Much of the news centered around three simple letters: DVD. 2004 is the year to substantially expand your Star Wars DVD collection. While the Star Wars Trilogy is the biggest news for Force-fan videophiles, Sansweet announced the fall debut of Ewoks and Droids adventures on DVD. 20th Century Fox Home Video will release these animated adventures as well as the pair of made-for-television Ewok live action movies (The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor) this November and December.

For a minute I was afraid there was going to be another version of the OT DVDs! These sound very cool, I haven't seen much of these but I'll have to get them!

Maybe it will be an easter egg on one of the upcoming DVD's. We can only un-hope.

If this was already covered in another thread, my apologies, but the way Sansweet announced these at the SDCC was awesome.

"Here's your very first look at the DVD's you'll all want to own this year. . . ."

The lights dim, and we see cartoons! And the crowd goes wild! Wooooo! :D

I'm not sure why nothing from the Ewoks movies was shown in the clip, unless the "trailer" was prepared prior to the decision to do Ewoks or something. After all, TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!! is something of a cult figure.

I was hoping for that too, I wish it could have been a Special feature on something.

Anyway I am pumped for all the DVD news, I just hope the release the Complete run of the animated Droids and Ewoks in series sets.

I don't think we'll ever see the Holiday Special released. I think the most we can hope for at this point, would be the 'Boba Fett Cartoon' from the special could possibly turn up on the Droids Toon DVD. After all, it is one of the few redeeming things about the Holiday Special. Unless you're really eager to see Bea Arthur or Carrie Fisher sing again. :dead: :D

I'll probably get all these Ewok and Droids DVDs, but I'm only buying Ewoks for the scary theme song!

Carrie Fisher's singing in the Holiday Special is especially bad, and not just because she's singing words to the Star Wars main theme either. It's weird, I heard her sing in an ep of the last season of Laverne & Shirley and she was not bad, but in the HS she is awful

Here's some updated news on the Ewoks and Droids animated series releases. Pretty good price for them, if I must say. Can't wait for November. :)

Droids - Droids in Nov!
Posted by Gord Lacey - 8/25/2004

Following up on our news from July, Fox has announced that Droids will be released on November 23rd. The set is priced at $14.98 US and $16.98 CAN. With only 15 episodes in the series the entire run could easily fit on a single double-sided disc. We don't have any information on extras, but with a price that low we don't expect any.

Also coming the same day is the animated Ewoks series, and the two Ewok TV movies, Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor, both carrying the same SRP as Droids.

We hope to have more information, and artwork, when Fox makes it available.

That's because she was high during that! Every picture you see of her from that horrid special shows her with glassy eyes. It's hilarious!!! Hell... if I saw the script and was told I was under obligation to do that, I'd be high, too!!! :crazed:

I really like the DVD artwork. Man, I think I want these cartoons more than the OT on DVD. Finally will be able to see them again (and some episodes for the first time).

Yep, hopefully the Boba Fett 'toon will on the Droids disc. I think both were made by the same studio, Nelvana.

I want the HS too. It was truly horrible, yet strangely enticing. Some parts of it I had to fastforward, Ichy's porno-box being the main one. My friend has a bootleg copy. Methinks I shall ask to borrow it again soon, I'm feeling particulary masochistic.

Nice to hear they're only $15 each! Even though Droids should be less, or Ewoks should be more, or something, beause of the number of episodes on them. What do they mean by "double feature" on the box? Anyway I will pick these up, I saw some on tape a while back and they pretty good (I like the new CW series better, but still).

Sigh. These are the same 'animated movies' that were released on VHS a while back. I was really hoping to see the entire series, which would have been quite easy to deliver with both. A crying shame, if you ask me. :(

Yeah... but just remember - the show managed to do well enough without Shirley. This speaks volumes about Penny Marshall's talent. Could you imagine how shrill and whiny the show would have been had it just been Shirley?!!! :o

What if. . . ?

What if these sets (since JJB pointed out they were on VHS earlier) are coming out this year, and in a year or two, we get a nice "Star Wars: The Animated Adventures" set, featuring both entire series, remastered and with cool extras. And possibly the Boba Fett 'toon from the Holiday Special, too.

I mean, it does take a while to remaster old TV, and these suddenly came completely out of the blue. Maybe they've only had time to remaster a total of three hours worth so far.

Probably wishful thinking, but I can dream, right?

