My brother, a sailor in the U.S. Navy and an unabashed Star Wars geek like myself, brought this to my attention. It's the service badge for VAQ-209 "Star Warriors", a reserve fighter wing of the Navy. His hopes are high that he gets assigned here someday :D

The local C-130 unit here uses the callsign "Vader". It's pretty cool to be flying along at night and hear/see a flight of "Vader"s passing through the sky. They just sound cool on frequency. :)

I happened to notice it on a big poster of all of the Naval plane squadrons. It was created in October of 1977 I think. If there is a God I hope I get stationed their but as far as know my job doesn't go their too often. Damn.

Here's yet more proof. This is the tail of an EA6-B Prowler. A friend took it while she was on the flight deck of the USS George Washington a couple of days ago.

Funny thing is, is that we're actually downsizing...alot. They're cutting down on signing bonuses, they're kicking out fatties and dirt bags, and making rules tougher because we just have too many men and women right now. It goes in cycles from what I hear so in a couple of years they'll be hiring again.

I know they are still taking pilots but the last I heard most weren't getting fast jets for assignments. Of course you could go to the Marines and still get your hands on a Prowler. :)

That's interesting, considering what's going on w/ the armed forces I'd never thought the Navy was cutting people. Although like you said those aren't the best people being kicked out.
