I agree, those no armed busts look funny to me. The only one I have is Dooku, and I think that's the one exception to the no-armed busts - he actually looks pretty cool IMO.

I would love a Maul bust, they need to do one.

I agree, I only have Padme from the busts with no arms. I was going to pick up some of the others when the local collectors shop had them at buy 2 get the third free.

I picked up Greedo just yesterday. Plus the Emperor and the Vader variant in the bust up series, plus I have the 3 pack of Stormtroopers coming from starwarsshop.com/

I just got my C-3PO and IG-88 mini busts yesterday! These things rock! I am more impressed with the IG-88, but 3PO is still pretty good! :D

I really wish I could've gotten a Fett, regular Vader, Yoda, and the color Clone Troopers - but I know that's a pipe dream at this point....

Ah well, I still may pay ebay prices for a Fett since that's the one I want the most.

Also I didn't care for any of the PT busts except maybe the Clone Troopers, so I have stuck to mostly OT characters. Notice the big difference between "mainstream characters" from the PT and OT. The PT busts have a lot more "mainstream characters".

What turned me off the most about the early busts is that they didn't have arms. I think that the Vader and Yoda were (some of) the first to have them, and that's when the busts really caught on. IMO.

And yeah, I agree with ya about the 'cool' busts. I love the Snowtrooper, but think he may come out looking too much like Cobra Commander in white.

What gift set was the Sand trooper in? Was it silver with gold pauldron?

And I just got thru reading the rest of the thread and saw you guys already mentioned the arms...

My silver jango is due to arrive this Thurs.

Any date on when the 3PO statue is being released?

I love the Snowtrooper, but think he may come out looking too much like Cobra Commander in white.Nah, I think the trooper has detail on him that would say it's a Snowtrooper. The chest plate and backpack will give it away.:) I haven't even thought about a Snowtrooper for GG's line of Busts. Now I really want one. I have seen a few pre-orders for a Tie Fighter pilot around, so maybe he'll be coming sometime soon.

The Sandtrooper has a December '04 date on it, but the other two don't have any date.

Today turned out to be "Gentle Giant Bounty Hunter Day" for me!! lol

My local comic shop got a case of Series 3 Bust-Ups today, and I scored Boba, Jango, and Zuckuss (left Bossk and the other two were already gone b/c they're one each per case). These things get better and better with each series. The paint deco on all of them (especially Boba) are phenomenal. The pieces fit together much more easily and seamlessly. In all, excellent pieces.

Plus, FedEx paid a visit to my apartment today and left my chrome Jango Fett mini-bust. It was a lower number than I'd expected it to be (#893 of 5000). Pictures don't do this piece justice. The chrome was ice cold to the touch despite several layers of cardboard and styrofoam protecting it from the 15 degrees outside.

The coolest part about it is the way it reflects light and images. My wife pointed out that parts of it have an almost reddish tone to it if held under the light a certain way. Definitely a steal at $50.00 plus shipping.

Now, if only MR would get moving on my Emperor Palpatine cane and clasp set...

Are they easier to see which character they are this time? I lucked out with Wave 1, but got lots of doubles from Wave 2.

Jayspawn

Actually NO, they are not any easier to see. Same box with Boba Fett on the front. The easiest one to see is Bossk -on account of this yellow outfit. And Dengar becasue of his. A friend and I actually popped open each box to see what we were getting. The girl at the store didnt care. The others are hard as hell to see.

4 Fett's (1 is all silver)
2 Jango's
2 Bossk's
2 Zuckuss's
1 Dengar
1 4-Lom.

Looks like I will have an extra Fett though. Anyone want it for 5 bucks?

Edit...... I might have extras of Fett, Jango, Bossk abd Zuckuss.

Hey! My IG-88 Minibust arrived today! As it seems from Gentle Giant's terrible handwriting, I got 3671/5000. Some of the tissue wrap was stuck to the base so they must have stuck this guy in the package fresh!

What the next minibust? It should be Sandtrooper and/or Boussh Leia.

I got email notification from EE that my 3PO statue shipped, due to recieve it Wed a.m. from UPS.

On a side note... We were talking a bit about shipping comapnies before. FedEx delivered my Chrome JAngo this week. The tracking info didn't update from the time it was sent until the night before delivery. When I checked it, the bust got to a Harisburg (PA) sort facility Sun night and stayed there until just after midnight Wed morning to come the last 50 - 100 miles. Why didn't they just sort it and send it on its way?

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to the Gentle Giant stuff so please excuse me while I catch up on some specifics. :)

I bought my first bust last weekend ! Last summer at Wiz Chicago I hit the Gentle Giant booth and thought about getting the Stormie Luke but passed and now I kind of wish I would have grabbed it. I asked if they had Bossk but they did not have any for sale. Fast forward to last weekend when I attended a comic/toy convention and one of the dealers had Bossk and no other busts for sale. I jumped at the piece and picked it up . . . he had it marked at $50 and I gave him $45 - did I overpay ? I couldn't recall offhand what they retailed for but I thought from the Toyfare layout that it might cost me around 35-40 online anyway, PLUS shipping so I figured $45 was doable.

