They basically sold all the figures for 1.99. It was a huge help for army builders.

Pull up a chair, gather around the campfire, and listen with thine ears to a tale you will never forget . . .

yeah, basically what KH said. TRU clearanced their figures for $1.97, and not just Episode 1 stuff, which was the line at the time, but older figures as well.

I also picked up some rare Micro Machines and Action Fleet ships for that same price as well. Stuff that I never saw at retail, I got for just a few bucks.

While I never found a lot of figures, I did hear reports of people finding dozens of Commtech Stormtroopers, and rare figures like Swimming Jar Jar, Sio Bobble, TC-14 etc. plus fan club stuff like Wuher and Blue Carded Hoth Leia (which I got).

I know a guy who found like 20 CTC Stormies for that price all at one stop. A buddy of mine got me my carded Holo R2 for that price. Beast packs were going for $5, some were even sorta rare. It was a madhouse. Some of the MM stuff was a buck at the end! It was a crazy time.

I picked up a bunch of vehicles:

A-Wing, Vader's TIE, and Slave I for $7 each.

I also got the AT-AT for $25, but I think that was at KB.

I did pick up the AT-AT for 30 bucks at TRU at that time.

The best figure buys I've found in TRU around this time were a handful of Destroyer Droids (1.97), plus a couple CTC Stormtroopers, and the HTF R2 with Holo Leia.

I did buy an AT-AT at TRU shortly after New Years for $9.99 (really nice box too) but not sure if it was in 2000.

I never did see any AT-Ats clearance price at TRU (I'm still hoping Hasbro re-releases this). I did see a wall full of Commtech Vaders and Stormtroopers for $1.98. The soft goods Leia 2-pack I saw for $4 a piece and the TRU coin figures went down to around $5. And various vehicles for around $7-$10. Most were the expanded universe items which I wasn't into. I passed on the other vehicles because 1) I wasn't into vehicles at the time and 2) I didn't have the disposable income then that I do now.

The story also goes that Hasbro shipped out product that never shipped for really cheap i.e. dump it. Some of this product included Watto's Box, exlcusives, R2 w/holo leia, etc. Basically a lot of stuff that never hit the shelves in the first place hit the shelves at a low, low price.

The reason Hasbro cleared all this stuff out super-cheap was because they wanted to close 3 of their warehouses in an attempt to save some money. I guess selling these things for cents on the dollar was cheaper than paying to keep those warehouses running.

At the beginning of the purge, TRU had some of the exclusive 12" figures for $10 - $20. I remember guys buying cases of the 12" Luke and tauntaun off the floor. The AT-ATs were priced at $10 but then changed to $20. I got mine for $20.

I was fortunate enough to find several commtech stormies for $2 but it was at Christmas, not the summer.

I also think this was the year when the R2 with holo Leia was rumored to be appearing at TRU for $2 on Black Friday, too.

Sure was.

But...

All the AT-AT's were scalped where I lived (use to). Even at $20. A dealer called Jeff left his card with KB and TRU managers and arranged for them to leave the toys he wanted. So, for me, no R2 w/holo Leia, no Stormies, no AT-AT's. Luckily, one case with the Watto's Box was able to slip up and I got that.

I think it was also during this time the AF prototype sets came out, too. Or at least the first four for something like $3 each.

Those were good times.
