New Hasbro TIE Fighter

Somewhat lost in the shuffle of the Comic Con hoopla was a tidbit passed along to man on the street Matt Colman. Hasbro is hard at work on a properly scaled TIE Fighter and will probably get it to market sometime in 2006. The progress on this new vehicle has been slow due to budget constraints but it is progressing a little at a time! Good news for vehicle fans who have been fed up with Undersized vehicles for some time.

Hey, cool! Maybe I will pass on the OTC version and wait for this one. Hopefully it will also be the right color.

Yeah, I may pass on the OTC one too.........nah, I'll get one to replace my old one and, if they come out with a better one in 2006, I'll get 2 to replace my OTC and KB exclusive ones.

2006? Man that is a long time to wait but I guess we will have a bunch of new vehicles on the shelves come may.

Revenge of the Sith toys no doubt pushed it back till then. It's possible they could get it out by late 2005. This is something they should have done back in 1995.

It's about damn time!! I've always thought the TIE Fighters wings were too far from the cockpit and not quite tall enough. And the battery pack on the back of the cockpit bothered me because the new one doesn't make any sounds. It's good to see Hasbro actually put effort into producing new product.

This is cool news! I wasn't going to buy the OTC tie fighter because I do not like the scale or color. It seems like Hasbro is going to change this. On the bad side, I wonder if Hasbro is going to do a good Millennium Falcon? I was going to buy the new OTC version but now I am not so sure. What if an awesome Falcon comes out? I would definitely have to purchase it.

Good news indeed!!! :D
If the solar panels are indeed more true to scale I'll be getting 2 of these and getting rid of my others TIE's altogether.

I expect that the OTC Millennium Falcon is about as retooled as we're ever going to get. If you remember those big Falcons that used to hang from the ceiling at TRU, those were in correct scale for the 3 3/4" figures. I couldn't even imagine the cost of a ship with a 6 -foot diameter, let alone where I'd put the thing.
I'm looking forward to the new TIE, though I wish Hasbro would let the TIE alone for a while and move on to some vehicles that they haven't made before.

Is it just me and please if I'm wrong someone correct me but have they made a new Cloud Car yet. And I'm not talking that crappy MrQuarrie concept one. I want the bright orange twin pod one.

No its one of the few vintage vehicles that hasn't been released in the modern line yet. Now would be the perfect time to release one too considering 3 of the 7 new OTC figures are based on the Cloud City setting, including the long awaited Cloud Car Pilot. I doubt we'll be seeing it anytime soon since the focus will soon shift to EPIII toys and will likely stay that way for the majority if not all of 2005. :dis:
I'd recommend just trying to hunt down a vintage Cloud Car if you really want one. Thats what I decided to do and am so glad I did. Its such a cool vehicle and the new CC Pilots look great in it. :D

That's a good idea since the vintage ones sell for about $35-$40 apiece loose. Which is about what you could expect to pay for any exclusive Target or TRU version.
I'm really excited about this correctly scaled TIE Fighter and can't wait to see some pictures. What "budget constraints" are they talking about though? Does anyone else find that a little disturbing? Maybe if Hasbro had ditched the entire Hall of Fame collection and all the OTC rereleases, they could have afforded to have this thing released before Ep3. :frus:

Rereleases don't cost them a dime except for the new card design. They make a much higher profit on these so if anything it should help them with their budjet constraints. But I believe they are talking about keeping the unit price to a reasonable level. I remember not to long ago when so many people were disappointed with how much the Sandcrawler was. Granted that was a resculpt and about $60 most places. I'm sure they will want to keep it under $50 if they want to sell it retail (which they always try to do).

If we can finally get a decent looking TIE Fighter I'd gladly pay $50 for it. Especially if it came with the new OTC TIE Pilot. That fig looks great.
It costs them tons of money to sculpt new vehicles, they only have so much of a budget each year for engineering and tooling and its less in non movie years (and most of that goes to Figures). So while next year we'll see a plethora of figures and vehicles, the money to redo properly scaled OT Vehicles needs to be spread out over a period of time. This is why we'll probably never see a new Falcon, properly scaled other vehicles and why playsets have been so sparse. Mr Colman was told by Hasbro that they have the cockpit done and are working on the wings right now, with Episode III being the focus of next year they thought they could finish it and get it out late '05 and more likely '06

That would be cool since they already made a X-Wing scaled to the figures. 2006 is a long time to wait.