Seriously, let me know if I overpaid. I can handle bad news. :D

Also, that same day I bought a mini-bust from series 1 and I didn't even realize that you had to peek in the little window to know who you are getting. Luckily I grabbed a Chewie because that's who I wanted most.

Okay, back to Wiz of last year I did make a purchase and that was the clear 4 pack bust ups of Han, Luke, Threepio, and Yoda . . . it was Yoda, right ? I don't have it handy, it's packed away for my upcoming move.

Anyway I got my Bossk and I see NO WAY that I'll be satisfied with just one so I'll be scooping these up here and there. :crazed: I don't remember what number mine is - once again, I'm all packed up for a move so it will be a few weeks til I get to actually enjoy him. :(

Thanks and I'll be sure to read this thread from the beginning to catch up on things. :)

Congrats Caesar!

Welcome to the Gentle Giants addiction club! :D

First things first, Bossk retailed for $45.00 so the price was dead on. You may be able to find one on Ebay for $40.00 but then you have to pay shipping and end up loosing. I bought my Scout Trooper and C-3PO at the same time, from the same dealer on Ebay to same on shipping.

Most of the mini busts retail for $45-$50. Some of them sold out long ago and had very limited runs, like Vader (2500) and Fett (7500...but REALLY popular). Unfortunatly these are going for big $$$ right now. The rest can still be had for a reasonable cost...close to retail. Well, the OT stuff can, I don't collect the PT busts, so I couldn't tell you anything about the prices on those.

I also started collecting late, back in November or so. To date I have 9 mini busts and I have no intention of slowing down or stopping! :D

I found the Luke Stormtrooper for about $70.00 with shipping on Ebay. The Han Solo Stormtrooper is still flooding Ebay.

As for the clear bust-ups, the comic con set came with Han, Luke, C-3PO and Leia. The Yoda was an Entertainment Earth exclusive I believe. I bought mine from Alliance Collectables on Ebay for $5.00.

If you are interested in buying bust-ups series 2 I highly recommend going through AFX! I bought a 12 pack case from them and recieved the Darth Vader and Darth Maul holo bust-ups free with my purchase. I also like the fact that each case comes with 1 of each character except Vader, Maul and Stormtrooper. Vader and Maul are both packed 3 per case and from what I have seen each case comes with 2 regular and 1 chase variant of each!!! There are 3 Stormtroopers, each is different and they all have interchangable arms/hands that allow for different poses. BTW, these are the same Stormtrooper bust-ups sold on SSW.com.

Anyway, congrats again and welcome to the addiction! :D

Thanks SK99, I just read through this whole thread (save for a few I skimmed regarding everybody's troubles ordering the Stormie Han :D ) but I'm glad everybody seemed to get one who wanted one. :)

Bossk - I looked him up on eBay and felt down when I saw him for 32.99 buy it now BUT then I looked at shipping and they wanted $13 more so that's that. ;)

I'm working on getting Padme right now as well as Anakin and I need AOTC Obi-Wan. I agree with you guys that the armless busts are not nearly as cool but I love those characters so I'm getting them.

And Greedo, how cool is that one. :D

By the way Turbs, I too would LOVE a Jar Jar bust and would buy it instantly. Sorry. :p

Also a big thanks to DocE22 for a tutorial last night re: Gentle Giant. ;)

Hi guys,

Could any one give me an accurate height on the Grand Moff Tarkin & Greedo mini busts ?? I think the Greedo will fit in with my 1/6 scale collection of models & Koto figures, but I believe Tarkin will be too small. The heights I get from e-bay are all over the place, so I would like to know from someone who has them.

The height from the bottom of the base to the top of the piece is what I'm looking for. From there, I can tell if it is 1/6 scale or not.

Appreciate any help & thank you.

Rec'd my statue today. 3PO looks great. The gold is nice and bright, reflective, unblemished. There's a very good level of detail in the sculpt. I was taken aback at the size tho.... For some reason I think I was expecting something bigger, more along the lines of the 18" Luke or Han coming out from SideShow. This stands about 11", including base. I think this would keep him in scale to other characters - does anyone know how tall the Chewy statue is. I'll try mm74d's link above...

For some reason I think I was expecting something bigger, more along the lines of the 18" Luke or Han coming out from SideShow. This stands about 11", including base. I think this would keep him in scale to other characters - does anyone know how tall the Chewy statue is. I'll try mm74d's link above...

Chewie should be 15" tall. GG's busts & statues all appear to be in 1/6 scale, so an average 6' person would be 12". Sideshow's new line is 1/4 scale, so 18".

6' person is 72" tall. Divided by 6 = 12" (1/6 scale)
6' person is 72" tall. Divided by 4 = 18" (1/4 scale)

I'm glad theres a CIII Exclisive. See, I've missed EVERY Mini-Bust Exclusive theres ever been. And Since I'm going to CIII, I'm getting one for sure!!!

I've not had any problems with my Chewbacca Statue. I dont have any display room for him so hes in storage now. But I did note that the wires sticking out of C-3PO's body are fragile! So watch out for those.

Alright I caved this afternoon and picked up Vader, Stormtrooper and Chewbacca Bust-Ups. Blah! I bought Jango yesterday.