Er, I thought it was canned after 1 season of Laverne & Nobody, doesn't seem like it did THAT good. Still, I have to agree that if it was just ??? & Shirley, I would never have bothered to wait around long enough for the episode with Carrie Fisher in a Playboy Bunny costume singing lounge music. ;)

I never knew this thread existed until i used the search funtion today for "Ewok Adventures." I picked up all three of them today at Shopko, they came out somewhere along the lines of $27 and change but i was a bit concerned that all said "Full Screen." Where any widescreen versions released? If so these are going back. But reading through this thread has got me a bit upset, why not include every episode made? Oh well, i suppose if a they should put them all out i can always give these to my younger brother. :ermm:

I can't swear to it, but I think they would only be available in fullscreen. The two cartoons, definitely, should be fullscreen since they premiered on television. The Ewok movies first aired on American television, but at least the first was released theatrically in some other countries; however, I think it was filmed in fullscreen format and not presented in widescreen in these countries, so you should be okay.

At least until we get the "complete" Ewoks and Droids cartoons in a spiffy boxed set a couple of years from now. (Hint, hint, are you listening, George?)

BTW, if you're getting these in a store, Circuit City has them advertised for $8.99, which is the lowest price I'm aware of in any major national chain. (Though, of course, WM stores near Circuit City stores will probably undercut them by a few cents.)

It pretty much was, but it was still better executed than a Cindy Williams only programme.

But, yeah... Carrie Fisher in a Playboy bunny costume. Even though I'm gay, I can still appreciate the hotness that she was!

First, if you have Costco member, the set of three will only set you back $24.99.

Second, dear sweet tapdancing lord, those Ewok cartoons are BAD! I remember not liking them when they were on TV, but thought maybe it was because I was more into GIJoe and Transformers at that time. Nope, they're rancid.

Lucas denies the Holiday Special existed, but jumps to release this without even a clean remastering? What has gotten into that nut?

At least the Ewok movies are watchable. And TEEEEEEEEEK makes everything better!

Okay, so i opened these guys up yesterday, with intentions of watching one later that night. Crack them all open and what do i see, crappy silver disks. There are few things in life i hate more than a plain disc. How hard would it have been to just thrown a picture on them? I hate that ish! So disgusted i decided to do my homework instead. Maybe next weekend my disappointment will have faded.

They could have put pictures on them, but they would have had to do a double disc, and that would mean there would actually be room for *gasp* special features.
Plus, if they were double discs, they probably would've raised the price at least $5.

I only bought Droids (hopefully Santa will bring the other two), and I have mixed feelings on it.
It's cool to have, but it feels exteremely thrown together. It gives new meaning to "bare bones."
Bad art on the case (and insert), no special features, no theme song, and worst of all, the picture is horrible. It looks like an old VHS tape was tranferred to DVD. They could have at least cleaned the image up.

It still burns me that Lucasfilm/FOX didn't release the DROIDS/EWOKS animated series in the original episodic format. After watching them, I knew there were DROIDS episodes that aren't on the DVD. I always though Boba Fett made at least one appearance in the series.

On Saturday June 7, 1986, ABC aired The Great Heep, a one-hour DROIDS special written by Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt. This episode was another Mungo Baobob adventure.

The four The Trigon One episodes are also absent. They originally aired on ABC in September 1985. These feature Thall Joben, Jord Dusat, and Kea Moll, which were all made into figures in the vintage DROIDS line. Both Thall and Jord are into racing and they participate in the Boonta Eve speeder race. (That sounds familiar, huh?) This set of episodes did have an appearance by Boba Fett, which is why the figure was re-released in the vintage DROIDS toy line.

I hope we get another DVD with these episodes on them plus maybe the animated segment from the 1978 Holiday Special with the first appearance of Boba Fett. I'm sure it'll happen...

Oh, here is a maze I threw up on the web. You can print it off and help R2 find his buddy 3PO...

Maybe if the sales are/were strong enough, Lucasfilm will release another volume or two.

Nah, the DVD episodes are actually 8 the last 9 episodes of the Fall 1985 regular season.

So the first four series episodes, one of the Mon Julpa episodes, and the June 1986 one-hour special is still floating around out there in limbo. Fett appeared early on in the series, in one the first four epsiodes.

The Ewoks DVD is incomplete as well.

I don't really understand this low-quality half-a$$ed approach by Lucasfilm for this release. Unless FOX put the DVDs together and Lucasfilm just rubber-stamped what they did. I would think we would've gotten a better quality archival set.

Rocketboy

I stand corrected.
But as I said before, if sales are strong enough, there may be more in the future - Lucasfilm has said they want to release everything (minus the Holiday Special).

And I agree, they should have done it right the first time and done a better job with these.
