Went to visit the parents for the weekend and thought I prowl through my old closet. I dug out my Vader case full of all the figs of my childhood. I opened it up to check em out and found they were covered with vile stickiness. Is this the dreaded "Plastic rot" I have heard mentioned a few times? Can they be washed in a little warm soapy water or is that just delaying the inevitable transformation in piles of plastic goo? Any ideas.....suggestions? :( :(

Yes I'm sorry to say this is the "dreaded plastic rot." And no there isn't anything you can do to stop it. Best you hope for is to slow it down. I would try to wash the stickiness off. Personally I think the best way is just plain water with a q-tip. But you might need to use soap, if so use a mild one.

The best way to slow this down is to keep your figures cool because it's a chemical break down. The colder the figures, slower the reaction. I've personally left figures in my freezer for months. It does seem to help. Figures I've treated for frosting (another of rot) have stayed frosting free and not turned sticky sense.

I'm always sorry to hear happening to others. But if you have any more questions about this please ask.