I'm not that wild about Han's head sculpt -buts growing on me. I hope they show the Vader ROTS and Yoda ESB Mini-Busts soon.

LOL! You can't resist the Gentle Giant, can you? I would suggest the rest of series 2 - Palps, Royal Guard, Maul, and Dooku are great! I personally like series 2 better than 1 and 3.

Reefer, how many different busts are in wave 2?

2 vaders?
2 Mauls?
1 Palpy?
1 Royal guard?
Crap load of stormies?

So a case might be good to buy?

Reefer Shark
03-18-2005, 07:58 PM
Yep - those, and the 1 Dooku. I think there's really only 2 or 3 different Stormys (and the only thing that's different are the arms/guns), it's just that you can make a ton of variations by swapping the arms around.

A case may be the way to go, you're probably guaranteed to get the variants that way. Dooku, Palpy, and Royal Guard are the short packed guys - one or two per case.

sith_killer_99
03-18-2005, 11:17 PM
RS is correct there were only 3 Stormtrooper "variants". GG dosen't call 'em variants because they are evenly packed.

I bought a case of 12 (series 2) from AFX and the case breakdown was perfect!

Each case is packed:

1 Royal Guard
1 Palpatine
1 Dooku
3 Stormtroopers (1 of each)
3 Darth Maul (2 regular and 1 variant)
3 Darth Vader (2 regual and 1 variant)

That leaves 1 extra of Darth Vader and Darth Maul. I took mine to work and put 'em on my desk. Plus AFX sent a free set of the Holo Vader/Maul! Great deal! :)

BTW, the SSW.com exclusive Stormtrooper Bust-Ups are the same Stormtroopers from the regular series 2. They put a pic of "squad 2" on the box, but they are just the same Stormtroopers with the arms switched around. They claim there are 8 variations possible, but I went well over that, though some fo the poses I created looked a bit silly.

I have 15 Stomtrooper Bust-Ups, 3 from the case I bought and 4 SSW.com sets. No, I didn't get a Blackhole Stomtrooper. :(

Have there been any GG BU's of Battle Droids or SBD's?

If so, would someone be kind enough to post a pic or link? Thx.

Why? I got to thinking what other busts I like to see made, and the BD's came ot mind. Can get a coupla variants out of it if it were popular enough - standard, OOM-9, the red Geo version... They did a nice enough job w/ IG-88 that I think this would be worth looking into.

Put me down for a Darth Maul mini-bust as well. I'd get that in a heartbeat!!

I must say that I'm really disappointed with GG's 2005 line of mini-busts. You'd think that we'd see a wave of ROTS busts. Darth Sidious, General Grievous, Anakin Skywalker w/ Sith eyes--they all come to mind immediately. All we're getting is a new Darth Vader (which I have absolutely no problem with at all) and an ROTS wave of bust-ups.

Talk about dropping the ball big time though. As nice as they look, I could really care less about Boushh, Han, and Sandtroopers during the year of the Sith.

Jayspawn

I'm all about getting Boussh Leia (although I'd rather have a classic Leia 1st). But I'm really excited about Han, the Sandtroopers, ESB Yoda and ROTS Vader.

Yeah, it stinks that we're not getting a line of ROTS Minibusts like we should be. Darth Sidious, General Grevious, even Chewbacca should be givens. I'm willing to bet they're gonna do them -just not yet. Seems like GG already has a full plate.

Seems like GG already has a full plate.

That's what surprises me. They gave themselves a full plate of OT busts during a prequel movie year. It's not like they didn't know "Revenge of the Sith" was coming out. It just seems like poor planning that may impact their sales. They had a chance to attract new customers looking for ROTS merchandise this year, and they're missing that particular opportunity.

sith_killer_99

I thought the case was packed with 24. Did AFX do a repack?

Nope, they are selling 12 pack cases and 24 pack cases. When I got my order for a case of 12 they appeared to be a factory set. SSW.com, AFX and EE all have 12 packs for sale:

http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=1462;category_id=367;pcid1= ;pcid2=

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=GE7114A

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=GE5699AA

http://store.yahoo.com/actionfigurexpress/stwabuse2.html

http://store.yahoo.com/actionfigurexpress/stwabuse3.html

So I assume either GG sells 12 pack and 24 pack cases, or (most likely) they sell 24 pack cases with 2 12 packs per box and EE/AFX/SSW.com sell the 12 packs. Either way they were evenly packed in the 12 pack I bought, so I have to assume they were factory packed that way. The case was too well packed, and unopened, to be re-packs. Plus AFX gave the case breakdown ahead of time.

I plan on ordering series 3 (12 pack) from AFX, they have a great deal going with the free Holo Vader/Maul! The free set makes up for the cost of shipping IMO. :D

I picked three because I didn't want to run up a big bill, and when I got home I got Bossk, Degnar, and the silver Fett. Is the Silver Fett hard to find? I was suprised that no one else had picked it (silver Fett bust up) up, so perhaps it's not as hard to find as I thought.

One thing that's strange is that Han has a Sept release date. Now that is some time away which leads me to believe we will be bombarded with ROTS busts.

GG has always had a hard time meeting their release schedule, at least it sure seems that way.

