I am a loose (mainly) collector.
I do have a closet full of carded/boxed but they are all of ones i already have opened and only have them because they came in lots or small collections iv'e bought.
The OTC figures have some repaints ( Luke, Greedo, Jawas, Snowtrooper), im planning on gettting them all when i find them (iv'e only got the Bespin Luke so far) but i was wondering if im being an *** since they are really just the same figures or are any of you other loose collectors getting these too?
Just curious.

I am a carded collector and I buy the repaints/repacks. I dont get all of them, but I have gotten all the Lukes, most of them in cases from EE though. I would have never bought the Jedi Luke OTC in a store though. I do plan on buying the Jawas, Tusken, snowtrooper, Gam. guard, and a few others. I never got the IG-88 POTJ, so I snatched him in a trade. If it wasnt for the cards, I dont thinkn I would have gotten most of the repacks. I bought Bossk repack, because I needed a quick fix, but I wont buy the Endor wave, except Han, because I have him on a Saga Canadian card and want an American carded version.

I'm a loose collector, and I will buy repaints if they are significant improvements, or changes. I've not seen the OTC Bespin wave yet, but will most likely buy Bespin Luke when I find him. Greedo was actually really well done, and looks the best on his card (of the OTC figures I've seen). If I come across him again, I will probably buy him. I'm on the fence about X-Wing Luke. The only difference is his teeth not being painted from what I can see. I bought one for my son, and if I see another, I'll probably pick one up for myself as well. Everyone else will be based on what I think of them when I find them.

Yes, you are just being an ***.;)

No really most of the repacks are better that the 1st versions and I recommend getting them all. Hasbro does too, so you better just do it.
So far I have only seen one OTC figure at a retail store and it was the stupid @ss Han. I have got all the rest from EE up to the Jawa and Tusken wave. Next will be the Gam Guard and Bib wave with the last Saga wave repacks and that will do it for the OTC line. Hopefully I will find them in retail before EE gets them.

I'm also a loose collector (or was). My opinion is: Same figure on a new card is still the same figure. When Hasbro changed the POTF2 line from orange cards to green cards I sure as heck didn't buy the figures over again because they were on a new card. Same thing with vintage figures. Vader on a SW card is the same as Vader on a ESB, ROTJ or POTF card.

I will buy repaints if they are significant improvements, or changes.
I feel the same way. If major changes or improvements are made I'll consider it. What is a major change or improvement? Well it changes from time to time and figure to figure.

I only get repaints if they are cool or really different than the first versions. I got the Yoda Episode II Council figure, it looked different enough from the Episode I version. I will probably get the Jawas and Tusken Raider, but not the Luke, as I don't really think it is that different (besides, we already have a clean Bespin Luke form 1998). However, it is really up to you.

I'm one of those pathetic people that collects every figure no matter what. I keep them all carded because, like I've said, it looks better when displayed IMO. Today I picked up the OTC Han Solo and that makes if I'm not mistaken the 4th different card that that particular figure has been on. Man, I need some help.

as a loose collector, I have done this, but not with that many figures, the repaint has to be superior in some way for me to get in on this. The HOF R2 with the wheels and permanent 3rd leg, this OTC Bespin Luke, R2 Dagobah, Luke Pilot, those are all ones I've bought so far that are worthy repaints for me.

As long as you aren't the guy who paid $800+ for the one that Cloud City Collectibles offered on ebay acouple months ago, you have the assurance of knowing that you could be worse. ;)

I'm pretty bad for buying repaints. So far from the OTC my collection looks like this (not including the 7 all-new figures):

Luke X-Wing Pilot (teeth not painted, helmet much darker)
Greedo (grey wash over sleeve stripes, new boots)
Bespin Luke (different coloured uniform, no redness on face)
Clean R2D2
IG-88 (tough to tell, but on the OTC one I found the "rust" application was somewhere between the barely noticeable POTJ version and the really rusted out version from the Bounty Hunter 4 pack so I picked him up)

I have plans to buy:

Jawas
Tusken Raider
Gammorean Guard
Wicket
Darth Vader - Hoth
Bib Fortuna

I might consider buying Stormtrooper and Biker Scout if I saw them at retail, but I'd likely return them if I got them home and couldn't discern a difference between them and their previous releases (that's how I've been doing it for the OTC so far).

And now for a couple of questions: Have they changed the paint on the Snowtrooper? Is the Clean R2 different from the Clean R2 that was released in the HOF series??????

Thanks for any help.

