What do you think is the best video game ever? It does not have to be a Star Wars game, it can be any game from the Atari up.I think the best game is Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Nintendo. I loved playing that game. My cousin and I used to play for hours. That game rocks!!!

After just buying A PS2 and being a bit of a sports buff the Madden 2002 game is pretty sweet!

Hard to quantify the "best" video game of all time since all of the different genres and progresses in technology. I would say Super Mario 3 is up there along with Street Fighter II, which defined a whole new age in gaming. My favourite though has to be TIE Fighter. It was a engrossing saga with some memorable moments including the TIE Defender and Missile Boat. Now if they would only come out with an AT-AT simulator.

Oh yeah.....C&C: Red Alert 2 rocks, too............

for my old TI/99-4A - Parsec
for PC - Episode 1 Racer - a game that I can actually do well at!
for PS/2 - Grand Tourismo 3 (I can't believe the graphics)

But then, I don't play games all that often. I tend to buy them, play them once, and then never play them again, until I uninstall them a year or so later to free up room on the HDD :)

FF6, Legend of Zelda (original), Metal Gear Solid, Ocarina of Time

Best video game ever?

My vote goes straight to The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I love this game more than any other, I attribute great memories to it. The music is astoundingly beautiful for a game. This game combines all of that into a long, but far from tedious, journey.

It may not be perfect in every respect of a game, but it is a special game in my mind and heart.

In no particular order:
Spy Hunter (arcade)
Goldeneye (N64)
Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)
Super Mario World (SNES)
Defender (arcade)
Monopoly (NES)
Dark Forces (PC)
Jedi Knight:DF2 (PC)

My favorite game of all time is Asteroids for the Atari 2600. My top three favorites for Playstation are Foresaken, Bushido Blade, and Metal Gear Solid.

old: RipOff - sorta space invaders-ish video arcade game. I now have on an emulator on my PC!

new(er): X-Wing and X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter - yeeeeee-freakin'-haaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

Doom & Doom II - A-Maze-ing!

Quake & Quake2 - (+The Reckoning & Ground Zero)

new: Quake3 - It's Frag-o-licious! (please feel free to post referrals to any good Q3 or RA3 servers and passwords!)

Super Mario Brothers 3, the N64 Zelda Games, and Grand Theft Auto 3.

Metroid III.

Man I cannot freakin' WAIT until Metroid Prime comes out. I have faith that Nintendo is not going to let this franchise turn out to be lame.

While we are talking "best video games" I submit the "worst video game" to you.

Superman 64. I sold it for a buck about a day after I got it thats how terrible it was.

Gadzooks! The worst game is Forsaken 64.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages.

I've never played the two original NES Zelda games.

Other great games:
Harvest Moon (SNES)
Blast Corps (N64)
Pikmin (Gamecube)
Grim Fandango (PC)
Resident Evil: Director's Cut (PSX)
Riven (PC)
Pokemon (GameBoy)

NES Legend of Zelda is one of the most fun games I've ever played, it even has an alt-version of the entire game in case you get done with the first one. It's very rudamentary by today's standards, but is still a ton of fun to play and that music gets stuck in your brain.

I thought Zelda II was crappy by comparison, it was an entirely different concept, Zelda as a side-scroller totally failed IMO.

Luckily, SNES' Zelda 3: Link to the Past fixed all that by being a truly awesome game.

01-04-2002, 11:42 PM
A Link to the Past was my introduction to the Zelda series and I'll never forget that experience! In some ways I wish the N64 Zelda had kept the top-down view as the computing power needed to make a fully 3D world just takes memory away from the actual adventure and story.

However, OOT and MM were great on their own ways. Heck when a Playstation magazine states that they would be hard pressed to come up with a game as good as Zelda:OOT (even on the PS2) then that's saying something.

BTW, I just downloaded an NES emulator along with the original Zelda so I will be drowning in Zelda bliss soon enough.

Stay away from Zelda 2, it will cause head injuries.

I see a lot of people have listed their favorite games on next-gen consoles, with very few NES and 2600 games listed. Does that mean that the first system that many people here played/had was SNES/N64, or do they just not remember NES games?

Am I really that old? I remember every NES game I had (probably because I stll play them on a daily basis. I'm currently playing Battletoads right now:D )

Metroid prime is going to kick @$$! Nintendo has never let me down on their prime series'. And this is the first metroid game since SNES. Cel-da and Star Fox: DP look outstanding as well. It'd be nice to get a very large, and colorful Pokemon game for the cube that is in the style of the GB games (people, these games are really good.)

01-05-2002, 06:15 PM
The SNES was the first console system I ever owned, mainly because by the time it was released I was living on my own and had a job (the Army:stupid: ). My parents had enough trouble buying me $3 Star Wars figures as a kid, there is no way they were going to fork over $200 on a video game system. I knew friend who had the NES, Atari and Sega Master System; but never really sat down and played any games long enough to really get the feel of them.

01-05-2002, 06:47 PM
game hooked up to a 13" black & white TV. Damn, I still think that was a helluva fun game. Does anyone here remember Tandy's A-Mazing World of Malcolm Mortar or any other games for the old Tandy systems?

But the most fun I had in the "old days" on video games was a full-sized arcade video game my room mate had called "Rip-Off." It was similar to Asteroids - you had to link up to and drag away little fuel canisters from the center of the screen while blasting asteroids and enemy ships that came on-screen to blast you. It was pure vector-graphic bliss. A plain white outlined chevron for your ship and little dots for your laser blasts. We had a real Ricaro car seat bolted to a milk crate to sit in while playing and we got so good at the game that it would begin to run so fast it would either not be able to hit the "good guy" ship with the blasts from the enemy ships, or it would start to "cheat" by blowing you up when nothing touched you, and finally it would just lock up - usually with hideous electronic sounds.

I reeeeeeally think I have a soft spot for games, movies, that are collectively called "bad"

I actually kinda liked Zelda II. Obviously it's crap compared to the first, but it was still fun.

I'm just a kook though.

Soldier of Fortune is awesome, so is Red Faction. Counter Strike would be good if it worked.

01-06-2002, 01:32 PM
Electronic Gaming Monthly just put out their list of the 100 best video games of all time. Tetris was number 2 and Super Metroid was number 1! My favorite video game Super Mario Bros. 3 was at number 11 and my second favorite Metal Gear Solid was at 14.

yesterday's Futurama episode paid elaborate homage to golden-age coin-ops like asteroids, qbert, pacman, space invaders, berzerk and donkey kong :)

swaffy: you mean this (http://klov.com/R/Rip_Off.html)? it was desigined by the same guy who did Reactor :)

01-07-2002, 02:12 PM
...yessiree that's the one. I have it on MAME emulator on my PC, but to play well, you really have be aggressive on the keys, and I don't wanna be that harsh on my keyboard. I may get a "throw-away" keyboard just for use while playing, but that is not very high on my budget list at the moment.

This (http://www.bubblebox.com/play/action/1337.htm) is the greatest.

That one is pretty good, but the best has to be this one (http://games.adultswim.com/robot-unicorn-attack-twitchy-online-game.html).

Easy game play, gets progressively harder, and greatest video game soundtrack ever.