Maybe that's why they are being so hush hush about their ROTS releases. We know they are planning a ROTS Vader, but what else they might have planned??? Who knows.

I will buy what I can, when I can, as it's released. Unless it's a complete hunk of junk without arms. ;)

I would like to see GG release another Boba Fett, same sculpt, new paint job. The current one is from Empire, but they could easily repaint him for Jedi and release 20,000 pieces and still sell out! :D

If the new ROTS Vader is a better sculpt than the current Vader I will buy it and save myself $350.00! I am not that impressed by the current Vader anyway.

Well, my series 3 Bust-Ups arrived today. They were packed in the counter top display box and were packed just like AFX said. I did recieve 1 Silver Boba Fett which leads me to believe that it is indeed packed 1 per 12 pack case.

On a side note I am acutely aware of the missing IG-88! I mean what were they thinking, giving us all the ESB Bounty Hunters but leaving out IG-88! Instead we get Jango Fett. Also, one of my Zuckuss micro busts is defective, it looks like he has a glob of glue on his head. You know how if you glue something and it sticks to a piece of paper it makes a big flat spot...well that's what it looks like. Luckily he was packed 2 per box. I will have to contact AFX to see if they will exchange him.

Oh well, I am happy with the rest of the set. :D Plus I got another set of Holographic Sith Lord!!! YEAH!!! :D

Strangely enough, seeing the pics of that new Darth Vader mini-bust turned me away from it. It's the pose with his hands...looks like he's holding the saber like a kid with a teddy bear. :)

Now...the Yoda, I'm completely sold on it now. I'll be skipping the Kotobukiya model in favor of this bust. As for Vader, I'll get the upcoming ROTS Koto model in place of the mini-bust.

BTW, what's up with the new Bust-Ups??? There's an even three-way split. We're getting two incredible ones (Anakin and the Clonetrooper), two average ones (Obi-Wan and Darth Sidious), and two that are atrocious (General Grievous and Yoda). It seems as though Series 2 and 3 were the high points.

I just got back from Celebration III. And I'll say that I was more than impressed after looking at ALL of these items myself! Here's the lowdown from somebody who was actually there...

ROTS Bust-Ups I hate to say this -but they ALL look f'n sweet! We got Obi-Wan, Anakin, Darth Sidious/Palpatine (one of the best yet), Vader and different color/types of Clone Troopers. They all look great! Unfortuanly, I'll have to cave and get all of these!

Mini Busts Another promising year for Busts! The Han and Leia Boussh Bust look incredible. The ESB Yoda Bust I am completely sold on. I actually like it better than the AOTC version. The Vader Bust from ROTS looks unbelievable. The pictures Rebelscum.com posted dont do it justice. It looks FAR better in person. Definatly worth getting. I was completely won over by them all.

Statues GG had the C-3PO, Scout Trooper and Darth Vader Statues all proudly on display. Even though I'm getting the Sideshow Vader Statue, I'll get the GG Vader Statue also. The pictures again dont do it justice. I just stared at it. The Scout Trooper Statue is much small than I thought but what a piece! The detail on the bike is great!

Armory The Armory/Helmets line look great as well. I saw on display Stormtrooper, Vader, Boussh, X-Wing, TIE Pilot, and Death Star Trooper. The stands they come on are a flat black color -really makes the helmets stand out.

Clone Wars Maquettes Another great lineup on the way! They were displaying Anakin (Season 2 version), General Grevious, and Luminara Undili & Barris Offee together.

Harry Potter Off Topic but worth bringing up. GG had 3 Harry Potter Mini Busts on display which included Harry, Sirious Black and Professor Snape. I got to tell you that they looked incredible! Especially the likeness of the Snape Bust looked JUST like Alan Rickman. Very impressive sculpting!

*Overall GG's presentation was fantastic! The Statues and Mini Busts were in nice display cases. The Bust-Ups were displayed randomly in pyramid shaped cases. All of the cases were lit. On a side note, I was lucky enough to get an Exclusive Sandtrooper Corporal Bust. The detail and weathering is great! I got 330/2500.

A little more info from CIII!

I had the opportunity to speak with the folks at the convention about the upcoming stuff.

Armory Will be released this year, but no definate date. MSRP is unknown at this time. They may release these in 2 packs. The display base has changed a few times and may change yet again before they hit the market. The detail on the helmets are nothing short of amazing! I looked closely at the difference between the Stormtrooper mini bust helmet and the Stormtrooper Armory helmet and it is light years ahead in terms of fine detail!

Sandtrooper Mini Busts These are semi Deluxe busts. They have interchangable arms that allow for multiple poses. I managed to get the exclusive C3 Sandtrooper and I am very pleased with it. Before anyone gets too jealous keep in mind that I waited in line for 8 hours before the convention opened to get this guy!

Sorry Turbo, GG limited them to one per person per day. They got a line going and handed out cards that you could redeem for the bust at anytime later that day. The card was only good for that day. They also limited the number for sale per day. They sold out each days worth within the first hour of each day.

I camped out twice over the four days once for a bust and once for the figure.

