining the negative trim footage with the new HD-transfer of the theatrical cut of CLERKS in order to recreate the Sundance edit for this DVD. So unless something has drastically changed since I did my interview for this DVD in April, the Sundance edit will *NOT* be mastered from the old S-VHS tape that was used to master the deleted scenes for the original LaserDisc and DVD versions of CLERKS, but it will have been sourced entirely from the original film elements in High-Definition. At least, that's what I was told in April.

Vincent

Regarding "Tea Party", what I was told was that it was nixed by Miramax/Dimension- they want to release it seperately or as part of a different DVD. Kevin was NOT happy re: it being dropped- he wanted it on CLERKS X, but it was out of his hands.

But, it WILL be seen.

Oh, and I'm not on the "new" commentary, so I had no chance to be "too dry" this time around, but I guess the old one is intact so you can hear me in all of my dry glory on that classic commentary :-)

And thanks for the kind words from the folks who liked A BETTER PLACE- while not posting here or at www.mhvf.net, I'm hard at work scripting my next project (a horror film based on a short story by a major genre author), you should be hearing about it before too soon :-)

Yeah Kevin rocks, the documentary would have been cool, but I think it will be somewhere soon. Maybe they will put it on the second release of Jersey Girl to boost sales.

This thread has been dormant for a while...
Anyone else pick this up today?
I've only had a chance to watch the animated lost scene, "The Flying Car," and "The Snowball Effect."
The lost scene is pretty cool. And considering some fans have already read the comic and know the story, it's a very cool extra to have.
"The Flying Car" short film is almost worth the price alone.
"Th Snowball Effect" is probably one of the best making of documentaries I've ever seen. Very honest with a ton of things most fans have never heard.

Well, I picked it up as well as Jersey Girl. I have not watched either yet.

Nice distribution Best Buy. Went to three different ones on Wednesday and they were all sold out! Just ruined my whole day! But hey, I can get about 70,000 copies of Ladykillers.....

Yeah, I got to Best Buy at 10:30 am on Tuesday and there were 3 left.
Went to Target afterward and they had 1 left.
Seems pretty under ordered by the stores.

Well I finally watched the Lost Scene and after finally seeing it, i think its better that we get to. It really ties Clerks and Mallrats much more closely together.
