You may have to get it appraised to get it covered under your renter's insurance. I wanted to do it once but didn't get much info on it. They may also have different brackets of insuring (i.e. $5,000-$10,000 etc.)

I had my insurance agent come over and loook over my collection. I just have it covered under my renters insurance. My agent told me I didn't require a "rider" on my policy, but my collection was much smaller at the time. (pre 1997)

AS someone who sold insurance and looked into it for myself, basically you will need a price guide. The only thing is condition, without it being AFA or whatever, it goes by eye. I am sure an average collection will be btween 5 and 10 grand. Even though you do not own a home, you can get its own policy. Try STate Farm or ALlstate, they do the most business in those fields.