I would have loved to get a couple extra for the collectors here, but it was next to impossible. :(

Glad you got one. Seems like such a pain for people to get the collectibles at CIII. I'm glad I didn't go. I got my CIII Vader figs for SWS so I'm hoping to snap one of these troopers on eBay.

It was REALLY frustrating to walk over to the booth and see a pile of the busts sitting there, waiting for the ticket holders to buy them. I think they should have been kept out of view.

I was finally able to get one, but waiting in line really ****ed me off - There were quite a few people near me who already had a bust and just wanted extra's to sell for $200.

They had a repainted 3PO bust on dispaly, painted as the E2 version, that looked really cool. I wiould love to add that to my collection.

Yeah, that kinda ticked me off. I talked to a few people who said they don't collect the mini busts, but they wanted one anyway, to sell on Ebay.

Had the true collectors been the only ones buying these things then perhaps GG could have raised the limit to 2 per person, or at least the line would have been short enough for collectors to reasonably get 2, I really wish I could have hooked up another collector here. :(

Yeah, I saw that as well, I asked the rep. about it and he didn't know anything about it. He told me it was the first time he had even seen it and it surprised him when he was unpacking it.

It is pretty cool, but I'm not sure I will buy one. My GG collection has been strictly OT mini busts (and the bust-ups of course). Though I would certainly consider buying a Darth Maul, so long as he has arms. ;)

On a side note, I did get a good look at the GG Darth Vader statue and I am glad I decided against it. I love GG's work, but the Vader is the smaller Hayden EP III Vader and it really does look akward with the huge shoulder armor extending past his shoulders. It's a nice piece for EP III collectors, but for now I will continue to stick to the OT stuff.

I love the Scout and Speeder bike! :D

If I can snatch one up off of eBay for $100 I'll get one. I've noticed the prices slowly coming down. They started around $200 & are now averaging $145. I'll be patient since We're getting two more sandtroopers!

sith_killer_99
04-27-2005, 06:48 PM
Yeah, I have a feeling that the price on the CIII Sandtrooper will drop below $100.00 once the newer Sandtroopers are out.

I remember the Luke Stormtrooper was quite expensive, yet I managed to get one for $65.00 off Ebay a few months ago. :D

Yeah sometimes GG makes it very hard for people to like them.

sith_killer_99
04-28-2005, 09:58 AM
I don't know, they did the best they could for CIII. They sold an even alotment per day and handed out tickets for the Sandtrooper to move the line along as quickly as they could. Then you could redeem the ticket later that day for the Sandtrooper. The only thing different they could have done was to punch badges, but as we saw with the CIII Vader that didn't work too well as a lot of people just got extra badges, some people walked away with as many as 2 cases of Vaders.

My only real problem with GG was the whole Han Stormtrooper fiasco, but I still managed to get 2 of them and it was really more a problem with their internet host than their fault directly. That and the fact that they have had to push back release dates. Oh, and they really should have boosted the production numbers on their Darth Vader and Boba Fett, I mean 3,500 Vader's that's just rediculous! They could have done 15,000 of each and they would have sold out in no time! On second thought GG does make it kinda hard to love 'em. ;)

I wouldn't sweat not being able to speak with the folks from GG. I had the opportunity and they were kinda in the dark on most of the new stuff. One guy did tell me that GG was considering selling the new helmets from their "Armory" collection in 2 packs, but he didn't know what the retail price was going to be.

They also told me that the bases for the helmets had undergone several design changes and they didn't know if the ones they had at CIII were going to be the final product or not.

Monstermile

Are the Armory helmets detailed inside and out like the Riddell helmets were?? I love my Riddell set. They are among my favorites in my collection. And I got them on clearance many years ago on KB online.

sith_killer_99
05-06-2005, 12:03 PM
In don't know for sure, all of them were on their bases and it was kinda hard to see. These are also smaller than the Riddell helmets from what I have seen. The "Armory" collection helmets are the same size as the helmets on their Mini Busts.

I went to IKEA a few days ago and they have a awesome display case for our busts. It's about 6' high and 14"x14"? square. It's all glass, so no obstructions and the best part is, it's only $50-60 bucks. I have a perfect place for it.

Hey guys, I'm new to collecting the Gentle Giant mini-busts and was wondering how most of you go about getting yours. After reading through this thread it seems comic shops are a popular place but are there any good online retailers you've had success with that you'd care to recommend?

I've only got one bust so far (CIII Sandtrooper Corporal), actually I've yet to pick it up but will probably do so tomorrow since my local comic shop was nice enough to hold it for me. I'm looking to buy a few more but I haven't decided which are the most important to me yet. I'm definitely interested in the Leia Boushh but beyond that I was wondering which mini-busts you guys think are the best. FYI, the only busts I'm interested in are the ones with arms. :D

Any info would be much appreciated since I'm just getting into this line, which I really can't afford to do, but oh well, you only live once right? :nerv:

Turbowars
06-05-2005, 10:19 PM
Well at least you are starting with a hard to get bust, there's plenty of those in the line. Some of my favorites are Fett, Bossk, IG-88, Blue Clone, Gam Guard, Scout, Han Stormy and Regular Stromies, I have 3 of those. With this line you should only buy what you like. I don't have any of the armless one either and I will never buy them.