Oh, and none of you really need help unless you've spent money on all of the TRU 4 packs so far to get those barely rehashed "new" figures from those sets. I have, and I feel that makes me pretty close to having lost my marbles.

I'm primarily a loose collector. IF I get aynthing to keep carded, I usually get 2 of anyway (one to open), and it's almost always something of either Darth Vader or Boba Fett lol.

Over the years there's been a stray fig here or there that I wound up getting two of for whatever reason, and I just kept carded (no need to open it)

I won't get a repainted fig if I already have it from a previous release. Makes no sense to.

The only 4-pack I picked up EVER was the 4-pack of figs from 95-96 that were done in the original molds lol.

jjreason, the R2 is the HOF version. The snowtrooper, I believe, has been unchanged, though I haven't seen it yet so I can't be sure.

I'm a loose collector, but with the OTC line, I'm getting 1 of each and a second of all the new figs. (The 8 of them) Since I'm also an army builder, I'll be getting a few Stormie, Scouts, and Cloud Car Pilots. (I've got enough TIE pilots).

This is the first time that I'm actually considering the card when buying.

I can't say I envy the carded collectors at all. It's a real pain in the arse looking for a minty fresh card. Once the OTC line is done, it's back to being strictly loose collecting for me.

Just a quick technical point: they were actually new molds pulled from the original vintage figures, you can tell because the figs in that 4pack are slightly smaller than the originals.

jjreason, I just saw the snowtrooper last week and I'd say that he seemed to have some yellow on his chest that the original did not. However, as I'm not a big fan of this figure, I did not actually buy the OTC version and compare it side-by-side with my Saga one.

Thanks, JT. I was still wondering which Snowtrooper was coming out - the Saga version or the old POTF2 one. I suspected if it were the latter there would be some new paint on it. Since it's the new one, I'll likely buy it if I see it, then return it if it's the same. Not my favorite figure either, it could/should have been much better with only minor tweaking. :(

The Snowtrooper has darker arms and legs and is pretty much darker all over.
The first version of this figure was really, really white.
So yeah it's different, different enough that i need it.
So far him,Tusken Raider, Jawas, Luke Bespin and Greedo are different enough for me to need.
And i guess X-wing Luke too, his jumpsuit is bright orange like it should be, the first run of this figure was a dull color.
That diabolical Hasbro...

I am also a loose collector and I am being really picky. I have picked up Greedo, Bespin Luke, the Jawas, and will get Hoth Darth, Tusken raider, and Gamorrean Gaurds when I find them. This has been a good time for army building and filling holes in my collection. I don't think every figure (if you already have it) is worth picking up again if you are going to open them. However, I feel bad for destroying the package...for a second or two.

I ran into the Snowtrooper and Jawas for the first time today. There seems to be at least 2 of each per case because their was quite a few of them on the pegs. No Tuskens though.

The Snowtrooper's armor, boots, helmet, backpack and gloves are all still the same shade of white as the previous release. The jumpsuit however is now more of a cream color compared to the off-white look of the original Saga rendition and the contrast makes it pretty noticable.

The Jawas look very different. They are much darker than the POTF2 versions and instead of their robe being just one shade of brown they have darker lines accenting the wrinkles now. The utility belts they have across their chests are much more detailed too with silver clasps and darker outlines making them stand out more. This new paint app really makes the old job look incredibly inferior by comparison. I now want all my Jawas to look like this. This is easily the most improved and noticable paint update I've seen in the OTC line so far.

I'm going to put together at least one complete set of the OTC. This is the first time I've intentionally collected re-carded figures. I'm also concerned about card condition for the first time in years. Damn marketing devilry!

I'm definitely buying doubles of the new figures to open. Though I haven't decided if I want openers of the repaints yet.

I'm a loose collector -- have been since 1978 -- and the only basic OTC figures I'm buying are the new sculpts, the StarWarsShop.com Hologram Emperor, and the Imperial Scanning Crew member. I have no interest in the better paint apps on figures like the Jawas and Bib Fortuna. The only other OTC repack I might have considered buying was the Hoth Vader, but once I learned about the snow effect paint app I was completely turned off to it. Besides, the Vintage OTC figures are already setting me back $120, so I need to trim that toy budget down a bit.

I do care about the repaintings and all that stuff, but I think its not very important to me, I have mi figures carded, but I want Hasbro to make new figures, that'll be nice.

Their working on them as we type our complaints. The only problem is they will be in crappy packaging.
