Hi All,

I've had no luck finding info on this at my usual haunts, so am hoping someone here may be able to assist.

I live in New Zealand and just picked up a 4 book box-set by publishers "sphere" that holds novelisations of Star Wars (George Lucas), The Empire Strikes Back (Donald F. Glut) and Splinter of the Mind's Eye (Alan Dean Foster), plus the Marvel Comics illustrated version of Star Wars. The colour photo pages in the SW & ESB novels are all intact and bound.

I would guess it was produced in (or shortly after) 1980 as a deluxe release of the ESB novelisation. The backs of all the books list the price for (combinations of) UK (all), Australia (all), New Zealand (all except ESB), Malta (all) & Eire (all except ESB).

Sphere Books Ltd. 30/32 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 8JL.

So looks to be a UK, Australia, NZ & Malta release only.

The Box itself has no dates. Just the book titles, 3x sphere logo, a few (c) 20th Century-Fox's. A TM: Trademark of Lucasfilm, Ltd. and the amusing tagline "Four star-blasting space-war spectaculars".

There's nothing non-standard about the novels themselves, except for the way they've been bundled together. Though the Marvel adaptation could be a unique compile for the box set, as it has no ISBN number, but likely the only rare / collectible part of the find is the actual box itself.

ESB: 0 7221 56537
Marvel SW: no number

I've never run across it before, and google (plus searches of likely places) don't seem to have it listed anywhere. I've checked the likely Star Wars websites out and posted at theforce.net in both the literature and collecting forums. No-one at those forums has heard of it (though a fellow New Zealander on the FanForce boards says she also has one),

Has anyone here got any idea where to go to find out more information about this set, and how rare it may be? Has anyone even come across it before?

Hey, welcome to the fourms! :D
Those are pretty neat. Ive never seen them before though.. Did you try looking on eBay for these?

I've never really used ebay before - I did a quick search, but all I found were 'splinter of the mind's eye' individual novels. Is it possible to search historical auctions too, or only current / recent ones?

The guy, Jeremy, who runs rebelscum.com hadn't heard of the set either, and I've written to Steve Sansweet, but I'm not sure if I had the right address due to SW Insider changing publisher, ay any rate I haven't heard back from him.

I'll let ya know what I find out. :)

Definitely some cool finds!!