Look on e-bay, you can get some of these for great prices.

Jayspawn
06-05-2005, 10:45 PM
Welcome to Gentle Giant Collecting Hellboy! I suggest getting them all, the reason is because once you start -you usually get hooked and keep going. Any characters you like are worth getting. But truth be known, ANY of the busts/statues are worth getting. They have exceptional quality and detail.

sith_killer_99
06-05-2005, 11:51 PM
Hehehe, we seem to be running in the same circles these days. First Kotobukiya now Gentle Giants.

I'm with Turbo on the armless minibusts. Those things really freak me out!

I am always partial to the OT stuff. Here it's no different, of course it helps that the OT busts have arms. LOL

The Deluxe Stormtrooper is by far my favorite, I have 2 and I love 'em because of their versatility. These guys have multiple arms/weapons and lots of different poses. Nice score on the CIII Sandtrooper! This guy rocks!

As far as OT HTF busts, the first Vader and Boba Fett seem to go for the most $$$$.

Ebay is still a good source for older mini busts, but I suggest buying multiples from the same dealer to save on shipping. Suncoast usually gets the newer busts in small quantities. I also like to order from AFX, per-sells are a bit cheaper than MSRP.

Anyway, welcome to the new addiction! Oh, and I also recommend the Bust-Ups lines. Series 1 was OK, but 2 and 3 really rock! AFX has some great deals on the older series, heck, you may even find a deal on Series 3. Besides, the "mico busts" look really cool next to the "mini busts".

Oh yeah, my collection started back in November and to date I have the following:

Stormtrooper (X2)
Luke Stormtrooper
Han Stormtrooper
Sandtrooper Corporal (CIII Exclusive)
Scout Trooper
Luke X-Wing Pilot
Bossk
Greedo
IG-88
Grand Moff Tarkin
Gamorean Guard
C-3PO

With pre-orders for

Leia Boussh
Sandtrooper Sergeant
Sandtrooper Squad Leader
Han Solo
Yoda (Empire Strikes Back)

I also desperatly want the Scout Trooper Statue! :D

Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, Mace Windu, Count Dooku, Boba Fett, Grand Moff Tarkin, Greedo, Bossk, IG-88, Luke and Han Stormtrooper, Luke X-Wing, C-3PO, Gamorrean Guard, Jango Fett (Chrome), Stormtrooper, Sandtrooper (CIII Exclusive), Clone Trooper (White), Scout Trooper, Chewbacca Statue, C-3PO Statue and Darth Vader Statue! Yeah!

sith_killer_99
06-06-2005, 12:19 PM
The Biker Scout is really the first statue from GG, that I have been excited about. The Chewbacca is cool, but statues never seem to do this character justice, it's the fur IMO. C-3PO looks nice, but all that gold plating turned me off. I was interested in the Darth Vader at first, but figured, why, I already have my Kotobukiya. Then I saw it in person at CIII and was thankful I passed. This is definatly the EP3 Vader, which is to say he looks like an underdeveloped Hayden trying to fill out the mask and cowel, but failing, like Hayden he just seems puny in the outfit. It's a nice statue, but for my money, just not worth it. Though, admittedly I am a cheap skate. :D

Now the Biker Scout with Speeder, that's a whole different story! The likeness is amazing! The size is perfect and the optical illusion of the Bike floating is just too darn cool!

BTW, Hellboy, have you heard about the "Armory" collection coming out this year? I saw a bunch of these at CIII and they seriously ROCK! :D

BTW, Hellboy, have you heard about the "Armory" collection coming out this year? I saw a bunch of these at CIII and they seriously ROCK! :D

Can't say that I have, sounds intriguing, care to elaborate?

BTW SK99, I thought this was kind of funny, I made a list of the busts that I'd like to buy last night and your OT collection matches my OT wants exactly, even your pre-orders. lol I'd really like to own Boba Fett someday too but the only way I see myself buying that one would be if I were to get a smokin deal on him, spendy buggar.

The only prequel busts I'm interested in so far are the Clone Troopers but I seriously doubt I'll buy many of those considering how much some of those ranked Clones go for. Jeez.

And yeah I'm hooked on the Kotos and now these, so I guess I've graduated to a higher level of collecting so to speak. I'm finding these lines to be extremely addicting though. :smoker:

My 30th B-Day is coming up and my wife just informed me that she got me one of the following, 1st release Vader, 1st release Yoda or Red Clone. I kind of hope it's the Red Clone, but any of the 3 will be awesome. I wonder why shes being so cool lately? She either did something bad:nerv: or she wants something:evil:. The Armory Collection are helmets from the films. They are the same scale as the busts, but they have much more detail!

I saw these at CIII and compared the Stormtrooper bust helmet to the Armory Collection Stormtrooper helmet and was amazed at the level of detailing! They had up for display TIE Pilot, X-Wing Pilot (Luke I believe), Stormtrooper, Boussh and more.

I asked about details on the release and they were sketchy, go figure, but anyway, they may release these in 2 packs. They couldn't give me an exact release date, but they said by the end of the year. Unfortunatly, they also couldn't give me any idea on the price. :(

But these look sweet! I will try to post pics in the next day or two. I think Steve may have some pics posted under CIII or Gentle Giants. :D

That armory collection definitely sounds like something I'd be interested in.

