Gary Oldman in Talks for Star Wars: Episode III
Source: Douglas Management Group
Tuesday, June 22, 2004

Gary Oldman, who can currently be seen in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, is in negotiations to perform a character voice in Star Wars: Episode III, according to his reprentatives at the Douglas Management Group. Which character's voice he may perform is not revealed, yet a good guess would be that of General Grievous, the new villain of the final prequel.

Producer Rick McCallum previously said that "in 'Attack of the Clones', we saw that former Jedi Count Dooku was the political leader behind the Separatists movement and instigator of the Clone Wars. In 'Episode III', we'll meet General Grievous, the military leader of all the Separatist armies. He's part alien and part robot. Grievous is a master strategist and the greatest hand-to-hand Jedi killer the galaxy has ever known."

Oldman also stars in Paramount's upcoming The Longest Yard remake with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and Burt Reynolds. "Episode III" hits theaters on May 19.

IMO, Gary Oldman would be perfect for the voice of Grievous. Thinking of his voice from Harry Potter and comparing it to the voice from the Clone Wars cartoon, they are very similar. He can also be creepy and scary too, which is good. I hope he isn't some stupid senator or something.

This would be a cool choice for the voice. Hopefully it'll still sound somewhat like Oldman when the 'ol voice-processing is done.

Imdb.com has confirmed that Gary Oldman will be one of the "deadliest Star Wars villains" in Ep. III and that he will hunt down Anakin and Obi-Wan. It's on today's news page. If he should voice Grevious, I'm not sure that would be the proper choice; his voice is not that frightening.

Oldman to Play Deadliest 'Star Wars' Villain
British actor Gary Oldman will play the "deadliest" Star Wars villain ever in the franchise's final prequel Episode Three. The Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban star will voice character General Grievous, who is a part-alien/part-robot. And insiders say Oldman - who is considered to be one of the finest actors of his generation - was handpicked for the part by series creator George Lucas, who is a big fan of his work. A source says, "George thought Gary was the ideal choice." According to reports, Oldman's character will try and hunt down Jedi knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi in the film, which is due to hit cinemas next summer.

It is good enough for me as long as he is not doing the voice of Vader.