I actually went to pick up my Sandtrooper CPL today and it wasn't there yet. Being transfered from another store. :( So being the impulsive collector that I am I decided to get a bust or two since I was really looking forward to having at least one in hand by days end. I ended up buying the Biker Scout for $40 and the Clone Pilot for $99 :0096/2500. The latter being a little on the expensive side but still I felt like it was a good deal for both. I actually just opened them and I'm very happy with my purchases. Sweeet!!

They had a Luke Stormtrooper for $90 too. I might break down and get that one when I get paid but I'm not sure how good of a deal the price is since I haven't researched what it goes for yet. Looked great though.

First Kotobukiya, and now GG?? The same thing happened to me except in the other order (got into GG, then Koto). The Stormy bust was my first, now I have 14 busts :greedy: :greedy:. The most I've spent has been on the Clone Pilot ($100) and white Clone Trooper ($110), but they were worth it IMO :D. Those and Dooku are my only prequel busts, the rest are OT.

Yeah, I know. :greedy: :nerv:

14 busts already, wow. I think it was you who mentioned in this thread you kept passing up the white Clone Trooper at your local comic shop. Well I'm in the same boat, I contemplated buying it and the yellow Commander several times and am now kicking myself for not doing so when I had the chance. Much like missing the Cpl. and Sgt. Koto Sandtroopers. If only I knew then what I know now, oh well can't win em' all.

Yep, that was me... I must of passed on the white and yellow trooper at least a dozen times before I started collecting them. By the time I realized how damn cool they are, it was too late.

I almost had a yellow for $60 a few months back, but the dude flaked.. :(

Addicting aren't they Hellboy?? I just started about a moth ago and already have:

IG-88
Luke X-Wing Pilot
Bossk
Gamorrean Guard
Deluxe Stormtrooper
Tarkin (just won on ebay yesterday)
CIII Sandtrooper (should be here tomorrow from GG)

And have pre-orders on:
Leia Boushh
Han Solo
Both Sandtroopers
Yoda
Vader

Crazy little hobby I have got myself into. Thought I had a killer deal on a Boba Fett, but that fell through. All I need to get besides Fett are Greedo and the Scout Trooper and I will be up to date on everything that I want.

GG has released a NEW (and brief) newsletter today. With a little bit of news...

The ComiCon Exclusive will the Jango Fett Silver Bust-Up.

Bust-Ups Series 4 will be out in October(ish) and will include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Evil Anakin, Darth Sidious, General Grevious, Master Yoda and varions Clone Troopers (different poses and colors). The great news is that the box will NOW specify WHICH character is in which box.

And the Clone Wars Anakin Maquette has been added to the GG website.

Picked up my Sandtrooper Corporal today, very nice. However I have a question for those of you that own this: Can you get both arm/blaster variations to fit properly? I can only get the blaster with the hand molded on the trigger setup to fit right. The other blaster that has the hand attached to the front of the blaster doesn't allow the trooper to hold the blaster's trigger with his left hand. Hope that made sense.

I'm also a bit surprised at how loosely the interchangeable arms/hands fit on the bust. I ordered a couple of the DLX Stormtroopers (couldn't get just one :D ) and was wondering if they were as loose on that bust as well?

Still I love this bust. The ability to turn it's head makes it even more versitile and I really like how one blaster is dirty while the other is clean.

I think I know what you're talking about. I don't have the Sandtrooper, but my stormy is like that. With the molded "right hand-on-barrel" configuration, the handle fits loosley in his left hand. His fingers just kinda float above the trigger area.

Still looks cool though

Hellboy

Yeah thats exactly what I was talking about Reefer Shark. I received the new EE catalog in the mail today and noticed the picture of the Squad Leader bust has him holding the blaster the same way. I guess its supposed to be that way, I just don't think it looks all that great. Not a big deal though since I can just use the other blaster variation on the Corporal and since I planned on using the T-21 light repeating blaster on the Squad Leader I can avoid using it there too.

I'm thinking about getting Anakin and Grevious. Its a little while till they come out -so I have some time to think about it. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the Obi-Wan, ARC and Padme (especially Padme) Maquettes for cheap when I had the chance!

I know what you mean Jayspawn. Even though I picked up the ARC and Ventress on ebay for a pretty good price I still passed on both at retail. :stupid: I'm not going to make that mistake again so I'll be getting Grievous, Anakin and the Jedi girls early. I'm just not to sure where I should pre-order them since these will be the first maquettes I've actually planned on buying before their release.

Reefer Shark

I have all 5 maquettes, and I think they're great! Paid retail for Padme, Obi, and Ventress. I scored the Arc and Yoda at around 40% off retail at Southerisand.com a while ago.

I'm definitely planning on getting the 3 new ones, but I'm not sure yet if I'll pre-order or hold out for my local comic shop to get them.

The maquettes retail for around $80.00 but you can usually find some deals if you pre-order or buy them at your local comic shop when they first come out. Yoda being the only exception so far as he is $50.00. If you wait to long after they're released though you can pretty much plan on paying double retail as most of these are limited to 2500 pieces, Padme (1000 pieces) and Yoda (7500 pieces) being the only exceptions so far.

Here is a link to the web site Reefer Shark was refering to. :)

Reefer Shark, nice work snagging that Padme. I'm quite jealous as she seems to be the crown jewel of the maquette line. I really want one but man they're going for some pretty big bucks. I would guess this maquette will continue to go up in price as more people get into this line and try to aquire it so I'm thinking of getting it soon. One question though, is her coat made of a some sort of fabric? Its hard to tell based on the pictures but it sure looks like it.

Yeah, I guess I got pretty lucky on that one. I pre-ordered her from sws.com.

Her coat is not fabric, it's the same material as the rest of the figure. But it does have a soft fuzzy lining around it. She looks really nice in person! :)

Um, no, if I remember correctly, it's a little bigger. But not by much. It is a nice sculpt, but no way in hell is it worth $200 clams. I expected something around 12 inches high or so. This thing tops out around 6 or 8.

Yeah it's part of GG's 7" line. Same scale as the Dewback w/ Sandtrooper and the upcoming Luke with Taun Taun.

I agree. It's not the size that concerns me. It's the size coupled with the price. That combination doesn't add up at all. At most, an item this size should be sold for $100...tops. And even that is being liberal with the markup. For $200-ish, I'd expect quite a bit larger.

Have you guys seen the pics of the lifesize Yoda GG has on display at the SDCC? It looks amazing, much better than any of the other full size Yodas. The lightsaber actually lights up and GG will be making these available to the buying public. Rumor is it will cost $800 and $100 to ship. Considering how cool it looks I think that is a fair price.

GG sent out their newsletter and had this to say about the life-size Yoda that was on display at the SDCC.

News
Wizard World Chicago 2005

And for the ultimate collector, make sure to get your pre-order in for the life-size Yoda with light-up lightsaber and sound for $800 plus shipping and tax. We're not sure when and where we will be able to take pre-orders for these items in the future. So, if you get your pre-orders in at the show, you will be guaranteed to receive the piece. Also please remember due to our contract with Lucasfilm, we can only directly ship our Star Wars products to the US, Canada Puerto Rico.

While $800 is indeed a lot of money I think this piece is definitely a solid investment and easily the most accurate likeness we've seen in a life-size Yoda to date. If these go up for pre-order anywhere else I'm considering getting this. :crazed:

Hellboy

GG has released the edition sizes on all of their upcoming products that are currently on their website. Product that has been shown at this summer's conventions are not included. I must admit I'm very surprised at the size of some of these editions, especially the Mini Busts. :sur:

Mini Busts:
Darth Vader: 20,000 pieces
Yoda: 15,000 pieces
Sandtrooper Squad Leader: 7,500 pieces
Sandtrooper Sergeant: 7,500 pieces

Statues:
Scout Trooper on Speederbike: 5,000 pieces

Clone Wars Maquettes:
Anakin Skywalker: 3,000 pieces
General Grievous: 3,500 pieces
Barriss Offee and Luminara Unduli: 2,500 pieces

I guess the higher numbers are a pretty good indication that GG is doing well but the downside is these new pieces aren't really going to have the investment potential of GG's earlier work. 20,000 on the Vader and 15,000 on the Yoda Mini Busts seem a bit excessive though, I'm not even going to bother pre-ordering these as they should be everywhere.

If I could pick ten I'd choose the following to get made first:
-Darth Maul
-Qui-Gon Jinn
-Plo Koon
-Kit Fisto
-Jango Fett w/arms
-ROTS Clones w/squad variant repaints
-Commander Cody
-Anakin Skywalker: w/Sith eyes and soft goods hood that can be adjusted up or down.
-Darth Sidious
-IG-100 Magna Guard

I was thinking lately that I plan on doing less figures (how many tatooine lukes do I need anyway?) and more high end stuff like gentle giant and code 3. - The Darth Maul Statue should be ready by February. They've posted some great pictures on the website!
- The Luke on Tauntaun Statue should also be ready by February. More great pictures on the website as well. The details are amazing!
- Lando as Skiff Guard Bust is another February release! Some good pictures on the website as well.
- The Clone Wars Barriss and Luminara Maquette will be a run of 3000.
- Series 4 of Bust-Ups of "Revenge of the Sith" theme will me ready come October this year.

*Just a reminder, the Sandtrooper Squad leader (orange pad) and Sandtrooper Sergent (white pad) should be ready this next month. For those who have their collection displayed, get ready to reset!

Well I don't really know. He's kind of a "love to hate him" type of character. He was annoying in TPM, but for some reason I think GG would make a pretty sweet rendition of him.

That and that fact that I don't own any other Jar Jar items (no figures, nuthin!), makes me think that I would probably get him if they made one. Same goes with TPM Anakin. He annoyed me in TPM, but I would probably get a bust if they made one. He is little Vader after all! :crazed:

Jay, what kind of TPM Ani would you want most ? :)

There could be a regular Slave Ani, a Podracer Helmet Ani, or my first choice, a Padawan Ani.

But I don't think they would make a Padawan version, they'd go with one of the other two, I think. I wouldn't mind if they made him, though. :)

Hellboy
